Me too!! I don't know why but I've been inordinately hungry for days. Usually I have to force myself to eat..now I'm forcing myself to stop. Very disconcerting!!
I read on another forum this morning that someone went to a local hometown coffee place, ordered a coffee with SF syrup and sat down to drink it. The barista came over when she was done and asked how she liked it...then proceeded to tell her she had added half full sugar syrup because it made it better. When the keto-er told her how it will screw her up the barista didn't get it..saying but it makes it taste better!
People just don't get it sometimes...

Ohh Cat you would love it!! and the hunky waiters will dance for you..LOL!! we will go on your birthday, and they will sing to you, too!!

LOL ok..so heres how it went. went in..asked for peanuts instead of popcorn and that was fine..only now i know peanuts arent keto!! they are legumes...oh well. i only had a few anyhow.
i orderered as my sides the small house salad and the green beans, and the 8 oz ny strip. shoulda been under 10 carbs for the whole thing. everyone else ate rolls..we got 4 baskets of them..i really had a hard time with that but did it. I asked the waitress if they used the same recipes as the nutrition info online..ohh YES she says. so. my salad comes..just lettuce, cheese and tomatos..but it must have been 2 tomatoes. so i took most off and just ate a few. Oil and vinegar. then comes my steak and green beans. i looked at the steak..called the waitress back..umm..this doesnt look like a ny strip. she looks at my order..ohhh YES it sure is..its because you got the small one...
i said but..NY strips are long..and they have a hook at the end..well see? this one has a little hook..ok. so she comes back..i asked the chef he says its a ny strip. ok so i go to eat. one bite of the green beans..and i know they use the alternate recipe some have told me..with the sugar. so i pushed them away (shoulda had the mushrooms,,,,)
the steak was superb..i could have cut it with a spoon. i said i'm tellin ya..this is not a NY strip...
so the bill comes. and i'm charge for some denver or dallas cut something..$11 MORE than a NY strip. waitress comes...i said umm...remember that ny strip? why was i charged for this other one? she gives me this blank look..says uh oh...takes the bill. comes back says i'm sorry you were right. it wasnt a NY strip..our mistake you get the better steak for the $11 less. i was LIVID....i figured this was one of the ones with all the carbs..
so, i went online on my phone then and there..and no, i hadnt looked at this one because it was far out of my price range. it had zero carbs. so....i had the small salad and the small steak..and left hungry but in my ranges. so all was well....i did fine all weekend.
good thing i'm poor and can rarely eat out...its awful they add carbs to everything. beware if you go out..check things out ahead. i was shocked!!

Tracy maybe you could ask her where you are going? Call ahead..ask a few things (got this from the book Keto Clarity)
1. Do you use pure butter?
2. Do you use coating or flour on your meat
3. Do you put anything on your vegetables?
If the answers are yes on 2 and three tell them you have an allergy and need them to be sure to prepare yours without.
I own a bakery and am often asked to make gluten free, sugar free, and peanut free products. I fully understand and want to please my customers. When I was at Disney in may, the chefs came to the table at every meal and spoke with me (I am allergic to mayo) and it was lovely to talk to them. No decent restaurant will be offended at you making a request!

It's amazing where I am seeing carbs hidden in foods! I wish you luck on your dinner out.

Me and DH are going to visit family in The Dalles, OR and eating out. I have no idea what restaurants are down there, but I know daughter wants to take us out to celebrate father's day. I'm nervous about it too.

I think you are absolutely right, Jan!! When I took 3 days off at Christmas nothing tasted good to me..but everyone else said it was great. The more sugar and carbs you have the more you want--that's why they are so addictive, and restaurants of course comply!! Sad for those of us who found this healthy way of eating.

I think that un-keto folks are so loaded with the sugars and carbs unless it is added to their foods, it doesn't taste good to them. You are on the road so you can't take your own with you and that is sad.

have you looked at the nutrition info online from TRH??? there is NOTHING good on it..what you mention all has loads of carbs..EXCEPT the NY strip steak. Even the salads have tons but i'm going to ask for plain lettuce and cheese and oil and vinegar. Even their italian dressing is over 20 carbs for 2 tablespoons!!!
i think its a common mistake..my mother always gets the chicken ceasar salad from panera thinking its healthy..its over 1500 cals!!! Salads are NOT always healthy..
just hoping they will make me a plain one. i'm sure its the carrots, tomatos, onions, and croutons that make it so high....the mushrooms are 5 carbs per serving and zero fiber..(i do total carbs anyhow) and to me thats not worth it. Even the green beans arent great--6 carbs in a single serving. . i was shocked....
but glad i went and looked. it said the 8 oz NY strip had 1 gm carb..so they must put something on them as meat should be zero. the prime rib, which i thought would be my best option, was 7 carbs. I stay under 15, so none of those things fit in. and all my carbs come from veggies...
i just dont want to blow it when i'm doing so well. a half slab of ribs has 34 carbs...yeah..thats 2 + days of carbs for me...not happening..LOL!!! Just checked again..small house salad..undressed..NINE carbs. 9!!!! nope. like i said if they will let me have plain lettuce i'll get that...
i know 3 people who warned me they kicked themselves out of ketosis going there eating what they thought would be safe...but you have a salad at 9..with zero dressing for that, a plain steak with mushrooms and green beans and you are over keto limit of 20. not right but how it is.
Really glad i went to their website and looked. I literally go out to eat maybe 2-3 times a YEAR...so its a really special occasion. i really, really dont want to blow it...i've worked far too hard for that!

Holly just tell them you don't want the potato to leave it off the plate. The popcorn would have been hard for me but here in Texas we have peanuts on the table instead. Just remember before and if you have to take an old pic and put it on your phone and if you have to look at it, then do it.

Going to Texas Road House tomorrow night with my kid. Preplanned a steak and salad. Just need all positive thoughts that i can keep my mouth off the rolls and popcorn..i'm good with everything else. um..oh wait..and the potato..oh geez...help..
