I guess today I did have about 1/4 tsp of my son's ice cream. It was so disgustingly sweet. Ugh.

For the last year I've been eating less and less buns. So hamburgers on only half a bun, sausages and hot dogs mostly on no bun, or half a bun. Now eating keto and not eating buns at all, I have noticed that the meats (hamburger, etc) taste much better without the buns. Like the buns were masking the flavors of the foods. Buns are just a filler.

After 3 weeks of this WOE, my tastes are already changing. For the good. I can now eat berries w/o sugar on them. Used to I could only eat them if they were tossed in sugar. But I find that I do love them fresh w/o sugar. Downside, is that I can't eat as many as I would like..lol Usually only have 3 strawberries + 4 raspberries or blueberries.

I haven't tried anything yet that I used to eat...like potatoes, popcorn, noodles, etc. I do miss my popcorn emoticon

I tried the cauliflower mash when I first started and I found it so-so. I think I was too used to the taste of mashed potatoes. I want to remake it now and see how it tastes.

pish sha Holly... Julekake is perfect in every way and is never hard...LOL. It's been so long since I've made it, it probably would turn out hard.

Has anyone else noticed that store bought bread smell horrid. It has a very strong chemical smell. My family rolls their eyes at me when I mention it. That's one of the reasons I always make bread for the family.

I miss mashed potatoes loaded with cream cheese, sour cream, and butter. I tried to make them using cauliflower but it just wasn't the same.

I'm finding I like more spice in my food since I've been eating this way. And I'm finding that I like more vegetables that I never really liked before.

I'm also liking my eggs cooked different ways. I used to eat scrambled only and now I'm enjoying them fried, over-easy, soft and hard boiled, and also sunny-side up served inside pepper rings :)

I don't miss bread at all, or hot dog/hamburger buns. I still miss everything bagels, though, so I might build a 1/4 bagel into my meal plan here and there.

I've been on and off keto, trying to get back on it. Someone mentioned processed food tasting more "chemically" and I have to agree. Plus, it seems like my body has a fit when I get off Keto - it's like my body is mad at me for getting some junk food. Yet, I'm still fairly stupid about caving in on the emotional level, to family's desire for junk food.

Mashed potatoes from a box? Of course that's gross. Mashed potatoes made from raw potatoes cooked at home and then with the appropriate "good fats" (like ghee or butter etc) plus Celtic sea salts etc - still good to me. But I rarely eat the potatoes because of all the anti-potato dogma in Ketolore . Oddly enough I seem to feel better when I have organic varietal sweet potatoes (like Garnet, Jewel, Purple, the varieties you don't see in standard grocery stores. I tend to find these in the local health food store or like Natural Grocers/Vitamin Cottage etc.). Don't know what that means, but one satisfies and doesn't seem to trip craving for sweets, and helps greatly in the fiber/fibre "regularity" department.

Will need to pay better attention as to any "off" tastes as I eat...

I'm not sure I've been eating keto long enough to tell a difference. However, the only non keto thing I've really had in the passed three weeks was mashed potatoes. When I make them, I taste about a 1/2 - 1 tsp of them to make sure I got the seasonings right. They still taste yummy to me.

LOL Cyn...i cant tell you how much fruitcake i make and sell...people who detest fruitcake like this..trick is i dont use citron, which is hard and bitter. i could live on it.
Julekage is good...if it doesnt turn into a brick..which it does a lot. my ex's aunties were from norway, and they made it every christmas and mailed it. some years it was edible..some years it was far from...lol!!

The biggest thing I've noticed is that processed foods taste very chemically, if that makes sense. I cook from scratch most everything but still get condiments like mayo, ranch dressing and what not.

I can't add my mashed potato/wall paste comment here. I still find it good.. very good in fact. Of course that could be because I grow Yukon Potatoes which is used in making it and my DS adds lots of butter and cream cheese to it. Never did like rum cake or fruitcake. Julekake is the only thing to be made with that sticky fruit stuff that is used to make fruitcake.

Potatoes are no good to me anymore either. Pasty. The real test will be if I get near some restaurant fries but I don't see it happening any time soon. They barely got an Applebees in this town a couple of years ago (don't remember).

Wheat flour based things taste slightly sweet but bland. I mentioned a while ago I tried a corner of a pound cake and it was underwhelming. I never liked bagged white bread that much but I dislike it even more now.

Fruits taste sweeter but I can't indulge that sensation too much.

I have to agree. I planned a week off at Christmas. It ended up being 3 days. Lasagna didn't taste good. Or cookies. Or potatos. The only 2 things that did were rum cake and fruitcake. Odd

A few extraordinary things happened regarding food preferences when I started eating low carb.

Some foods that were OK before started tasting great.

Some things I disliked were now OK.

It went against my long held beliefs that I didn't like something. Oh yes, and there were things I used to eat that now tasted dead. Like mashed potatoes. It's like starchy wallpaper paste. Not a chance. Do I miss mashed potatoes? I guess so, but I can't stand them anymore.
