Insulin is of course a natural part of digestion. But I think of it more as a rescue mechanism, to rescue you from high blood sugar. Its second purpose is to help store that high blood sugar way into body fat, so that you have reserves to survive the winter.

Well it used to be like that. Now to survive the winter you just need to go to the grocery store.

It you are a type-2 diabetic, like I am, then adding extra insulin, or taking drugs to make existing insulin more effective does lower blood sugar, and high blood sugar is bad. But it does so at a price, and that price is often to add to body fat.

Being overweight also has its implications on blood sugar. The more body fat you have, the more resistance there is to store yet more body fat, and that resistance shows up as higher blood sugar.

Alternately, by eating low carb, or even lower eating Keto, you need less insulin to handle the blood sugar. Less insulin means you are not in so much of a fat storing mode,
