Jules, I understand your concerns, and applaud your bravery for posting a picture. I don't know what you do for exercise, and strengthening your core might be key. That and your posture. Proper posture includes engaging your abs and it looks like you might be slouching a bit.

The other thing to try is belly dancing, as a way to strengthen and consciously control your muscles. (And have a lot of fun.)

Also, if you've been diabetic, your belly may be the last place some of that fat comes off.

By the way, yes you look fabulous, and you just have a little further to go on your journey.

Thank you so much everyone for your words of support and encouragement!

Hanging out with my pops did me a world of good. . .except that my eating went a little bit off track. I logged all my food but I didn't hit my macros and I went way over my calories. I didn't cheat by eating any forbidden foods, I just ate too much in general.

I feel better for now. I still think I need to work on my body. I feel like maybe I just need to turn up the intensity of my weight training and cardio. I'll try that for a few months before I start contemplating more drastic measures like going under the knife.

Tomorrow is the start of a new week and I promise myself that I'm going to hit it hard and try my best to stay positive! And when I start feeling down, I'll take my pup (he's not really a pup any more but he waill ALWAYS be my lil pup) for a walk or sip on some hot relaxing green tea or something. Or meditate. I started doing that (guided meditation) and I kinda like it!

Just for full disclosure, I just got out of an 11 year relationship at the end of last year and I'm just not taking it very well. Some days, I'm just a total mess but I try to be consistent with my eating and working out. I feel like my life is out of control and at least I have control over what I do and put into my body. (I hope!)

Let's have an AWESOME week everyone!

Jules,
I was away from my computer for a couple of days so I am just seeing your post. You absolutely look great. I think you had multiple goals for keto and you are focusing too hard on the belly fat one. I too have belly issues. Back when I was a size 0 I thought my tummy was big. Now that I am a 10-12, I call my belly my 5 month pregnancy. So if we are grading belly size, I would honestly call yours a 2 month pregnancy. Definitely not a 7 month. what you have is normal for women's health. so body fat is required and yours is concentrated in one place. I doubt you will ever get it all off but if you can't accept your current beautiful body, here are my suggestions.
1. check with your Ob/Gyn for any ovarian, uterine issues that might be causing swelling.
2. do start resistance training, muscle building so your body needs more calories and steals them from your belly. This will also keep your blood sugars down.
3. try to emphasize the great result you have gotten by getting off your insulin. The more you focus on the positive result with one of your goals, the less you will worry about the goal that may have been unattainable anyway. (again bc some body fat is needed and your body wants it there.)
4. Spanx. seriously. if that is your only body issue, bind it up and forget about it.
I hope this helps. I'm not trying to minimize your feelings but the honest vote from your team members is that your belly is not as big as you think it is.

I sympathize with you about people just brushing off your concerns about your own body image. We all have ideals on how we feel our body should look and if you've been slim all your life, anything other than that is outside of your norm. I've always been the tiny one growing up, when I was a 12 my dr wanted me to start supplementing with ensure because he was worried I wasn't growing enough. At 14 my school counselor called me into the office to make sure my parents weren't neglecting me and I was getting fed enough at home, that was pretty mortifying. But I was always a healthy, active kid with a high metabolism, ate a ton and didn't gain weight. I was used to being the small one.
Fast forward 10 or so years when I move overseas, hit my mid 20's, my metabolism slows down, working too much, working out too little and I gained about 25lbs. Doesn't sound like a ton but when you're 5'2", it's more than enough to make me feel uncomfortable with my body.
I think you look great and your numbers are way better than mine. I did a DEXA body composition analysis the other day which says I'm 33% body fat and about 145lbs. I really hope you get the results you're looking for but just remember, we are our own worst critics and on the outside, people rarely see the things we beat ourselves up over.

Keto WOE since February 1 2017.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

I'm taking a "mental health" break and staying with my dad for a few days. There is so much I am sad about and my dad doesn't want me to be alone. I think maybe it's just what I need? Hanging out with my pops and doing dad/daughter stuff like. . . .FISHING! UGH!

I hope I come back feeling better in general. I really don't like feeling so down and negative like this.

Oh Jules -
you are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

and 4th Trimester of gestation!! I laughed so hard!! Not hardly! I still look like I'm pregnant, only my infant is now in college!! It never came off.

But I totally get that feeling as I was always "bloaty" in the middle even when I lost 30 pounds as a teenager (and had flabby arms and legs because I never exercised other than walking.).

I really don't know what to advise you to do, except talk to others who have been successful getting that last blob of fat off the bellies. That wouldn't be me!! I don't know but what yoga or pilates might help pull in the muscles in your core tighter and help eliminate bloat (I know yoga is supposed to be good for some of the digestive and bloat reducing processes (all those twisting poses!!)...

Hugs!! Be good to yourself and talk nicely to yourself!! You are still made in the image of our Spiritual Creator!!

And strengthens her arms.

I think you may have a somewhat distorted image of what your body looks like.
Possibly also about the amount of fat you may be carrying.
A "normal" women used to be defined as carrying 30% body fat.
Women carrying this fat percentage have few health problems.
Components of which give shape to hips, breasts and belly.

Distorted images of female body-builders are a different kettle of fish.
In these situations, there is very little body fat and extreme muscle definition.

The regime of diet and exercise for a body-builder is different to the Keto diet(as fat intake can be negligible)

Body building women quite often have hormonal and fertility issues, as much, as the other extreme of obese women.

There would be many women that would like to have your build and it is by no means unattractive.

I think you may be being a bit hard upon yourself

Cheers Richard

Jules,
I have never posted a body pic anywhere, but here it is:

Still fat in the upper body to come off. A clear bump in my navel area. Are those lean chicken legs, or are they the right size and the upper body is too big? I think the latter.

I do have a variety of cartoon underwear. It's my personal, and private rebellion.

The point of my post Jules is that virtually everyone has body issues, myself included.

i agree with James.
Let me say that I, personally, dont see anything in those pictures to be embarassed about, but, as i said before, we all have our very own, personal, feeings of how we want our bodies to look.
I've had 3 kids. every one of them over 9 pounds. i have stretch marks, and i mentioned to James this morning that i wondered what i'm going to do about the newly evacuated belly skin...because its saggy. and it will be even saggier when i lose the last of this weight i need to.
I'm wondering, for you...and please..i'm not suggesting this, just an observation. I saw an ad on tv last week...and they spoke of just this. They said people lose weight but sometimes where they want to lose most doesnt happen, and they can help with that. i think it was called sono bello? at least you can see that others have the same concerns.
that said...can you find a place that does water displacement? that would tell you what your body fat TRULY is, which brings me to this. I have NO clue how these scales you can buy work. or their accuracy. and you may want to do some research on that, too...because you may be concerned about something that isnt even correct!!
Thank you for your kind words. I was a nurse for a time, and i was a teacher...and dealt with a lot of women of all ages. its just as devastating to feel uncomfortable at your weight as it is at mine. I've been fat my whole life. I dont look like i weigh what i do, so i seldom share it..and when i go in to the doc and they set the scale at 150 and i look at them and say REALLY??? that doesnt help ONE BIT..and they slide the weight up, and up, and up..the whole time saying no, it cant be...and it doesnt make me feel one bit better. so i truly do understand. You need to love your own body...and it doesnt matter how many people tell you otherwise.
I'm just really pleased for you on your being off insulin!!!! I'm here if you need to talk, or vent, or whatever. I truly do understand!!!

Jules,
being off of insulin due to eating Keto is a huge achievement in better health.

As for body fat. I have about 15 pounds that is just sort of stuck there. You are inspiring me to snap a similar side photo of my midsection, and I promise I will in the next day or so. I'm no Tarzan.

It doesn't look to me like you have so much fat that it is unhealthy. Certainly one's impression is that your visceral fat, the fat between your organs, where it is truly dangerous, is low. In fact it looks like you have very little body fat. Yes, maybe one wants a slightly different body, but eating non-Keto probably won't help. I can't see why it would.

By the way, I'm sure plenty of women would trade bodies with you in a heartbeat. You look great to me.

Holly,

I first of all want to thank you SO SO much for being sensitive to my body image issues. So many people just dismiss it right off hand and it makes me feel like doo doo. So thank you so much for your sensitivity. It means the world to me and the world would be such a better and more tender place with more people like you in it.

The heaviest I ever was was about 145lbs. I think I'm doing keto for different reasons than most people as I wanted to 1) Get off of insulin because I'm diabetic, which I accomplished 2) To get rid of body fat. Not necessarily "lose weight" but to get rid of body fat. I want to GAIN weight by adding lean muscle actually. and 3) To be and feel stronger.

But the discouraging part is coming from the fact that the numbers are telling me that I don't have much more fat to lose, yet there is so much on my midsection. This bothers me because the medical establishment agrees that midsection fat covering your organs (visceral fat) is DEFINITELY a killer. Everyone in my family that has died has died from heart issues like stroke or heart attack. This belly fat is not only killing me, it is destroying my self confidence. I don't need to look like a model. I just want to look "normal."

I'm so mortified of sharing these images of myself. I took them a few minutes ago. I just want people to actually see what I'm talking about.

ok first off...WOW....i dont think i will ever get anywhere NEAR those numbers...so bravo to you!!!
second. we all carry differently. I saw a picture this morning on my facebook keto sight. this woman had gorgeous slender legs and arms, and ALL her weight was in her belly butt and thighs. ALL of it.
i carry all over. i have huge legs.huge belly. huge arms. just the way my family is.
so..first off. have you talked to your doc about it? make sure you dont have a stomach problem...when i had reflux so bad my belly would balloon like noones business.
second. is it possible you are too thin? and what you are seeing is just your normal anatomy, accentuated due to your low weight (going by your comment about elite athletes)
and third...it may just be you. how you are. I have big boobs. i've had them since i was 10. like..as in..people actually pay to get my boob size...and i still cant figure out why anyone would want the backaches, headaches, no clothes fit right etc..but they are what they are so i just grin and bear it,
Please know..i am not trying to downplay this at all..i know body image is a big deal...but i see your picture and you are, truly, beautiful....

Okay, I think this will be my one negative post for the day. I'm going to try and be positive after this but this is bothering me so much that I think this is going to be my new obsessive thought.

So, I bought a scale that measures body fat, BMI, bone density, hydration and all that. I bought it for myself as a "reward" for sticking to my new way of eating and exercising to help me with my goals. I've been doing this since December and I have never cheated. I felt I was doing good.

So this scale that was supposed to help me actually left me defeated. I weight 122 today, with a body fat percentage of 21% and a BMI of 19. I honestly look 7 months pregnant.
So these numbers tell me that I really don't have much fat to lose. You can see the bones in my hands, my hip bone is protruding and yet. . .none of the fat is coming off my stomach. It seems the more I lose, the more prominent my stomach looks like it is protruding.
I do a lot of ab exercises so if I "flex" my abs, you can kind of see definition. . .but it still sticks out a LOT.

I don't know what I can do at this point and I feel like I should just go back to shooting up insulin and eating cake. I just feel so defeated like I was working hard for nothing.
The numbers are actually really discouraging because I don't have anywhere left to go. I can try harder and become underweight? My body fat is already close to what is considered an "elite athlete" for females . . .am I supposed to try and lose more body fat?

Seriously, where do I go from here while I still look like I'm in my 4th trimester of gestation?
