The places to get psyllium husks are the ones that Richard mentioned.

Psyllium husks are just the husks (outer shell) of the seed from the Plantago plant. You can grind them fine, mix them with water and drink, or you can just mix them into other things things and eat. Whatever works for you.

supermarkets, healthfood stores, ebay are all sources where you can buy psyllium husk.

on a keto diet you generally dont eat cereals which would otherwise be able to be topped up with psyllium, so taking psyllium with water is your best shot. it has no flavour.

probiotics are useful for bowel problems

the fermented milk products such as plain yogurt or kefir have negligible residual lactose and have beneficial micro-organisms.

cheers richard

Awesome! Thanks for the suggestions and the information on Metamucil, I will avoid that one. I do like chia seeds.

For the psyllium husks, most of them say to mix with water, does it matter whether you do that or can you just add it to your regular meal?

Oddly enough, a couple of weeks into the Keto diet I developed a colon infection, that discomfort was what got me looking at my fiber. It seems to have just been a weird coincidence though as I'd not had any problems before, all my tests look normal and the doctors all said it was not likely to be related to the diet.

I am strong and I can climb mountains!

I have 1 tablespoon of unprocessed psyllium husk every morning.
It keeps me as regular as clockwork.

Plus taking psyllium husk at the same time as beverages or goods makes the nutrients slow-release from the gel that forms.
This helps ensure you feel satisfied for longer.

Cheers

James...my brother-in-law, a true southern boy about 65 years old, has been truly suffering with IBS or ulcerative colitis or some such for the last 2-3 years. My sister and he went on a low carb diet and they both lost weight and he felt SO much better!
They fell off it last summer on a vacation and now he is suffering again.
She cannot get him back on low-carb and is at her wits end!
This benefit should be more widely known!
Thank you for being such a great help!

I've had ulcerative colitis since I was 27, so about 30 years.

I'm convinced that this was irritated by wheat, or something high carb. I do know that for the last 6 years when eating Keto that this has no longer been a problem for me. So I'm happy not to have regular bowel movements. Once every two or three days is a blessed relief, and I don't feel uncomfortable either.

But if you want extra fibre, how about psyllium husks added to things. Psyllium husks are inert and have no calories, they are just indigestible roughage. But don't get Metamucil which has psyllium husks in powder form, it also has loads of sugar added to it. Go to a health food store or bulk section of a grocery store.

If need be you can grind the husks yourself into a finer powder with an electric spice grinder.

Flax seeds are also high in fibre, as are chia seeds.

After tracking my diet for a month or so, I've noticed that I'm consistently low on Fiber. What have you found to be the best Keto friendly source of fiber?
