OH I hadn't thought about having the salts in a tube. I guess I figured I'd go buy me a salt lick from the ranch/farm supply store (like Atwoods or Tractor Supply etc) and chip off a little bit to carry with me on a race??

On my long runs I use base salts. You lick your thumb, place it over the top of the tube, tip the tube over one time and lick the salt off your thumb. Gets the electrolytes into your system faster (tastes awful though). I get headaches when my electrolyte balance is off, I've used it a couple of times for that too.

Fat? Oh, yeah! Bulletproof coffee. Bacon, pork rinds, cheese. I have my macros down, now experimenting with total caloric content. That and I'm a couch potato. Getting a free gym membership on the new year! I got some Italian sea salt and will see if that helps. You're the man, James! 💖

I find that the ConcenTrace or similar product works well because it has the full range of some 70-80+ mineral salts together but not so much of the sodium chloride specifically.

Celtic Salt, Himalayan salts all have a similar panel of mineral salts (the sodium chloride as well as magnesium salts, potassium, calcium, all of that - many more beyond), and so get what your budge can afford. There's another brand of salts supposedly from the Dead Sea in Utah, and I didn't like it as much. It seems to have a lot of red dirt in it that just never dissolves and is always remaining at the bottom of my cup no matter how well stirred it is etc.

Random articles, but there are gobs and gobs more...

welll.. I started this several hours ago. Got lost in various wormholes in cyberspace as a result of some of the comments in the last link. Sooo skip the comments, read what she suggests about combining salt and water as a way to deal with some of the same health issues that result in KETO "flu" and electrolyte balances etc.

MSTRUCKNGIRL,

besides any extra salt, are you eating fatty things? You need fuel or you'll feel lethargic. I eat cheese pretty often. Maybe some shredded cheese in my morning omelette, maybe just as a snack.

I also put shredded cheese on my crunchy bacon rinds, zap it in the microwave, and it replaces my old potato chip sort of thing.

Thanks, brother! I was wondering, because even after some weeks keto I still have a farely low energy level. I will try with a small ammt (1/8 t) and see if that helps.

NIGHTSKYSTAR,
here is a mish-mash of thoughts ...

When I started low carb I felt unwell, weak, dizzy, headaches. I took some extra salt and felt better in about 15 minutes, really as fast as any painkiller (aspirin, tylenol...) would have handled the headache. It is all about an electrolyte imbalance.

I only took extra salt when I had a headache. About 10 days into it I wasn't having headaches, and stopped taking any extra salt.

Of course if one wants to add salt to food for taste, that works too.

MSTRUCKNGIRL,
When I first started eating low carb, over 5 years ago part of the diet was to have extra salt.

The reason is that when going from the standard American diet, which has about 300 grams of carbs a day, to low carb, or yet lower, to Keto, which has about 30 to 40 grams a day is a big shock. Electrolytes get imbalanced, you can feel unwell, dizzy, get headaches.

In the transition phase of about the first 2 weeks, some extra salt really smooths it out. After 2 weeks the body has adjusted and you don't need extra salt. What I did was have a glass of warm water each day, dissolve about a tablespoon or two of salt in it, and drink quickly.
