I am a new member and I love to paint furniture. I have recently recovered from some recurring UTI infections that threw me off course for several months. I am now back and trying to get my head straight and restore my health and stamina for exercise and lose the weight I gained during the various bouts with antibiotics. My passion is restoring furniture and being a bit creative with that.

Have a great day tomorrow!

All good ideas! Either people are disabled in our Church or not interested! We are good to get bake sales going every other year during holidays and summer. Believe me, I know! I am in charge of such. It's sad to say; but, most want such things done; but, not by them! After so long a time everyone gets 'burndt out'!

Thanks for the ideas, tho.. Maybe some day!

My husband and I have been working on an inground/above ground pool design. We are doing all the work ourselves so it is really a great workout. You can see some pictures and daily blogs on the filter stream (on the right side of screen). I am naming it: Operation build a pool!

SMIDGON -That`s good news!

How about an older manual model of a food scale? I have an older one which works fine. I would donate it if I could and buy myself a new digital food scale.

If there are artistic people in your church, how about asking them to add a framed or not painting or home crafted ceramic pieces, for the auction? This way they get a percentage of the profit from the auction and the winner with the highest bid would help the whole fund raiser. The church I belong to have various Christian band groups, that donate cd's to our fund raisers. Hand made items carvings, sewn articles and hand crafted jewellery attract quite a few bids at our actions.

Thanks for the concern!
The EKG was normal. Am having a stress test Monday. Dr. doesn't think it's my heart. PTL!
His option at this time is Asthma. I have had stress-induced asthma.

Maybe getting some wt. off, and back on Fibro. meds, maybe I will feel more like making treasures.

At Church the W. of F. group may be having silent auctions as a fund raiser. Anyone have something unusual that might be doable for this project. Would appreciate any ideas!

emoticon SMIDGON ~ Hope you get some good results from the doc today!

Sewing has been a hobby of mine for the last 6 decades. When my husband died and I became a single parent, my job skills were obsolete, had no money to get re-educated. I decided to turn my hobby into a business. Did well at that for 3 decades. Now I am sewing for pleasure. Though my eye sight is starting to fail, find threading the machine needle a wee bit tricky! Bought myself a sewer's magnifying glass, that hangs around one's neck, very helpfull in deed!

The demand from my granddaughter now, is more Barbie furniture and Barbie clothes. Added a photo - made a sofa, two living room chairs out of mini orange boxes plus a coffee table for last Christmas. Since I switched from a laptop when my desktop computer died, a lot of my pictures never got transferred. Though the Barbie bed did and have included a photo of it in here in the photo section.

Even tho. my spoiled 'furry kid' has loads of bought clothes; I want to make her some! I have scads of doggie patterns! So, I need to get off my 'duff' and get on with it!

I use to do so much sewing; have a wonderful machine, and, there it sits. I have gotten so involved with other crafts and things! I guess you could say I have 'branched' out!

Hopefully, today after my Cardologist appt., I can begin to get some idea of what my physical problem is, besides Fibro., CFS etc. I had one dr. to tell me they may never be able to find out! That's comforting, isn't it?

Have a safe, terrific day...............

A few years ago I made a duvet cover, bed skirt and 4 matching pillow shams. I got tired of the print, the ensemble got stuck in the back of my linen closet. My daughter came over a few months ago, and raided my linen closet. Though she didn't want the ensemble I had made as she thought it was to feminine to share with her hubby. I in turn decided to cover my computer swivel chair and my smaller swivel sewing chair with the pillow shams. Hmmm, maybe the rest should be picked apart and saved for some kind of Halloween costume???

I will take some pictures and upload, my refurbished chairs.

As usual, I am working on scrapebook pages. Depending on what the pictures are about depends on how many pages I have to make. Usually it's just for the three kids and myself. Sometimes for some DGC.

Then, usually I have some jewelry pieces to finish. I like making vintage-style jewelry. I am your typical Grandma. An antique little girl!..........

I have been working on small projects these last few months.

1. My dinner table was looking really dull to me so I purchased a new black sheet set and used the top sheet as a table cloth and the two black pillow cases and two beige pillow cases purchased separately went right over the chairs for a quick makeover. What's neat about this is, they can be washed! I used some leftover floor tile and placed it on the table as a distraction from the sheet. It's a quick, cheap fix for any ugly table, that's for sure! (pictures posted on team photo section)

2. My garden is growing nicely. We added some chard, lettuce and more vegetables and have been busy outside cultivating the grounds for more fruits and veggies. We purchased trees that will give back and planted them in the yard; apple, peach, lemon, etc. (pictures posted on team photo section)

3. We have also been working on making the room doors. Since we built our own home, we didn't have doors to the rooms, and they were special sizes that I designed for the loft area. They came out very heavy but nice! We used wood and leftover oak fence. I like the rustic look! (Photos soon to come)

This weekend I am hoping to start some new projects but I am not sure what they will be yet. I will post when I come up with them.....things change in my mind all the time :)

This morning, the city crew is out at that abandoned house!
They are in the process of demolishing it. YaHoo! is all I can say.
One year a homeless person froze to death in the backyard. It was a very cold winter - 40 degrees through the night. When I awoke in the morning I looked over in the yard, someone was all huddled up in a sleeping bag. I got worried and called the RCMP they came and removed the frozen body.

You would think having a community garden, would bring more homeless people, looking for food. They only person, I have ever seen stealing food from the garden, was a well dressed lady. She drove up in a newer looking van, hopped out with a green garbage bag and was helping herself. As she was grabbing veggies, closer to the back of my building, I went out on my smaller deck and yelled down to her. Asking if she belonged to the community garden. Which I knew she did not . She did not respond. Then I went inside, for a few minutes. Came out and yelled down to her, You, best be movin' along! She yelled back at me saying "Mind your own business." Suit yourself, I phoned the cops, your stealing! I never did call the cops. With that announcement, she left.

Yes, this is so true, Jennifer!

Though when I bought my condo unit, the owner of the construction company that built this building, made a written contract with all new owners, We all signed the contract between him and the city parks department, That stated all first time owners of each unit had a $10,000.00 share in the stated land behind the condo was to be used as a benefit to the community.

It has taken 10 years, to see the results of that agreement with city hall parks department perhaps finally come to true. The parcel of land is too close to the road and too close to the condo building, to be developed into another condo. It probably is why the owner of the construction company bought th whole parcel of land. Using our funds, to secure a green space in the city.

I have shrunk too! Much to my surprise, none of the clothing I bought, last year fall fits. Except for some leggings. I bought a large size, I am short so now the leggings are 4 inches past my waist and the bottom of the leggings meet my toes. I just wear then tucked uner my heels in my running shoes. Bought two small size pairs of leggings recently and they fit.

Altogether I have lost 165 lbs. That is a total of three times, restarting, trying again again and again to finally reach goal weight but now I am 5 lbs under my goal weight. SHALL I DARE PUT A curse on my efforts and lower my goal wieght to 105 lbs? I dunno?

Ann, yes, I have been working hard to get to my goal size! I have about 20 more pounds to go. I cannot wait until I reach goal!

Wow, that is an ironic thing that happened to that land! I am amazed how bad can be turned into good, I mean, they could have condemned it and sold it but they used it to better the area. I think that was a great idea!

Hi Jennifer!

WoW! Jennifer, looks like you have been shrinking!

I have been an avid gardener since the middle 1960's. Recently their was a sting operation to an old rented house, on one of the last corner corner lots that is adjacent to the community garden. You would not believe the bags of stuff that came out the house. There were ten undercover cops, busting doors down, then days of a noisy restoration company, bagging all the stuff. 1/4 acre full of green garbage bags. It probably was mold from the inside of the house. Caused by a grow operation. No one even lived their but I guess someone, rented it for the purpose of a grow op.

On the opposite side on a corner lot is another old house, presently it is rented to the Local library, where people drop off books that need mending.

The good news to all this will come this spring. The grow op house is being demolished, the city is putting in a seniors park with benches ect. Also the library house, will be demolished and a small tots play ground will be built there, this spring. So this is just super for all the condos around here, where young couples with babies have sprung up. A park is what is really needed. At present the community garden takes up four lots and the other two lots well, it will be very nice to seen the change!

Thanks Ann!

We continue our gardening into March and I just planted some herbs. I cannot wait to get use from them. This will be my first year ever planting anything, so I am really hoping that I can keep maintenance on all of my new projects.

I tried to give my teens a specific job but they are teens so...lol...well, I get less than I ask for when it comes to them helping!

I hope everyone has a fantastic March! I hope to start some new projects in a few weeks and will post some pictures when they come alive :)

Happy gardening Jennifer!
Gardening season doesn't start till around the middle of April, where I live. Unless you plant veggies, that enjoy a cooler temperature like green peas.

I put the bug into the city parks department that a Community Volunteer Garden would be a wonderful use of the empty weed infested land behind my condo. I rallied all in my building, who wanted a Community Volunteer Garden and who would rent a space there.

I had 15 people eager, to pester the city parks board. We did weekly complaint calls to the city parks department. It took 3 years for the city to get the message. That was 13 years ago and the Community Volunteer Garden has expanded since the original beginnings. In fact there are about 15 new community gardens around the city now.

We have peach, apricot, pear, plum, apple and grapes vines planted in the community garden. The grape vines were original. The apricot, peach. pear, plum and apple are now producing fruit. If you have a rented plot in the community garden you can to take some of the fruit, with consideration to leave enough for all the gardeners to enjoy. Some people are less considerate just plain greedy.

There is two dedicated plots that we grow root vegetables for the local food bank. Mainly because they hold up and last longer that fresh greens. I can't work a garden plot any more but I still contribute time to the garden, for people that go on vacation, they post the dates they will be away, myself and other gardeners, water there vegetable and flower plots.

Hi everyone! Hope everyone's having a great start to this new month! I have been sick with allergies this last week, oh, I am sneezing a thousand times a day it seems like!

My husband and I have been working on the yard, planting new green plants and fruit trees. I wanted trees and plants that can give my family healthy food, so we chose lemons, apple, banana, and peach trees. It will take a while to grow but I have lived here all of my life, so I can wait :)

Be sure and check out the new challenge for February if you need some accountability this month! Have a great day!

Just popping in to say emoticon Babysat my granddaughter since friday afternoon. She didn't want to go home this morning. By noon I said "Let's go to McDonalds for lunch", big grin on her face appears. Then she says "Lets go to the one at Wal-Mart store nana!"

On the way to Wal-Mart in the car her chatter was endless! Then she says "You know nana? " I really need a new pink skirt, and t-shirt ro match. We could get them at Wal-mart ." She is only 3 1/2 years old and smart as a whip! I replied "Yes, maybe if they have your size." The rest of the ride was silent. She did get a new skirt, top and a big heart shaped pillow for her bed.

My granddaughter started ice skating on trainer skates, last year, this year she has new skates (big kid's skates) as she calls them and can skate the whole outdoor city park rink on her own.

Hope everyone's having a fantastic weekend. This weekend we have decided to work on the yard. It's a mess! Our equipment broke down in the beginning of summer and we didn't have the money to replace it so we have dry grass up to our ears. It does seem easier to deal with when it's not as green though and thank goodness we don't have to fight the mosquitoes...lol!

Finally got my son healed from the flu so I am back on my projects! This weekend, hubby and I are making french doors for our theater room. A nice gentleman down the street was throwing out some cheap french doors....the ones filled with foam. I love these throw away doors because I can keep the double pain glass, wrap it with 2X4 or 2X6 and have a nice looking wooden door! That's the way I made the front door (see picture area). Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend and I am so glad the sunshine is coming back in Texas, because the cold was really getting me unmotivated!

Trying to keep it from spreading for sure.....have a great day!

Just checkin' in today. Been busy sewing repairs, of my granddaughter's play treasure chest of dress up clothes, she got for Christmas. Very poor seamstress work done on those fancy play things. She also got a life size princess doll. The doll is stripped nude and she is wearing the doll's clothes.

Just another little tool, Spark People have that many other diets sites do not have. Other diet sites, don't usually have an area, where people can create teams for team support or for people who want to chat about similar interests. Can't beat this site for freedom of expression and of course they do have the best and easiest to use daily food diary!

This past month, I have been working on getting my shower up and running. We have a bathtub but everyone is tired of bathing...lol. I love to bathe and soak but, gotta keep the family happy!

So, a week ago, we poured the shower base from concrete and designed our own special drain! It looks really nice. My shower is made up of glass and stained 2X4's because we had thick, tempered square pieces given to us by a man that ordered the wrong size for his project. I was hoping to have this project done soon but with all the Holidays, I got sidetracked with baking cookies and stuuufff...lol!

Today, I am sewing a shower curtain and adding wooden shelves to hold the shapoo, soap, etc. This should finish this project off until I come up with a free or cheap way to add a decorative bottom to the shower base. I was thinking tile but I'm not a huge fan of tile. Maybe river rocks! So much to think about...have a great day all!

PS my couches came out beautiful. I just need to order the body pillows off of ebay which are kind of pricey but I think the comfort will be worth it and the longevity!

The theater room seating has been keeping me busy this week....I haven't even had time to work out but I know I am burning calories with this project. I updated my picture blog post with what we have so far.

These were so easy to make and can be easily moved around like a sectional couch. Each "chair" takes 5 2X4's to build, which cost $12.00 plus screws. That's a deal! Instead of buying cushions, I am going to buy body pillows and sew material up on them to match the entertainment center. I will stain the wood after I finish building.

Just came back from Lowes. Husband and I decided to build our entertainment center into the wall because the ones at the stores are overpriced and don't use real wood. We will Sheetrock around the framing and paint real nice. Hopefully this will just be a one day project for us!

Enjoy the weekend all!

Hi Swan,
I'd love to see pictures of your staircase, sounds neat!
I've been way to busy working to do anything else this week, - I bring work home too.
Maybe next week I can start on stripping my rocker!

Today, I think I am going to do some work on the lawn for a few hours. I'm going to try and suck up all the sun I can get before this weekend before the daylight savings times hits.

I don't really like it getting dark sooner! It makes me tired!

Today, if I can pull myself away from the computer...I am going to finish putting the lower cabinet drawers and doors on. I have 17 total and I am just doing a couple at a time, in case I have to trim and chisel the wood.

Yesterday, I stained the entire second staircase. Took me all day long and I was covered in red mahogany stain...lol! It looks really nice and brings it all together!

Speaking of housework, it was cleaning 101 today at my house. My two teenagers have been getting way for a while with incomplete cleaning so I took the day to show them how to scrub....teenagers....sheesh...lol!

So, today, we ended up cleaning and moving the theater room around...oh, the dust bunnies almost attacked me!

I am still working on the outfits, I was a bit slack on Sunday (since I found out the customers were not coming until this coming Saturday), will be done before Sat. Meanwhile I have tons of other customers to work on. Daily deadlines! Anyway, I have much sewing to do this week, probably won't be doing any house work except bare maintenance until next week. Then I am going to begin working on stripping an old rocking chair - many layers of paint on it.

It's chilly here in Texas....mmmm...that made me hungry for chili...lol! Today, I will probably make chili and then work on an old rocking chair that needs its bottom rocker fixed. A friend was going to throw it away and called me first...she knows better not to throw things like that away. I want to bring it back to life and paint it a nice heaven blue....get it ready for when the sun comes back out and place it on my back porch!

DARLY55, I bet your outfit came out fantastic! I love to sew. I need to get me a new sewing machine. I can't sew clothes to well but curtains and things for furniture, I can do!

Today, I made some stair rails from crib sides. My sister-in-law didn't want her wooden crib so I took it off her hand and cut it down, making a very nice stair rail. I stained and varnished it and it's very sturdy!

There's a cold front blowing in today so I will be limited on my weekend projects. Today, I will work on adding cabinet doors to my lower kitchen cabinets. They are already stained and just need to be hung.
