The sound of the ice cream truck rolling through the neighborhood makes me smile. A homemade treat even better than what's sold from the ice cream truck makes me smile too. I was inspired by a Chef Meg recipe and I made a batch of banana fudgesicles. Simply combine a pack of no sugar/no fat chocolate pudding with 2 cups milk (follow the directions) and fold a thinly sliced banana into the pudding. Spoon into popsicle molds. Freeze.

Since I live in an apartment and we are moving this summer I'm not gardening. In the past I've grown tomatoes and basil in pots. My favorites in summer is watermelon and tomatoes.

I heard of cucumber water and thought to give it a try....loved it. The flavor is very subtle and the drink is very refreshing.

Recipe for the Cucumber water...I now have a pitcher in my fridge at all times. Love it!

Even if you don't add the mint and/or ginger, it is still very good.

This year I am growing tomatoes (My FAV summer food! Good by themselves or with just about anything!) also growing some lettuce, spinach, and zucchini (my other fav. summer food) I miss being on Long Island (NY)) and getting all the nice freshly grown corn... :(

Grilling... anything and everything. Grilling adds so much flavor without adding additional fat or calories.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fruit so I love the wide availability of fruit in the summer. I love all kinds of fruit. I love everything from watermelon to cantaloupe to blueberries to cherries to strawberries. I mourn the end of summer because I miss the fruit so much.

Summer foods - CHERRIES!

I've been craving them so much lately!

Also tomatoes fresh grown. I may break down and try growing them again. The Tuesday farmer market started last week so I may try this week (but it's right during heat of the day... argh!)

There's probably more but I'm falling asleep. Had a big day.

I'm definitely enjoying having my own yard and room to garden. The property came with a dozen pecan trees, big fig tree and a pomegranate bush. I've since added 2 apple and 2 peach trees; 6 blueberry bushes; 2 kiwi plants; and a bunch of raised beds for strawberries, lettuce, spinach, mustard greens, collards, cabbage, rutabagas, broccoli, japanese eggplant, 4 varieties of squash, several varieties of beans, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, cantaloup, watermelon, okra, onions, leeks, corn, soybeans, and different herbs. I'm very grateful I have room to expand!

Summer foods. I live in a massive agricultural center. And if not in the central valley, just a few short hours to the coast .......for.......corn on the cob, artichokes, watermelon, grapes, peaches, nectarines, asparagus, strawberries, cherries, etc. Favorite BBQ would have to be tri-tip, corn on the cob, grilled asparagus and french bread! Finish it off with vanilla ice cream in a waffle cone or warm peach cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream and I am one happy girl!

I don't grow anything, although every year my husband says that this is the year he'll do some gardening. (He never does)
I LOVE fresh veggies. Bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, bring it on. One of my favourite summery foods is a simple chickpea salad. Open up a can of chickpeas, rinse 'em off, just add vegetables. Yum yum yum!

I love summer fruit. We usually have a garden of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and this year after not growing for a few years potatoes. Grilling is a bit thing also. We have a new rotisserie and did a nice pork roast the other day.

Grilling--Beef, chicken, fish, vegetables, corn on the cob--even Pizza! I love grilling in summer (I live in Michigan so grilling is truly a 'summer' activity) mostly because it means cooking wonderful meals with virtually no cleanup!

The only thing I really grow is tomatoes. I can't wait to try to grow other things, though. We just have a wee little yard, so it may be a while before I start anything else.

In the summer, though, I look forward to eating lots of raw veggies without paying an arm and a leg for them. I usually eat them with dill dip, which I'll have to tinker with to make it healthy enough to be worth eating. I look forward to pineapples and grapes, and I try to use my oven as little as possible.

When I come across any recipes, I'll post them here!

-Jossie

What do you like? What have you made or what are you making? Are you a gardener? What fruits and veggies are you growing and preparing fresh? Do you fish? What is the catch of the day in your house? What else says "summer" food-wise to you? Stories and recipes please! emoticon
