Prayers for peace and comfort in the loss of your uncle.

Ponder the path of thy feet
And
Let all thy ways
Be established. Proverbs 4.26

As we approach the end to summer, my days get quite crazy. With school starting up and going back to work, my time has become very limited. Today as I was sitting at my desk, I received a dreaded phone call. My uncle had passed away unexpectedly. My daughter who is quite far from me was devastated. There is absolutely nothing more upsetting to me than not being able to spend time with my family when they need comforting. My immediate response to discomfort was a strong craving for chocolate, but after spending the summer immobile, I absolutely refused to give into my craving. I can't afford to gain any more weight. As I cycled through my rolodex of self-help cards in my brain, I came to a single thought that brought me back to a place of calm, "Keep calm, and carry on." Many people know this expression from the millions of posters circulated by British government in 1939 as they attempted to keep morale high just before the start of WWII. This expression has meant a lot to my family as we have faced a lot of adversity over the years. While sentiments to some people are just idle words, to me they are the mantra that changes how I think about troubling situations. Today, as I recalled that verse, I was also reminded that I have gone a great distance with trying to lose weight, and have always been sidetracked by work, unexpected events, and emotional high-jacking. Today, I decided no more; instead I am shifting my focus to sustaining my motivation and hope for success. I found an additional poster that accompanied the "Keep Calm" rhetoric from 1939 that says," Your courage, your cheerfulness, and your resolution will bring us victory (A.P. Waterfield)." For me the mantra from this poster puts "Keep Calm" in perspective. It says YOUR courage, YOUR cheerfulness, and YOUR resolution... yes this journey is up to me! I think I need a new door poster; I know I will be living this mantra for a while : )
