Great!! It's only day 3 for me BUT I'm exercising without feeling like I 'have to' and for me, that alone IS progress! Take care everyone and make your choices work for you. emoticon emoticon

In spite of having not lost any weight I have made some positive changes since joining SP in early February. I have about 3-4 weeks of exercising regularly and have continued to track my food, though not always on SparkPeople Nutrition Tracker, but mostly that way. I also have regularly reported my exercise on the Exercise Tracker.

When you consider in November I couldn't get up from sitting in a chair. Had to use a walker and cane regularly. I was unable to walk up the 12 stairs in our house from the main floor to the bedrooms on the second floor. I had CHF in mid-October last year. I was very sick, my heart couldn't filter the fluid from my lungs to my heart and out to my legs and feet.

You see, at this time I also had Pneumonia and my weight quickly rose to 316 pounds due to excess fluid held in my lower extremities. When I left the hospital 4 days later, I had lost 18 pounds but was still very weak and determined to lose at least 100 pounds, which was advised by the ER doctor.

I lost 102 pounds by mid-December and thought that the diet had ended and I could go back to eating my normal way and started gaining weight. I am currently hovering in the 230 range and had gotten down to 214. I know, in retrospect, that losing that much weight so rapidly was insane and very potentially damaging. It really backfired, but my Cardiologist was very pleased and called me "the incredible shrinking woman". Now I can't seem to lose any more weight, just up and down in the 230's. I really do think my body is confused and needs to take a break before continuing my weight loss. I am trying to be patient, but I want the scale to move in a downward direction.

A few weeks ago I had a Cardiogram and discovered that my veins and arteries to my heart are very clear. The less good news is that I have permanent heart damage on the left side of my heart. The heart is very slow on that side because something is wrong with the pumping mechanism. I now have about 30-35% heart function!, normal according to the Dr is 80-100%.

I have an appointment with an Electro Cardiologist in Seattle this Wednesday and we will discuss what is the next step to stopping further damage to my heart. My Cardiologist wants me to see this Dr. to discuss the possibility of having a Defribulator installed in my chest to help with the electrical function of my heart.

What's amazing, even to me is my level of recovery since joining and participating regularly in SparkPeople, especially with the Community. Tonight I went to the Y gym and started working out at 6:28 pm to 8:45 pm, I did strength training exercises, 6 for 3 sets of 15 reps. I also did 2 sets of 10 sit-ups holding a 12 pound fitball. Then I did 10 minutes rowing and then worked out on the stationary bike for 42 minutes. That is quite a workout even for an able-bodied person much less a woman with heart damage. I have plans to increase my exercise as the Dr allows it. I feel exhausted but so pleased with my accomplishments and being in the zone for that long a time. emoticon emoticon
emoticon emoticon
So with a long story short I have made excellent progress while in SP, and I plan to continue and discover and practice my new normal for the rest of my life and SP will be part of my plan and definitely part of my recovery. emoticon emoticon

Good night and take care and I will let you know how I am doing next Sunday. If you want to learn more about me and my thoughts and feelings, check out my SparkPage.

don't get discouraged! we often give into cravings due to our emotions, or maybe we're feeling hungry and forgot to pack a healthy snack. just recognize why you gave in and do better next time! :) this weekend I totally fell off the bandwagon but this week i'm committed to only eating the meals that I cook myself and snacks that I've brought from home.

My confidence does not lie in my outward appearance. It is in the strength I feel every day mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Today (Sunday) was my weigh-in day and it taught me 2 things: I lost about 3 pounds from last week (yay!) and I need a new scale! The one I have I bought on eBay because it was cute. It's a small, about 4x8 glass oval and your feet don't fit completely on it (by design). Since I've had it I've had to step on it at least 10 times in a row to confirm the reading, sometimes the first few readings are different (wayyy different) and then it will read the same a handful of times in a row and that is what I go with. Today thought it fluctuated more than usual so I really need to get a regular size scale.

Other than that though I'm happy with my progress. I'm down 38 pounds overall. I've never lost more than 8 pounds in my life so it's pretty crazy to me. a little over three pounds more and I'll be under 200 pounds for the first time in I-literally-don't-know-how-long (because I haven't been on a scale in years and years). I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and I hope she is as excited as I am!

With yesterday's weigh in I dipped into the 140s. The number on the scale seems unreal.

I am feeling very excited.

I am near my intermediate? goal of 144 lbs. Where I go from there, I am not sure. I have not been in the territory I am in now for probably 20 years. Didn't own a scale for decades. So, not really sure the last time I was in the 150s/140s. I do know that it has been 22+ years since I have seen the 130s.

Although I spent 20 years of my life in the 130s, I was much younger. At this stage of my life, I am not sure if the 130s is even realistic or, most importantly, healthy. So, although I am very excited, I am also nervous.

I don't really have a goal weight. Assuming I reach 144, do I set a goal below 144? If so, what? I know that the BMI tables list 132 - 136 as the low end of normal for a woman of my height. Know that I have a very small frame. I can easily take my thumb to my middle finger and see my thumb overlap my middle finger as I wrap them over my wrist.

What I do know is this...
- I feel better than I have in decades
- I feel stronger
- I have better balance
- I am experiencing far less stress and managing stressful situations with more grace
- My posture has improved
- My state of mind has improved
- My body fat percentage is moderately elevated. I would like to see a healthy body fat percentage.
- My body would benefit from continued strength training (I have lost muscle mass over the years and have a family history of osteoporosis)
- It is important for me to continue my fitness and nutrition tracking. I have learned so much from doing this and expect that these habits will be just as important for weight maintenance.

Thanks for "listening."

When I first started with sparks, I lost 25 lbs, and the only exercise I did was walk 4 miles a day. Then I broke a couple toes, and damaged the bone going up from my toes to the middle or top of foot. No exercise, and I gained all my weight back, plus I was off line for almost a year, I got back on in November of 2013. Well I have lost 20 of the lbs. and am sticking to program. I am determined. Without sparks, I wouldn't be as content with myself.

I am feeling good about my journey. My utmost goal is to eat healthier and exercise at least 5 days a week. I didn't really commit to my journey until April 1st and my doctor wants me to lose 30 pounds by October 3rd which I believe is doable.

My biggest challenge is cooking and eating unprocessed foods. Thus far I have exercising down and last night I made the choice to stop wasting my time if I am not going to eat where it is beneficial to my health and losing the pounds.

So today is day one and I plan to stay committed.

Finally feeling that I'm making progress. I've been losing and gaining the same 1.5 kg now for 4 months.. Lack of motivation and fear of true change, I guess. Now I broke out of that weight so I'm at my lowest weight now since I started over this winter. I just need to accept the change and not sabotage it.

This is still a very new thing for me (day 5) but I am feeling good!! I am not only down on the scale but I feel skinnier, (wierd - lol) and I have a lot I have more energy!!!

Today I am feeling proud of myself....it is going to be a day out of town with friends visiting museums and such - and while it will be a lot of walking (hello fitness tracker!!!) I would have little control over my food choices....so while everyone else is eating burgers and fries, I will be bringing along my own paper-bag lunch full of veggies and protein!!

I have 2 doctor appointments back to back. I weigh myself daily. By the time I drive to the doctor's office fasting...I have gained 5 pounds. emoticon

By the time I walk 2 flights of stairs to the next doctor's appointment, I have gained 5 pounds or lost 50 pounds (depending on who is weighing me). emoticon

I still feel good about my weight loss, even though it is slowly becoming less than when I first started eating healthy and exercising. I should probably bump up my exercise so I burn more calories.

So far so good! The only problem is my scale is different from my doctor's. Mine is digital and balanced. I check often to make sure. However, my MD's scale which is the typical stand on and bar measure, is always 5 pounds more. I think I will stick with mine because I don't weigh weekly. What do you think? emoticon

I feel good about it. I've hit a plateau but still under goal. Don't want it to get away from me however. I know I need to work harder to give myself a better cusion!

GREAT! So far! So good! I have been tracking calories like crazy and working out every day. Shorter today because of Easter. The weight is not going to just fall off of me, but it is going well. My husband bought a scale that measures to the ounce...I did not like it at first, but now I do! Every little ounce lost is so motivating for me!

These last couple of days I've been feeling good about my progress. I am getting back on track with my calorie limit. I exercise everyday. The SPAT is a big asset to helping me to stay motivated and excited about getting back on track to where I was in 2012. I know I can do it. I'm so blest on Spark People to have a Spark Angel giving me guidance.

Spark People Team Leader, GLITTERGIRL, from Team, "I Can't Do This On My Own", helped me reach my goal in 2012. I was able to maintain my weight for several months, but now I have to get serious again as much of my hard work I let go of, putting my focus on another issue. I will keep on, until I get back to my goal.

How am I feeling about my progress? Well, right now I'm frustrated. It seems that I'm doing the things I should but I'm not losing weight or inches. My clothes aren't fitting better. I'm exercising (not as much as I need to but more than I'm accustomed to) and using less insulin so those are good things. I just don't understand why I'm gaining weight. It isn't muscle - it's fat. I haven't given up, though, and I won't! I'll keep on and hope things improve. If they don't, I'll change something and keep doing that until it works. :)

I'm really pleased with SP & with myself. I have twelve (12) lbs. less pounds that my spine has to support - core muscles are getting stronger. Since I had back surgery in Nov. 2013 & until I went into Physcial Therapy & do my 60 min. "core exercises" every day, I didn't know what core muscles were.

Even though I've only had one official weigh-in with this team, and its only been seven pounds (which I have been fluctuating with since the beginning of the year), I'm feeling good about my progress. Not because I am seeing results yet, but because I've started to make conscious changes in my behavior that I know will benefit me in the long-run. Eventually, I'll have to modify those behaviors but I'm comfortable for now. We'll see where it gets me.
