Sue your posts are always so newsy. I love that you take the time to do them.

Yeah, my cleaning lady showed up today and I am very impressed with the job she did. She will be back on the 29th so that should give me time to be feeling a little better after my surgery
I know I won’t be great....

Hi all - Well the painting is totally finished now - much to my relief. Our SIL worked hard all day Saturday to finish up a wall in each of two bedrooms that needed a bit more patching, finish painting trim (covered up some of the natural wood but it looks more unified) and get the wainstcotting in the bathroom painted. Charlotte - I wanted the wainscotting painted a light tan with the walls the off white (bit of a peachy hue to it) that I have in the hallway and two of the bedrooms but SIL had used the colour I picked out for the wainscotting on the walls. He convinced me to paint the wainscotting the same white as the trim and boy is it bright in there now! I joked that I'd need sunglasses every time I go in there! Having the shower curtain up helps although it has a white background with the tan and some seafoam and green pattern. Rugs will be one of the greens from the shower curtain and I'll look for some towels in that tone too. Overall I'm pleased with the look - just have to get used to it - and the old floor sure looks out of place. Hubby and I discussed putting done the same tile that we used in the downstairs bathroom a couple of years ago when we did it so hopefully we'll get that done eventually. Need to look for blinds for the upstairs hallway windows and I'll add some kind of a valance over the blind in the bathroom.
Had quite the trek around town today in the snow - downtown to the audiologist down the street to stock up on coffee - stop at the doctor's office on the way home to make an appointment. I took the one that was available within the hour - also said they'd do my flu shot. Came home for a few minutes to drop off my coffee then back to the doctor's (It's only a couple of blocks). He had to dig out wax guards that had fallen off in my ears from my hearing aids. Mostly he had to flush them out since some were a bit deep and hard to nab - they are very tiny. He'd not dealt with anything like that before - but then he's a young doctor only been practicing a few years. I was supposed to have a hearing test but the audiologist said it couldn't be done until the wax guards were removed. They're gone now - certainly didn't bother me so we'll see if he re-schedules. It was my former audiologist (now ill and unable to work so sold the business) who wanted me to have the hearing test this fall rather than in the spring but he says they'll do it again int he spring anyway. The joys of going from a small privately owned business to a "chain"! At least the receptionist is still there.

Charlotte - i think you sent that snow our way - snowed lightly all day and I think it's even worse in the Golden Horseshoe. Not sure what tomorrow's forecast is but I got the boots and parka all warmed up today! We had a couple of overnight snows late last week but it was all gone. Nothing on the ground when I got up this morning but when I came up from my workout this morning it had started and continued most of the day.

Donna - Nice to get out with friends while you can and even pamper yourself a bit. Did you find another house cleaner?

Busy week - knitting tomorrow, two days of singing (with a bit of practice after at least one day) and of course all my running around today. My grandson's sweater still isn't finished so I'd better get at it - his birthday is in just over two weeks!

Good snowy morning everyone. Busy times here so Sparking is on the back burner, except for the food tracking. I'm supposed to be writing the minutes for the church's latest Board meeting, but got sidetracked by checking the email and so it goes. Also have to do a financial report for my women's choir for the executive meeting coming up on Sunday...almost like being back at work! Both of my choirs are in the Christmas mode, practicing for the concerts in early Dec - which really isn't that far away. emoticon Yipes!
Carol - sounds like you're well into the Christmas preparations with your cards and knitting. Icing your foot really helps that plantar business. Not quite as painful as a cortisone shot which I had a few years ago. It did the trick, but I just about hit the ceiling when that needle went in!
Speaking of needles, flu shot is on the agenda now that my cold is over with. Still a little snuffly, but that's probably due more to my dusty house and the cat.
Sue - I bet your house is looking really nice even though not quite finished. Shopping for new "decor items" is always the fun part. What's the colour scheme in your bathroom?
Donna - lunch with friends is always fun. What kind of walker did you get?
Anyone heard from Marty lately?
Gotta run. Duty calls. Have a great weekend!

Carol - I was going to McMaster when Jackson Square opened in 1972! I remember going there to shop. The area right on the corner of King and James is not called the City Centre and the rest of the mall has spread down the street almost to Bay as it connects with the Sheraton where we stay. The Sheraton is almost at the corner of King and Bay. Not as much there i i don't think as there was originally for shopping but there are other malls in the city. There seem to be more services in there and some municipal offices. However there's a Rexall pharmacy where I can go to get bottled water and it makes for some good indoor walking.
You do have some knitting to do for those size 12 feet! I'm sure your grandson will love the socks. Need to be getting more done on grandson's sweater but a couple of nights I've been too tired to knit. They're coming up for the weekend - should be leaving soon - so it will be on hold for a couple of days but I do need to get if finished - his birthday is the end of the month!
Had another cancellation this week for singing - nursing home up the street was quarantined because of an outbreak. Didn't mind having the extra day at home. had book club on Monday, knitting on Tuesday and went to the blood donor clinic to donate yesterday. Still need to get a flu shot but thought I'd wait until after the blood donation to do that.
Daughter and family are coming up so SIL can finish the painting. I'll be happy to have it finished and get everything back in order, Will need to look for some new blinds for the hallway (won't put up the others as they're grey - not a fan) get my new shower curtain up and find some new mats for the bathroom, among other things.

Take care everyone.

Sue, I haven’t been in Jackson Square in a very long time. We took our oldest grandson there to get a tux for our sons wedding in 1991. Our son lived in Hamilton at the time only a few blocks from Ivor Wynn.
They moved to Waterloo while their kids (25 & 27) were still in school. I enjoy having them live closer to us.

I haven’t been getting in too much exercise this week. Tuesday my foot started to really hurt and I have been diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis. I have been using a frozen water bottle 3-4 times a day to roll my foot on. It does seem to be helping. Sure feels good when it freezes.
This has given me some time to work on my cards. None printed yet but will keep at it.
Finished the heels & instep if 25 year old grandson’s Philadelphia Eagles socks. Now to finish the foot. He wears a size 12 shoe so there is still a lot of knitting.

Take care, Carol.

Hi All!

Donna - Hubby called Fitbit customer service but since the fitbit was registered to my email address that got hacked and which I had already dumped there was nothing they could do. they tried to give him ways to solve it but apparently it's a problem with the software that they don't seem willing to fix. Hubby has a Versa that he purchased the same time I got mine and he said today it was giving him incorrect readings for his heartbeat (HB of only 10 e.g.) So far the Garmin is fine - just figured out last night how to set it for exercise. Reading the manual really does help! emoticon Got this morning's workout recorded anyway.
The game was not the most enthralling and it was rather chilly but the important thing was that the Ticats beat the Argos, even though they played less than half their starters. Argos too were playing some backups but seemed to have more starters in their lineup. I was better prepared for the weather - hubby was sure I'd be too warm - but he was the one who was cold because he didn't wear some of the layers that he'd packed. He's always hot and didn't think he'd need them. Then he was complaining about being cold!
I had a really nice long visit with my cousin last Thursday. It's been YEARS since we just sat and chatted one-to-one! I'll look forward to getting together with her again when she's going through town. Her son has only been in his present home since June so she hasn't been there too often yet.
That's a real pain about the cleaning lady Donna - I think I'd be inclined to look for someone else unless she shows up soon with a reasonable explanation. You are going to need someone dependable.

Carol - Sounds like you're staying busy too! Even making your own Christmas cards. I know a few people who do that. I'm doing well to get ready-made cards addressed and in the mail with maybe a short note! Ravelry is indeed a great source for patterns, isn't it. Usually it's the first place I look. Got in some mall walking in Jackson Square which attaches to the Sheraton where we normally stay in Hamilton. Since I'm doing mom's Santa bag this year, I took the opportunity to look for a few things to put in it in a department store (Hart's) in the mall. Picked up a few little things in Scotland-England too while we were away for mom and our grandson.
Just back from book club - had to take snack but made muffins last week and tossed them in the freezer and got them out this morning to thaw. I also picked up a veggie tray on the way.
I had a busy week but it just got a bit lighter as I had a call a few moments ago that the nursing home up the street where we were to sing this week, has been in an outbreak and won't be open before the end of the week so no visit there on Wednesday. I woke up this morning feeling like I'm coming down with something - headache and stuffiness and took a Tylenol cold but that's all I can do. I have a blood donor appointment on Thursday but if this doesn't go away, I'll need to cancel. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. Should make it to knitting group anyway unless I feel really terrible. Hoping that's not the case.

Hope that your sniffles cleared up for you Charlotte. Better go and get an email out to my Drifters and call our pianist to let everyone know about the cancellation.

Take care!

Morning everyone good to see everyone is doing well. I can’t believe I have not been on here for awhile. Not sure what happens there.
Did you change your clocks last night?
Sue I am not sure if i told you that if you had called Fitbit customer service they would have sent you a new watch. I am now using a Versa and it is the best model I have had. Hopefully you will like your Garmin.
I have been trying to get a cleaning lady and thought all was good. She was suppose to come last Tuesday but contacted me that she was sick so rescheduled for yesterday. She did not show up and I never got s call. I am not a happy girl so I guess I am back at square one, I am not sure if I will hear from her today or not. If I don’t she is toast.
All,I seem to be doing is going to medical appointments for me in regards to my surgery. I am having a hard time walking now so had to finally break down and take a wheelchair cart at the grocery store. I need to go again today to Superstore so I will do the same thing.

Charlotte I sure hope your cold did not develop into anything more serious. We got our flu shots a week ago and had to go to a second pharmacy as the first one had run out. One of the girls at the pool told me the same thing happened to her.

Sue, enjoy your football game today with great weather. Not much fun sitting in the cold.

Charlotte it is wonderful you found a great coat and you could repair it and add to it for basically nothing.
You will be able to get back to tracking and lose your weight.
I hope your sniffing goes away real quick.
Sue you are keeping very busy and getting so much done.
Val I am loving your picture quotes.Thank you fro sharing.
Donna I also like Ravelry for patterns. Most times I just google what I want and somewhere I will find it.

We have had so much rain in the past few days but still had 43 kids for Halloween.
I bought a sweater pattern to make one for our Whippet Remy. He gets so cold on his walks and needs more than just his coat as it doesn't cover his belly.
Today I cleaned out some drawers and have a few more things to donate. Still a lot to do.
Yesterday I actually started my Christmas shopping and today updated our Christmas card address list. Hopefully I will get our cards made next week.

Take care, Carol

emoticon emoticon emoticon Happy Halloween to you too Charlotte!

We stopped doing Halloween because we had so few kids and since it's a been a cold wet day here and won't be much better tonight, I suspect that there won't be too many out and about in our neighbourhood. The bonus is not having left over candy to tempt - or so I thought until hubby came home from the grocery store this afternoon with chocolate cookies (from the store bakery) and two flavoured dark Lindt chocolate bars for me (M&Ms for him) emoticon

My cousin called yesterday and we got together late this morning for coffee and a VERY long chat since we usually only see each other at family reunions every two years. She was on her way to her son's to help them with Halloween. I finally had to get moving to run a couple of errands and get home with our vehicle so hubby could go out. One of those errands was picking up more brown sugar so I could make another batch of muffins to take to book club on Monday. They'll go in the freezer shortly. Unfortunately didn't get in a workout as I still had to eat after I got the muffins made.
Ordered a Garmin the other day to replace my 10 month old Fitbit that quit working entirely after not showing a screen display for the past two month. The Garmin arrived yesterday and I got it all set up. It's slimmer than the old Fitbit and seems to track more things.
Hubby and I are off tomorrow to Hamilton to attend the Ticats final game of the season. Hoping for drier weather by Saturday night as the rain seems to be in the forecast for the next few days. I can handle cool - my parka is always an option - but wet is not much fun!

emoticon Happy Hallowe'en everyone. Are you expecting any ghosts and goblins at your door today? I haven't bought any candy for years being too far out in the boonies to attract any visitors. The pickin's are easier in town it seems.

Snuffling around today with a head cold. emoticon Not too bad as I still can sing, but zero energy. I guess tomorrow's flu shot is postponed.

Charlotte - Love your idea of all going to help out Donna! Glad you're willing to do the cooking though! emoticon That was a GREAT deal on the coat. Amazing some of the things that we can find at thrift stores. I've found some good bargains at our Value Village here. One of the best is a Liz Claiborne sweater that I bought a couple of years ago and always gets compliments. I think I paid about 10 or 11 dollars for it. A warm winter coat for $20 is an even better bargain! I think you sent some of that nice fall weather our way - yesterday was beautiful. Today is supposed to be almost as nice - a bit warmer maybe but it's a bit cloudy so we'll see. I know there's rain on the way. - you can keep the snow!
I just used a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper to roast the Brussels sprouts but I like Donna's idea of adding dried cranberry and bacon. Mom didn't have either of those or even much in the way of other seasonings. One recipe I looked at (all from SP) suggested using Italian seasoning. emoticon for the laundry sink and fixed plumbing!

Donna - You can find free knitting patterns online from some yarn companies. You usually have to sign up but there's no charge for membership. The site I go to most often though is Ravelry which is a free knitting and crochet community. There are lots of patterns on there - some free some not but I can often find good patterns that are free. You can narrow your search results to find what you need. It is a good way to pass the time.

Carol - Hoping that our SIL and daughter are able to come this weekend to finish up the painting upstairs. I'd like to get my new shower curtain hung (not that we use that shower) and get things put back. At least the pile in the dining room has shrunk considerably.

Pretty quiet weekend here as our daughter and grandson didn't come to visit - she had a friend and her son coming to visit them on Saturday. Yesterday was a singing day followed by practice for next month using a program we haven't used for a few years so it was new for some. That was at least a two hour session. According to my fitbit I burned over 1200 calories from activity yesterday! No wonder my workout felt a bit hard this morning. That and not doing and ST last week I guess! Must have worn out my fitbit which has only been partially working because today it's recording absolutely nothing. At least I have my old HRM to fall back on.
One of my email accounts was hacked on the weekend - major headache trying to fix that and I finally resorted to deleting the account. Only problem is I've used it for signing up for a number of things. The one that I had to inform quickly was Canadian Blood Services as I have an appointment next week and they use email to to send me my questionnaire. I did have a nice chat with one of my cousins though and since she's coming through town in the next couple of days on her way to her son's just west of here, we're planning to get together for coffee. I usually only see her every two years at our family reunion so it will be nice to have time to catch up.
I'm off to knitting group this afternoon - need to decide what I'm taking with me - my sweater or my grandson's. I have to pick up the stitches for the sleeves and finish them. It's knit top down so I either have to use magic loop or double pointed needles.
Should get moving. Take care everyone!

Charlotte way to go on the new winter coat. Yes I am sure your Momma would be very proud.
I know those fall suppers can catch up with you. I know you can tackle those few pounds in the next little while. You have taken the first steps by acknowledging them and tracking.
I have stuff to take to the thrift store too but am waiting for my hubby to tackle his wardrobe. He has a hard time getting motivated.

Good snowy morning everyone. Our brief break from an early winter is over - dull and cold out there with a light skiff of snow. Thank goodness we got most of the yard cleanup done over the weekend while it was still warm. I could go out to "balmy" BC any time now! emoticon

Carol - Those things we have to do seem never-ending sometimes don't they? I'm sure you made some good progress with or without hubby.. My never-ending chore seems to be sorting through stuff and packing up donations for the Sally Ann thrift store. Several boxes and an old suitcase full are almost ready to deliver tomorrow on the way to choir practice. The trouble is I usually find some interesting treasures to bring home, so probably no farther ahead. My latest thrift store find is a London Fog down/feather filled winter coat, marked down to $10 because of a broken zipper. I sewed in a new one and added a black fur collar from my "tickle trunk" - voila!! Fashionably ready for the cold winter winds for $20. Mom would be proud!

We went to our fifth and last fall supper yesterday evening. The Christmas craft sales season is already started. At least the sales aren't quite as fattening as the suppers. My Pops choir did OK at the Hallowe'en coffeehouse on Sat. even though we were missing a few singers. I wore a church choir robe and collar as a costume - several of the young folks at the coffeehouse asked what I was supposed to be. Times have changed.

Not too happy with my weight these days emoticon emoticon having gained almost 10 lbs since Sept. Just about the amount that it took me all July and August to lose.
With visitors and fall activities, I let my guard down. Started tracking this morning and am determined to stop this trend!

Charlotte, that would be so nice to go to visit Donna and to just meet each other. I do enjoy our "talks" on here.
Donna, I am so happy for you that things are coming together for you before you have your surgery.
Maybe you could go to a yarn shop and ask for a starter pattern for a scarf, hat or whatever you would like to try. You tube has lots of videos to help you out. Being productive while recovering could be a big bonus for you.
I love brussel sprouts cooked anyway but roasted does taste the best.
Sue, I have not tried the toe-up socks yet but I'm sure it won't be long before I get at that.
Sounds like you had a lovely time with your mom and a lot accomplished there also.
It will be nice for you when things are done to your satisfaction in your home too.

Today I have been busy catching up on a lot of things. After our plan to visit grandson was postponed, I decided that I needed to get at some things I need hubby's help for but he is watching TV so I am just working on things I can do myself.

Take care, Carol

Sue - great to catch up on details of your busy life and the good visit with your mom. Not only have you inspired me to start up some knitting but also to try roasting Brussel sprouts. Not a particularly favourite veggie around here either, but plentiful just now in the stores so maybe deserving of a second chance! emoticon again today emoticon and warmer so I spent some time outside cleaning up around the shrubs until my back protested. Don't want to overdo as my Pops Choir is singing at a Hallowe'en coffeehouse at the school tomorrow and I want to be able to stand through all three songs.

The big news is my laundry sink is hooked up and the old, drippy drinking water tap at the kitchen sink is replaced. emoticon emoticon Now dh can stop using the kitchen sink to wash his boots and I can stop using buckets to soak his grimy overalls etc. The plumber also tightened up the drippy tap in the bathroom sink and promised to look for another unit that would suit.

Donna - Tell you what... we'll all come out to visit after your surgery. Carol and Sue can knit with you and I'll cook - wouldn't that be fun? emoticon

Carol- Enjoy your sock knitting. I have finished the body of my grandson's sweater (knit top down) and just have to pick up my stitches and knit the sleeves. Wish that could be done two at a time but I don't think so. Are you knitting your socks toe up?

Donna - Glad that you've found the cleaning help that you were looking for. Good idea to keep your cleaner until you are fully "operational" again! When I knit my socks toe up / two at a time. we used the "fish lips kiss" heel instructions and I had no problem with the doing the heel. Instructions can be found online. Maybe there's some knitting in your future while you recover from the hip and knee surgeries? emoticon

Charlotte - Hope that all of your nasty white stuff has disappeared, It's bee a bit damp around here the past couple of days and not that warm - only about 8 or 9 today. Nice in the sun but the wind is chilly. I see one of our former Ticats will be playing for the Bombers tomorrow night. I always did like Zach but he's had his problems with injuries for sure.

I had a nice visit with mom Monday to Wednesday. My sister was working at a polling station, her hubby was away hunting, so she asked if I could go up to be with mom on Monday. I was thinking of trying to get up for a visit as we didn't' sing this week so it worked out well. Mom had cookie dough made up so baking cookies was on the agenda for Monday afternoon after I arrived. I took leftover turkey soup that hubby had frozen and tossed it in her crock pot to thaw and heat up for supper. She said she wanted a paper shredder so I went online and found one for her at Staples. Ordered it and it arrived Tuesday so we had a shredding party getting rid of some old bills that no longer needed to be kept - with the aid of my sister who looks after mom's finances. It was a cool wet day - good day to stay inside. Mom wanted to cook a roast for dinner that night so we did it with potatoes and a bit of onion around it and I tried my hand at roasting some frozen Brussels sprouts. Not fussy about them, but I'd heard that they were much better roasted and they were. Came home yesterday and have tried to get back on track today with exercise and eating. Happily there was no extra gain on the scales from my time away.
Hubby and I went out to Costco this afternoon to pick up some items; also made an appointment to get the snow tires put on early next week. Also went into Sportchek where I got my fitbit which has not shown any display since before we went away at the end of August. It is tracking but I can't set a particular exercise like using weights so it's not totally effective for me. Of course they don't take it back but we have a number to call now.
Tomorrow morning I'm off for my monthly coffee date with friends. The Tim Horton's that we normally visit is under renovation so we're going to meet at another place downtown. I'll be able to walk and also stop in on my way home to pick up some yarn I ordered for a sweater. Our daughter and grandson may be here this weekend - need to check with her to see if she's still coming. She has some sorting through to do for us. Managed to clear out a small storage space last last week and we've been able to put the bins of pictures that came from hubby's mom's place in there and get them out of the way. Lots more cleaning to be done but I'll get to it eventually!

Take care everyone!

Wouldn’t that be nice. I do have some prepared food but I don’t have much freezer space so I can only have so much. Sure would be nice to have a freezer that i had in our home.
Hubby isn't much of a cook so maybe a little dieting will be happening....

You want a temporary job? Haha

Donna - glad you found cleaning help. That will relieve some of the stress. So, is a personal chef next on your post-surgery support list? I know I wished for one after all the made ahead meals in the freezer were eaten and dh had just heated up one too many cans of soup!

Morning all, it was such a lovely day here yesterday. How can you beat a warm, sunny fall, day.

I am on the countdown to my surgery. I can’t wait as I am so tired of not being able to do what I want. I have also found a cleaning lady who will be here for the first time on Tuesday. I have decided to keep her until I have my knee done. That will take place after I recover from my hip. I have a full year ahead of me....

Carol i wish you and Sue lived closer to me. I tried knitting socks and couldn’t finish the heel part. I think it might have been the pattern I was using.

I think I will go do the chair exercises Coach Nichol posted this morning.

Good morning everyone.

Thank you for your condolences, it meant a lot to me.

Donna, I hope you have found a good cleaning lady.

Sue, your kids are so good to be doing this work for you. Enjoy your time with your mom.

Charlotte, hopefully you have been able to get out again after all the snow dumped in your area.

It is so nice to see the sunshine again today. The wind has also gone but left a lot of leaves to clean up. We actually don’t have a tree on our property but with everyone raking them to the road for pickup in November, they all seem to end up on our front lawn.

I am enjoying knitting socks again and today will start the heel for my grandsons “Eagles” socks. I do enjoy doing them two at a time because I don’t have to stop to count and measure.

Have an enjoyable weekend.
Take care, Carol

Hi all - I don't know where my brain has been because I totally forgot to come back this week to check for posts and I see there's been quite a bit of chatting!

Carol - Sorry for your losses. Even when we know our relatives or friends have lived a good long life, it's still hard to realize that they are gone. I'm sure your grandson will love the socks. Good luck with the knitting - it will take some time. Two at a time is the way a couple of ladies who used to come to our knitting group always knit socks. It's great to have them both finished at the same time!

Donna- Hope that you are successful in finding a cleaning lady. Cleaning services (like Molly Maid) tend to be expensive so it's nice if you can find someone who works independently. Glad that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving. It is a lot of work but worth it when we're able to spend time with family.

Charlotte - I was thinking of you with all that snow! Hope that it's all disappeared now and Mr.Brian is back to enjoying his favourite wet food. I'm not sure we'd hear the end of it if our Roxy didn't have her wet food everyday! Cats!! I thought that the crews at IG Field did a great job in having the field cleared off for the game. Aside from the occasional views of the piles of snow off to the side, one wouldn't have known that there had been that much snow. We had a heavy wet snowfall in late October quite a number of years ago that resulted in a large limb of our maple tree that used to grace our lawn, started to snap off and was resting on the power line. We didn't realize it until we saw the local power company out cutting off the branch. Unfortunately that spelled the end of our maple tree - we had to have it removed not long after.

We had a good Thanksgiving. Our daughter brought a smoked turkey that was large enough for all of us but hubby had purchased a small smoked turkey too which we didn't even touch. he divided it in half and and sent a half home with our son and half with our daughter. i also had an abundance of turnip casserole so send the small extra casserole home with our son. He's doing the Toronto marathon this Sunday and the most important thing he's doing this week to prepare is eat!
Our son-in-law caulked our stairs going to the second level and that took care of a lot of the squeaks. He also got three sash windows upstairs stripped and repainted and put up the new light fixture in the upstairs hallway. There's sill some painting to be done in the bathroom, a bit in two of the bedrooms and some trim to be done on the stairs. Getting the windows done when the temp was warm enough to have them open for a while though was the right job for the past weekend. Hubby and I are going to the final Ticats game the beginning of November and they'll come up to finish the painting while we're away.
Our son got some drawers cleaned out in his old room but sill has a bit of stuff to go through. Our daughter was busy helping her hubby and didn't get going through her stuff so she's coming up with our grandson next weekend when her hubby is away visiting a relative.
This week hasn't been too busy - knitting on Tuesday and singing on Wednesday. On Monday I'm going to head up to mom's for a couple of days to have a visit since we don't sing next week and our monthly coffee date has been moved to next Friday. I did have to change a Tuesday appointment but it's nothing that can't wait a couple of weeks. My sister is working the election and will be gone from early morning to late evening, her hubby will be away hunting. She was concerned about leaving mom all day, especially since she was still in bed and asleep at almost 10 a.m. yesterday. That's unusual for mom who almost always up before 8 a.m. I'm overdue for a good visit with mom so will vote early and then head up to mom's so she's not on her own all day.

Hope that everyone has a good weekend. I'll have to remember to stop by again soon!

Donna it is good to have a cleaning lady booked before your surgery.
Charlotte, two Thanksgiving dinners. Yummy!!

Last week we were notified for the passing of 2 family members. Both in their 90’s but it is still hard to say good bye. Although I am thankful that they are out of pain and with their family in Heaven.

Take care, Carol

Good luck with the search for a cleaning lady. They're a godsend when you're in pain and awfully hard to give up after recovery, as I've found.

We had two turkey Thanksgiving dinners and I didn't cook either one. Sunday with dh's cousins and Monday at a fall supper.

Thanksgiving went well with lots of h lip from the family. This will be my last dinner until I have recovered from my surgeries. It was just too hard even with all the help.

I am,now,in the process of finding a cleaning lady. Dh cannot help so we have to resort to this. I have exhausted my friends so had to resort to Craigslist. I have to check out a few references and then it should be done. At least we will be home when she comes.....

Day 3 of snowing here but the end is in sight. More cars on the highway, the cows have come out of the bush looking for hay and Mr. Reggie, the head barn cat, came to the platform this morning looking for his daily treat. We're definitely having a white Thanksgiving. Thank goodness the temp is just around freezing and not much wind, so the snow is wet and heavy. Not the greatest football weather for sure. I'm sure the announcers will have lots to say about that during this afternoon's Winnipeg Bombers game. Much damage to trees and power lines, especially in the city. Power was out here for about an hour the first day but just a few brown outs since. Others are not so lucky. I hope I can get to the grocery store this afternoon as our last carton of milk went sour (I made biscuits) and Mr. Brian, the pampered house cat has had to make do with the "nasty dry crap" Friskies instead of his favourite canned variety.
I've never seen a snowstorm this early (the leaves are still on the trees emoticon , or were! emoticon ) or last this long.

Carol, Sue - I'm inspired by all your knitting projects to fire up my sewing machine and get busy of my own project pile - mostly mending, not very creative, but might be what's needed to keep my nose out of the fridge and bread tin!

Marty - haven't heard from you lately. Hope all is well.

Donna, the weather sure has been crazy this year and I hope your son will be Ok.
Enjoy your company.

Sue, sounds like you are going to have a great Thanksgiving with your family.
Your weight gain could have come from the exercises you have done. You will add muscle.
I haven’t tried the magic loop yet but do knit socks 2 at a time on 2 16” needles. I love it because they are both the same without all the counting and measuring. I actually have yarn that I have to wind and weigh to get 2 balls to get started on the latest pair. My 25 year old grandson is an Eagles fan and after a long search, I found the green needed to make him a pair of socks. They do go faster but he wears a size 12 so it is a lot of knitting on them.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Carol.

A busy day for me too as my company is arriving around lunchtime time...I have to pick them up at the ferry and of course have a few things to do for tomorrow.

Our son lives in Manitoba and they lost power all day yesterday because of the storm. This is way too early for this kind of snow!

Hi all - Haven't checked in for a couple of days. Daughter and her hubby and our grandson will be arriving today, son is coming up tomorrow for the day as he's working this morning. He's also probably getting in a last long run before his marathon race (Toronto) next weekend.

Charlotte - I saw that you were getting hit with nasty "winter" weather for thanksgiving. We've had lovely weather here this past week - until today - dull and rainy and it will be cooler but the sun should return by tomorrow. I'll see how bad the conditions are when I watch the Winnipeg Montreal game later today. Not the best football weather. Hope that everything soon clears and you can get out. I've been back on the 5% challenge - exercising consistently, eating reasonably (within range) and I STILL gained just over a pound this week, Earlier in the week I was down close to a pound so that's the frustrating thing! I've been treading the straight and narrow since we got past the birthday hoopla. Guess I'll see what happens when I eat turkey (not that it's high far) dressing, turnip casserole, cranberry sauce (made by me with sweetener) and pumpkin pie this weekend and don't get in any exercise for a couple of days!

Carol - I just finished a couple of baby caps that my daughter asked me to make when she was here a couple of weeks ago. Started on a sweater for my grandson but will set it aside this weekend so I can work on my own sweater with the yarn that I brought back from England.Have a couple more possible projects (cardigans) on the back burner for me but we'll see. One is a knit-along at a local hobby/yarn store owned by a member of our knitting group. Have you tried doing the socks two at a time yet using magic loop? I used magic loop for the baby caps - much easier when decreasing stitches - no switching to DPNs

Had a Drifters cancellation already this week - one of the homes has a flu bug and closed to visitors. We did have two performances scheduled but I'm not sure where everyone was for the other one unless it was the nice weather. Anyway we managed well enough with our small group - even our three part song.

Better go and get my turnip casserole made since my turnip is now all cooked. (microwaves are marvelous!)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! emoticon emoticon

Marilyn I find in the summer I am busier and don't like to spend very much time on the computer. We are having beautiful weather here right now and I will take advantage of it as long as I can.
I was very happy to deliver the finished baby set to the future mom and dad this week. I finish one project and start another one right away.
I am now knitting what they call POUFS, when I finish knitting I will stuff them and sew closed and we will use them for footstools or the little ones will be able to sit on them. When finished I will be back at making socks.

I do hope everyone has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend.

Take care, Carol

Marilyn - I've found that most of the general chat group threads on SP are like this one - a lot of activity at first and fewer as time goes by. I guess the participation depends on what you're looking for. For me, I enjoy getting to know others across Canada, sharing the" joys and sorrows" so to speak, but don't always have the time to post every day.

Donna - you must be hoping the next five or so weeks fly by. Coincidently, your surgery date is the same day I go for my six month checkup with my hip surgeon. (Actually, it was supposed to be today, but a massive blizzard is underway here in MB, roads closed, schools cancelled, trees down, - the whole 9 yards, so the 45 minute drive to Winnipeg is out of the question)

emoticon to Sue. Sounds like a fun celebration with family. Ordering in or pot luck is the way to go for any special occasion/holiday meals I think. We're having a "white" Thanksgiving this year emoticon so other than going to church (if it isn't cancelled due to icy roads or poor visibility) we don't have anything special planned. I'm hoping the storm clears enough by tomorrow afternoon so I can get to the grocery store. Just opened the last can of cat food and our last carton of milk has gone sour. time to make biscuits!

My TOPS meeting was cancelled last night - I wasn't looking forward to facing the scale as I've been backsliding miserably the past few weeks. emoticon Seems in the fall, my appetite goes on overdrive, and the abundance of fall suppers in our area sure doesn't help! Oh well, I know what to do...less eating and more singing!

Happy T hanksgiving to all! emoticon

emoticon Marilyn. This group can alternate between being moderately active to not very active at all. I try to check in every couple of days and will post if others have posted since my last post but I don't post otherwise. That's a bit too much like talking to oneself!
It's nice to see a new face on here - mainly there are three to four of us who probably post the most but it can vary.

Donna - That is GREAT news about the hip surgery. I know that I've mentioned my friend who had hip surgery last winter and the one thing that she loved after the surgery was the absence of the pain that she'd had before surgery and that was the first time she was up the following day. She also has had both knees replaced - first one just about four years ago and the other one a few months later. She doesn't regret any of it. The recovery can be tough for a bit but you'll be happier and more mobile once everything is done. Good luck finding a house keeper.

Carol - Thanks! I'm happy to say that I am back to normal - was a bit surprised that it took over a week but I suspect that the cold and the fact that we'd travelled over 16000 kms over a two week period contributed to my slow return to normalcy. i was feeling my usual self a week ago Tuesday when I headed to knitting group for the first time this fall and also had enough energy for my Drifters practice last Wednesday.
Our family was here on the weekend to help me celebrate my birthday which was late last week. Still too much stuff in the dining room but we managed to make it work for breakfast on Saturday morning. Ordered pizza Friday night and went out for dinner when everyone was here on Saturday night. Our SIL was not able to join us until Saturday so our daughter and grandson came up with our son on Friday night.
On Monday hubby and I went to my brother's place just south of Huntsville for a joint birthday get together with my siblings who both had birthdays last month too a couple of weeks before mine. Mom likes to take us out but having a meal (ordering in if possible or in this case taking prepared food already cooked) at one of our homes makes it easier to visit and we can spend a bit more time together.
Tuesday was very warm - warmest weather I'd felt since landing in London at the end of August! But we did get rain and I had to don my poncho for my walk home from knitting group after running around trying to get my battery in my old HRM replaced. Yesterday it was only about 11 C but not too bad for my short trek up the street to the nursing home to sing and direct the Drifters. Today it didn't make it past 8 C and i see that it has started raining - been very overcast all day. Didn't have to go anywhere today and have enjoyed a nice quiet day. Might take a stab tomorrow to see if there's anything else that I can clear out of the dining room. Family will be here next weekend for Thanksgiving so they can cull through their stuff which is a portion of what is still taking up space. I'd like to have it cleared out before we try to have a Thanksgiving dinner in there next weekend.

Take care everyone!

Hi just stopping by and must say though there are the same few people posting on this thread, for a group this size there is really not much going on - makes me wonder if a lot of the members just aren't around any longer - or wondering if people join and then just decided not to participate which brings up other thoughts like why join a group if not willing to participate.

I must say I would participate more if more were participating - strange I know but am thankful that a few are keeping the group together - I would take a bet that more than 1/2 of the members are no longer involved anywhere here on Sparkpeople - hope that is not true but it seems the large groups I have looked at have the same problem - lots of members but only a small handful participate - does not encourage me to join them though the names of the groups draw me - such as this being 'Canadian' but only a few are here - or is it only this thread

I hope I will be able to get back on here more often.
Donna, you do have a busy year coming up with surgeries but I'm sure it will be worth it.
Sue, Hopefully you will feel better soon and have your home put back the way you want it.
Charlotte, have you got any of the snow they keep talking about on the news?

Welcome to our new members.

I certainly am not enjoying our weather lately, air conditioner one day and furnace the next. This is crazy but nothing I can do about it so I just take it as it comes. It is nice weather to sit and knit though.

Take care, Carol

It’s really quiet here lately. I went to my orthopedic surgeon yesterday and I finally have a date for my first surgery.....November 19. Yikes, that is only six weeks away.
When he came in to see me he had a cast on his right arm. You know what that means......6 weeks in a cast then who knows how long before he can operate. We asked me if I would like his partner to do the surgery. He made me feel very confident that I would be in good hands. So I agreed.....
I really feel, thst I could not wait too much longer. I might not even be able to walk if I waited. Right after I recover from the hip surgery I will have my knee done. Not a good year ahead. I am now looking for a cleaning lady.

emoticon Marilyn. I'm not from BC but there is a poster on here who is from Surrey - Donna (I'm sure she won't mind me mentioning her name) and there's also Marty who is somewhere on the BC coast but doesn't post too often.

Good Luck with your renewed journey. Hope that the reasons that caused you to previously close your account are resolved and won't re-occur.

Donna - I'm just starting to get back to normal but I wouldn't call me super busy - not yet. I'll be busier once the Drifters start up in just over a week. Hubby has ordered a couple of new small bookcases for the bedroom so that should eliminate some of the clutter that seemed to pile up around the bedroom. Might be able to take the small shelf that I'm currently using and put it in one of the other rooms.
Haven't done too much with the other bedrooms yet as there are a couple of walls that need to be finished up and some of the items going back into them belong to our daughter and son so I need them to go through and try to eliminate some of the extra clutter. It's sill going to take some time - we'll get there eventually. At some point I'm going to need my dining room table back (and the rest of the space around it). I think the kids will be around next weekend so maybe we can make a bit of progress then.
That's quite the trip for your uncle. Good for him for not letting lack of mobility slow him down. I have an uncle who lives on Vancouver Island (currently in a nursing home because of Alzheimer's ) but he used to drive across the country on his own to our family reunions when he was in his 80s. I think he's about 90 now, Not sure I'd want to make the trip on my own but he seemed to enjoy it.
Got some reading done after church and early this afternoon. Now it's time to maybe switch to some knitting. and maybe check out some NFL action. I'm not at all into hockey and the Jays season (hubby's preferred sport) will soon be over. It's warm and muggy here today - had lots of rain overnight judging by the puddles - but it's supposed to clear off I think for tomorrow. and I suspect we'll get rid of the humidity again.

Wow Sue you sound lime a super busy lady. That is the one the good thing about painting is that it forces you to think about everything thst you need to put away again. Why do we keep so much unnecessary stuff. Good luck with the culling.
That seem to be never ending for me too.
My hubby is enjoying getting back to hockey and football season. He likes watching the Seahawks too but that is really the only NFL team he follows.
We are off to visit an old Uncle of mine. He traveled from Thunderbay by himself. That is quite an accomplishment since he gets around with a walker and a scooter.

Charlotte - Glad that you got some relief finally from heat and humidity. - it's hard enough to deal with in July let alone September although we have certainly experienced it in September the past couple of years. This year (when we've been here) it's been more cool to average. It's supposed to be warm this weekend but we'll see how warm it actually gets.
Your choir is certainly more ambitious than our little Drifters choir but then we have a different audience and try to stick to music that our listeners will remember from the past. And we probably have more members who don't read music than those who do, so keep our arrangements simple. We do little part singing. Enjoy all of your music!
A couple of our members who play piano but wouldn't want to jump in to our regular program at short notice if our pianist is ill, have put together their own programs of music that we could use as an alternate should our pianist not be able to play. One is all music that we've done at various times so won't be hard to pick up for our group. The other member was involved in a choir in Arizona during the 15 winters they spent down there (they stopped going last year and joined our group) so she's put together a program of familiar songs with a bit of a western flair (Your Cheatin' Heart, King of the Road e.g.) that most people will know but probably haven't sung. Don't know if we'll ever need to use either program but I spent time with the pianist yesterday taking a look at them and going over some hymns in the second program that she thought wouldn't be too familiar although most I did recognize, We also did some planning for extra practices and even decided on our program for November! We're so far ahead of the game this year, we'll probably forget where we are! emoticon emoticon

As for the keto diet, weight loss apparently occurs quickly but the diet is so limiting that it's hard to maintain long term. I've also heard that long term use can lead to unpleasant side effects like hair loss, sweating/chills, confusion, lightheartedness. Not anything that I want to experience. I've always felt that a balanced diet with moderation being the key, is the best way for long term weight loss and maintenance.

In spite of good intentions, I didn't make it downstairs to the treadmill today. I started going through some music while hubby was out and got out most of the music that had been stuffed in a cupboard since our SIL did paint our living room while we were gone (as well as all of the upstairs). My piano is looking like it's old self with my binders of music returned to take up residence although I will try to keep it neater and did a bit of editing so that not everything that was there before went back. I also cleared some of my things from the dining room and got them back up to our bedroom - again editing and trying to avoid having my shelf look too cluttered. Put a few other items back in the living room too although our daughter had already shifted some items back for us. Still some things to be hung up but I think we'll wait a bit longer before hanging pictures back up on the walls so that the paint has more time to "cure" (I think that's still applies - it used to be a "thing"). I did get in some activity if not "real" exercise Now I'm all geared up for Friday night CFL football especially the second game on the slate which has my Ticats playing in Edmonton and going for win #10!
