Yes, lately I prefer to walk than to run. I used to be a runner. I have done a 1/2 marathon. I got injured at different times running and it threw me off my exercise pattern. Now I go out for a nice long walk of 4-6 miles and I still feel like I am getting a good workout. I'm learning to stay in shape, but not push myself to where I get injured. I have two degenerated discs in my neck so I have to be careful exercise doesn't cause me neck pain. I am able to enjoy nature and music more when I am walking than when I was running. My hope is that walking is still enough exercise to keep the weight off like running has done for me in the past. I also alternate walking with zumba to get my heart rate up, but I admit that I am not able to do as high intensity of I workout as I used to. Maybe when I lose more weight and gain more muscle I will be able to workout at higher intensity again. I will see how it goes!

I have never run as part of my exercise program but generally walk 5 days a week at a brisk 4-4.2 mph. It works just fine for me.

I do and that's good! I've been medically advised not to run. I have genetic knee problems that make running dangerous for me. I walk a lot however. I am an urban dweller and walk to get around plus I walk for fun too.

I jogged (4 minutes) and walked (1 minute) again and again until I crossed the 5k finish line a few weeks ago. (Thanks to the SP rookie training!) I found that while I don`t dislike running, my body prefers race-walking.

I was never much of a runner. I tried a little 3 years ago. I did like running. Then I injured my knee. Now I'm thankful I can walk and do some low impact aerobics. I'm working my way back to doing some fast walking.

Cannot stand to jog. Occasionally, I'll run fast for 50 yards or so a few times during my walk.....if I'm feeling energetic.

that would be me, love to walk, can't run, feel heavy and get tired quickly. I was training myself to run, only did for one week and ran 1 mile without stopping...and that was it.

I love to walk. It is my favorite exercise and one I do daily. Even at my youngest and fittest, I disliked every second of running I ever did (which wasn't much). At this point in my life, running is no longer an option due to the arthritis in my knees.

I walk. I would like to be ABLE to run, but have to lose quite a bit more weight first as my knees can't take the stress. Don't know that I'd enjoy it, though.
I really enjoy walking, especially going different routes. Walking allows me to be able to take in the scenery. I'd like to go hiking as well, if I could find a place to do so.

Walking. I add a little jogging into it here and there- when I am on a smooth surface. I hear so much about 'the runners high' and would like to experience it- but now with my fitness level I am doing what I can with a little push. I want to stay as injury free as possible.

I only walk, on the treadmill (using incline intervals in my program).

I am 63 and am concerned about injuries; I would rather keep walking than run and hurt myself.

I am consistently increasing my walking speed. emoticon

I really dislike long distance running, I just feel like I'm beating on my knees. I have found that I really like sprinting. What I have started doing is taking my dog for a 1 mile walk to the grade school soccer field where we do interval training. When done it's a 1 mile walk home.

Example of the interval training:
Sprint long side
Sit ups at the corner
Sprint short side
Equate
Sprint long end
Push-ups
Sprint short end
Lunges

As a bonus I can toss the ball for my dog on everything but the push ups. :)

I walk about 3.8 miles every morning, weather permitting. Sometimes I get going and start jogging, but I am so quickly out of breath that the jog only lasts maybe a block or so. Also, I don't like the feeling of my caboose jarring up and down so much when I jog. I have lost 30 lbs. overall since I started, but it seems like these last 10 lbs. are never going to come off.

I mostly walk but try to throw in a few little spurts of jogging (~2 minutes at a time). I don't think I've worked up to being able to run for very long and not pass out yet, and also my butt just jiggles too much. :\ According to the treadmill, I vary between 3.5 and 5mph.

I walk instead of run. Running never quite worked for me. That and no matter what I wear the girls always end up unhappy. (I have all, but strapped them down.) So, I walk. Also, I live in Florida and it can get quite humid during the summer and I found out that horrible humidity plus running makes my asthma act up a little.

Walking is for me!

I have tried running because I thought it would be better. The best I could do was a combo run/walk. I wanted to enjoy it and was disappointed when I realized not only do I not really enjoy it, but I'm not good at it. I can't get the rhythm with the breathing, etc and after a while it bothers my legs and my feet (yes, my knees were fine, I just have to be different I guess).

So, I walk and do the elliptical and the stationary bike as well as work out DVDs. It keeps variety and those things I enjoy. Do what you like and you will see results. Good luck!

do what you can do consistently... it's much better to walk for a lifetime than run hard for a week. I hurt my back and can't run right now, I'm just trying to increase my distance per week. Last week I made it 30 km.

Yeah, I don't run anymore. Walk often. It's great. When I first started though my weight increased because my body was toned (muscle). A bit of water retention too. Fine now though. I won't run again. Results are great with the walking program.

I know brisk walking doesn't burn as many calories as running but I have just lost my love for running lately. Does anyone else walk for excercise instead of run? Sometimes I feel like I'm wimping out because there is no physical reason why I can't run...I just don't like to lately. I played soccer in high school and ran for fitness afterwards. I have been trying to get back into running shape after having my baby and have found that I just don't enjoy it like I use too. I am trying to find something I can stick with on a consistent basis and to me I prefer walking. Do you think that is ok or am I not "pushing" myself hard enough? (I actually walk 3.5-4 mph which is considered brisk walking and heart healthy)
