I didn't realize I was on the DASH diet until I'd been sparking for several weeks. I had first read it about a year before (my husband posted it on the fridge for himself while I was pregnant in 2011). I looked it over and thought "That sounds really healthy, but I can't imagine eating that many vegetables". After I had my baby I started tracking my food and really worked to boost my vegetables. We switched to low fat dairy because my children were getting pretty round.

After I'd been tracking my food on Sparkpeople for a few months, I read the US News ranking of best diets, saw the DASH diet on there, and looked it up and realized that was how I was trying to eat. I was excited to learn it is backed up by research by the NHLBI. And really, the Sparkpeople food tracker steers you toward a DASH type diet if you are using the daily feedback report, especially if you track sodium.

Here is the short version of my success story (for the benefit of the group, I already emailed Terri) www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

I have had high blood pressure but was able to keep it under control with just a diuretic but 3 years ago I ended up in the hospital with what the nurse described as "deadly" low pressure. They pumped me full of potassium and sent me home with a different medication, an ace inhibitor and a new resolve to change my diet to help lower my hypertension. I discovered the Dash Diet and have stuck to it since then. I eat lots of vegetables and plenty of fruit. I cut back on bread, fats and sugar, following the diet plan as closely as possible and I'm never hungry. This morning before I took my meds my BP was 129/75. After meds it is usually 117/69. I feel that the Dash Diet deserves much credit for this.

Sorry, cannot help. I am a work in progress. It would be so interesting to hear some of the success stories. It would keep me motivated.

A goal is not enough - You have to have a plan.

You have not failed until you fail to try.

If hunger is not the problem, then food is not the answser.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Terri and I work for SP in the Public Relations dept. I came across your Team and thought this would be the perfect place to start for the latest media request I've received. A writer from 'FIRST for Women" magazine is working on a piece about DASH diet success stories and would like to feature some SparkPeople members! Here is the criteria:

* Must be female (sorry, guys- it's a ladies mag!)
* Ideal age range is 20-60 yrs. old
* Must have lost a dramatic amount of weight utilizing the DASH diet and have compelling 'before' and 'after' photos that you are willing to share.

If you meet the above criteria and would like to have your story submitted, please contact me ASAP! (Information needs to be submitted by first thing Friday morning at the latest). Please let me know your name and Spark Name, age, highest weight vs. current weight and a brief summary of your experience with the DASH diet. If you have photos you'd like to send, please email to: SparkPeopleSuccess@gmail.com with the subject line FIRST photos. Your other information can be sent to that email address as well or you can always SparkMail me at SPTerriV.

Thanks in advance for your consideration!
