Many people are surprised, but most of what REALLY helps you lose weight is in your head. That’s why many times, weight loss attempts and surgeries fail. We don’t change our thinking.

I think, personally, that realizing it was more head work than just a diet was crucial for me. It came to me when I had applied and got accepted for weight loss surgery. I was listening to the people in the pre surgery classes, where the post surgery people talked... they were all still wanting to eat when they were not hungry, when they were emotional, when things just tasted good, past the point of fullness. It made me think... “Why would I have my stomach cut open to feel how I already feel?” There must be something wrong with my thinking.

So I set out to fix my thinking in 2006. Here it is 2017 and I’ve maintained a 200 pound plus loss.

The top three things I did to lose weight.

1) Track my food.

2) Forgive and move on immediately.

3) Think of myself as a success.

I’m not a radical results kind of girl. Every time I try for radical results, I burn out and fail. I’m more of a step by step person. Good luck with your changes. I hope everything goes well!

Hey Lili!

Thanks for asking! My top 3 things that I did is

1.) Record everything that I put in my mouth. I do this because it makes me feel like I am in control; I am empowered and feel less like a "victim." I bought a digital spoon which I use to scoop up small foods and record them to the gram. I bought a digital scale to record larger items (apples, broccoli, everything!). Yes, it's tedious at first, but it gets a lot easier, especially if you eat the same things every day.

2.) Keep the foods I eat simple. I hate recipes, so I eat foods I can easily record. I create groupings on SP (like my special extra large garbage salads) and easily transfer the groups from day to day.

3) Stay away from TV. I use down time to read blogs and articles and reach out to others.

Surprisingly I didn't mention exercise. Exercise is important, but only when you are ready for it. I like to make one significant change at a time and give it 3 weeks before moving onto another habit.

My question is what are the top three things that you did to lose the weight? Also, I'm really struggling with tracking food and being consistent exercising for just the 10 minutes a day. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey there,

I'm looking for a team or a challenge that is aggressive. I'm 200 pounds overweight and have locked down my food plan and my exercise plan. I've done this before (you might remember me from 5 years ago when I lost 152 pounds and was an avid SP member). But I expect to see radical results (2 lbs a week) now. Any ideas?
