ICANINSIGHT, try not to push yourself so hard that you push yourself down. Progress not perfection. Try planning ahead with limited VERY filling healthy snacks. For example, limit yourself to two snacks per day, but make them high protein/high fiber with some healthy fat. That combination will kick in the hunger killing hormone lepton in your body for longer than other foods. Fats, protein, and fiber all take longer to process in the body, thus keeping you fuller longer. Two of my favorite go to snacks are an apple with peanut butter- I melt the pb in the microwave a few seconds so it’s like a dip... And a Slim Fast High Protein Shake.

I have gained weight. Trying to eat healthy and not eat snacks. The snacking is my downfall. I am not busy enough during the day. I need a re-charge. I don't eat sugar, drink any soda and don't eat a lot. snacking is my downfall. I got lax in exercise, so I am making more of an effort to hit the treadmill 5 days a week.

Before we get this new Challenge started, I have a question?
How many of you, if any, weigh yourself on your Wii? I do it there and on a scale and the scale is usually 2# heavier, but the Wii weight is closer to what the Dr.'s scale says. Just wondering!

When I'm tempted to eat, I'll journal or blog. I use the nutritional planner at least a day in advance so it's all written in and I don't have to think about it. I know what's planned and it's a relief not making any further decisions about what to eat.

I stay within my recommended calorie allotment and stay hydrated daily. I aim for enough sleep and sometimes have to nap to get my total 8 hours. I exercise with light weights and do what cardio I can. Some days I can do more. Autoimmune diseases like lupus, tend to go in cycles, so if I'm having a flare, I have to be gentle and patient with myself. That, in itself, is a major ongoing lesson. Patience.

I'm ready for the 5% Summer Challenge and the Get Ready for New Year's Challenge. One starts on June 30th, the other starts July 1st. I'm ready to rock and roll and have a blast.

Joy is a Choice. Choose joy moment by moment.

When all else fails, persistence prevails.

Today I did hop on the scale and was very disgusted with myself!! then I thought, rather than working myself over with a good tongue lashing, I will get my shoes on and hit the trail! And I looked around for obvious sneaky things that made their way back into my mouth and they are now UNWELCOME!! Enough!

Hey, I’ve been there. You really have to shake things up to get it moving. What I found that helped me was eating more organic Whole Foods and less processed foods and more protein. Oh yes, I still eat processed foods, just less.

I am still down 20 pounds from when I started Spark People 3 or so years ago. That's a good thing!
But lately I have just been maintaining: up two, down 2, etc.

Today I am going to start writing down everything I put in my mouth again. I know I am good with the 8 glasses of water a day but I need work on eating more fruit and veggies. Pasta is my weakness but I try to use whole grain as much as possible.
Any suggestions?

I had to have a biometric screening done, and my blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and waist circumference results put me at higher risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke, etc. I haven't been consistent with exercise or eating healthy and it shows. It's a wake up call. It's time to quit making excuses and do my best each day to make healthy choices. My biggest struggles are overeating carbs, and not sticking with exercising. Any suggestions?

You have to first figure out why it hurts. Possibly there is an undiagnosed medical issue. If it is diagnosed, perhaps you could start with physical therapy. That’s what I did.

I’m very tired too. Sometimes it’s due to illness like fibromyalgia or something like lack of nutrients. You need to investigate why you feel so tired. It honestly is not normal.

Eating better will help. Doing mild exercises will help. Jumping in and exhausting yourself with an extremely perfectionist type of diet an exercise plan will only make it worse. Be gentle

I am struggling bad this summer with exercise and food choices. My life is so busy right now. My daughter has math camp from 8:30-10:00. My son has band camp from 8:30-5 every day this week. Then Sunday he heads to band camp for the week. My husband is still traveling a lot. I want to get back to the gym but I can not leave my nine year old at home by herself. Any food recommendations would be helpful. I am still sitting at 310-315 and unsure of how many calories I should be eating. If I can not get the weight going down they want me to have gastric bypass and I do not want surgery to be the answer. Please help

Trying to at least maintain while I cannot exercise nor use the scale to judge my progress due to the boot needing to be on my foot at all times. I have 9 more days to go to see if I can give up the boot or at least cut down on wearing it. At that point, I can once again weigh and see how I've done the last 6 or 7 weeks!

I am journaling my food, drinking my water, getting in my freggies and I've lost another 2.5 lbs so I guess it's working well! It's not coming off at lightening speed but it is coming off!

That's a long drive. Make sure you take plenty of breaks. We do the South of France in a day from London, so I know what a long drive feels like, and not just for the driver...

Thanks for caring. Just tonight kids insist we leave for NC on Tuesday as DIL is flying to FL to see her mom on East Coast. She will work in IBM office on Monday, come here late Mon eve in rental car and we will all be ready to leave by 7 AM on Tues., return rental car and she will drive our SUV straight through to NC in about 11 12 hrs. Just hope trip is not too hard on DH.Thanks for letting me run this by as it helps me line things up.

Spent entire day at hospital. Now make doctor's calls and arrange for earlier trip home for DH to have open-heart surgery. One of the hardest things to face is no graduations for us. Never thought I would live to see grandchild graduate from college as we had been married 40 years before having first grandchild. But I know things could be worse!

Hi Debbie,
Thanks for listening (reading) and responding!
Glad you had good weight loss and hope the next week will also be good.
It is hard for me to stay off the scales but I plan to get on just once a week. That will be real challenge for me.
Got airline reservations with help of our darling DIL as I couldn't find the great prices she had found earlier in day. She walked me through it. (sometimes we Srs. need that extra guidance) on the computer.
I feel good having 1 1/2 days back on track and plan to continue even though I refuse to get any groceries as we have less than 1 month to empty freezer and fridge for the summer. We usually cart home foods but can't when flying.
Better get back to those taxes!!!

CAROLJ35 ..... Remember to take time for YOU during this stressful time. Get your fluids in, take a stroll along the way, deep breathing is great for stress, and I wish I could suggest help for 3 graduations but man oh man, thats a tuff one. Just remember they all love you and will understand your limitations. emoticon

SHANTODD420 ..... I started tweeking my food plan one item at a time. I did notice that having my dinner around 5 and haveing nothing after helped kick my weight loss in to gear again. I have no idea what your diet needs may,be but if you need a snack late in the evenings for health reasons, try a protien snack like scrambled egg whites..... just a thought.

Joined the Spring Challenge on this team and finally feel motivated once again.
Determined to lose this re-gained 20 lbs.
Many of us have all these extra things on our agendas and we just have to use determination. Right now I am knee deep in income taxes, DH goes for heart cathertization on Thursday, need to make reservations to fly home later in April so we can get good rates, have everything packed in car so kids can pick it up and drive it home, and don't know yet if DH's surgery to replace heart valve will be urgent, but know it will be soon.
Have 3 graduations (grandkids) in 3 different states and will be so disappointed if we can't attend. No wonder my mind is swimming!!!
Thanks for providing a place for me to vent!!!

I have been stuck at 314 since Christmas and getting frustrated but we have a lot going on right now. We are in the process of selling our home here in Michigan. We are moving to Arizona in June. This week we are heading to Florida for spring break on Friday.
