My husband brought home Easter candy basket that the staff gave him from work ~ I have had none (I like chocolate). Prior to that my husband and adult son brought home 8 huge cinnamon homemade rolls from my mother-in-law Easter family gathering ~ I had NONE at the gathering and NONE that they brought home. After seeing them laying there day after day, I got the ladder out - put them on top shelf of pantry (my son is 6'3" he can reach without the ladder) and made myself a piece of toast and sprinkled some cinnamon on it (no sugar - I'm diabetic) then slowly enjoyed eating it - completely satisfied!

One nice thing related to Girl Scout cookies, some troops will let customer donate their boxes purchased to send to our military members stationed overseas. Can support both with a single purchase that doesn't add any sugar, carbs, fats or calories in MY body.

I just lost the last 2 lbs of the 11 lb water weight gain from my medication change- Whew!! As a new diabetic ( found out last Monday) I am thrilled that I didn't have to change my eating style. The nurse said I was good to go on that. She did say I needed to move more!! Working on that one in little steps!

I was craving a dessert and had the idea to have a mashed banana, something I haven't had since I was a kid.

I have to brag about my hubby's homemade soup. He is very conscious health wise when he cooks as what we eat.

I had chicken soup today he made and it was delicious. Even took some to my neighbor for her

lunch. In return she taught me to knit for starters.

Three nights ago he made Stew. Again I took some to her.


Had enough as her one friend was coming for supper planned. So she shared the big dish of stew . Was no need for her to cook. Ha-ha.
Her friend loved it.

A brag for last week: went to movies twice and my DH got movie popcorn both times. I didn't have even one kernel.
(Also our son was there and he can't have per orthodontist's orders because it will break his braces, so I wanted to support him.)

Today, went to an Italian restaurant in time for Early Bird Specials. I had a cup of Turkey Barley soup for a starter, which had lots of kale, celery and onion in it. For entree I had 4 oz. of scallops "broiled dry" instead of with buttered bread crumbs and floating in butter, and butternut squash instead of pasta on the side. I loved it! (DH & son had meatballs, deep fried ravioli and chicken parm.)

CINDYRENEA ..... We are having one of GD's over tonight as well.... Good job on battling through! Every small step is a HUGE leap in your walk every day! Good Job....


This week I have managed to maintain the 5 pound loss from last week. I worked on my journal (ALL) week and learned so many new things about (ME) that I did not know. This lesson in (MYSELF) has been a huge eye opener and so much help on my health journey!

I have stayed strong and tripped one evening but instead of saying (Oh well, might as well finish out my cravings since I have already messed up), I told myself (ENOUGH!) and pushed through.

No guarantee that I will always stay strong, but at least I am pushing on!

My brag for January 2016 so far is

1) Goal is to lose 8.5 pounds by the 31st - emoticon

2) Waist measurement down 1 1/2 inches

3) Intentional exercise - walking
Goal was to walk 5 minutes a day for 31 days = 155 minutes
January 20 I have walked 115 minutes = 40 more minutes to make monthly goal
January 6 - 31 goal was to walk 125 minutes = have walked 115 so will complete that goal today

Will be interesting to see how far and above I go on these goals for January

I think has SP has recipes for protein bars and I know it has recipes for various things made with protein powders, if some of those are rice-free. Maybe you could make a batch of your own bars and control the ingredients?

If it worked out well, I bet you could make a big batch and freeze some to have over the long term.

Today I am coddling myself and taking things easy. I plan to take a nice long shower and hit my back with really warm water.....

LDYSABELLA ..... Yes, its weird that they can't develop one that's high in protein without the rice.... I am also allergic to Rye & Barley. Thank you for spending the time to check....

NEWSPARKDEBBIE I'm amazed at how many protein bars on the market have rice of some sort in them. Most seem to be geared to those sensitive to soy.There are recipes for bars you can make at home without rice. The original Lara bars have none, but the types with protein do. I'll keep looking.

I cooked 5 lbs. of chicken breasts so I can slice them up and freeze some to have ready to use. Ate chicken for lunch and dinner.

Beth, sorry about the knee pain. Do you ever put Epsom salts in the bath? Or put ice or heat on the knee? I swear by my gel ice pack.

Well, today I tossed out the rest of the Christmas cookies, but they were getting a bit hard, so it's no real loss.

I measured out some of our ready-to-good foods, like cereal, nuts...etc... So those things are ready to go and no need to measure first thing in the morning.

I'm about ready to do a little bit of light cardio, at least ten minutes, but nothing uber hard core so I don't stress my knees out.

Even though it's only 11:30am, I can tell you that I found this awesome burger recipe that I am going to make tonight: It has white beans, fresh spinach, and a little sweet potato in it, along with some fresh herbs and spices. Totally vegetarian and I have to admit that I love a good veggie burger. I'm excited to give this recipe a try!

Starbrite, I didn't mean to sound like I was judging you, because I'm not at all. My point was that food eaten while driving CAN'T be enjoyed as much as normal because of the focus being on the driving. I say that from my experience of eating while driving. Starbrite, I tossed the last of the cookie exchange cookies out the car window this week. I was having them for breakfast!

Today I'm having grilled chicken and sweet cherries (frozen ones). No going out for lunch for me.

I actually try to always keep Protein meal replacement bars in the car. Too many times I'm caught out on errands and have forgotten to eat before hand, bring a snack , or run way over the time I expected to be out. The higher protein keeps me more satisfied and out of fast food drive throughs. I also make better decisions at the grocery store.

I know it's mindless eating. Problem: they were not supposed to be even opened. Usually I plan on celery and carrots and a few nuts to keep me awake (good excuse, I know), but I have had some dental problems, and cannot eat crunchy foods. You're right: no food in the car is the answer.

Oh well. I am always impressed with my ability to stop a problem before it gets out of hand. It can be done, but I admit, it's not always what I do.

I iced Christmas cookies with my son (with the piping bags and 3 colors of icing) without eating any cookies and not more than a drop of icing. Other years I have eaten spoonfuls of icing.

Starbrite -- When I eat while driving, I find that it is kind of automatically mindless eating because my focus is on the driving, if that makes sense. So I know if I start eating anything I want to eat only a little of, forget it , it will all be gone! I try not to eat in the car unless I am totally strapped for time and have to eat to nourish myself while I get from Point A to Point B. I have figured out that eating to enjoy the food in the car is wasted.

emoticon So brava for having to strength of will to knock out those cookies in Round One of a scheduled Three Round bout!!

Got to my 99-year old aunt's funeral today, even though it was 300 miles away in cold, desolate weather.

AND, in the middle of this ended up opening a package of cookies intended for company coming to my home tomorrow and began nibbling on them -- just a little at a time for 400 miles. (Yes, I was doing it both ways). However, I stopped at a gas station, and tossed the remainder of the cookes -- about 75 percent of them -- in the garbage can. The irony? They were expensive cookies and the ones that I most dislike (so I wound not want to eat them). And so, even though they were expensive and I was nibbling on cookies I don't even like (probably because of the desolate and challenging weather), I did manage to pitch them. Yes, I threw them away, and that, friends, is a major accomplishment for me.

Nice job making your Cardio such a joy.

Your pretzels sound like a wonderful gift. I'm doing rice crispy treats drizzled with semi sweet chocolate chips and sprinkled with peppermint candy bits. They're actually lighter in carbs than many traditional cookies. My husband was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 this fall and we're making many changed in the way we eat.

So far today I have made a batch of chocolate peanut butter pretzel rods for the holidays & have another batch to go. It makes my day now to do things like this as I never knew how to cook or bake until I taught myself how.

I would like to set up a topic where everyone can brag about something they did great today. Workout, good eating, good dead...and when they feel bad they can come on this topic, read and see that its not so bad as it seems.
