Dear MIAMIRN,

Your "plight" sounds closer to mine than most...I will go to your page and leave you a message. You are right though, the ~INDYGIRL Team is more than just about losing a certain amount of weight, it is about the total package of losing weight and learning to live your life well and not think of it as being on a diet forever.

Talk to you soon.

Hi all!

I am very happy to have been introduced to this team! This place looks like I will fit in quite well! I was introduced to Indygirl's blog from Burningtyme101. Thank you very much Burningtyme!! I had seen Indygirls blogs before, but never gave a thought of reading them. I thought since she had been very obese and I never was I had nothing in common with her. Little did I know how wrong I was! I am very impressed with this team! Thank you so much Indygirl for starting this team! You have done an amazing job creating this forum!

Now I bit about me. I am a 65 year old woman who, most of her life, was a skinny mini until about 12 years ago when my back went bad and I became sedentary. I had no idea what was in store for me, in terms of my weight. When I tried to lose I couldn't and I didn't know why. I discovered about three years ago I have Rheumatoid Arthritis (auto-immune), Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism (auto-immune) and Osteoarthritis. It seems to be a bad combination making losing weight difficult. Between severe pain and fatigue I suffer from, being active is a daily struggle. But struggle I do. I'm not the giving up kind and am very active. I swim laps daily, walk a mile 3 X weekly and lift my 20 lb weighted bar three times weekly. Swimming is my greatest love. I am training to compete in the Senior Olympics. It takes a lot of work and dedication and that I have plenty of. Eating too much is not a problem, but since my metabolism is so very slow, estimated 900 calorie expenditure/24 hours. Yes, it's that slow. I have a mountain of weight to lose. Some may not think 40 lbs is a lot, but for me it's tremendous. I have lost 14 lbs in two years. It's not much, but it's not going up any more. I'm very happy about that. I have been on SparkPeople for three years and love it! I couldn't ask for a better site! It has everything I could ever want to lose weight and be healthy. Right now I've made a serious commitment and joined the BLC team. I truly believe if I do exactly what the challenge wants me to do, I will lose. Easier said than done. I find I am learning more about what I don't do. Lol. The thing that gets in the way of myself is me not tracking meals. If I could get a handle on that I would be able to keep track of my calorie deficit. It's important to know, at least for me, because I can guage how much food I can eat and how much exercise I need to do the next day. I'm on week two of 12. Wish me luck! :)

Of course there's so much more to me that my challenge with weight. If you want to get to know me better I invite you to friend me and visit my page. All are welcome.

Thanks for reading my post

Hi Newbies! I also have hypothyroidism and a plethora of metabolic mess ups like diabetes, pcos and so on. So feel free to chat in the chat room or vent in the venting room. Guaranteed that almost no matter what you have, somebody here has it too. We have people with RA, MS, bad discs, degenerative disease, depression, bipolar, fibromyalgia... just to name a few.
Sometimes it feels good just to talk to someone who gets how hard it is to lose weight and get healthy with these conditions!

Hi everyone!
I can't seem to move forward with my weight loss journey. I've lost about 35 lbs but still have about 20 to go. I'm hoping a group can get me going in the right direction again.
Looking forward to joining in.

Dear Catherine,

Consider yourself "friended" by me. I have Hypothyroidism and a whole lot more that I won't go into right here. I was so weak that I could hardly even THINK about moving around to do regular things like shopping, etc. Of course I go to doctors that have me on specific medications that are necessary for my body to function -- if I don't continue to do that then I will be in worse physical and mental shape than ever.

Please know that I went from literally 200 steps a day to and from the kitchen and bathroom to over 5,000+ steps a day plus some beginning exercises in just over a month. It started with SparkFriends helping me mentally and (believe it or not) with my 60th birthday gift of a Fitbit exercise watch. The Fitbit actually helped me understand the lack of exercise and made it a game to reach certain goals daily (you set them). The meal menus that SP makes for us are a great GUIDELINE and I found it was easy to GROUP my regular foods.

Just know that there are MANY OF US CHEERLEADERS on the ~INDYGIRL Team that will be more than happy to help you like we have been helped.

Morning team,

My name is Carol and originally from Michigan, in 1991, I came west and am living in Southern CA. and can't imagine leaving. Have been with DH #2 for 24 years. I retired in July this year.

I have lost over 100 lbs. since 2003 and it still is a daily struggle to keep the weight off. I need to lose 14 lbs. Struggle with health issues which is then a challenge to exercise.

My hobbies are knitting and reading.

Delighted to be with the team

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

Don't look back, you're not going that way

Carol

Hi I'm Catherine and have been a member for many years losing and gaining over and over again. I have issues with Hypothyroidism, and just diagnosed with situational depression. At present I am very unmotivated to do anything I usually enjoy much less start a program to healthy living again...JUST BEING HONEST! However just to keep my mind off what I can not control, the situation that is causing me such sadness I have to do something (for myself)! For a long time now I have been feeling the effects of my weight gain and have known I really need to get a handle on this downward spiral before I retire. So I am asking for help...motivational help!

Be grateful for every little success.
