Sableness, do the foot circles help the top of foot pain? Does anything else? My husband has it.

I blame the pain in the top of my feet on age-related arthritis. I've gotten in the habit of stretching my feet in circles before I even get out of bed. It helps with those first movements. If it flares up, I focus on other exercise like the stationary bike and hand weights.

When my feet are very swollen and painful, often it is because they are collecting water. You might ask the doctor about a water pill. It really helps me when mine get that way.

Putting ice on the knees can help... 10 to 20 minutes a few times a day.
You can use a bag of frozen peas (don't eat them after they've been frozen and thawed!)
but the ones filled with gel, such as ColPac are colder and mold to you closer.

An alternative is soaking in hot/warm bath with Epsom Salts (about 1 cup.)

I'm having physical therapy for my left knee and bursitis in my right hip now.
My right foot also has bone-on-bone arthritis, and my right ankle is very painful.

I wish you well!

I started having trouble bearing wt. On my right foot. So, I started using my cane more.

Last week I went to the dr. they did exray s. Said it was what happens when we get older. They wouldn't say I was getting old! LOL! The insurance won't cover the salve to put on my knees. It would cost $205-- out-of-pocket! So, I got some over the counter salve. Could get shots in knee. Knees puffy, feet swollen. Maybe on my feet too long.

Oh, the joys of the Golden years!

Wow, thank you all so much you have been so supportive. I will definitely be calling my dr. on Monday. I feel like she really minimized my pain. I will see what she say's and I may get a second opinion. We will see. :) Take care.

I, too, have pain in the tops of my feet, especially the right one. It started after training for a 2-day charity walk. I thought I had just overdone it until it hadn't gone away months later. I was finally diagnosed with arthritis. Anti-inflammatories help - slightly. I also take pain killers, use orthotics, and watch how much I'm on my feet in any given day. Even with all that, I'm in pain 90% of the time.

Go get checked and have your doctor check for arthritis. Even though I'm in pain most of the time, it's nice to know the cause.

Karen

You may have to get a referral to a podiatrist. I'm surprised your doctor didn't suggest that. Good luck.

I have recently been dealing with that same problem. Mine is arthritis. I had been taken off all my anti-inflammatories because of out of line kidney function tests and had gotten to the point where I could barely walk. It didn't help that I'd also recently had gout in that same foot and been mistreated! Anyway, it took several trips to several doctors and I am now just beginning to walk normally again. I finally got the gout treated properly (which I think caused my arthritis to flare); then I saw my foot doctor who got me some properly fitting orthotics which help align the bones in my feet; then I went back to my primary care and got some anti-inflammatories that weren't so hard on my kidneys.

Keep bugging your doctor until you find out what's wrong!!!

Alicia I agree that you should visit the doctor again and perhaps get a second opinion. Also youddon't wanna over-do the walking, esp. when your in pain. Take it easy till this pain issue is sorted out.

I would go back to your doctor and have her look into it. If you don't get satisfaction from that visit a second opinion is always a good choice. I have type 2 diabetes and I experience diabetic neuropathy on the bottoms of my feet but you are not diabetic. I would pursue this until you get answers AND relief. Good luck.

Hello everyone. Has anyone experienced pain in the tops of your feet? I have had pain in the tops of my feet for about a month now. One of my feet is worse than the other. It takes me a long time to get my sneaker on because it hurts so badly. I saw my dr. a week ago and I was swollen up because of high blood pressure so she put me on medication and told me that she thought that was why my foot was hurting. Well, it's still here and I am crying it hurts so much. I have drank tons of water. Could this be my weight? I am doing really well at keeping my calories with in range and I am getting in 7000 plus steps a day but that is only because I am taking pain medication. Even though I am on pain meds it still hurts. Any ideas? I had my glucose taken a few months ago and don't have diabetes. Could it come on that quickly? I am even having difficulty sleeping because of the pain. emoticon
