I am among those who believe in moderation. I also don't feel particularly addicted to anything, have never had blood sugar issues, and look young for my age.

The more I read about it the more that I'm convinced sugar is bad for us. If you google ways sugar is bad for you, I was given over 252 ways. The list seems endless. I know its addicting! There's no stopping at one cookie for me! For one it ages your skin. Who wants to look older?

When I was 46 and gave birth to my "surprise" son at 47 I had gestational diabetes taking insulin. I also could not take my blood pressure med I needed, I took a less risky BP med that was not as helpful. So I had to really really restrict carbs/sugar AND salt. At the end I realized I missed salt more than sugar! emoticon

That was a gift because it helped me eat less sweets, and now that I am low carb due to type 2 diabetes at 56. I get to eat more salt! :o)

As I grew up I was never very interested in sugar based foods or candies. All of a sudden when I became diabetic I was like a starving animal where sugar was concerned.
I know that chemistry wise some of the cravings ARE medically based but most of mine I am convinced is psychological emoticon

Yes, because I want more and more and more, it doesn't matter. If I start I can't stop. But today I tried to stop. We received a gift box of Harry and David Chocolates and other goodies. OMG! Throw that crap away! Nope, we ate it.But I did stop before it was gone and I measured out most of the popcorn emoticon It's Christmas time, but I still can't have a lot of sugar. I must remember that!

When I joined spark back in 2008 I gave up sugar because eating it just made me crave it more and want to eat more so I just gave it up. It wasn't easy but after a couple of weeks I didn't have the cravings anymore and the healthier foods I ate the more satisfied I became.

I seem to crave sugar. Giving it up is very hard for me. So what I have done is drastically cut down to once a week and then only a small serving of whatever, cookie, candy, etc.

Thanks for the comments!

emoticon for sharing. I also believe in moderation. I do believe that you can become addictied to sweets. I don't know if it a physical addiction or an emotional addiction. I do know when I gave up Mt. Dew. I would get headaches for a few days.

I eat minute amounts of maple syrup, honey and sweet and low. I have given up sugar because I do believe I am addicted to it.

I also believe in moderation just because I do like sweet things. But I am not fooled into thinking sugar is good for me. The whole purpose of ingesting food is to supply nutrients we need for life and sugar contains none except for some basic energy needs. There are no vitamins, minerals, protein, or needed fats. It is pure carbohydrates. We do need carbohydrates as it is pure energy and our brains can only use carbs for fuel so carbs are necessary but it is better if our carbs have other useful nutrients along with them.

"The world is one country and mankind its citizens" one of the many truths spoken by Baha'u'llah and "Love is the light that guideth in darkness, the living link that uniteth God with man, that assureth the progress of every illumined soul."

I believe in moderation. This time of year we are bombarded with sweet treats everywhere we go, seemingly.
