It is almost afternoon here in NC!! I did not go to Water Aerobics this morning due to the fact that they don't have a class on Fridays... To be honest after 5 days in a row, my body felt really really tired, I think I needed to let it rest today. However, I did NOT just sit on my butt!! I actually put my MP3 on and cleaned and cleaned. Who says that you do not get an aerobic workout cleaning. My heart rate has been up for nearly an hour, and I have sweated harder than I have in a long while, and I am pooped!!! So from now on Friday is going to be my Mix It Up day, and I am going to clean clean clean!! Everyone have a Blessed Day!!! Shannon

The mini challenge will change Sunday from Tracking food to getting all 8 glasses of water in.
If you can track AND drink water this week- you will be a TOTAL ROCKSTAR!

Anyone that does makes the challenge and adds to it week by week for this whole month, missing only 4 days, wind a GOLD STAR for ROCKSTAR. Sparkmail me at the end of the month if you:
Did week 1, added week 2, did week 2, added week 3, did week 3...

Then we start over in June with new challenges. They will always be mini habit challenges designed to step up YOUR lifestyle. Go at your own pace, modify, wean yourself, build up, but do whatever it takes to TRY. The only way you can't win is if you don't play in the first place.

~Indygirl

Hi everybody, I have had an MS flair up this week and not felt well at all, but I have tracked all of my food and water and exercises everyday. This hasn't been easy this week, but I have stayed on track and managed to keep focused.

Hi Indy and Everyone! I have been sick with a stomach bug this week. I did get out yesterday and walk around a grocery superstore for an hour. Walked the whole store, so that's good exercise.
Indy, I do track my food in a food journal. Then, I track my exercise on my daily calendar. I give myself a smiley face for each day I exercise. Then, I show my Dietian my food and exercise journals about once a month.
Take care everyone! :) Bren emoticon

Hello team! I have been tracking and finally had a good loss this week. I KNOW they are related. When I track I will emoticon

One of our sons was borderline ADD and we taught him to PTA when he was little "Pause and Think before you Act"...I suppose I should have been paying more attention to that myself!

Hi, I'm new to the group. I've been doing this since March 29th 2011 and have been doing well. I've lost 16 lbs so far! Now the newness is wearing off and it's getting a bit more challenging so I have to keep myself motivated.

Have to say no weight gain and no weight loss. This is an uneventful week. I am not upset...it's all part of the weight loss journey. I am grateful I did not gain...next week I hope to experience a minus.

Happy Hump-Day!!!

THANKS for the warm welcome ladies!!!

I am happy to say that I did a little workout last night with my boys (ages 10 & 11). They truly pushed me & encouraged me. I love those 2 boys sooooo much, they made some comments to me that made really think about me.. I am going to share them, this is something I need to write about & be able to look back on down the road...

I must admit I was really struggling & really had no energy. We did some free-style dancing, abs, planks, & push-ups. My son made a comment to me that just really hit the core. I said "I just can't do it, I have no energy to exercise, I don't want to" and he replied "If you DON'T want to EXERCISE than you DON'T want to LIVE a long life." This just made me feel ike you know what he is soooo right!! My son's said "Mom you're too young to not be able to exercise, you are always pushing us to exercise and be healthy."

It made me realize that they are listening but also watching me. My oldest son said "Mom I feel exactly how you feel right now every morning I work out, I dont' want to but I know I got to." This was from my 11 year old Isaiah. I was like he is soooo right, he gets up at 7 a.m. to workout before school plus run at track practice every afternoon. It made me see that my son's are really watching me & they truly want me to get healthy. They asked me "Mom how many pounds do you want to lose?" So I had to seriously think about it, I was honest and said "70 pounds." I have truly let myself go over the past year, to go from a size 12 to a size 20 in less than a year is really bad.

So now that I know I've got a long way to go, what am I going to do??? I am going to finally prove to myself that I can do this again!! I am going to make my boys proud of their mom b/c I challenge & push them to be healthy. I don't want to be a hypocrite, the fat mom who stays on her kids. I guess it could be the other way around, the healthy mom with overweight kids.

I realized the talk I had with my oldest son Isaiah about his body image really paid off b/c he came home & was proud to tell me that he went to track practice & took his shirt off. He was not ashamed & realized that he is in good shape. He may not have a 6-pack but he is working towards that 6-pack. I must say I have 2 of the most AMAZING SON'S!!!

Last night they made me a PROUD MOM!!

How is everyone doing with this week's goal of tracking their food? I've been doing pretty well. I admit I forget something here and there, but I get most of my foods tracked.

Tracking REALLY helps me. When I personally don't track, I don't lose weight. That isn't to say you wouldn't. Weight loss is a very individual thing. I'm just hoping by trying each of the things I do for a week, you can see if they work for you personally.

I hope you all have a great day!

Keep tracking!

~Indy

I think everyone here has some very good goals. I too learned to eat the foods like Turkey Chili made with red and black beans and it is so delicious that we have it at least once a week. Another one of my favorites is Slow Cooker Chicken Salsa and a serving of that goes over brown rice. It is wonderful. I like to stick to the whole grains as they fill me up and then I am not tempted with foods that I cannot control. I am very pleased to be on this team and hopefully I will learn new things from all of you.

Well, I weigh more now than when I joined SparkPeople back in 2009. No, I don't blame SP. I have only myself to blame. I didn't follow a plan, I got busy, I didn't have time, I was too tired, I was too stressed out, I didn't get up early enough, well, you know the picture. I had about every excuse you can imagine. SP did not fail me! I failed SP! So now I'm going to start over and I'm determined to do a better job.

Hey ladies,

I am trying to find my mojo!!! I think it will help now that Eric (my man) is feeling better & he wants to go to the gym tonight, so I think this will give me the push I need to go also. I need to really whip it into gear over here. I am not going to give up but I know I am seriously losing my zest for wanting to get healthy & lose this weight.

So here's some background info on me. I started my weight loss journey back in 2005 & lost 60 pounds & was around 160 pounds. Then almost 5 years ago, I met a great guy & the weight has been creeping back up. Now I am at my highest in my life (even after 2 pregnancies). I am now back in my clothing size I wore 6 years ago & told myself I would never be back here again but I am back in a size 20!! It's sad for me to see that size again.

Next month I am going to meet my guy's family for the first time & I am not pleased that I will not be smaller b/c 1st impressions are everything but I can't change it now. So I am trying to re-light my SPARK!!

Have a Terrific Tuesday everyone!!

Hi Everyone! I am a long time fan of IndyGirl. I saw that my friend BarbaraRose was joining Indy's team, so I decided to join too. I need more inspiration and motivation. I have stuggled with my weight for all my life and gone up and down. I reached an all time high of 395 when I weighed in with my Dietian about 4 years ago. Luckily, that was the beginning of losing weight and I lost 100 pounds with her and the help of Sparks. I also like Dr. Phil's Ultimate Weight Solution. Now, I have stayed at approximately the same weight for one year. I am hoping to go down for my next Dietian appointment. My stuggle is that I eat well during the day and evening and I exercise then I wake up and eat during the night when I am stressed. So, that is something that I am continually working on.
It is nice to meet you all! I hope we can all meet our health and weight loss goals together. This is a picture of me at my goal weight.
Take care everyone! :) Bren emoticon

Hello friends! My goal right now is to eat less and move more. The last 6 months I have been in pain all over for no good reason and just pushed through it. A week ago I had to go to the Dr. because so many odd places are super sensitive to touch on my body. Still waiting on results from all the lab work. emoticon I will not let this derail me or any of my goals!

Y'all got some great goals. And goals to reach for. You're all worth it so let's go get 'em!

I have a few goals myself. Actually, I have a short term goal and that's to lose as much as I can healthily in the next 9 weeks. I'm looking at around 25-30 pounds. I'm shooting to be in the gym 3-5 days a week, and the days I'm not in the gym, I'll work cardio at home.
I start a class on July 9th of this year at our local community college to become something I've dreamed about for many years. I'm going to become a Personal Trainer. I'm 42 years old, out of shape, and addicted to food in general. That's all about to change. My goal is to completely change my lifestyle, get fit and healthy so I can lead by example that it CAN be done.
Then, my long term goal is to hopefully write a book about the journey, and help others achieve their health and fitness dreams. In reality, dreams DO come true. You just have to make them happen.

who strengthens me". Philippians 4:13.

One of my long term goals is to be able to sit in my tub and take a bath. I have not done that in years (yup; years). I shower, because I don't think that I would be able to get out of the tub if I sat in it. After years of gaining weight and talking about losing, I have finally decided to stop playing around and make an effort to lose. I joined SparkPeople on New Years Day this year, and I have lost weight. However, the past few days have been difficult and I've "fallen off the wagon," but I believe that the support that is available on the teams and in the SparkPeople community will help me to do what I need to do to lose and feel better about myself. That's why I joined the Indygirl challenge. emoticon

20 pounds in one month sounds like too much too fast. I really think you should set a goal that is smaller so that you can reallistically achieve it. Slow and steady really does get you farther and faster. It also prevents the yo-yo cycle. I am not trying to be negative here. I am cheering you on! emoticon

We are going to make headway! 1 goal at a time. We are going to encourage each other and not discourage, We can all reach our goals.

Right now, my goal of losing 210 pounds is 65 pounds away. WOW that seems close. Then I'll decide on my new goal. I used to thin I couldn't make it to 50 pounds, let alone 100 or more. Then 200 seemed daunting. Now I feel like I can fly!

I want to help all of you have that feeling too. It isn't easy, but it isn't hard either. I used to diet. Now the big difference is that I track and eat healthier, trying to stay within tracker ranges. I eat things that keep me full. I eat more often (mini meals). I eat off of smaller plates and split restaurant meals or order small when I can.

Emotional eating is still hard for me. I cope alot by avoiding people that trigger it and by having a few coping mechanisms. I drink A LOT of water, tea, crystal light.... I take long bubble baths with candles, I get cheap manicures at beauty schools, I blog A LOT, I log on to Spark, I try to help others, I cheer people on... These things all take me "away" from the mood. Online games help too.

I have several blogs coming out on the Daily Spark that you all should find encouraging. You can read them every Friday. Sometime soon, they are submitting my blog on binge eating. I think that should help many people. It touches on emotional eating too.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now.
200 plus lbs lost without surgery, crazy diets, or extreme exercise- so have hope!

How cool would it be to have each of us make headway in the next month - heck, 6 MONTHS! - rather than going backwards! That would make this team one super success and it looks like there's more than enough support here to do it.
How 'bout that for a team goal??

Hey Cynthia I like the sound of that. Lets do it!!

Here I am joining another new team looking for inspiration as well. I started off with a bang 2 years ago but I have been at a standstill. My life has changed a lot from losing 60 pounds. I have gone from a size 28 to a size 18 and I feel much more comfortable in my body that said I still have a long way to go. I want to divorce myself from the fat girl that lives in my head always chanting you'll never do it! There is so much more I aspire to experience and try. I want to motivate people and share the successful journey who better to do that with then Indygirl!

I lost 100 pounds my first year on SP (2009) In 2010 I lost about 20...maybe not quite that...and so far have put it back on. I'm now about 80 pounds down instead of 100 and tired of going backwards. This challenge came to me at just the right time. I loved Beth's statement about not waiting to find myself but inventing myself instead. I'm ready to do that!

emoticon It's raining (AGAIN!) here in NE Ohio. April broke long-standing rain records - I only hope May doesn't do the same. I do plan on walking outside this afternoon if it's just rain I'm dealing with, but there's a chance of a thunderstorm. I draw the line at walking with a metal umbrella in my hand when lightning's in the sky!
I am going for my yearly mammogram early this afternoon. My mom and cousin and I always schedule them together and then go out to lunch. Mom is a 22 year breast cancer survivor. Vicki, my cousin, is 11 months younger than I am (60 to my 61) and has been having some health issues. She's having some skin cancer removed tomorrow.
Other than those things (walking and mammogram) I have nothing but house cleaning scheduled for today.
emoticon I'm really committed to making May a great month. I've started giving myself a "gold star goodie" when I stay on track. So far, there are 3 on my page. Those 3 days are the longest consecutive days I've eaten within my ranges and exercised in a long time!
I’m happy to be a member of this team and know that we will be there for one another, and with one another, every step of our journey.
Stay positive!
Sheila

CYNTHIA47 ~ Don’t let these setbacks rule your progress. I know that’s easier said than done, but you need to “keep the faith” in yourself and your ablilities to change your life. I don’t have any medical reasons for the 30 pounds I’ve regained. My only excuses are laziness and more laziness! Just keep taking those “little steps” - they add up to big changes. Stay focused on your goals, determined to reach them, and positive that you will!

I'm coming into this team very saddened and discouraged....Last year I'd lost close to 60 pounds...Two hip replacements later (in Feb and March of this year), I've gained back 20 of those pounds. I've also lost my exercise habit and impetus...when I was very gung ho about it before. I feel like I'm back to square one. And now, with two new hips of which I must be very careful....I'm sort of afraid to exercise and to see how out of shape I am makes me want to throw in the towel.

But I know I won't --because I felt GREAT last summer and fall and was really happy about my body and the changes I was seeing there. So now I'm back to the point of needing to lose at least 40 pounds and feeling overwhelmed by that.

I think this team is just what I need to get psyched up again and to find the courage and encouragement to go on with this journey.
Thanks INDY for starting it....

My biggest peice of advice and what I have done so far...is to simply start small, very small if you need to and build on it. It becomes built into your lifestyle and it so much easier to keep going. I started very small with eating changes and working out and continue to do so. The other great thing about this is if you fall back a step it's not so hard to get back on track. Also, you need to enjoy what you eat and how you are living. By going small you will learn what you like and replacing some of your junkier food selections with healthier alternatives...it can be fun...looking for and trying new products and recipies. My new challenge to myself is to start to plan my meals more. I have been very afraid to do this in the past, in part, due to being a compulsive eater. I was afraid that by laying everything out I'd feel to constricted and then bindge...now I feel ready for that step. That's part of what I mean by starting small...suddenly you are ready to do and try new things a few months before you couldn't imagine! We can do this!

I have lost 30 pounds. However, I am still stuck at 179 because I keep yo-yoing. What I chose to eat is not a healthy as I thought. I sure could use some help in this area.

I lost 65 lbs a few years ago but have struggled and yo-yoed until I put back 55 lbs. I stopped believing in myself so this challenge has come at a great time for me. I'm working on believing that I can do it. I will also be reaching for the stars Beth.

I, too have lost a bit of weight - but I have more to lose - however I do think that the more you lose the harder it becomes - maybe we get slack, maybe we get diverted by life, by being able to do things we couldn't do before, but its time to tighten up - and get back to it again!!
Since I already track all food and have done faithfully for the last 2 1/2 yrs or more - I am setting a personal mini goal - to exercise at least 20 min every day!!

Everyone smiles in the same language.

You are so right Indy. I have been successful with SP and I love it. The things I do are the right mix for me. I tried WW for a few months "to help motivate my husband." I did it for the wrong reasons instead of doing it for me. I gained back 5 pounds in the process. I couldn't believe that I just felt so discombobulated on WW (no offense to anyone that does well with it). I had a serious talk with myself and asked why I wasn't doing what I KNOW WORKS for ME. I never totally left SP but I jumped back into the nutrition log with both feet. I finally got my act back together and feel happy again. You guys are stuck with me. I am so happy I have lost 4 pounds of the aforementioned 5. Yahoo!

Hi All! Welcome!

I wanted to create a team where I could inspire myself and others to reach for the stars. I know it can be done.

I was never the girl who lost 100, let alone 145 pounds. I was the friend of or the girl who heard about.... SparkPeople had really changed me.

My best advice is that not EVERYTHING will work for EVERYONE. Think about your favorite celebrity, do you think you could follow their workout and diet plan for LIFE?
If you can't do it for life, it won't keep the weight off, so it has to be doable for YOU.

Take the advice that works for you and leave the rest. There are no judgments here. We are all on journies- adventures, trying new foods, activities, ideas, feelings.

Stop trying to find yourself and invent yourself.

It's never too late to be who you've always wanted to be.

~Indy
