QOTD: What do you do to relax?

I went to massage therapy today. It started out relaxing until we focused on problem areas. I'm so sore. I was told no exercise today. So, I'm focusing on healing my body.

I listen to a pandora station on my phone while I work out. Generally it's a sort of dance/techno/pop station because they have fast beats that keep me moving.

Qotd: Do you have a specific song, band or playlist you listen to while working out?

In my SP blog I've made blogs about beats per minute songs. I have made a huge list from BPM song from 130 to 160 bpm. In there is the cure, depeche mode, joy division, the smiths, queens of the stone and a lot more. I like to listen to my music when working out. I'm a musical snob, if you seen High Fidelity then you'll get the picture of my musical taste. I love my Ipod and make workout lists so that I can walk to them and garden and clean.

I can't stand the music to Dance Central or Zumba Rush but i love those games. So I tolerate the music.

I don't listen to music while working out. I use workout DVD's, so I have to listen to the instructor. So far, I haven't run across any that are so irritating, I have to turn them off. :P

Hopefully, when I reach my next weight goal, I'll also have enough money set aside to get my running shoes. At that point, the weather should be stabilizing enough for me to get outdoors more and go for walks and maybe jogs. We'll see what I choose to listen to then. :)

QOTD: What is your motivation to become healthier? List at least 5 reasons.

1. The positive feedback of the hard working I'm putting in (and results).

2. My son. He has only known me as a fat person. It's time he also gets to know the skinny me.

3. Empowerment! the more I advance in my college degrees and professionalism the more I want to invest in my body as well. The mind and body are connected. When I exercise and am healthier I tend to do better in school.

4. A guy that I fancy. It sure would be a nice surprise for him to see me with less weight on.

5. Dancing. I want to do those fun dance steps that require me to be a little more fit. I have to keep practicing so that I'm fit and healthy so I can do those incredible steps. I'm on my way!

Happy St. Patrick's Day fellow Targaryens! I hope everyone is having a nice day. Today I plugged in two hours of exercise and will be spending much of the day on the computer doing my finals. I have only two more day so classes this quarter and I'm so thrilled about it. I can't wait for the break, a three week break. Much needed.

QOTD - What is your Achilles heel food (that one food that you just cannot eat in moderation)? How do you cope with it?

Brownies. I don't keep them in the house because I will lose that temptation. Every now and then I will buy a Gluten Free Brownie for my son but it's only one and I give it to him. I've been successful with it because I will not touch it. I did last night. I told him that I wanted one little bite, because they are huge brownies. I took a small little bite and I swear that is the best brownie in the world.

The way that I handle this is by not having them in my house. If there is one for my son then I know it's for him and will not take it. I asked him if he liked the GF cookie or brownie better. He told me the cookie, so from now on if I buy him a treat like that it's going to be the cookie since that brownie is way too tempting.

When I crave something I make sure to get it but in moderation or if not I end up on a binge. So if I want a some chocolate I will not have it in the house but I will eat other things, if that craving is still there I will go to the store and buy just one chocolate bar. I know others say they buy more and freeze them for later but to me that is too much temptation. If I know there is lots of frozen candy in the freezer I will ate them, even to the point of substituting them with the calories I should be eat for my daily calorie range. This isn't good.

If I crave a hamburger, then I will order a hamburger at a local food joint that serves higher quality fast food and will only order the hamburger and eat a small salad with it and drink water. If my son is having pizza with friends I will either get myself something else or if I'm craving that pizza, I will have only once slice that is the serving size for the pizza. Sometimes it's a very sad size, like 1/10 or 1/12 of the pizza. It's all about moderation and I'm not perfect with it but I'm getting so close to it that I'm feeling like I can actually live like this now.

Don't be down on yourself. If you haven't had these changes before this is going to be a very difficult challenge. For me I've been doing this for three months and I've found a system that works. For me I like to have an oatmeal recipe from spark people called Stephanie's Oatmeal Mix, it's has Flax seed, walnuts, and dried cherries. The cherries count as a fruit. The oatmeal, flax seed, and walnuts have omega3s. I also eat a small apple at breakfast. For snack I will have a smoothie that has a banana (large so it's two servings), strawberries or a three berry blend and yogurt. That is at least three more servings of fruit. The yogurt has omega3s in it. Then with the smoothie I will have hummus and carrots. For lunch a small salad and sandwich or small salad with something else. Then for pm snack I will have another veggie, I like bell peppers or cucumbers, with some vinaigrette. For dinner it depends what I have planned but it has veggies, and then before 8pm I will have another snack that is either a fruit or veggie. This is just my system that works for me. It's fairly easy for me to pack snacks like this and drink lots of decaf tea and water. I've totally cut out soda and a lot of other goodies. I did today take a small bite of my son's gluten free brownie. So I counted that against me in the points.

It takes time for a system but I know you guys can do it. Don't get down on yourself, this is a life long battle! Make it fun and find new things to enjoy.

OMG, teammates... I thought I was eating healthier than I have been for a long long time... but when I plug my numbers into that dang tracker, I totally suck. I'm sorry I am bring the team totals down... I think my numbers should be automatically doubled, since I am eating more fruits and veggies in one week than I probably have in the last year total.... this is so hard for me... and so depressing to see how well everyone else is doing... I know we are supposed to be upbeat and supportive... but I really don't see how people are getting 45's and 50's.... do they live in this world????? UUUGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!

I even went to bed early last night and still I'm very tired today. Any suggestions on being more alert in the morning? Swing Dance Class was a lot of fun. I have to say that it's been such a wonderful choice to start it. I suggest taking dance classes, a lot of fun and a great way to be social. I guess in the first week of April we are going to have a community dance.

Newlife, Awesome job wit the treadmill. I always had a major issue with exercise so that is why I try to make it fun. I use the Xbox 360 kinect a lot so that way I'm playing games. I like to earn achievements and be on the leaderboards. That has been the number one change this time around in my health plan, making exercise fun. I love Dance Central 1 & 2, Fruit Ninja, Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 (dancing section) and Zumba Rush. I also I take swing dance class lessons and that has been great cardio and a lot of fun.

Hi!!! I'm excited to participate in this challenge too... although I seem to be busier this week... and it is really putting the kabosh on my ability to get on the computer and see how my teammates are doing!!!

QOTD: What are you doing to make yourself better than you were yesterday?
-I actually got on the treadmill for 30 minutes tonight instead of just thinking about it!!! Go me!!! I know that most of you are kicking arse in that department... but it is just something that I do not enjoy... will do a million other things just to get out of exercising... but tonight I did it... and it didn't kill me!!!

Keep up the good work Charming!!! Your mindset is half the battle!!!! :)

Hello Targaryen Family! I hope today is going great. I'm really excited to start this and can't wait to start. I love challenges and theme based challenges are the best. We can totally do this.

QOTD (Question of the Day): What are you doing today to make yourself better than you were yesterday?
- Better food choices. Yesterday I ate a Turkey, Avocado, and Bacon wrap and a small slice of light veggie pizza, both are normally not what I eat. I felt it yesterday and my stomach hurt badly. I will not be doing that again. I was within range but still they weren't that healthy of choices.

- Today is a much better day and I feel it. I'm active, eating better, and excited. My choices in food are way better than yesterday. I'm in a good frame of mind which makes all the difference. I even bought an uplifting book to read today. Things are good!
