Well, hello everybody. I popped into Writers today and was shocked to see that I haven't posted anything here for 62 days. It doesn't seem THAT long ago that I was here, resetting the September goals. My bad. My very, very, very bad. Clearly, I'm not taking enough time to participate. I have been particularly absent these last couple of months because I am a paranormal / Halloween blogger. That's not the whole truth of the reason for me being too quiet though.

I'm also not sure that my vision for a writers' group on SP is compatible with what the majority of the members want. When I accepted the invitation to co-lead, I was new to SP and very het-up about it all. I thought I could do more than I really can. Then the other co-leaders quit, so I tried to muddle through by relying heavily on my organizational skills. It hasn't really worked.

The situation is further complicated by the age of the team, I think. Most of the 400+ members are completely inactive and most of the folks who do pop in are not interested in the framework and challenges that I thought would be valuable for us as writers.

I've seen some introductions come in that seem to be more on my wave-length, but I've been reluctant to pester folks and I've had trouble figuring out how to meet the needs of everyone.

In short, I am overwhelmed by the diversity of the group members. I think this is a great team, with a long history, and I hope that the new leader or leaders make a big success out of it.

My plan is to take copies of the work I've done here and move it to a new, smaller team. This evening (11/3) I'll copy and move the structure I put into place. Starting tomorrow, the new leader(s) can feel free to use whatever they like and discard the rest. I'll send out a team mailing to let folks who might be interested know where I'm going.

I'm not at all interested in stealing away members or even competing on anything like this level of membership. I'm not at all upset. I hope the members of this team don't feel that I'm "taking my ball and going home." I just don't feel very comfortable in a leadership role here and don't feel like my skills and interests contribute to the team.

SP shouldn't be about feeling guilty or stressed. It should be about finding a safe and supportive place where you want to hang out. I sincerely apologize for not taking the time sooner to figure out why I was struggling so hard with being a good leader to this group. I wish everyone the best of luck :)

EDIT: I've tried to tidy things up a bit around here so that it will be easier for MSBOOTCAMP to settle in. I've dramatically simplified the "welcome to team" letter that goes out when a member joins and changed it so that folks know the team is in transition. I've. reset a couple of team goals, and cleared away others. I've simplified the text of some "about" posts, and added the following notice where appropriate:

NOTE: AS OF NOV. 4th, 2014, THE TEAM IS UNDER NEW LEADERSHIP. THE "ABOUT" POSTS IN EACH FORUM MAY OR MAY NOT BE AN ACCURATE DESCRIPTION OF HOW THINGS WILL WORK IN THE FUTURE AT WRITERS.

I think that's about it for me. If MSBOOTCAMP requests input and feedback, please be welcoming and supportive; she's taking on a big job.

PS: I won't hit the resign button for a few days, in case MSBOOTCAMP wants me to change something before I can't.
