RRUDEPARANORMAL - I'll check with our systems analyst at work. I don't think, though that the description you provided is what he did. If I recall, we started in a direction and he tracked us for a certain length of time, then showed us where we'd be if the walk hadn't been virtual.

Interesting that there isn't an app like the one you describe. I need to go searching.

MadeIt3: My husband is a programmer, and I'm hinting HARD! I think he should figure out how to make an app and then sell it a make thousands :D (I mean, people do that, right?)

Popeye: I'm glad you wandered over to the blog and thought well of it. I don't put much stock in age. In some ways I'm far older than my years (and always have been) in some ways I'm much younger (and I HOPE I always will be.) Getting started here at SparkPeople is all about making sure my body can keep up with my mind.

IgniteMe: Thanks, but it's not quite right as far as I can tell.

I posted this request for info in a couple of different groups here and I had to clarify at one place. I thought I'd bring that here, just in case anyone is confused by what I mean. Maybe someday someone will stumble on to this thread and know exactly the right product / app.

DESCRIPTION OF DESIRED APP / PROGRAM:
I want a program that will let me enter a start point AND and end point, then it would figure out a route and the distance between the two. Then I could walk, like, 2 miles on the treadmill, then tell the program I'm 2 miles closer to the NC destination point. It would then show me a map with a pin on it After a year of daily 2 mile walks, my pin on the map would be somewhere in OH or IN.

The more I think about it, the more I'm amazed that I can't find such a thing. It seems like it would be such a fun motivator.

We did a virtual walk at work and one of our programmers figured out a way to get us from Kansas to California - he created a wonderful map, which sounds like more than you're looking for. But I think he took it on as a programming challenge. I may see him Monday and will ask.

I just looked at your Spark Page and then jumped to your blog.

That is one very well organized blog. And to think I suggested you Google something?

The video of the Panatonix was good, but when I scrolled further down and heard the version with David and Bing, well ..... I didn't cry or get tears in my eyes - instead it gave me chills.

I believe I was in the Federal Republic of Germany when that version was on television, maybe even in Vietnam. I'm about 20 years your senior in years, but I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up.

Some call me foolish, others think I'm childish - doing new things at my age. What those people don't see is my cleverness. What they don't know is that as long as I'm having fun, people will continue to guess my age as at least 10 years younger than the calendar says.I'll continue to have fun here until my Father whistle's me Home.

Then, I'll have to put on my Really Big Boy pants and learn how to be bright and a good example on a whole new plane (NOT something from Boeing or any of their competitor's).

I'm happy you posted here to let us know about you, and I hope we hear from you as often as you can find the time.

Google: Free walking calculator map.

Some programs are free but have ads. Some will give you the option of using the program ad free for a donation (I found one that opts you out for a buck[$1]).

I Google everything I'm looking for and I always add the tag "Free".

Any computer program I research and my Norton will tell me if there have been any reported negative actions with the program. When I download it, I put it into my "Checking" file and have a couple of different programs scan it for virus', Trojans and the like..

The higher it is on the Google list and the older the program, the more likely you are to get something that works well.

Each time I post my walking in the fitness tracker, it gives me a map, I enter the address to and from and vola! It figures it out for me.
I'm not sure if this is what YOU ARE REFERRING TO, it works for me

I hope it's ok to start a new thread here; I don't know where else to post my question.

Does anyone know of an app or computer program that allows you take a virtual walk from one location to another? Imagine a paper map and pins to track the walk. I don't want any of the fancy features I'm finding when I search for what I want. (I don't want a step counter, or a GPS anything. I don't want to hike the Appalachian Trail or tour Washington DC. I don't need scenery pictures to look at.)

I'd like to pretend I'm starting in St. Paul MN and I'm walking to Raleigh, NC. I just want a program where I can enter my starting point and my ending point. Then the app / program would calculate the distance in miles, allow me to add the miles I walk on the treadmill to a cumulative total, and show me on the "map" how far I've come and how far I still need to go.

Does such a thing exist?
