Dottee - glad it's warmer where you are. It's supposed to get into the 40's and then the 50's this weekend, so we're having a little - and very wet - January thaw.

Marcy - ouch!! Glad you got your steps in, although maybe some rest is in order??

VEROISME - Welcome to our chat!! We're glad to have you here! Big projects seem to be the lifeblood of a writer! We'll be curious about how you proceed. Also many folks have that snacking-while-I-write habit. Maybe you'll get advice about how to stop snacking!

ADMIN - Now that I know the topic, the title is wonderful! I'll be looking for it.

Today is one of those a little of this, a little of that days for me. We have lots of errands to run. We have to figure out what to do with the cat now living under our deck. And my son and his wife are coming for their "Christmas" tomorrow. Thought it was all over. Darn! But no big meal for them - we're having bison burgers and sweet potato "fries." Yum. And I need to write another post for my WordPress Blog!

Have a great Saturday all.

Stacy, KS

Hello Team,
VERO_DEN I am glad you are feeling better and over the flu. {{{HUGS}}}

Stacy it was 35 deg. by the time I got out today. It was a regular heat wave. I was out for 3 hours doing errands. I read a lot on my iPad about plotting and am now brainstorming to come up with something good. Having the cold all week just wore me out. Only three days left for you. Yay!

FITADMIN83 Aftermath sounds very interesting. I write historical fiction too.

VEROISME Welcome to the team. Glad you joined us.

Marcy I phone walk all the time. It is such a good way to get that walking time in without even knowing it. I gotta hand it to you. You sure did a lot of exercise for having that minor surgery yesterday. I hope the soreness goes away soon.

I think I am finally getting over my "cold" that was bothering me all week. The coughing has quieted down and I'm just a little tired.

emoticon Good Night everybody!

The Doc decided to re3move the lymph nodes that have been bothering me for more than 6 months this time. This is the second time that I have had to have them removed. Jan 2013 and 2014. I want to know why they keep getting and staying enlarged, but apparently that is a mystery to everyone. The doc removed them in his office yesterday, so I am on the sore side today. I just finished 30 minutes on the recumbent bike though and I "phone walked" while I talked to my mother so I have over 9000 steps in for today. Unfortunately, I used all my energy and now I need a nap.

Have a great day everyone. (We are at 33 right now - wow a heat wave)

Hi everyone!

I've been on sparkpeople a while but until today it never occured to me that I could stay accountable for my writing as well as my weight in the same place!

Yesterday I started a new project that intimidates me greatly and as such a project that I've avoided starting for months... I also have a short story that is starting to take shape in my mind so we will see where it goes...

I'm excited about this chitchat thread because I find it helps me stay more or less focus (or I guess I should stay it keeps my distraction int heme, and makes me more likely to return to work on my project!) I am also excited about this because writers tend to be very snacky when writing... so maybe this is a safer place for me... ;)

Aftermath is actually a Historical Fiction piece set in the time of the Salem Witch Trials. It is a fictional memoir written from the POV of a woman named Prudence Ashford who survived the trials and wrote down her experiences with some of the major players in the trials:) I will make an announcement when I release it I promise:)

Good morning all!

I'm in the middle of revising last year's renewal letters for an EAP. They have some satisfaction data they want to include, but they also don't want the letter long than a page, and they also don't want to leave out anything they had in the letter last year. Excuse me? Real estate? So I'm trying to fit more meaning into fewer words. Whew! And they waited until after the first of the year to do this. So glad I only have three days left!!

VERO - Hugs right back 'atcha. Glad you're here again and recovering from the flu! It's been a nasty one this year for many people!

Dottee - 10 is not very warm, so wrap up! How's your plotting?

FITADMIN - Did you tell us the genre? Aftermath sounds like a thriller or SciFi... Let us know and also be sure to announce when it's out for publication. How exciting!!

Camy - WooHoo - good for you on that workout!

Have a great day!

Hello Team,,
And we come to the end of another day. We are down to 10 deg. tonight.

I didn't do much of anything other than watch the two kids, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It was not as warm as it was supposed to be during the day. Tomorrow I have to go to the pharmacy to fill some prescriptions but I will wrap my scarf around my face when I go out. It should be warmer out too. CABIN FEVER has invaded my mind and body.I have not been out of this house for a week now. At least I have been able to do my 6,000 steps each day this week except for one.

Marcy I had a feeling you were going to run out of ink after doing all that printing.

Hi and Good Night to FITADMIN83, Camy, and Stacy. emoticon

I got a 30 minute cardio workout in today and am SO happy. I also am going to be finishing (I hope) the edits to the novel I wrote in 2012 during NanoWrimo called Aftermath:) I cannot wait to make an official announcement that it is finished and out for purchase!

I got a good workout this morning, too! I was proud of myself because it's technically my rest day for my running, but I decided to use the recumbent bike.

I got a lot of writing done last night AND I remembered to set the timer on my computer to remind me to stretch every hour!

When I finished printing yesterday I had 2 flashing lights telling me to replace the ink soon. Luckily they were yellow and blue and not black. I need to order ink, but it's one of those things I keep putting off.

I'm off to the doc later today, so not much work will get done today. I did get in a wonderful workout this morning though.

Have a great day everyone.

Hey all - I try never to mix eating and keying. It does get messy...

I had a terrible eating day yesterday and I really can't figure out why. I had dinner out with my team at work - they gave me a lovely gift and a lovely dinner - and I ate salmon, salad, and spinach. Yet somehow, I was up all night with a tummy ache. Hope it wasn't that salmon since I saved half of it for dinner tonight ...

Hope everyone has a great day. We're supposed to get freezing rain here. Yuck.

Dottee - stay warm and drink plenty of liquids. And that plot will come to you if you focus on something else... At least that's what always seems to work for me.

Unfortunately, I snacked yesterday. :( But it was a controlled snacking so I suppose that's a good thing. Next time, if I must eat something, I need to walk away from my computer to do it! Then it won't be quite so mindless.

Hello Team,
Stacy I am feeling better again but don't want to say much better and jinx myself. I just have to keep myslef from coughing too much and too hard...so it's warm liquids and cough drops. LOL The weather is warmer here today too. It is 13 deg. here now. We are making progress.Happy Retirement dinner. Have fun and enjoy it.

Marcy no schools closed or delayed here today. You sound busy. I hope you don't run out of ink for your printer.

Since I feel better today, I'll be trying to come up with a plot for my new book again. Yesterday i didn't feel that good so I didn't even give it a thought. I have some ideas.

Have a great Wednesday and stay warm. emoticon emoticon

Dottee- I do know where Utica is. . We were at -2 this morning so the school had a 2 hour delay. They have not had a full day since returning after Christmas break.

I'm doing end of year reports today and tomorrow. Everyone wants their W-2's even though they cannot file until January 31. So my printer is working overtime.

Have a warm day if you can.

Dottee - love your new profile image - of course it's always nice to see the real you!! Thanks for stopping by the Blog and leaving a comment. And I hope you feel 100 percent very soon!

Today the weather is a bit better here in beautiful, nowhere Kansas. Still snow on the ground and more snow promised for tonight, but it's 20F instead of minus something!

Today is my "retirement dinner" with the Sales and Marketing team at work. The Communications Department used to report to the CEO but for the last few years has reported up through Sales - sort of a fun department to work with. Very positive people who take rejection well!! So I'm looking forward to a good time despite the restaurant dinner out!

Take care everyone, stay safe and warm!

Hello Team,
It is 0 deg. here right now. I've been under the weather with a cold the last couple of days. I thought i was better yesterday but then did not feel that good today.

Marcy I live in Sauquoit, New York which is near Utica. And if you don't know Utica, I'm 60 miles east of Syracuse. I think you guys were colder than us today. Only the city schools were closed today. The rest, brave souls, were open even with the wickedly cold wind chills. Sorry you had to go out in this horrible weather.

Stacy it feels like the Arctic Pole here today.I will have to check out your blog. I have to re-do my blog soon as I feel better. That LINKS feature sounds interesting too.

Good afternoon everyone! Still cold here and everyone seems a little cranky as a result. I have a couple of "new" pieces to chat about.

First, I'm very excited to tell you all that I've posted my blog, www.newgardenerblues.wordpress.com
and while it's still very much "in the works" at least it's a start.

I've also announced and posted as a pilot a new LINKS feature for Writers Team - I'm happy to post the link of your Blog, Website, and so on. To have me do this, please SparkMail me with the following:

Your name as you'd like it displayed on the link
The link itself
A one sentence or phrase description.

Let's be sure to support each others' efforts on Spark and out in the writing world!!

Stay warm and stay safe!!

Stacy - I have a Kindle Fire too. I use it when I am on the exercise bike, and to edit my novels. I cannot edit on the computer so I either have to print the entire novel or transfer the file to the Kindle where it feels like I'm reading a real book.

ERIECANALGAL - where in New York do you live? I'm in Northern PA very close to the New York border.

We had Negative 22 this morning. It is all the way up to Negative 18 right now. They closed school yesterday before the kids left for the day. I am a township auditor and unfortunately have to go start the annual audit today, so I have to leave the house.

Hello everybody,
Stacy we are at 4 deg. here tonight with a below zero windchill. And it will be even colder tomorrow morning. Did your cars make it out of the driveway? It's getting closer to retirement! Yay!

FITADMIN83 I think this cold has reached almost every state in the Union. I'm planning on staying in for the next few days too.Congrats on the weight loss. How much did you lose?

Marcy stay warm in this awful weather.

Camy I will have to check out that video.

I slept until 10:30 today and felt much better today but rescheduled my dental appt. anyway because of the temps. and possible ice outside.

Good Night all! emoticon

I can' believe I missed so many days.

I have the Fit Bit One tracker and I love it. I got if for Christmas last year, it has really helped me stay active.

We had freezing rain over night followed by a small amount of snow. It is up in the thirties right now, but it is supposed to be -10 over night with a high of 5 above tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi Everyone!

ERIECANALGAL, thank you for your thoughts. I am seriously considering it because I had a very successful week this past week and want to see the scale keep going down:)

MADEIT3, Wow, that is darn cold:( I am in central NE and we are starting in the low 50s this morning but the temp will be plummeting soon enough. It is going to be very cold for the rest of the week so I am hunkering down and just riding the wave as they say.

Have a fantastic day everyone:)

Good morning Writers! It's -9F this morning - so unusual for Kansas although maybe not for some of you further north or on the East Coast. We're shivering and wondering if our cars will make it out the drive!

Dottee -- thanks for the information on golomkis. Interestingly, I have a Polish grandmother who used to make stuffed cabbage exactly as you describe it. But she just called it stuffed cabbage. It's been years since I tasted it! POPEYETHETURTLE is marketing his plot creating skills somewhere on this message board - he's given us all something to think about in the way of ghost writing, or at least ghost plotting!

Everyone who has a tracker - I have a Fit Bit One and I adore it. Getting my steps in and knowing that I've done so is really important.

Well, it's off to work! Have a great Monday!

Hi Team,
Rosie I see you have a Spark Activity Tracker. I have one too and love it. It helps keep me motivated to get in those steps each day.

Stacy golomkis are stuffed cabbage rolls cooked in a thin tomato sauce over them. They usually have a ground beef and rice stuffing. 12.000 steps would be a lot for me. I'm lucky to get 6,000 a day in. I'll have to check the plot idea with POPEYETHETURTLE then.

ANTONYMI sorry there is no good Chinese food in Texas or maybe you just haven't discovered THE place yet. It's a good thing you like Mexican food.

FITADMIN83 I have the SP Tracker, love it, and use it every day.

CAMY exactly, just knowing the tracker is there makes me want to get those steps in everyday. I've had mine for 3 months now.

Good Night everyone. emoticon

CAMY- Thank you for your thoughts. I really want to purchase it and give this a real shot at being healthy. I have an elliptical downstairs and I do walk around my house a lot during the day so seeing the steps add up it would be great:) Going to think on it a bit more and it is something for me so that is important too:)

ANONYMI I love fresh tortillas and salsa! We have a great Mexican restaurant where I get my fix.

FITADMIN, I just got a Spark Activity Tracker about a week ago. I like it a lot. Instead of clipping it to my shoe or waistband, I put it on a loose elastic around my ankle and it works really well. It had made me more aware of ways I can be moving during the day and not just working out. It makes it easy to track my exercise on SparkPeople. I'm not sure how it will impact my weight loss over the long term but it's been neat so far.

Hi Everyone!

I am happy to finally be taking control of my life again so I can get healthier. I have a lot of reasons to do so and I am actually thinking of purchasing the Spark Activity tracker. Has anyone purchased and used it? How do you like it? Sometimes I think I am over estimating or short changing myself on the amount of steps or exercise I am doing in a day. What thoughts do you all have on the tracker if you use it and would it be a good investment? Thanks!

Hi CHEROKEE_ROSE, glad to see that you're getting back to it!

ERIECANALGAL, I do like golomki. However, I'm a vegetarian so I do without the ground meat and kind of make my own version of it. I haven't made any in forever, but I might just have to now...sounds so good!

MADEIT3, I would say that the loss of good Chinese food has been the hardest...seems like they just don't make it the same in the South. I can make my own pizza and my own polish food, but I have never been able to replicate the exquisite Chinese food of the North. My boyfriend is a true, East coast, Italian guy, so he mourns the loss of food from his home region even more than I do. I do love Mexican food though, and there is lots of that here! Instead of fresh pierogis and kolache at the grocery store, I now buy fresh, handmade tortillas and salsa. I guess it all balances out.

Good morning all!

We woke up to blowing snow this morning. If it had snowed more, we'd have a total whiteout. So I'm ensconced at my computer with a cup of ginger tea. I think DH will start a fire. What could be better?

CHEROKEE_ROSE - glad to see you here!! Sounds like you are off and running with your writing. I will need to Google Viki King... I'm completely ignorant of screenplay writing. And four hours a day of exercise? You are my hero!

ANONYMI - I just had to chuckle! You went from Chicago where it's -55 to Texas where it's 55. And I'm in Kansas, smack in between, and today it will be -28 wind chill. If only it was going to be 0 I could say we're in the middle! I have a friend who mourns the loss of Chicago food, especially the pizza.

Marcy and Dottee - I can't imagine making pirogi from scratch. And I will have to Google golomki - never heard of them! My mom, who I think started the whole pedometer craze back in the 1970's, used to walk 12,000 steps every day. But she said it did no good to walk around the house or garden. You had to take regular walks outside. So she did 3 miles a day in the morning and another 3 in the evening. I did that for years and really had an easier time with maintenance. Maybe I'll get back to it... And Dottee, as for plots. You know we have a plot King POPEYETHETURTLE, who has been giving away intricate story lines for free...

Have a wonderful day all!!

I'm checking in a little late, but I am in for the challenges. I need to get to my writing. I am reading my screenwriter's bible, and I will do writing assignments everyday, or start fleshing out my story. I have a spiral notebook that I can use to write in. I might read Viki King's book too...it's a great short, inspirational read.

And I have to get back to it. I have done 4 hours of exercise a day...but due to depression over the holidays, I've not done much at all. SO! Back to it. Great time for me to join in and reap some support and accountability to help me get 'er done.

ANONYMI do you like golomki? I love those too and do make them often. We had some very cold weather here too! But supposedly we are supposed to get better as we go along.

I'm trying to think of a plot for my new book. It's historical fiction for middle grade readers. I have the characters, setting, and year all set. Now I just have to come up with a great plot.

That's about enough for tonight. Good Night everyone. emoticon

Mmm pierogis! I'm Polish, so that sounds wonderful lol. I haven't ever made my own from scratch (yet) but it's on my to-do list. I'm lazy and buy the frozen ones. I've been sad since I moved away from the Chicago area though, because I can't find the fresh, homemade ones at the grocery store anymore.

I realized my old hometown is going to be experiencing -55 windchill over the weekend while it's +55 degrees here in Texas...hard to fathom such an extreme difference!

Hi Marcy,
So you make the pierogi yourself. I have to hand it to you, that is a hard job.

It is cold here too. We got about a foot of snow. Our regular temp right now is -5 with a windchill of about -17. We had sun today and it was a nice day...if you were inside.

I understand what you mean about the job being a lack of work if you only got in 2,000 steps. It seems on the days when I think I'm the busyiest, I get a lot less steps in and I have to put in extra walking sessions. The other days the steps just accumulate. Go figure.

I blew the eating today but I did get my steps in! Oh well tomorrow is another day.

Good Night! emoticon

I am not polish, but I do make pierogi every year. My husband's grand parents were Russian Orthodox, so they celebrated with pierogis for the Russian Christmas I kind of inherited the job when I married into the family.

It was so cold today. I restarted taking care of an elderly woman today, but I'm not sure I'm going to stick with it. It's not the work, it's the lack of work or anything to do. I checked my fit bit and did not even get in 2000 steps, which means I have to hit the exercise tapes after supper and then the bike. I miss being active during the day time. So I will have to make a decision soon and let her family know if I intend to continue.

Stay warm.

Good Morning Team,
It is 10 below zero here today!!! The sun has come out but it will not warm up---only get colder, if that is possible.

Camy I understand how you could be cold in the fifties and sixties when you are used to much warmer weather. If we had those temps. here, it would be considered a heat wave. My house is well insulated even if it is 213 years old, so I keep my thermostat between 66 and 68 deg.

Anonymi you may miss the snow now but you'll get used to being with out it once you are there longer. I missed the snow a lot the one year we had hardly any. But then I've lived in New York State all my life and can remember years ago when I was a child, having much worse winters and much more snow.

I am not moving out of the house today. I also stayed in yesterday. I think I'll be having cabin fever by the time we get over this cold spell.LOL

I woke up at 7:30 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I got up. I was hungry. That hasn't happened in a while. Maybe I've shed some Christmas weight.

Have a great Friday everyone! emoticon

Wow! So happy to see so many new faces on chat! Today, my computer tells me it is 7F in Louisburg, Kansas - but it feels a lot colder due to the wind. I'm staying inside where it's a toasty 68F!

If you haven't had a chance to do this already, pop on "down" to the January challenge posted by POPEYETHETURTLE. You'll find it at the bottom of the Writers Team page. We have a little duet going there and we'd love to make it a trio - or better yet, an entire choir!!

Have a great day, everyone! I'm off to walk on my treadmill.

Hey everyone!

I recently moved to Texas from Northern Illinois, and I have to say, I actually really miss the snow. It was kind of nice to be able to sit in my back porch on New Year's Day with only a light sweater, but I still feel very "off" without any snow this winter. I will admit though, that the lack of snow has made it easier to keep active since I can go for a walk without freezing!

It's only in the fifties, low sixties, but my house has terrible insulation. The thermostat is cranked up to 70 but it's still cold inside.

Hello everyone,
Marcy I have the Spark People Activity Tracker not the fit bit. And I did change it on the computer but it didn't stay. I think they are both different. We are at 5 deg. and snow all day about 10 inches so far. You make pierogi? Are you Polish? My son makes them for us. I am Polish and love them.

Stacy Did you get to the ophthalmologist yesterday? And did you get snow?

Marcy schools don't reopen here until Monday. So there was no problem here for them. But a lot of things were closed here today.

Renae sorry you hate winter. This has been a bad one already. I love winter and all the seasons. I don't have to go unless I want to so I stay home and write or read or research when it is bad out.

Camy how cold is it in California? Wow you're huddled up in so many clothes. That's just about what I have on. LOL

I am slowly getting my Christmas decorations down and getting my house in order from the holidays. I am also trying to eat healthier. I always get my 6,000 steps in. So that is good. I am a night hawk so you will often see me on here in the late evening.

Oh by the way I have a website: dorothystacy.com and a blog on word press, "Writing by Candlelight," that I have not been keeping up too well. I hope to post more often this year.

That's all for now. Good Night all! emoticon

It's not as cold here as where some of you are, but my house also isn't very well insulated BECAUSE it's California so I'm huddled in two sweatshirts, wrist warmers, and socks as I work on line edits for my next book. Oh, and a cup of tea next to my computer!

Here in MN it's just COLD. Unending cold. Actually, my husband tells me we're about to have a warm-up into the 20s for a couple of days ... until it plunges back below zero for some as-yet-undetermined period. Sigh.

I hate winter.

We got 4 inches of new snow this morning and are expecting up to 8 more by tomorrow. The kids got out of school at 12:30 today, and it was their fist day back after break. I cancelled my daughter's appointment. Today is a good day to be a writer.
