I'm 38 on the 1st of next month and have lost 40 of the 148 pounds that I need to loose. Yes I too know depression and to add to that I lost my mother this summer...maybe she is my motivation. Being a mother of triplets, I learned this a long time ago.....ONE DAY AT A TIME! Start small with a few goals and go from there.

Each mile begins with the first step.

PANACHE62 ~ Age is simply a state of mind. I'm coming up on 60 in a bit and need to lose 40 lbs., I have lost 8 since starting here (9-3-11) and find everyone here to be supportive and going through the same battles as I do. We're all in this together. Good luck classmate!

I was looking strictly at the Class of Aug28 when I wrote that, thinking, I wished there was someone " like me" starting out at the same time. I appreciate the chin chuck.

One goal at a time.

I know how hard it is. I don't lose weight easily like some do. But the fitness and nutrition trackers have been really helpful to help me understand maybe what has been going on and why I am having so much trouble. Have you utilized these resources?

Im 51 and sure that I can do it,even though I have been overweight for almost 20 years and tried constantly to try and lose some. But I went it alone and it just wasn't working. Also I thought I ate much less than I actually did. I have eaten in the range of 2000 calories for the last 3 days and sure as hell Im up by 200gms, inspire of exercising regularly. You can do it...giving up will just leave you where you are. So come on ...cheer up !

carpe diem....Sieze the day !

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea most people on here are too young to relate - I'm 47 and I'd say I'm about the median age of most of my sparkfriends. I've got probably half a dozen or so in their 70s. :)

Just take it one day at a time. Oh here...let me introduce you to my friend ~INDYGIRL. Yeah she's younger than we are (not by all THAT much, she's in her 40s) but she's lost 150 lbs and has battled a lot of the same issues.

I am already feeling discouraged because most people are young than I and have much less weight to lose.

I am a great cheerleader, but I do battle depression, and I don't want to put myself in a situation where I am helping others succeed but they don't understand where I am coming from in terms of size and years.

I am distinguishing this from "making excuses" because I am thinking it through and posting it ahead of time to try to avoid that very thing--excuses.

Yes, I know there are groups for 40s, for depression, and for 100+need-to-losers. But I don't want to be there right now. I can only handle one thing at a time.

One goal at a time.
