Being moderately hungry is a healthy place to be before a meal.

I was always eating more than I needed from a fear of being hungry.

I grew up thinking that if I felt hunger pangs, it was very bad and that I immediately had to eat something. Now I drink some water and wait until mealtime.

I think that most people have a bit of an addiction to the feeling of a full belly.

Yesterday I had such a battle not to eat when I was not hungry.
The food just seemed to be calling my name. I won the battle!

I don't think that most people in the US willingly put themselves in a place of experiencing hunger. For a large part of the population, hunger is directly associated with "not enough", and something to stay away from.
I grew up thinking that if I was hungry, this was a problem to be fixed immediately. A half an hour of hunger will not hurt anyone.
Most people eat too much.

I have type II diabetes, and find that if I want to keep my glucose #s down, I need to experience a little bit of hunger each day. I love to eat! It's a comfort to have a nice treat. I have to limit the treats and have better health.

Yes, I agree! When I rejoined in April of this year, I started out tracing first. Then reducing and waiting to eat until it seemed necessary. I had forgotten what it was to really be hungry but not starving. Oddly enough, I still had moments where I'd not have time and skip eating so I was STARVING to eat. Felt like my throat was trying to devour my food before I'd finished getting it down my esophagus! But, I am now down from 249 to 239 since then!
Only eat when hungry is a better way. I believe in good snacks to help you and if you NEED to eat even after you've hit your limit, then the quality of what you eat is what you need to watch. An extra salad vs that burrito is a no-brainer. Sadly, I still eat the bad stuff but then, I love all food! I'm all about doing your best to moderate.

I try to wait until I feel the first signs of hunger before eating. Not always easy when eating with family and friends.

Now THAT's a good question. I don't know! I don't know if people without teeth chew gum.

Yes, and I believe I read somewhere that chewing activates the whole enzyme process which helps you to digest your food and fill full emoticon

Hello,

Has anyone noticed that if you don't chew your smoothie at length, despite the fact you don't need to because it is puree after all, you wound up hungry again after a few minutes again.

I believe someone said, "Chew your drinks and drink your food." I can see how the chewing part is important or is it just me? :)
