True,
It is very easy to have diarrhea and be excreting nutrients rather than uptaking them.

1. Also 80% of our immunity stems from a healthy interaction with our gut flora
2. Healthy gut flora can also help suppress pathogens.
3. The metabolism of carbohydrate in our bowel produces 80% of our serotonin, our feel good hormone.

Most people do not realize that without a healthy gut, the nutrients that we consume do not get into our bodies correctly.

I bought my original batches of both Kefir and Kombucha online from Ebay.

Since then we have bought packet cultures of Kefir from either a Healthfood shop or from iherb.com
My BIL started his Kefir from a ready-made unpasteurized Kefir drink from a healthfood store.

A neighbor of mine started their Kombucha just from unpasteurised drink from a health food store. There was no scoby involved, tho 1 did grow

WOW! I never knew how to make a fresh batch! I have family in New Jersey, USA who bought some kefir starter from Turkey. It cost them about $40.00
I didn't know that there was a cheaper, easier and quicker way to make it.
I only know of 1 store within a 30 mile radius that will sell me kefir that I know is unappeased.
I have a lot to learn about kefir.

Whene a fresh batch with your old culture
I would use 1/2 cup Kefir, 1 litre of milk and 1 & 1/2 tablespoons of white sugar.
Mix well and maybe leave on the benchtop for 48 rather than 28 hours.
If it separates, dont worry

Richard, I did not know that sugar would revive my kefir. I have a batch now that is not doing much. I don't have any probiotic capsules.

Yes,
For the most part we call grocery stores supermarkets.
There is long-life (UHT) goats milk available at a high price.
There is also goats milk powder, which is also expensive compared with regular milk powder.
Then there is the big range of "milk" made from oats, rice, almonds, soy, coconut etc
I think many of these have had added sugar which the kefir responds to.
Sometimes to revive a slow culture I either add some sugar to a fresh batch or get a probiotic capsule and empty the contents into a fresh makeup
Cheers Richard

Goats milk is not available in grocery stores in the US. I have friends who drink it and swear by it. I think that I would have to buy my own goat to get goats milk.
Sad, but true!
do grocery stores in Australia sell goats milk?

Cows normally produce a 50/50 mix of A1 and A2 proteins in their milk.
A2 has been found to be better tolerated by some people.
There is a company in Australia that has selected cattle that only produce A2 milk as part of its herds.
It is more expensive than regular milk and a lot is being exported to China on account of Australia's clean/green image.
If it was available in the States you would probably only find it in a long-life milk or milk powder.
Because goats milk is so easily digested, that would be my preferred option
Cheers Richard

We also make our own kefir to have each day.
My wife refrigerates hers after it initially thickens.
Mine stays on the kitchen bench, it curdles, is more acid and pungent.
I take a tablespoon of a 1/3rd mix of tumeric, garlic and ginger in mine.
Have made batches with A2 milk, it turns out very thick, nearly like yoghurt.
Also have a supply of both regular and goats milk powders at home.
Whilst I regularly use the normal milk powder for a batch. havent explored making a mix incorporating goats milk powder yet.
Cheers Richard

I have kefir in my home, and add it to my smoothie. Kefir is basically a liquid yogurt that I make from a kefir starter (my son gave it to me), and I'm able to have a fresh batch of kefir every day.
I might not go to the trouble of making a green smoothie every day if I did not have the kefir in the home.

Well I first started on smoothies when my doc said the words, high cholesterol! Ive had bad luck trying to stick to recipes but honestly I may just need to find better ones! I would usually just thow in zucchini, spinach, carrots, love love bell peppers especially red! cucumbers and oranges, strawberries, blueberries, apples!
I am ok with really really 'green' tasting juices for the most part.
I did go a little crazy and tried to juice anything I could think of. I now know with a unshakeable resolve that I will NOT drink turnips, potatoes, or celery. Sorry but not so sorry folks, wont do it!
emoticon
I have not juiced in over a year but I have been looking at the machine wanting a fresh made juice drink so I plan on making something right quick!
So, just to clarify, I have a juicer and a smoothie maker. I just happened to make more things in the juicer than the smoothie maker but ultimately got tired of just juice. Didnt fill me up and/or last so I am planing on making smoothies lol!

i thought this was a good way to get in veggies and fruit that I normally wouldn't through normal eating and it's one of the best investments I've made. I go through more produce than I ever have in a week and I can feel the difference.

I am interesting in improving my health through food, but don't particularly like the process of eating. Smoothies are easier for the body to digest, are yummy, and so full of nutrients. It is also a quicker way to get your vitamins, minerals, and daily veggie/fruit quota.

A long time ago I found a site and wanted to try it, well I never did. I am not sure why but it popped into my head the other day so I started googling Green Soothies and found a site that I really like. I tried their beginner smoothie and found I really enjoyed it and will continue to try out new recipes. I also learned that you should rotate your greens out during the week.

My motivation was actually laziness; I used to juice all the time and grew weary of the post juice cleanup so I started throwing all my ingredients in the blender and it was love at first blend!

Gosh, I'm trying to remember! I know I use a lot of ideas from the Green Smoothie Girl blog and You Tube channel, but I can't remember if that was where I first heard of them or not. I kind of think not, because I kind of remember searching for information and finding her stuff in the results. But I can't remember what prompted the search--how I had even heard the term to know to do a search.

But I find it such a great way to get really high-octane nutrition into a single, fast, delicious serving! However I discovered them, I'm glad I did!

Great question. I started with juicing, years ago, as part of a higher-raw enzyme rich diet. Then later, having had fruit smoothies, upon learning that my RH - blood does really well with a #SuperGreen diet, I began making green smoothies. Like the other responders, I find it a fast, convenient, yummy, way to get a nutrient-rich satisfying meal... that my body can more easily metabolize. I usually make smoothies with raw perfect food, supplements (just empty my capsules into blender, and toss the capsules), unsweetened dark cocoa powder, unsweetened almond milk (or sometimes cold unsweetened peppermint or green tea), stevia and ice. I sometimes add chlorophyll, and maybe a pear, spinach, etc., Sometimes I make my own raw, organic green powder (and add in cinnamon powder and milk thistle) to assist w/ HM detox. :D

I was eating a high raw food diet and it just fell into place, having a green smoothie. Great way to get those greens in, besides salads. I was looking for volume of greens. As well as a vessel to add my needed supplemental powders in; maca, spirulina, cinnamon, turmeric and so on.

I was drinking a morning fruit smoothie with some of my nutritional supplements added in. My daughter suggested I add a handful of spinach. Three months later I tried it and I haven't looked back. I think it was about that time that I found the Green Smoothie Team.

Hi, I was at the time trying to eat a very vegetarian diet and read about smoothies, I thought that that is a good way to get a lot of fruit and greens and with the breaking of the cell to get the most of the greens and fruit. I am struggling with my diet, junk food creeped in but I still have to have my smoothies every day.

So Im curious what got you started on green smoothies, or how you learned about them!

I learned by googling different diet ideas, and came across the idea of green smoothies. Of course I went to my answer all youtube.com and looked up everything I could find. This is the one video that really grabbed my attention first and foremost which really made me want to go out and buy a blender right then and there, whether I would like the smoothie or not! Lol. How about you guys?
