Wendy ~ Love the idea of growing our own greens. Luckily for me dh has a green thumb! I tried the cabbage juice this morning, except I use romaine, lol. It's definitely an acquired taste!

See you over on the May thread!

Did you know that you can grow romaine lettuce using the core from one you bought?
backtomyrootsblog.blogspot.com/2012/

/re-grow-romaine-lettuce-hearts.htmlR>#.UX7AdxzPCA4

I've also heard you can do it with celery and green onions. I bought a napa cabbage the other day and thought 'why not?' I stuck toothpicks in the edges to hold it up in my glass and within 2 days that little stinker has sprouted! How cool is that?!

Maureen~ if your blender works for you, don't toss it babe! Mine left me chewing way too much. I was looking at the Perfect Green Juice. I think I'll try that for sure. I bought a fennel bulb the other day.

Wendy ~ Glad you stomach is feeling better! And man, I have my eye on your NurtriBullet. I just keep hearing better and better reviews on it, but my 10 year old blender is still going strong. emoticon . For the juice I think I'll be doing 2 of the simpler ones.

Crisp and Clean Green Juice
1 large wedge green cabbage (or other greens)
1 green apple
1 large bunch romaine lettuce leaves
1” ginger root

Perfect Green Juice
1-2 celery stems
1/2 cucumber
1 large kale leaf
1/8 fennel bulb
1 green apple
1/2 lemon, peeled

I already have some Sparkers joining in on the new challenges, so come on over!

Morning!

Maureen~ I tried your smoothie both days this weekend. It was tasty! Basically a PP without the milk! emoticon I like it better w/o. I think my stomach troubles may be the coconut water first thing in the morning or maybe just something that was passing. I haven't had any issues since Thursday. Your recipe was too big for my nutribullet, so I did the greens and water first in that then poured it all in my Ninja. That thing just does not puree enough. After I drank some of it I poured it back in my nutribullet to smooth it out! A little more work then I like! emoticon
I may do the 7 day juice challenge. Are you going to try all of the different ones?

Good Morning Greeners! emoticon

Wendy ~ How did you do this weekend? How is your stomach feeling? My green smoothie is my breakfast that's why its loaded up with those bananas and the spinach is pretty packed in there before I start it up. I have a Breville juicer which does okay with freggies but not the greens. Are you planning on doing the 7 day juice challenge on 5/1?

I think I'll start a challenge thread over on the other team since it's a juice challenge. I might also start a May Daily Green Smoothie challenge there too. Anyone out there that would like to join us?

I just made a 2nd drink of 2 cups baby kale, celery, granny smith, 3 slices cucumber(most of it froze in the fridge! durn it!) lemon, ginger root and I used 6 oz of coconut water mixed with water. This time I strained it. I was amazed at how much fiber strained out! I've been drinking it all of this time. I like this concoction better strained! It's quite tasty.

Maureen~ what kind of juicer do you have?

Maureen~ the only veggie other than the greens in my morning smoothie is the avocado. I left the coconut water out this morning and it was a little bit better. It 'could' be just a stomach thing too. I don't know if I can do the banana in yours, it's what made PP too much for me. I'll try it, it's basically the Pixie Punch with the exception of water for almond milk. I've never tried it with water, that may help my banana issue.

That's a ton of food for a smoothie! Does it do okay in the fridge or does it separate? Do you pack your greens when you measure or loosely pack? My issue with my ninja was the spinach that wouldn't chop completely. I guess I could use my nutribullet for the greens and then add them to the fruit in the blender. I don't mind chewing fruit if it doesn't chop up.

I'm trying to sleep, I just keep waking up. I'm going to bed at a decent time, often taking Zzzquil. But I'm waking up every couple of hours. I'd love to sleep all night!

Wendy ~ Are you mixing fruits with veggies? The greens can go with anything, either fruit or veggies, but my stomach gets upset when I add veggies to my fruit smoothies.

Also how about trying my green smoothie for a week and see if it revitalizes you.
2 cups Water
4 cups greens (I use spinach or spring mix)
2 bananas
1/2 - 1 cup strawberries
1/2 cup blueberries

It's big but maybe that's why I'm buzzing along. And get you sleep sweety, it does a body good!

Maureen~ shoulder is doing great now! Saw the doctor today and he was pleased. I have to continue PT for another month for strength and continued improvement.
I'm thinking I'd like to keep going with this as long as it's just once a day or maybe 2, I'm not crazy about fasting. My teeth need to chew! emoticon
One thing tho, I think I need to tweak something. For the last week I've had a sore tummy most of the morning. I'm thinking maybe too much fruit first thing, but I don't remember it happening at first so maybe it's the coconut water??? Also I've been doing 1/2 avocado, this morning I used 1/4 and it was better.
I'd like to try a few of the recipes in that link, just out of curiosity.

There's another Green Smoothie Team that also does juicing but It's pretty dead over there too. Are you in for the 7 day Juicing Challenge? How about another Daily Green Smoothie challenge for May?

I can setup both challenges at the other site or we can do one here and the juicing over there.

I don't have a juicer, just the nutribullet. I figure if it doesn't break it down enough I'll just strain it.
You're not going to try all of the different ones? Have you ever used broccoli? Not sure about that one! emoticon
No, I haven't gotten 8 hrs since last summer or fall. My shoulder started giving me trouble last spring and it was hard to sleep. I'm doing better now, but not back to 8 by a long shot. I 'think' I got about 5 or 6 last night.

I had my regular this morning, spinach, pear, apple, grapes, avocado and coconut water. Still tasty!

I just looked at the shopping list and it's definitely wacky. I think the top part is for one juice and the bottom portion is for making the same juice for 7 days. I'm going to be making the same juice. I get crazy just looking at all those different ingredients. Do you have a juicer?

I get buzzed just thinking about drinking a green smoothie, I wonder why you haven't experienced more NRG yet? Are you sleeping at least 8 hours?

I had my regular today. Spring mix, water, bananas, strawberries and blueberries. Also had 2 juices. Beets/carrots/apples/ ginger and a grapefruit/orange/ginger combo.

emoticon Hey! Where the heck are the other Green Smoothie Girls! Come on out and Play! It's never too late to restart!

I usually DO use 2 big handfuls, and the last couple of days I've had 2 of them. I 'think' I can tell a difference in my coloring, I look more alive. emoticon That's always good.

I was looking at the 7 days on that link and it gives a shopping list too. It says to have at least 1/day but the shopping list has TONS of food on it! Did I read it wrong and it's supposed to be all you eat all day?

Wendy ~ How many cups of greens are you using in your daily smoothie? I have at least 2 huge handfuls, so I'm guessing 4 cups. More greens = More NRG. emoticon

Good Morning Greenies!

Wendy~ I think maybe the coconut water just tastes more alive because you have to work so hard to extract it! lol! Loved re-watching FatSickAndNearlyDead. It's just what I needed and I tried juicing for the entire day but caved at 4 pm. The people who juice fast are just amazing that they can even get past one day! So are you still green smoothie streaking?

Suzette ~ I hope you are still feeding that gorgeous body of yours good food while you pack this week. When do you move into the new house?

I had a beet/apple/carrot/ginger juice this morning and my green smoothie at 10. Yum-o to the green smoothie, tolerable-to-okay for the beet juice. I'm laughing over here because I already feel that my skin is softer. Hey! Maybe it is! emoticon

Maureen~ I've never had coconut water from the actual source. Now that you've tasted out of the package, is there a difference in flavor? Other than the fruity flavored ones of course.
Pull yourself up and get at it again sweetie! That movie was great!

Wendy, you and Suzette are invading my consciousness. emoticon Today I bought a little container of coconut water and I had no idea why. Well that was until I came in here and it hit me that you have been touting it for weeks. lol It was okay but I much prefer drinking it from the actual nut.

And Suzette dear, I decided tomorrow that I start juicing and also having daily green smoothie for the next 10 days. My diet was awful this weekend! Who the heck puts on 4 lbs in 3 days?!? Humph! and the worst part was no green smoothies Saturday or Sunday.

I hope you all had a relaxing and healthy weekend.

Monday starts anew and I think I'll reboot at lunch and re-watch Sick, Fat and Nearly Dead. Thanks!

After watching Sick, Fat and Nearly Dead this morning, I decided to have a 2nd drink today! I had my 'regular' for breakfast but this afternoon I had Super Greens, 1/2 granny smith apple, celery, ginger and coconut water. My nutribullet ended up with about 2" of foamy stuff that had some texture to it, I'm sure from the ginger and other things, but the liquid below it was AWESOME! I drank the texture liquid too, since, well, it's fiber. I was going to add cucumber but mine was slimy so... I opted out of that! emoticon I forgot the lemon. This is apparently the recipe he used for a lot of his juices in the movie, well, I added the coconut water!. I could easily drink this every day.
I had to adjust the amounts since I'm not using a juicer. Next time, I may think about straining it, I don't know.

I promise to report back! As planned it has 1282 (whatevers) of potassium!

I'm back! I readjusted. Left out cucumber, added 1/2 pear, 1/4 avocado and 1 TBS goji berries.
Not too bad! Not my favorite, but no gagging is happening! I will drink the whole thing! emoticon Also, potassium went up to 1581(whatevers)!

Suzette~ that sounds quite tasty! I love raspberries!

Mine today wasn't sweet enough for me. It was baby kale, celery, 1/2 granny smith apple, avocado and flax seed. My celery was really big and took up too much space so the apple was all I could fit. Not my favorite, need my sweetness! emoticon

Maureen~ the shoulder is doing pretty well. Still in PT, but I see my doctor next Thurs and the PT ladies think he'll discharge me. She said I have great mobility. I can pretty much do most things. Behind my back is still tricky and painful but it's getting there.
I'm really surprised that I like the avocado! The celery doesn't add that much flavor. I was kinda thinking about having another small one today, just veggies. Maybe throw a cucumber in there, not sure, little afraid! emoticon I need more potassium!!! Oh I just remembered, I have a golden beet in there too! I'll use that! This may be a gaggie idea but we'll see!

I'm just about to make my lunch. It's late. I like that though because I will not eat so much in the afternoon this way.

I'm making spinach, kale, strawberry, raspberry and pineapple smoothie.

Can you tell that I'm high from my lunchtime green smoothie! lol It's so hot here it feels like summer, I might have to go down to the beach and play in the water this weekend!

Maureen~ I am still streaking baby doll! This morning I had a little less enthusiasm but it was tasty. I used celery, pear, avocado, grapes and goji berries. I'm using coconut water almost all of the time now. I like the extra kick of potassium it gives! I just use 8 oz and then the rest is water.

Suzette~ your 'frosty' sounds mighty tasty! Baby kale isn't as strong tasting as... adult(?) kale.
You're going to have a great time 'smoothieing' with your friend!

I am out of greens. We didn't get to the store. I do have kale but kale alone is too bitter for me. I had a smoothie any way for breakfast. I made a Wendy's Frostie. lol I am trying other means to deal with my new sweet tooth. My smoothie was vanilla almond milk, ice, half a banana, scoop of vanilla protein powder, 1 T unsweetened cocoa powder. Not bad but I was freezing after drinking it!

Suzette ~ Aren't girl friends the best! What a great detoxing week you two are going to have. My dd and I tried it last summer while on vacation but either one or the other of us would sabotage each other with their favorite meal. At least we ate good 2/3 meals. lol!

Wendy ~ Are you still streaking with the green?

I think I'm 15/18 days of green goodness!

I was attempting to make a sweet treat green smoothie to take place of my recent snacking habit have developed. Hoping to curb my craving. I was going to make a chocolate mint smoothie but didn't have any mint so I came up with this. It has potential but needs tweaking.
spinach, 1/2 frozen banana, 2 T PB2 chocolate, 1 cup vanilla almond milk and 2 tsp mini chocolate chips.

I thnk I want to try the mint and I need some sweet. Maybe a half scoop vanilla protein powder, skip the PB2. Tomorrow maybe. :)

Thanks for the info Maureen. Good stuff for us to share ot get others excited about this. I don't know if I can be as geeky as Wendy, but I'll try! lol

I actually did get a friend excited about juicing. We watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. She lives in the small town I'm moving to and when I get there, I'll be staying with her till our place closes. We are going to juice. My BF will be back in town so I can be diciplined and not use him as an excuse. Know what I mean? We are going to have a smoothie or juice for breakfast and dinner and have a "sensible' lunch. I am so excited. Even if we do it for just a week, we will feel so much better!

I had eggwhite omelet filled with spinach for breakfast so I have to have my smoothie for lunch. I'm getting in a big workout so it will be a super post drink!

Hold your emoticon !!! Holy emoticon emoticon ! Wendy you can be our poster child for Green Smoothies! Way to endorse them!

Wendy ~ Are you tingly with NRG yet? You should be by now, if not, how many cups of greens do you get into that NurtriBullet of yours? I had my green smoothie last night and was still on the tingly side this morning. I shoot for at least 4 cups a day.

Suzette ~ Glad to hear that you are still chugging away! Remember this is for you!

I make my smoothies daily but here are some Before Prep Tips that the girls at simplegreensmoothies.com use.

When it comes to green smoothie prep— there are many ways to speed up the process. Yet two of the best ways we have found are Ziploc bags and mason jars. Both ways work well and speed up the process immensely.

1. Slice and measure green smoothie ingredients according to recipe

2. Place all ingredients in a freezer safe Ziploc bag (quart size OR gallon size) or container (do not add liquid-base)

3. Label bag with name of recipe and date made.

4. Place and store in freezer for up to 6 months.

5. Remove from freezer and pour ingredients into blender along with liquid of choice. Blend until smooth!

Smoothie meal prepping is great if you want to prep your smoothies for a week or even a month. You can also follow this meal prep plan with glass mason jars. Just don’t add your leafy greens or liquid. With the mason jar option, you can store in freezer and then defrost fruits in fridge for up to 3 days before blending. When you defrost frozen fruits, it brings out more of the juicy fruit flavor, which will make your smoothie a whole lot sweeter and it will be easier for your blender to blend.

Good morning Green Lovers!
My smoothie this morning was tasty! Baby kale, celery, red grapes, pear, avocado, flax seed and coconut water! I'm really surprised that I like the avocado in there, but it really makes it creamy!

I was talking to a neighbor yesterday, and she was telling me her husband has been making her smoothies( I started getting tingly!) in the morning, but she wants some green in it and he won't do it. I went berserk! I was so excited to talk to her about it! She said her Ninja didn't grind up the spinach enough the one time she tried it. Oh baby, I was talking up the Nutribullet! I may even make her one today and take it to her! emoticon I'm such a geek!

Suzette~Thanks! It's easy to get them in every morning when you don't work! It's the only thing in my schedule most days! If I had to be somewhere every day I may miss a day once in a while too! You are a busy, busy lady right now! Yikes! Buying and selling, what a headache that can be!

Wendy you are doing great! My plans changed a little but I still got in my smoothie. I made it with spinach and kale, frozen strawberries, 1/2 banana and a pear. Yum. I added a small amount of oj but it was almost too much.

Now, to get the rest of my eating under control!

Maureen~ I could never understand what you meant about pineapple making it too sweet!
I haven't used it the last several days, but this morning I used about 1/3 cup frozen and it WAS too sweet! I didn't know 'too sweet' was a thing! emoticon

I haven't missed a morning yet with my smoothies! emoticon I look forward to them. It also saves me from coming up with something else!

Hello! I am still here. Thinking about ya'll! I did not have a green smoothie yesterday but I have to head in to the office and I'm packing one with me.

I've been so busy with the sale of my house and the purchase of another and storage units and selling furniture and cars... My head is spinning but good things are happening.

I missed the weekend smoothie too so I need really do better this week. I think I'm at 11/16. Maybe just 10/16. Yikes.

Maureen~ yesterday and today I added celery to my usual! Quite tasty! I don't know if I'm 'really' seeing changes or not. This time of year and the sunlight gets me going so i don't know if it's that or the smoothies. BUT no weight loss and mama ain't happy!
I made that orange water the last 2 days. It's quite good!

Wendy! I love all those new smoothie recipes! Thanks! I've put dates in past smoothies but just like pineapple it's just to sweet for me. You have been so adventurous during this challenge. I love it!

I skipped Fridays and Sundays Green Smoothies emoticon but I had a delicious one today of water, spinach, banana, strawberries, and blueberries. I'm starting to lose weight again so I know it's working! 12/15 emoticon

How is everyone else doing? We are half way through this April challenge are you seeing any improvements in NRG, weight loss, or stamina?

I had my 'regular' this morning and it's so tasty! I talked to 2 more people at PT today about adding spinach to smoothies!
This afternoon I decided to make a veggie drink. Baby kale, carrot and ginger. I decided I'm a 'sweet' person! emoticon It was ok but I think for the amount I made, maybe too much ginger root. Maybe it's a matter of getting used to it. Maybe it was because I'm used to my drinks being sweet when they're green!

LSDALOIA~ I got the idea from you obviously. What are the quantities you use, and do you use a juicer or blender?

Maureen~ my precious NB chewed up that gingeroot perfectly! No prob. I love that water idea! Whenever I've made the sassy water I really like the freshness of it. I like the idea of orange, lemon and mint. I never would have thought or the basil! I wonder why purple basil???

Have any of you added dates? How did that work?

LSDALOIA ~ Do you juice the carrot/ginger and then throw it into the blender with the spinach? It sounds delish! Ginger with any juice is always a favorite of mine!

I was running late so I don't have any green stuff with me but I'll be heading to Jumba Juice and see what I can concoct from there. Also I'll be making a smoothie once I get home. Keep me honest, please!

emoticon emoticon Here's a nice Vitamin-Infused Water from Raw Fully Organic

Sip on this Vitamin-Infused FullyRaw Lemonade! Now that Spring is here, it's important to "Spring Clean" your body, flush toxins from your system, and keep hydrated! One of my biggest beauty tips is staying hydrated with not only water, but with vitamin-infused water!

Many times, you will find those vitamin packs in the stores, but those are dried powders that potentially have many chemicals in them and that aren't even absorbed by your body. Give your body the REAL nutrients that it deserves and try infusing your own water!

The best part about making vitamin-infused FullyRaw lemonade is that you can make it with any fruits of your choice! Citrus typically works the best along with berries, but this combination in particular is my favorite! Enjoy, sip, and share!

This lemonade is a 64 oz mason jar filled with orange/lemon slices, mint, and purple basil. It is then filled with water and refrigerated overnight for a more intense, infused flavor! This is REAL natural flavoring that will keep you hydrated and happy! Who's in the mood for a refresh-mint?!

I'm out of spinach. I have to run to the store during my lunch break but I wanted a smoothie for breakfast so I had almond milk, banana, blueberries, vanilla protein powder and 1 T chopped almonds. Delish!!! Like a milkshake.

Right here! emoticon Right behind you!

I'm around. I had my old(not really old) faithful Super Greens, apple, pear, avocado and coconut water this morning! I need to work on the coconut water tho. I bought a bigger bottle and used more and it was a little too salty today. Coconut water replaces electrolytes so it's salty like Gatorade. At least to me it is.

I was talking about my green smoothie at PT this morning and talked another lady into trying it!
I'm just a Green Ambassador!

TERESALYN ~ Your dd is 7 and drinking the good stuff? Way to go Mama! I wish I had instilled better nutrition when my dd was younger. She became a vegetarian at 9 but we all still ate plenty of junk food. Live and learn!

CHOOSINGHEALTHY ~ Nice job finding smoothie ingredients when the cupboards are bare. Last month I did a 28 Day Raw on a Budget challenge, (I got in 21 days), but we were encourage to consume everything we bought before restocking. My refrigerate is still light on produce but I like using up everything now before buying more.

Suzette ~ You are a wonder! Two houses to contend with on closing, it would drive me to the edge too! Nice job on your smoothie today and keep it up during this stressful time, you deserve the Best!

I'm sure most of you have seen this, "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" by Joe Cross but he's running it free again on YouTube for the movie's 2nd anniversary. It always helps to get me fired up on good nutrition.

Now where the heck is our Nutribullet Queen Wendy?

And I hope all is going well with Cheri and LSDALOLA. April isn't over till it's over! We still have time to make today a green delicious healthy day!

Maureen, it's mental. I have been a basket case this week. We are closing on one house Monday and have 10 days to get out and we don't even have the appraisal scheduled yet for the house we want to move in to. I will have a PO Box as an official address. Stress eating. I didn't realize it till I weighed in this morning. That was after having left over pizza for breakfast. So, that being said, lunch today was a smoothie with kale, spinach, banana, red grapes, dandelion tea and a shot of pure organic cranberry juice. Delish!

Keep the whip handy... Thanks for not letting me stray far! emoticon

Suzette ~ emoticon You don't feel like drinking a smoothie? Where the heck is Wendy's whip??? emoticon Are you tired of the taste or is it more a mental thing? What can we do to help?

I miss a day here and there, more out of laziness than anything else but then I remember how incredible I felt after 90 days straight last year. I want that feeling back and once I get over my mental block I always enjoy swigging them down.

Wendy ~ I tried pineapple earlier this year in my smoothie and it was just too sweet for me. I love bringing in the bight green smoothies to work 'cause I always get a reaction.

Mine this morning wasn't the greatest. emoticon Instead of the pear and pineapple I've been adding, I used some fresh strawberries. I love strawberries but they didn't hit the spot. Plus they change the color ugly! Ha! My pear and pineapple make it a bright spring green!

I had the same smoothie as yesterday this morning! Well sort of. I bought Super Greens instead of baby kale. The blend has kale, spinach, chard, tak choy and something else. Then I added 1/2 pear, 1/4 apple, 1/4 avocado, 1/3 C frozen pineapple and tbs flax seed.
SO good!

Maureen~ I don't use the whole fruit, have to cut it up to make it fit! I didn't have any coconut water today. I liked having it in there tho, so I need to head to the store for more.
I just ordered some goji fruit the other day. First Magazine this month has an article on healthy smoothies. It gave me some more ideas.

Thanks for the info Maureen! I have heard of most of these ingredients but not all!

I just bought coconut oil and made a snack bar using the oil and honey to bind the oatmeal. They came out delicious and my BF loves them. I will try it in my smoothies.

I have a big heavy Champion juicer. It's a commercial juicer. I found it on Craigslist. It's easy to use and makes juice from the greens rather than leaving it pulpy. For the first 6 smoothies this month, I just used my blender and added greens. I like adding a banana for sweetness so I use the blender more often. Both ways are good.

I don't know how I will get in my smoothie today. I have to be creative and keep my calories down in order to do it. I ate toast for breakfast and am having a shrimp salad at lunch. If I can keep my calories in check, I'll get in a smoothie for snack. I don't want to break my streak!

hi
e-superfoods

10 Superfoods

Chia Seeds
If you are looking for a green smoothie staple then you have come to the right place. These do-it-all superseeds are good for your head with their high content of omega fatty acids that increase healthy brain function, but have also proven to be good for your heart by fighting high cholesterol and heart disease. They even boast a wide variety of nutrients, such as: protein, fiber, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, iron, calcium and antioxidants. Use up to 4 Tbsp of chia seeds in your smoothie for a thick consistency and a mildly sweet flavor.

Coconut Oil
If you are exercising for weight loss then coconut oil will be an important ingredient for you. The fatty acids in this superfood fight body fat by converting into energy that boosts metabolism as opposed to saturated fats that add body fat. Use 2 Tbsp of coconut oil in your green smoothie for breakfast and you should notice less of yourself in the mirror in no time.

Flax Seeds
Flax seed is best known for its fatty acids and fiber. When talking about omega fatty acids it is better ask what they can’t do then what they can. This powder plays its part in proper cardiovascular and immune system health, brain function, joint function, soft skin, and more. The fiber in flax is also good for many things, but especially effective with eliminating toxins from your body. Add just a spoonful of flaxseed powder or whole seeds to your smoothie for a subtle, nutty flavor with more than subtle nutrition.

Goji Berries
Perhaps one of the tastiest top ten treats, goji berries are known for their healing strength. The nutrients included in these berries are antioxidants and amino acids, but the real strength lies within their more than 20 vitamins and minerals. These precious nutrients have been used for centuries in Asian cultures to strengthen eyesight, fight against viruses, balance hormones, and even to assist with the longevity of life. Not feeling the best? Sweeten things up with 1/2 cup of these berries in your smoothie!

Spirulina
Of course, superfoods aren’t always made from glamorous plants. Sometimes they are made from pond algae, like Spirulina. Though its taste may be subpar, its high content of everything nutritious makes up for it. Spirulina’s top two ingredients are protein and omega fatty acids. We highly recommended it to anyone who has recently taken on the challenge to eat vegetarian. Use anywhere from 2-4 Tbsp of spirulina in your daily smoothie.

Cacao Powder and Nibs
Cacao is filled with two things that we love: antioxidants and chocolatey flavor! The antioxidants boost your immune system which helps to resist those nasty colds and sickness. The rich, chocolatey flavor is delicious and dessert-like which helps to resist those sugar cravings while still satisfying your sweet tooth. Blend 2-4 Tbsp of cacao powder with your daily smoothie and enjoy the warm flavors. Or sprinkle some cacao nibs on top for just a hint of goodness. Or both!

Maca Powder
Power. Stamina. Energy. Drive. All words that characterize the benefits of maca powder. This plant root that has been turned into powder is filled with vitamins, minerals, potassium, plant sterols, and this list goes on. What does this translate into? More energy, strength, and stamina to be the RAWKSTARS you were meant to be. Of all the superfoods we love this one might be the most powerful. Oh, and it might just spice things up for you a bit as well… To enjoy the butterscotch-esque maca powder add 2 or more Tbsp to your smoothie. It is especially deliciously when combined with almond milk and cinnamon.

Hemp Protein
At times it can be difficult to receive the proper amounts of protein and fiber that our bodies need in a healthy way. Hemp protein powder makes it a little easier boasting a whopping 50% protein content and much higher levels of fiber than soy-based protein powder. The hemp content is also kid friendly, as it encourages childhood growth through its amino acids. Athletes can also turn to this superfood for its ability to repair muscles. 1 Tbsp of hemp protein powder in your green smoothie is enough to taste its nutty flavor and acquire all of the above mentioned nutrients. You can also buy hemp hearts and sprinkle of top of smoothies or add to your salads for a nutty, protein packed punch.

Camu Powder
Camu is all about the “C” that it starts with… Vitamin C. Camu berries come from the Peruvian river regions and are packed with more vitamin C than any orange you’ll ever eat. Vitamin C has been linked with stronger immune systems and protection against viruses helping you fight off those nasty colds, and may even help to keep your skin healthy and vibrant. Camu powder’s tart taste works well with all kinds of fruits. You only need to add 1 tsp or so to your smoothies to achieve that perfect combination of tart and sweet.

Acai
A-what? This smooth superfood is popular for its mispronunciation (uh-sigh-ee), but even more popular for keeping you fiery and full. These Brazilian berries are loaded with antioxidants that boost your body’s energy and ability to focus. Their protein and fiber will also keep you feeling full making the Acai berry (or powder) a weight fighting superhero. Acai has a wide range of possibilities. Its creamy consistency and almost chocolatey flavor works well with both sweet and savory flavors by adding just 1 Tbsp to your smoothie.

Bringing superfoods into your green smoothies is really all about knowing how to use them and knowing what you need in your diet. It is important to find superfoods that enhance the flavor and consistency of your smoothies, and work with your mix, but just as important to incorporate the superfoods that give you the nutrients you are looking for. Nothing beats finding that perfect combination of taste and nutrition to help you eat healthy and help our world.

Good Morning Greenies! emoticon

TeresaLyn ~ You are doing Marvelous! Do your girls enjoy the smoothies too?

CHOOSINGHEALTHY, LSDALOIA, and CSC777 ~ How did your first Green Smoothie week of April go? I hoped it revved you up!

emoticon Wendy! You are diving head first into that nurtri-bullet of yours. How the heck do you fit all that in? I thought the jars were 20 oz. I see you added coconut water to the smoothie and I'll be posting about changing up your liquids probably next week.

Suzette ~ I love hearing about your green juices! I hate to say it but I never added greens to mine yet, I usually have straight citrus with some ginger. What type of juicer do you have? How much greens do you need to juice them?

I'm 7/30 today and it's great 'cause now I'm looking forward to the smoothie each day. I'm a minimalist with my smoothies, just water, greens and fruit but I know some of you add supplements so I'll be posting a nice article on the subject. emoticon emoticon

Wendy, I've seen a lot of recipes lately with avocado in them. I love avocado but I have not been brave enough to add one to my smoothie yet. Today I juiced. I had spinach &kale, apple, orange and pineapple. My BF is even trying these green drinks with me!

I'm late coming in here, but I started with green smoothies on April 1 or 2 so I'm on track!

I'm Wendy, just joined this team, drawn in by Maureen! emoticon Loving my green smoothies! I treated myself to a Nutribullet this week and I'm in love with it! emoticon
This morning I had baby kale mix, pineapple, banana, pear and flax seed! It... was... fabulous!
I can't wait for the awesome NRG Maureen promised me! emoticon

Ooops, I need to edit the above. Yesterday curiosity got the better of me and I put a beet in with my kale, apple and banana. It still had greens in it, but it SURE was NOT green! It was VERY red and scary looking! emoticon It tasted pretty good tho. Now I know.

Suzette ~ That's good to know about Jumba Juice serving green juices. I left the house early yesterday morning and didn't get back till late. I promised myself that I would make a green smoothie once I got home but I forgot. I'll remember next time to juice it up at JJ's.

How is everyone doing so far? Are you seeing any improvements this first week? I'm waking up before my alarm and most mornings getting in an early morning run. I'm loving my additional NRG!

We are doing something truly marvelous for our bodies. We are feeding it healthy, nutritious foods! Yay Us! emoticon

Yum. I'm getting some great recipes here. Yesterday I was running errands and forgot to make a smoothie to go so I stopped at Jamba Juice and had their green vegetable juice with apple smoothie and not added "stuff". It was very good and filling. I still need to work on my snacking and get that under control.

Teresalyn I like to garden too but I have never grown lettuce or other greens. I have always worried about the slugs but I do plan to grow lettuce for sure this year and kale.

I'm not sure what smoothie I'll have today. I found a blueberry, walnut and spinach, vanilla almond mild recipe that looks delish!

OK, I am still having green smoothies everyday. I have notice that my tummy is feeling flatter and less bloated which is good.

Today I had 2 bananas, a kiwi, and 2-3 cups of spinach.

I am a gardener and am getting ready to plant spinach to start getting some really good greens and in the seed collection I bought it has Swiss Chard which I have never even eaten. Has anyone every tried swiss chard in a smoothie?

I just had a spinach banana pineapple smoothie. Just used water and ice. I often add chia or flax too. I think it adds a nutty flavor but my flax is ground up. I try the rest of the day to get plenty of protein and low fat. I have not done so well the last few weeks but this challenge is helping me plan my meals out better.

Hello, To answer your question about the ground flax seeds...I really do not notice a nutty flavor, but it helps clean your colon. I also switch to chia seeds. They both are good for omega antioxidants. So far I am doing daily smoothies. Everyone's smoothies sound delish!.. I like to experiment with the greens, have used dandelion greens which are great for detoxing your liver. Maureen you asked me if I eat clean ....I try but I am not a vegetarian or strictly raw foods person. I try and eat more fish and lean turkey, chicken. How about the rest of you how do you eat the rest of a green smoothie day? Cheri

Hello TERESALYN233! Glad you found the challenge!

Hello my gecko sister Suzette!

CSC777 ~ I see you use ground flax seed in your smoothie, does it make it taste more nutty? I just goggled the benefits and they seem pretty good

I had my spinach/strawberries\bananas\blueberries blast this morning so I was tingling all over afterwards. I also had some fresh squeeze grapefruit/orange/ginger juice before leaving for work this morning. I'm hoping all this goodness will help me to eat a bit cleaner tonight.

Just made my first green smoothie ever. I used 3 small bananas, 7 strawberries, 1/2 cup blueberries, 3 cups spinach and 1-2 cups of 50/50 spring mix. I also used a little ice and water. It was a very large smoothie but I halved it with my daughter who was heading out the door for clinicals. I used my food processor instead of a bleader so it wasn't as green as it would have been with a blender. Still it was very good.

Happy Easter! emoticon And Happy Passover too! "KHAG kah-SHARE v'sah-MAY-akh" ... literally "a kosher and joyful festival".

April 1st is tomorrow and it's no joke! We are going to get so healthy, green goodness is just going to ooze out of us. emoticon Does everyone have their ingredients together? I make a simple green smoothie of water, greens and fruit. I usually don't mix veggies and fruit together since it makes me bloated. How does everyone else make them?

emoticon 5 Green Smothie Tips.
simplegreensmoothies.com/5-green-smo
ot
hie-tips

1. For the best ratio, follow the 60/40 formula. For example: 3 cups fruit, 2 cups dark leafy greens, 1-2 cups of water. Makes 32-40 oz or 4-5 cups.

2. If bitter or too “green tasting,” add an extra dose of nature’s sweetener. Sometimes, smoothies can taste a little bitter or overpowering from the leafy greens. To fix this, just add a natural sweetener such as bananas, mango, apples, pears or pitted dates.

3. For optimal nutrient content, drink your smoothie right away. Fresh is always best, but sometimes you will have leftovers. Store in airtight containers, like a mason jar with lid, to limit oxidation (which breaks down nutrients and changes the color.) You can keep green smoothies in the fridge for 24 – 48 hours.

4. Change up your liquid base from time to time. Water is a great base for green smoothies, but it’s nice to change it up and incorporate more nutrients and vitamins occasionally. Coconut water is low in fat and calories, yet high in potassium, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. For a more creamy texture, add unsweetened nut milks to your smoothies like almond milk or coconut milk, which are packed with bone-building calcium and vitamin E.

5. Want your green smoothie to be extra chilly? Freeze your favorite fruits like ripe bananas, grapes, pineapple or berries. This is also a great way to not waste ripe fruits and veggies.

Green! It does a Body Good!

Thanks Maureen! I am all over this challenge. I've been trying green smoothies here and there and I really want to have them daily. I would like to have them 2x's a day but at the least, 1x. I am really looking forward to this challenge!

Cheri ~ Yes! Shoot girl, I was about to send you a personal invite but you beat me to it!

Wow, twice a day? That is pretty fantastic and I'm kind of surprised that there's been no weight loss. What are you putting in your smoothies and is your other meal clean too?

I've been slacking on the exercise too, so how about we both shoot for at least a daily walk if we haven't done anything else for the day. I'm ready to start shedding off the old me and letting my new green shine through. lol!

Hi Maureen! It's Cheri. I'm with you girl on this green smoothie thing. I love them. I have been drinking them regularly daily or twice a day since beginning of March...and feel much better. Haven't seen any weight loss yet. But need to start exercising. Today started with a brisk walk....still cold and snowy here in Pittsburgh....can't wait til spring. Thanks for posting...I love your enthusiasm.

Who is up for drinking a daily green smoothie? If we are consistent we should be able to see some remarkable health benefits by just adding this one delicious thing to our daily routines. I'll be shooting for 30/30. How about you?

Here's an article from DaNae. at the Smoothie Handbook

You can expect some of the following things to occur:

1. More Energy

Believe me, I know... I have a toddler, an infant, and run my own business. All the while I need to clean the house and prepare meals. Life is crazy! That is why it is so important to keep processed foods out of the home and nutrient dense smoothies readily available us and our loved ones. We can’t afford to not receive the benefits of green smoothies.

2. Regular Digestion

There will be no need for a reader’s digest in the bathroom anymore! Through my years of studying health, having clean bowels is one of the most important things that you can do for your body. The bowels get rid of toxins and the digested food.

Many experts say that you need to have a bowel movement at least 2-3 times per day. The bowels should be soft and easy to eliminate.

A green smoothie made with kale seems to work the best. I find that I'm running to the bathroom within 30 minutes after drinking a green smoothie with plenty of greens. I have seen first hand that I can have regular bowels with green smoothies.

3. Experience fewer cravings for sugary and salty processed food

Out of all of the benefits of green smoothies, this one is my favorite. There is nothing like breaking free from the bonds of unhealthy snack food.

My cravings for chocolate and chips were so bad that I would drive to the store in the middle of the night. Not good for my weight, my health, or my wallet! It took about 2 months of green smoothies for my body to start craving healthy foods. Boy, did it feel good!

Just think... you can break free from your food addiction too!

4. Receive fewer mood swings

5. Lose weight!

Your body will be getting the nutrients that it needs. So you will not be rummaging through you pantry for unhealthy snacks. The less junk that you eat, the less junk that will be in your trunk.

6. Your skin becomes radiant!

When your bowels are moving correctly, you body can eliminate toxins in an efficient manner. Usually someone with acne and other skin problem have a problem with regular bowels. When the toxins cannot leave through the bowel regularly, they have to leave somewhere else, your skin.

By drinking a daily green smoothie, you can improve your digestive system that in turn improves your skin. You could say it is green smoothie beauty!

There are many different opinions on how to make your skin shine with radiance. Fancy creams and expensive surgeries will not replace eating wholesome foods. A diet for good skin is one of the best things that you can do to transform your skin from the inside out.

There are other secrets that can give you glowing results. Check out these five natural beauty tips that will rejuvenate your skin.

7. You may feel an urge to start exercising.

Your body craves to be used. But processed foods drain our bodies of the much needed energy. Replace the junk food with nutrient dense foods, and your body will be bounding with energy.

8. Blood sugars may be stabilized

If you are a diabetic, you may need to choose low sugar fruits at first. Such as berries, green apples, grapefruit, etc.

9. Hair and nails grow in faster and stronger
