Today most of my energy is going into the care of my Mom. I need accountability, and will do my best to stay on track. Even caregivers need care.

At home pumpkin is cut into pieces and either boiled, steamed or roasted. It is not necessay to remove the skin beforehand as it is an eay process when cooked. Sometimes it is nice to roast a tray of veges, including onios, carrots, parsnips, zucchini, pumpkin(some people include cauliflower pieces) and potato. We quite often sprinkle the veges with oil then rosemary, salt,(sometimes balsamic vinegar) or potato seasoning. yum yum

cheers richard

Thanks so much, it means a lot to me.
It was actually, surprisingly easy on my diet!
For breakfast and lunch I have an Optifast shake with 2 small scoops of Beneprotein.
For dinner I have some meat or fish(about 100grams) and 2 or 3 non-starchy veges.(no potato, peas, pumpkin, corn or rice or grains)
I drink no-cal drinks thru-out the day, like black tea, coffee or water(diet swodas are ok too).
Things have stopped with weightloss in the last week, also due to reduced diuretics, because of poorer kidney function, so I am retaining some fluid.
Cheers Richard

I agree. Also when I allow family to dictate what I do and how I eat. As sad as it sounds, I struggled more with my mother trying to feed me high sugar/high carb food.
It's taken me many years to be able to eat healthy when I go to her house. Mom is now 96. A lovely lady, but she eats the standard American diet (SAD) unless I'm there.

hi there all
for sleep:

aim for 7-8 hours sleep each day
extra sleep or naps wont hurt
keep the same bedtime routine, even on weekends
no screens(blue light) i hour before bed
no exercise within 1 hour of bedtime
try not to eat anything 2 hours before bed
no alcohol before bed
a glass of warm sweetened milk may help just before bed
focus on your breathing when first in bed
sleep on your left-hand side if possible.
herbal teas like chamomile may help

lack of sleep can increase stress and appetite.

One small change that has helped me to sleep is meditation.
Headspace.com is the site that I use to help me to relax. Last night I only got 5 hours of sleep because of lots on my mind, but often I get 7 hours. That is good for me.

my doctor just says its sleep apena and leaves it at that. Thinking back on my childhood I think I was trained to not go to sleep until around 3 or so. My parents had to stay up and watch Johny Carson at 1.00 that ended at 2.00. The TV kept me up. The fact that I couldn't sleep didn't matter. If I am realy worn out and Igo to bed early I still won't sleep. I just have to live with it

You really do have a problem. Have you talked with your doctor about this?
I take that evening time to plan my next sewing project and write to friends. I suspect that you wrote this comment in the evening!
If you are able to get in your walking early in the day, you may be able to sleep at night. It worked for me. I walk whenever I can and wherever I can during the day.
I sleep better at night when I get in my walking.

my bigist challenge is eating at night. I am up all night and sleep in the morning.I don't eat alot during the day and that is questionable sometimes, restaurant food. but evening aespecialy late night are bad because there is nothing to do but watch TV and read. earlier I can spend time in the snop and that keeps me away from food. I don't like to use machines after my wife goes to bed because my shop is under the bed room and I don't have a silent mode on my tools.

you don't know my wife, she has cut way down on breads, she has been working on that for over a year.and that is helping. However she refuses to try new things. she is eating more raw fruit abd it has no affect on her blood sugar. A her reading was 160couple days ago she couldn't sleep so she ate 2 cups of raw grape, shed already had 1. When she tested when she got up her reading was 80. yesterday she had 2 potato bread, breaded chicken and something else hi carb. Her reading was 160 in morn.

It helps when you can be on the same healthy eating journey with your wife.
You could help her, and she could help you. I have taken time every day for about 10 years to read the articles and talk with Spark People. My husband John is willing to help me with shopping for items that contain no hidden sugar.
Take heart, you will find a group of people who will support you as you make changes. Your health is worth it!

thats what i need accountability, My wife won't do it. I bought a set of double ended bowl caliper and told to not give them to me until I lode 10 pounds. She figure people should be able to do these kinds of things for themselves. Her having to watch her diet is helping some, I think she is more understanding

I have been using this team as my accountability group. I have made a million small steps forward, and just yesterday got the news that my A1C is back into a normal range. Yes, I still have T2D, but it is under control. I will be monitoring T2D for the rest of my life. I'm making a commitment to my health that I refuse to back down from. I hope that you'll read my blog about this.

Hi, I just returned to this team after years on the dark side, I fell off the wagon hard. Now that I am prediabetic i came back, you can say "you should have know better" if you want. I have noticed in some other vegan teams I used to be in are inactive, nobody there. i would hate to see this team close but if nobody is there why bother. I hope you find some people to keep the team going thanks Mike

when i have inactive teams
i do not put any time into them other than responding to team notifications
when i do this there maybe an interchange for a while
i only keep a smallish group of friends and i know what many of these are interested in,
some sparkfriends can be invited to join the team.
furthermore it is possible to stand down as leader or invite team members to be a co-leader
cheers richard
if you choose to just leave the team, then it will have a status of
"inactive leader"
at that stage anyone else can take it onboard in the future.
