Her books are timeless. She also started in the city and in a small apartment and has great ideas on how to grow wheat grass indoors. Go organic seeds and dirt please! If you can that is.

I am fortunate to have the front of my house with a large window are with Eastern exposure. It gets son uninterrupted sun light most of the day. I'm setting up my growing station there and doing micro greens also. I'll start that this year. Can hardly wait!

Ann Wigmore has two centers actually. Don't ask me what they are called or where..LOL It's too early in the morning yet to think.

Karen: I have not read any of Ann Wigmore's stuff but I know of her and I have read books by people who have incorporated her teaching into their plans. One day I do plan to read her stuff. I worry it might be dated now since she passed away. I know she has a foundation so I assume they are continuing her work. I have been thinking about trying to grow wheat grass but I haven't had time yet. I am a city girl so growing things is new to me. I started sprouting this year and I was successful at that to my shock. I want to try making Rejuvalac at some point too but again, no time right now. I figure during my winter hibernation I should have some time to try some new things.

Lisa, I use to grow wheatgrass and sell it to various juice stores around town. I love the stuff! I'm starting growing it again this coming new year. To me it tastes like licorice and very yummy indeed. I do the straight shots.

Have you read Ann Wigmore's books? There's a new one hitting the market this year.

Glad to hear you are drinking it. I need to get a new manual wheat grass juicer myself. Probably in January. I'm tapped out right now with re-doing my kitchen to raw food preparation. Geesh! It's worth it for sure.

You should drink both smoothies and juices as soon as possible to get the most nutrition. The live enzymes breakdown over time. This is true for both types of drinks. Other chemical reactions also take place like oxidation which contributes to the breakdown of nutrients. In general, most everything I have read indicates that there is still significant nutritional value up to 24 hours for both but fresh is best. Fresh smoothies or juices have the maximum amount of nutrition. Oxidation of both can be reduced by storing in a dark container and filling it as full as possible so there is very little to no air in the container.

Erin: My usual recipe is spinach and/or kale, strawberries (like 4) and 1 banana. I use water to thin it and I like it on the thick side. I use frozen bananas and strawberries when possible. I mostly fill the blender with the greens. I occasionally add 2 TBSP of ground flax but I have never stored it with the flax. Sometimes I add frozen raspberries but strawberries and bananas are the mainstays. It might also just be the difference between fresh blended and having sat overnight. I know bananas oxidize so the browner tinge makes sense. I just wanted to make sure this was normal and that it was still ok to drink. Maybe I need to shake it harder in the morning. I juice wheat grass with a manual juicer most mornings and I also like the taste. I drink it as a shot. I was surprised by the sweetness of it. I don't love it but it is much better than I ever imagined it to be. I drink 2-3 oz per day (most days).

I've heard that about JUICES, not smoothies. Who ever said that may have meant JUICES. And, yes, green JUICE needs to be consumed right away for the highest amount of nutritional pack. But again, juice doesn't contain the entire item like smoothies.

On smoothies you have up to 48 hours actually. I've had mine many times within 24 hours and they taste absolutely the same as the moment I made them.

I have heard that the availability of the nutrients in green smoothies begins to decrease after about 15 minutes--so waiting 24 hours to drink it will result in a less-nutrient dense drink, according to that information. Has anyone else read that?

I make my smoothies in the AM and extra for DH for the next morning, for him to take to work with him. They do discolor a bit, but I always thought it was just a color wheel thing. I have so many colors that go into mine that they come out grey. Which really doesn't bother either one of us. The thickness we experience I chalked up to all the things I put into mine.
I add spiralina, a grass trio, a lot of greens, any seeds will make them thicker as well as bee pollen... do you add water, almond milk or juice to yours? I have to add extra water about 16 ounces to 48 ounces of smoothie or I am eating it as a pudding. Which I do off and on sometimes. It really makes me slow down as I eat it and actually chewing your smoothies is a good thing. It gets our digestion kicking in and working all the systems together.
I am am unusual person though, I like my smoothies tasting like a whole bunch of veggies more than sweet. Of course I like the taste of wheat grass too, when others hate it. I do add an extra apple and banana to DH's and he said he just has to shake it up hard and it seems to break down again. Are you following a recipe or just winging it?

Walk through your journey with a loving open heart and as well mind. Treat others as you would like to be treated.
Laugh, if at nothing else yourself.

Lisa, I use bananas daily and I have stored the smoothie already made up for 24 hours. No discoloration. But I put other colorful fruit in my fruit/protein smoothies. Try adding some other fruit with it like strawberries or another berry. That should take care of the problem.

I haven't experienced this, but I drink my smoothies w/in 24 hrs. My bananas are frozen probably 95% of the time before they go into smoothies, so I would try that (if it's not something you're doing already) to see if it makes a difference.

When making smoothies with bananas, do you notice they look brown and kind of gelatinous the next day? I try to make my smoothies fresh but sometimes I have left overs and would like to drink it the next day. The look is very off putting. People say smoothies keep for 24 hours (of course fresh is best). Anyone notice anything odd about stored smoothies with bananas in them. Bananas are a common ingredient in my smoothies.
