I've been making and eating green smoothies this week and I can tell my colon is getting cleaned out - whew! My question is that I feel like I should be energized but I'm more tired than normal. Did anyone feel like that at first? (I'm not even that far overweight, either - I really want to lose that last 10-15 pounds.)

Weight loss countdown:
15 pounds to go!

Don't force the numbers, they'll come. My job today is to adhere to a winning pattern of action that I know will produce results if I follow it consistently. (hussmanfitness.org)

Love hearing everyone's stories and journeys. I am doing my green smoothie 5-6 times a week in the morning, trying to eat raw for lunch and then vegan or exceedingly clean for dinner. My weight loss is good, not too fast but semi steady. It lurches. :)

And the best, energy level is up. So hang in there. It took me about 2 weeks of feeling fairly sluggish before it hit. I guess it was my body getting rid of whatever it didn't want.

Still contemplating doing some juicing. I have a round of unexpected $$ (car related) and when that settles, we'll see about a juicer.

Have a great day! Out to get some organic soil for my garden. DS brought home chard, pearl onions, broccoli rabe, snow peas, spinach, lettuces, parlsley, thyme for me to plant. Here goes nothing. My first winter garden.

Hi, I am about to try out my old blender for a smoothie made up of kale, cucumber, apple, and celery. I tried that before and it really cleaned out my system great! After seeing "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead' streamed on Netflix, I am very motivated to dive into the green smoothie world. I have out Kris Carr's "Crazy Sexy Diet" and several others in my great experiment. I definitely wannt my body to detoxed, cleansed, and see the weight start tumbling off.

Since I kickbox, I worry about enough energy for that, but I really hear the call of the green smoothie. I've been wanting to this for some time.

CaseyQC- I can definitely understand! I found 2 culprits that may have caused my 1-2 lb weight gain last week. Culprit #1- Too many avocados. Culprit #2- my daily glass of red wine, which isn't a problem in and of itself but lowers my inhibitions and causes me to eat too much of Culprit #1. I'm taking a break from avocados and wine this week to see how I do. I drink freshly extracted green juice and/or a green smoothie each day. I eat mostly raw, but do eat occasional sushi or ceviche (once or twice per week). I have a history of compulsive overeating and for me it's completely mental. So I try to do more spiritual activities, such as pray or yoga. It's been a long, hard battle with food. 5 years ago I was 271 lbs. I feel like I've mostly overcome it, though not consistently with those last 10-15 lbs. But I completely understand your struggle with hunger. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help! Keep up the good work and the smoothies!

Marie

I don't eat any animal proteins. I do eat whole grains. don't eat processed foods and drink mostly water and tea. have all natural juices once in a while.

I am thinking it might be that I was adding to much fruit like you had said before. I made one today with less fruit and it seemed to fill me up more and it was less than I normally drink. Thanks for all your help. i appreciate it.

CASEYQC I looked on your Spark page to see what exactly your whole day's intake it but you do not share your Food Tracker, which is fine.

What else do you eat during the day? Any animal protein or refined carbohydrates including grains? Any processed foods, including beverages?

I am never hungry and sometimes have to force myself to eat because my calorie count for the day is too low. The best side effect for me is that I am no longer always hungry because eating 100% Raw all the goop caked on the side of my colon has been detoxed and now my body is able to absorb all the nutrients it needs. Meat, complex carbs, processed foods, grains, etc clog your colon wall.

I made my very first green smoothie this morning!
I kept it simple with just pineapple, banana, and spinach. I had to put the blender to liqudify but it turned out great. I want to make one with strawberries.

I get this way at times too. I than change it up to a few savory green ones. Making an italian green one, or a salsa green one, a avocado spinach onion, garlic one. I make them like a green soup. Yvonne has been posting several green soup smoothies here. I eat mine in a bowl and love the fresh chill and spice they have. This checks my hunger each and every time.

I usually put at least 3 cups of greens like kale or spinach or some other green, been putting .5 cucumber in it too, then fruits like apples, blueberries, bananas, mangos. A typical smoothie is: 3 cups of greens, 1 banana, .5 c blueberries, .5 c mango, 1 Tbs flax oil, water

What are you putting in your smoothies? Are they mostly sweet and fruity or are they more green? Sugar even natural sugar will cause you to be hungry.

When I first started drinking the green smoothies, they were filling me up. I didn't want anything to eat for at least 4 hrs. Now I seem to be hungry all the time again. I am obsessing on food again. I will make my smoothie and while I am drinking it I am looking for something to eat. Ugh.

I have gained 3 pounds this wk cause I am back to eating all the time again. It is healthy food for the most part, but way too much I guess.

Does anyone else get this way? I know most of you eat raw diets. I don't eat raw but I do eat mostly vegan. I wish I knew what was going on. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks

Oh, I am a liquid-aholic and I only drink water and green tea (and smoothies if you count those hehe), so water isn't an issue... I drink TONS... I didn't drink as much when I had my stones (was drinking a lot of juice and milk back then) and I had just stopped breastfeeding, so I'm just going to assume I was causing them and that it's not a chronic issue for me. There isn't much of a family history of them either, one of my half-brothers has had them a few times in his life, but that's about it.

I have chronic kidney stones but mine are not oxalate driven. However, my doctor told me if I eat the greens cooked they are not taxing on the kidneys. If I still want to do Raw greens I am supposed to make sure I drink a lot of water with it.

OK, I've gotta jump back to the spinach issue...

I had really bad kidney stones once (we're talking the shreading the UT on the way out causing excruciating pain and a bad infection kinda stones...) and I read to avoid spinach, so I have been afraid of it for a couple years now, but recently I've been doing green smoothies and salads daily and both usually packed with baby spinach! I haven't had an issue yet, but I do worry a little.

Does anyone have more info on spinach and kidney stones?

I was using ginger daily and stopped for awhile, I also add it to many of my dishes I make and dressings. It adds a wee bit of niceness as long as I use a wee bit. Ginger and me, more is not always better.

MauiTN, how was your red smoothie? I was thinking pomegranates.

Ginger and dates are on my To Try list for my smoothies. Great timing.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm headed to WF on Friday. Ours is having a sale on half their produce. Including grapes. I want to try those in a smoothie as well.

Have a good evening.

MFTAGGFREEZE check out this site about CSA's. They usually start accepting new members in the Spring. On the right side of this site you will see a map of the US. Plug your zipcode in and it will tell you the nearest CSA's is to you. It will also let you know the price of the shares. Most have full shares and half shares (for small families)

...red berries in that red smoothie, I love them all.

...I have used broccoli robe in some, OK.

.... I have checked out the local farmer's markets and have discussions with the different stands and ask the question. I try and buy organic but I also do natural farmers. Ones that are not certified organic, but do not use chemicals in their planting, or growing. Certified organic doesn't always mean 100% unless stated 100%. Certified organic can be as little as 70%. There are healthy alternatives out there, takes a little leg work and conversations. Co-ops or like Yvonnes stated BJ, Costco, I know Pulix, WinnDixie here has organic as well. Even Walmart has organic romaine and spinach.

Good luck and never forget to enjoy your journey!

I'm going to try a red smoothie tomorrow morning. So far I have raw beet, strawberry, and red chard. What else would you put in it. I have a red pear, banana, mango, and the other usual items one might think of in the way of fruits and vegetables. Any suggestions?

I am tilting the conversation just a bit here but you all give such good info.

I am preparing for a juice feast starting on the 28th. I am doing all the proper prep and I will be ready once Saturday gets here.

My question is about my ability to obtain all organic fruits and vegetables. I am really amazed how hard it is to locate organics in my part of the country. My part of the state is known for agriculture. I guess that goes to show where our food producers have been pushed too.

I do have a few health food stores within about 30 miles or so of my house, but I am sure that I will not be able to make it to them everytime I need produce.

Any advice? If I have to peel everything fine, but what about my green leafy vegetables? And what about the nutrients in those parts I'll peel off?

I have some marinating right now, this batch I will use tonight in a marinara sauce. I added fresh italian herbs, fennel seed, onion and garlic powders. Mocking up them like italian sausage meat substitute. I cut them in 1/4 with using an X cut on the big buttons. Adding the other items I mentioned.

I have been marinating mushrooms in 1 TBSP cold pressed olive oil and 1 TBSP shoyu. I hate using oil but love the texture. I tried 1 TBSP apple cider vinegar and 1 TBSP Shoyu and it worked perfectly, Thanks for the idea Erin.

...my 13 year old daughter can not do mushrooms, until I marinated them.
I use 2 TB apple cider vinegar the Bragg's one, 4 TB wheat free Tamari, onion and garlic powders and let sit for a few hours. She loves them. I have no idea why, but she eats them each time I use them in my pasta sauces. Sauces are raw, I also use them in my chow down chow mein and she eats them. I wonder if that would help at all.

It is to bad, if not do like Yvonne said and cook them. There are no hard rules saying you can't do that. I actually EVOO brush some and grill just the outside, make sure you remove the gills and they love them. I stuff them with a nut cheese and spinach chopped up together, spreading it inside. I never get the mushroom total cooked just a wee bit soft. Soft enough but firm enough to hold the cheese stuffing. I love the smokey flavor when the EVOO hits the coals...yum yum.

Shiitakes are very healthy and have great benefits so if you can only eat them cooked then do so, it is important to reap the benefits. Besides you do not need to be 100% Raw to reap it's benefits.

To be honest I prefer them cooked as well, even the other types of mushrooms. I have made Raw Portobello burgers in my dehydrator but I do prefer a grilled one.

Again I am so sorry you experienced a reaction!

Thanks Yvonne!
I've never eaten them raw before so I have no idea if that's the problem. I eat cooked mushrooms like candy though. I think if anything I just have a bit of tongue swelling. That too with raw tomatoes and avocado but I LOVE them. lol

Recipe printed. :) I will try that out. And I will definitely leave OUT the shiitake. LOL

and yes adding the spinach would make it a Green Smoothie you are just eating it more as a soup recipe.

I am so sorry that happened to you. Do you get the same reaction eating a cooked shiitake? Some people do get a reaction to eating raw mushrooms but since you questioned using them it never occurred to me to ask you. Some people have minor allergic reactions to them including tingling in the mouth, rashes and nausea I have no problem eating them Raw although I prefer either portobello or the small white button mushrooms that most people eat.

Again I am so sorry you had a reaction!

If you want to try Raw Mushroom Soup again minus the shiitakes here is my favorite mushroom soup recipe:

Creamy Garlic Mushroom Soup

1-2 cups water Ė use for a thicker soup
2 cups mushrooms
1 thick slice of a sweet onion
1/2 cup cashews
1/2 clove garlic
1/4 avocado
1/2 tsp sea salt

Use warm water if you donít have a Vitamix and eat as is. If you have a Vitamix blend for 4 mins. And it will be steamy hot.

Save some of your mushrooms to chop up as a garnish on top of the soup.

Seriously nervous about eating the raw mushroom soup, recipe from Travelnista.
I put button and shiitake? mushrooms. I took one bite of the shiitake ones 4 hours ago and I still have the flavor in my mouth, even after drinking 30 oz of green smoothie!
So I'm pretty nervous it's going to be too strong a flavor for me. But I am determined to eat it unless it makes me gag.........NERVOUS. Need some support!
Not sure why Raw vegan soup makes me nervous but it does!!

I know this is soup and not green smoothie but it's the same concept right?

I make a smoothie for my morning meal and take half of it to work for my lunch. My snack is a piece of fruit and a piece of bread/toast with a bit of agave or something. I doubt that will help you with the alkalizing effort. I used to take a small portion of trail mix.

Welcome to the team AZGERRY1

I am away from my home about 8 hrs per day. I have a soft sided thermo carrier. I put a couple of bottles of ice water, my 2 servings of green smoothie, 2 snacks that are a combination of nuts/fruit/vegies. It keeps me all day long until I get home. Oh I also put the 2nd half of my fruit/protein smoothie.

On the first part of your message I am not certain what you mean about your tummy isn't sure here a few hours later. Also when you state what smoothie you've had, can you put the specifics of what you made the smoothie out of and the quantity, if the produce was canned/frozen/fresh/organic, quantity of each item, etc. It helps us get a broader idea of what you are actually doing.

Well, had my first "real" green spinach smoothie today (I have been taking powdered greens for years) It was OK going down, but my tummy isn't sure here a few hours later. But, I need to solve the breakfast problem - am gluten-free and mostly vegan, and am consciously alkalizing my body... so breakfast and take-with snacks are the toughest to figure out. If I an handle green smoothies, then I just have to figure out what to take with me if I am on the go for too many hours and need a meal. emoticon

I think his look was one of fear actually. That he may never get to eat ice cream again or have a steak! LOL....

Lisa, yes. I am lucky. I am still cooking cross over though. I have teenage sons who aren't quite ready. But one of them is enjoying what I make that's healthy. He dove right in to my kale salad yesterday. :)

I had ordered a Breville Fountain. It looked awesome but the plastic container was cracked.

Amused??? Amused!!!! Does he understand what you are doing for him? Actually for you both? I'd probably give him a coffee enema for desert. LOL

What kind of juicer did you purchase? Sorry it was broken!
