Loose as opposed to what I did not want to mention. Plus lots of gas pains. It is only a couple of weeks in for me.

Agree with the soaking and rinsing. Although I rarely used canned beans they can be a bit better in this regard because effectively the amount of time they spend in the can gives them an extraordinarily long soak time. Rinse them well and they are okay for most people, even very sensitive ones with IBS conditions.
As for loose stools, pray tell what is the advantage of hard ones? In my opinion loose-ish stools are the natural state for a healthy human being eating a proper plant based diet (and adequately hydrated).

Ha! Thank you for mentioning the unmentionable. :)

Not sure I can answer a "how long" question, as all three happen to me occasionally.

These symptoms vary from person to person and diet to diet, of course. If one is increasing beans, legumes and fiber too quickly, it takes a body time to adjust.

For gas, I've learned that seriously rinsing the heck out of canned beans helps, as does soaking dried beans for at least 8 hours and rinsing, followed by a 15 minute soak and rinse before cooking.

As to loose stools, that could be the result of several things. I didn't have loose stools at all when I became vegan, but get that now, occasionally.

I had some painful bloating and gas and learned a lot from an elimination diet. I found that brassica family vegetables (such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage) are things I should eat in moderation, and cooked, rather than raw. And, sadly, I found that I was eating waaay too much garlic for my body to handle and I've had to adjust that as well.

Of course, we're here to share experiences, not dispense medical advice. I can't stress strongly enough that seeing a doctor or a registered dietitian is the best bet for anyone's specific issues. :)

So how long does it take to get over the gas, bloating and (yes, I will say it) loose stools?
