Thanks to both of you.

And ug, I just found out I might not be able to call on external help (e.g. housecleaners to clean bathrooms - disgusting as-is but moreso with Mom's BF ... UG! His mess is enough to make me want to stay single for life).

Use eye drops that are marked something like "lubricant eye drops". The active ingredient is Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium. This is to wash your eyes (as hard as it is to not do it, don't rub them). Eye drops like Visine chemically constrict the blood vessels (they get the red out). For your purposes it would probably be better to just wash them. An alternative to expensive eye drops would be to use an eye cup with warm purified water (you could put a bit of salt in it, too -- like a saline solution, the same as with the water you use for gargling and neti) and rinse your eyes that way. You can get an eye cup at the drugstore. It's shaped to fit around your eye socket so that the water doesn't splash all over you when you put you head back. You could always use something like a shot glass, but expect to get soaked.

I've only used Visine but I am sure there are other brands better or just as good. There are so many varieties to choose from.

I am wearing eye goggles.

What eye drops do you recommend? I have never used eye drops before.

You might want to try eye drops for the irritation in your eyes. If it persists for more than a day, I'd recommend seeing a doctor. I'm thinking all the irritation wasn't caused by just the mold but also by particles and debris from the work you were doing.

That sounds really good!

Do you have any ideas how to help my eyes?

All the other symptoms have abated (it's been over 6 hours now) but my eyes still burn.

I took a hot shower, took a loofa and cleansed my entire body, face and all, and it helped for a while, but my eyes are burning again.

I can breathe easy now, my headache is gone, my throat doesn't burn ... but my eyes burn. Feels like I'm at a campfire and have smoke coming in my eyes. But it's been going on about 9 hours now, minus the few minutes in the shower and few minutes afterwards.

When you are done cleaning you could try gargling and doing neti with warm salt water to clean out your nostrils and the back of your throat. It's soothing. Doing neti will make you feel like you've just been in the ocean.

Wow, that ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did the internet search and also found the article "Natural Herbs to Use When Exposed to Mold in Your Environment"
www.livestrong.com/article/32
850-natur
al-herbs-use-exposed-mold/

Interestingly, I have just about everything suggested in the article (certainly at least something from each category) and do consume most of them daily already. I'll just increase the doseages and make sure to get all of them (e.g. garlic, evening primrose oil, spirulina, maca).

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a really good respirator mask, and I don't have money to put toward a big suit.

I'm trying to clean up the mold but honestly most of the mold is out of reach. I'm waiting for the ladder to be delivered so I can reach the mold around one skylight (wasn't installed right) and have NO idea how to properly clean the other skylight as the ceiling is so much higher.

I've already sprayed it all with vinegar - and much of the house as well, so I can actually stand to be in there for more than 5 minutes, which helps. Also have liberally doused the house in peppermint and cinnamon oil, which helps too.

Right now I'm cleaning what I can reach, which are the incredibly dirty walls. I don't think there is mold on it, mostly seems like dirt. I can generally only do about half a room before I have to quit (and that's about 12 gallons of water which is nearly black by the time I dump it).

I'm putting plastic on the carpet to prevent Mom's boyfriend from bringing in massive quantities of mud, and would also be needed later for painting, and I'm hoping that will help.

Oh yeah - first thing I do when I arrive is open all the windows (I keep the door shut for security purposes, it's not exactly in the safest neighborhood), and turn on the vents in the bathrooms.

In terms of the fire department and stuff - mostly I'm finding ways to remove or clean mold from "stuff" - my current issue is figuring out how to keep my body strong and healthy to combat the challenge, much like taking echinacia, vitamin c, and eating onions and garlic to support my body when I have a cold vs. taking some OTC cold medicine that just suppresses symptoms.

Thanks for that information by that author - I will check it out!

Thanks for responding so quickly!

Anything more you can think of or find, I'm all ears. (Or eyes, you know what I mean.)

Livestrong has an article "Diet To Fight Mold". You can just google "Diet To Fight Mold" to find it. They list garlic and onion as good foods to eat to help fight off mold. Good luck and stay healthy.

what type of mask do you have? may be a better mask?

maybe you need one of those siut they wear. its a head to toe one piece type outfit and I've seen them onTV were they even tape were the soaks and the pants meet and the gloves and the slaves meet. (I don't know what to call these)

Look up cleaning mold in a house. (maybe you did)

Do you have the window and doors open? Do you have a fan blowing the air outside (there might be a specail fan for this)?

Well that is all I can think of, hope this helps.

Hi, you might try a respirator like painters wear, they are expensive but they will filter more and the filters are replaceable, make sure and get one that seals tight. good luck

I am renovating a house and it is quite moldy in areas, dirty all over. I know in time I'll get it cleaned up and it'll be fine (and I'm using a mask, and goggles, and long neoprene gloves, and only wear my work clothes while at work, and wash them in hot water weekly).

But after a few hours my throat burns, my eyes water, I have a pounding headache, I feel nauseous. I can't work more than about 4 hours. I prefer 2 hours for minimal discomfort, but obviously that means it's going to just take forever and a day to get the place cleaned up.

I know I could get an air filtration system but I don't have the money to put toward that right now.

Is there anything I can do to support my body fighting this? I don't even know how to phrase the question to try to do an internet search - I'm not finding anything so far.

So far I'm taking collodial silver in small doses daily, and I've eliminated all moldy foods (like mushrooms, already don't eat cheese), fermented foods, and am watching refined sugars more than usual, even reducing things like honey or maple syrup.

I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do to help.

Like I said, I can't find anything online. I can't figure out how to phrase the question to get the kind of information I'm looking for.
