Had a day off today and got one thing off my to-do list. We've been fussing over our cable/internet/phone plan forever, and we had just about decided to ditch everything but internet. When Max was here yesterday I asked him about TV options if you mostly watch shows on the internet and he had some good suggestions. So I went ahead and called Verizon to get it all sorted out.

*sigh* Of course, you simply can't get what you want from them. Internet-only is essentially the same price or more as the "bundle", so I ended up switching things around, more than simplifying them. And when I tried to explain it to my DH, he just shrugged and gave me kind of a "whatever".

The gain is a HUGE speed increase in Internet; the loss is DVR, channels, and some minor phone services. Meh.

At the Constitutional Convention, George Mason asked: “Shall any man be above Justice? Above all shall that man be above it, who can commit the most extensive injustice? . . . Shall the man who has practiced corruption & by that means procured his appointment in the first instance, be suffered to escape punishment, by repeating his guilt?”

From my research/reading, autophagy starts at about the 12 hr mark (fasting, no food.. no little snacks. Nada. Calorie free beverages only. Plain water is best).

It peaks at effectiveness after about 24 hrs, and stays at that level till 36-40 hrs, very slightly decreasing till 48 hrs, at which time it continues to drop.
I have read this several places, buy cannot recall where. I guess I will need to GOOGLE again and share some links.

I'd recommend Mark's Daily Apple, he's got a lot of good information on fasting, low carb, and other things, and he updates regularly. A number of the blogs focus on how things work differently for women.

I make a low carb cream cheese fudge that has .07 net carbs per piece. The piece is about 1 inch X 3/4 inch so a decent size and it's really good. That's my evening snack.

That will be a big weekend, Leone... I hope the water problem gets resolved quickly!

I've got to exercise and then tackle my ongoing big client project. I'm still contacting mortgage companies and one more property management company for histories.

Off to the PT job later. Gotta fit the laundry I didn't do this weekend into the day somewhere as well.

Terri, I think any amount of fasting is good. And I've found that the more I do it, the longer I can go. It comes in handy when for whatever reason, eating has to be delayed.

Anything over 12 hours is supposed to be good, Terri, but I don't know what the little snack would do. For that matter, I don't know that my "fasts" which include bone broth do any good, either!

Budgetmaw,

I cannot do fasts of any length as I get a headache when I have not eaten by about 11:00 am. So if I do dinner at 5:30 and a little snack at 8:00 and I wait until 11:00 for brunch, that gives me a 15 hours .. would that give me any benefit?

I have a busy week this week helping over at my son's house. My wonderful daughter-in-law is graduating with her culinary degree next Saturday and there is family coming from all over. I am going to be at their house (which is only about 10 minutes from my house) helping to paint and clean and whatever she needs me to do. I am so proud of her.

It was a long weekend and tiring. No qualifying runs, but moments of brilliance and Tipsy improves on every trial. Four more trials this weekend, then nothing until this Fall. This weekend will be an out of town event and I will stay in a hotel for the duration--which will be trying for Tipsy. We leave Wednesday and come home Sunday.

Came home to a problem with the kitchen sink and a water leak. No water most of yesterday and it is shut off this morning until Bob gets the parts he needs. Not good planning! I really need to get stuff laundered. Ah well. That's what keeps life interesting.

Enjoy your day.

It was "hot" here yesterday - in the 80s. I thought I would have to turn on the A/C for Mom last night but she said no. She did take off her sweater, though!

Bridge this afternoon.

Doing a water fast, at least until breakfast, which would make it about 18 hours. Usually I have a mug of bone broth for meals when I'm fasting. Did some research based on something a friend said, and found that protein stops autophagy, which is one of the purposes of a fast. I do an 18 hour "fast" most days, with just a mug of bone broth in the morning, and I have gone as long as 42 hours with just bone broth at meals. Am curious to see how this goes. (Autophagy, by the way, is the process by which the body cleans up the dead and damaged protein in the cells. I haven't seen anything that put it this way, but as I understand it, the reason we can fast without losing muscle mass is that the body gets the protein it needs from dead and damaged cells instead of from healthy muscles, but this only happens when autophagy is at work and that only happens when we're fasting. That and the fact that we're LCers are fat adapted, that is, and our bodies know they can get the calories they need from fat instead of attacking the muscles. But, again, that's just the way I picture it working, based on what I've read. I may be way far off on this.)

Need to get some work done in the gardens. Too bad I'll be playing cards all afternoon. Highs in the 80s for a few more days, then a week or so with highs in the 60s.

Hope you all had a great Mothers Day and have a great week, too!
