Not exactly serene, however the peephole is a good thing. The security camera is connected to the router, but am waiting for delivery of the SD card to record videos. Just getting acquainted with the camera setups for day/night at the moment. Not working--will contact customer services tomorrow for help. Weird picture on my iPad tonight. Hugs, Roberta

Hope your place has been more "serene" now that the cops are checking in and your new peephole is hopefully installed??

I contacted our new manager who has ordered a second, lower peephole.

Talked with a nice policeman who said he would have cars patrol here at night, and to call them if there is any more suspicious activity.

I have a Stun gun, a MACE gun that shoots 20 feet, and a 38 revolver with a laser grip, and have had training in using it. I hope I never have to use them. Getting a camera for the patio.

Received two phishing attempts at gathering personal info. Geeze! We have to be on guard constantly!

I hope you called your police department! I don't believe those women were going to "clean your house" at that hour of the night! I would say they were going to case out your house, perhaps working with a team, so the rest of team could burglarize your place later in the night or next week!! That is scary! None of my housekeeper friends clean houses that late at night!!

I'd call the police and file a report, just in case someone else in the area does have their home burglarized!!

Around 7:45 this evening, there was a “Shave and a Haircut” knock on my door. Thinking it was my daughter, I opened the door without hesitation. It was two young women wanting to clean house for me. I kept saying "no" as the gabby one kept coming up with new reasons to get inside. Finally, she left in a huff.

I swear, the next knock on my door, I am answering with my MACE gun in hand, cocked and ready to spray the solicitor! I asked my daughter to come up with a signature knock.

Finally made it to trash bins and dropped mail into the outgoing slot!! That was a biggie chore today in that although the temp is above freezing, wind blowing off the small hills of melting snow is very cold! I dug out an old down REI liner and zipped it into its waterproof hooded shell and made it out and back just fine. We are promised another deep freeze this week. I am prepared mentally and physically this round. Taking the weather in stride like the natives!! Here's to a successful and enjoyable week ahead for all of us.

As a SE GA resident, we are in the path of the storms...we're doing okay. Electricity, not a lot of excess flooding. Other friends in my community haven't fared so well.

Didn't get any housework done yesterday, so today's the day! Unfortunately, I just don't feel like it, lol! Ah well, at least I got a couple of necessary tasks done, two of which were Kyle-related. I still have to finish proofing a letter of intent for Max (for grad school apps) and helping Kyle walk through an online job application. Just need to do laundry and dishes; the rest is optional.

I'm thinking I'll take Tuesday off this week. I want to stop at my senator's Pittsburgh office (there's a group that now goes there every Tuesday) and I have a dentist appointment mid-afternoon. Might try to fit in one more appointment for Kyle at the Community College, but that might be a little over-optimistic as far as time management goes.

Happy Sunday, all!

01/21: 23,007 steps

On Walking4Fun virtual trail:
Chemin Le Puy
Done: 229.6 mi / 559,595 steps
To-Do: 228.9 mi / 557,928 steps
Stage 16/30, N

(I don't know why this virtual trail makes me push to take one more step! It is not a race. It is not a competition. I do enjoy seeing my progress.)

It was a pleasant, if cold, day yesterday--no wind--and I made it to the mail box and two trips to the recycle bins. Getting caught up. This morning, I headed out to drop off mail at the boxes, but the strong wind and light rain made it feel much colder than 40! It blew off my hood and I could not hold on to my cane and mail and hood, so retreated back inside. There is always tomorrow.
Enjoy your lovely Sunday. emoticon Roberta

The ugly fact this morning....
I pulled out my measuring tape and dared to measure my belly at its most distended point, 2 inches below my belly button:
40 inches.
and yes my friends, I do look pregnant.

WOW Rusty I'm exhausted just reading your post. Sounds like your have a handle on what you need to do for yourself. Keep up your good work. As far as a Serene Sunday, I'm going up to my scrapbooking room which I might add is not so serene right now. I will clean my room while my husband watching football. That's a perfect Sunday for me. Everyone have a great day and a good week to all.

Went to gym, and walked 1.5 miles today. Speed up to 2.6-2.8. Feel great.

After a month of less than 7 grams of carbs, I have decided to up carbs. So I am having 9 servings of tomatoes, mushrooms, and green beans daily, which is 32 g, with 13 being fiber... 19 NET carbs. So of course, today I gained .6 lbs. May take a couple days to adjust to " high " carbs, but I think I need the fiber to stay regular.

Tonight, I start cooking for my friend. Three meals a day, on top of my 3. Luckily, I love cooking. He is starting at 187 at 5'6" with a goal of losing 27 lbs. in 12 weeks, so he can compete in bodybuilding contests. He's cooking his own breakfasts. I designed his meals.. 14 servings of veggies, and 2 servings of mixed berries, every day this week. Which is about 70 g carbs, and 44 NET. He's not sensitive to carbs, so he should lose the weight easily. I have him eating about 2050 calories. Nice to have a different guinea pig, besides myself. He tried to do this by himself last year, but ended up too high in carbs. He still lost the weight, but he had cravings. As long as he eats the meals I cook, he'll not have any cravings.

At 6, we are going to my friends house to welcome his brother home. He joined the Marines 3 months ago, and has leave. His Dad is a chef in an upscale restaurant in Detroit, and makes incredible food. Lots of meat usually, so I will stick to that, if I decide to eat there. I have dinner cooked, but can slide that to tomorrow's lunch, if necessary. Their oldest son is an elected official in my hometown ( at 24, my friend ), and his younger brother is serving in the Marines. They have to be super proud of them, and they did a great job raising the kids.

Also doing some data entry for my other friend, who has a job as County Treasurer. Needs me to clean up his mailing list of 1500 people. Should take me about 10 hours. Fills up some of the dead time in my week.

So I am finding things to do, and still have doctor's appts. On the 30th I have a Cardio-Pulmonary Stress Test. Walking on a treadmill, with nose clip on, so I have to breathe through my mouth. That's why I am pushing so hard to increase walking. I want to do a good job on the test. I'm back for a checkup, down at Henry Ford in Detroit on Feb. 11th, and hoping to be below 250 ( down 20 since release on Dec. 21st ). That would leave me 40 lbs. to lose, after losing 20 in 7 weeks. So 14 weeks later, I should be having surgery.. end of May. Recovery over summer, and back to the gym, if all goes well.

Have a great day everyone!

Soup is good!! And I have leftover soup I had at the Korean restaurant - shredded beef, fiddlehead ferns, egg drop, I forget what else. Interesting combo, tasty, and a lot of it. We'd never gone to this newer Korean place (we have been to a couple other of the older restaurants in the area), and my girlfriend wanted to meet up with us for dinner after church so she could bring her treats and card for my birthday. So that was fun! And now I can have soup for brunch this morning.

Nothing to do today except putter around the house. Not even any snow to shovel! I hope. I might go over to Mom's for a bit or to Marwa's. Or I might just stay home and be totally lazy. Russell votes for either staying home or going to Mom's, since he gets to go to Mom's with me.

An hour and three-quarters shoveling snow yesterday! I was sore and tired when I was done, but the soreness didn't last. I should get a break from shoveling today, though snow is predicted for the next two days. Then a few days of sun!

I think I'm going to make a big batch of soup tonight. I have some Eggplant Pasta Sauce that I made in 2015 and froze. It's not very good as is, but it makes a great base for soup. I'll add some Basic Zucchini Mixture (frozen zucchini that works well in things like soup), some hamburger, cabbage, onion, carrot, canned green beans, and maybe some tomatoes that I froze, also in 2015. Should be really good. I've definitely been in a soup mood lately.
