Too late to register. I hadn't decided what to take. There were several I was thinking of.

When I saw how the rags were used and reused at Merry Maids I shook my head. I was just floored that they didn't use disposables. Forget disinfecting too. It would all "look" clean, but it wasn't sanitary. I watch how the cleaners here at work do it and it's almost the same thing.

Most people are pretty clueless about cleaning and sanitization. How many times have I seen deli workers touch every filthy surface in their area but because THEY have gloves on it's okay? Honey, your hands are probably cleaner than that door knob you just turned with your rubber glove....

Lucy, yes, I try to have clutter picked up so that the girls can CLEAN. I can't get down and clean the way I used to and prefer, so that is where they are supposed to be cleaning. Its never the way I used to clean, but it feels clean so I'm okay with it. I do some cleaning between their visits so its never really bad. I just like CLEAN!

I had someone come every two weeks for a few hours when all 3 kids were small and I was working full time. I mostly asked that she work on our 4 bathrooms. I honestly could tell she didn't like it. I was always confused by the concept of pre-cleaning for the cleaning person. If I had to time to clean it I wouldn't need them right? She quit and the kids were bigger so I just decided to bag the whole concept.

I pre-clean before my girls come. Not sure its helpful as they seem to do even less when I do the pre-cleaning. Yesterday they didn't clean 2 of my bathrooms...not even the toilets. There was a new girl in charge and I'm sure she is just not aware, but really? They didn't even enter the laundry room and lots of the dusting didn't get done. I'm tired of policing them. Time to look for new cleaners

Maw, I've heard that "pre-cleaning" is a very common occurence! I did a very short stint with a housekeeping service quite a while ago, and it was obvious who pre-cleaned and who didn't lift a finger all week.

The irony to me was that some of the housekeeping old hands WERE so snooty about those messier houses. The messy places were universally unoccupied when we showed up to clean, so obviously everyone was at work and school and didn't have time to devote to "polishing the silver", so to speak. The pre-cleaned ones were most often ones that we cleaned while "someone's home".

Mom, I posted this comment to your page before I read today's thread, so this is a little redundant:

I hear you on the fats! My eyes bugged out when I saw how much of our food has soybean oil and other junky fats in it!

Keep scanning your grocery shelves for better choices, though. Our local big store (Giant Eagle) has started carrying both Sir Kensington's mayonnaise as well as Primal Blueprint avocado oil for cooking. It's taking me years to slowly replace the bad crap with the good stuff, but Babysteps!
I didn't mind that work, but those housekeepers drove their own rattletrap vehicles to the jobsites, and they flew like bats out of hell because they got paid by the house, not by the hour. I felt like I was giving my life into my Guardian Angel's hands every time I dashed out to those cars. I barely had time to buckle before they were peeling rubber out of the driveway and dashing off the next place.

Cold here again today, but clear. Snow and maybe freezing rain begin tomorrow and continue for the rest of the week. Highs right around 32, plus or minus a degree or two. Lows in the 20s at night. One forecast said 3" to 6" of snow. Another said 1/4" of ice accumulation. Everyone says YUCK!

Remember I said yesterday that I'd moved my scale and it suddenly read a couple of pounds lighter, and that while I knew it was from moving the scale I'd take it because I have to take it when I move it and it soundly weighs a couple of pounds heavy? Well, I'm taking it. I moved the scale so Bakomeza could get at the shower to give it a really good clean, and it's right back up again. Sigh.

Coffee this morning with a social club, then ESL, then to the store to get Mom some Bugles and Chex Mix (99 cents a bag on sale, $2.88 and $3.28 respectively yesterday at Winco). Appointment to get some CPAP supplies this afternoon. Will also try to register for a class at the junior college here. I might be too late.

Bakomeza (high school student) comes and cleans for me on Mondays, usually for just an hour. It sure helps keep the house looking good, especially the part where I have to tidy up before she comes!

We are experiencing an inversion here.
"A temperature inversion is a thin layer of the atmosphere where the normal decrease in temperature with height switches to the temperature increasing with height. An inversion acts like a lid, keeping normal convective overturning of the atmosphere from penetrating through the inversion. "

Its been like this for nearly 5 days and the result is 1) We are stuck between 0 and 10 degrees while the forecast tells us we should be in the 20's...and other cities are hitting clear into the 30's. The worst part is it traps in pollution and we have a gross haze and an air quality warning. It was supposed to break yesterday but they have extended the warning. I can still see the haze this morning so no bueno.

I got a new book last night called Deep Nutrition. I read the first 50 pages or so. Touted evils are sugar and bad oils. Not that either of these surprise me. But when I look at how many things I eat have bad oil in them? Well it depresses me and makes me want to throw in the towel. I don't have time to make my own ranch and mayo and peanut butter for a family of 5 AND work outside the home. Working outside the home = the blossoming of processed food production. Boo.
