Yep-- I was so fuzzy at the time that it seemed perfectly natural, but it was scary to think about in retrospect. My sister and my son and a neighbor all had to deal with hospital acquired Mersa and it is NOT fun.

Unbelievable, Leone! Or, at least, I wish it. Unfortunately, all too easy to believe. Glad you survived!

L3on3too: That is a really scary story. A germ filled environment - bathroom - and a shirt with contact of with other sick people? Neither sanitary. Picking up infections like Mersa and Staff infections in hospitals is very common. Your lucky you didn't bring something extra home.

Long day here too. I was in Santa Fe and ABQ yesterday and then back to ABQ today for a chiropractic appointment in the morning and to pick up meat for the dogs (as opposed to dog meat) late this evening. So all day in town. Did connect with a couple of friends--one for lunch and one for dinner (eating together NOT eating the friends--Jeez I am tired).

A few years ago I was in the hospital for CAT scan for really bad back. I told them not to give me morphine, but they did and I started vomiting and then they gave me anti nausea medication which made it worse and made me stupid. I wrote a seven page letter to the hospital after being released. The worse thing--using the bathroom and my IV fell out of my arm. I'm looking at it running all over the floor and thinking this can't be good. Finally pulled my wits together enough to push the big red call button. A person came in (not sure of her position--nurse, aide, whatever), gasped, grabbed the end of the IV, wiped it on the front of her uniform and stuck it back in my arm. Honest to God! Even as drugged out as I was, I KNEW that wasn't good. I will never go to the hospital again without an advocate.

Checking in late as usual, but it was a good day and DH and I walked the dogs extra long tonight. Such a beautiful night but it's starting to get dark so much earlier. I like twilight until 10, but now it's more like 8:30. Ahh well, still better than it will be in a few months. Looking forward to sleeping with the windows open tonight.

Debb, it's not just over there. I was in the hospital overnight last fall, and there were three medical errors that I'm aware of.

First, they wanted to give me a blood thinner in the ER in case I had had a stroke. (I hadn't, but they didn't know that yet.) I talked to the doctor and told them about my medical history, which includes a lot of spontaneous bleeding, including in the brain, and he said no way should I have a blood thinner until they'd done more tests. Half an hour or so after that, the nurse came in with a blood thinner for me. I told her to check with the doctor, that I was pretty sure I wasn't supposed to have a blood thinner. She checked with him and came back and said I was right.

Second, they tried to give me ritilin at night. I take it for narcolepsy, to keep me awake. I do NOT take it at night. A check of my chart and the nurse agreed with me.

I don't remember what the third one was.

"They" tell you here in the States to have someone with you when you're in the hospital. They mean it. I mean it!

Still in hospital- hope to go home tomorrow (it's Thursday evening here, just after 8 p.m.).

My lungs are lots clearer, but I wake up congested and coughing still. Steroids another few days, and antibiotics as well.

I have noticed/experienced a drop in care here, since last year. A definite result of the conservative government's massive cuts in Health Service spending. Less medical staff, and many seem less qualified, too. It's awful. I actually feel I know more than some of these nurses and doctors.

Someone even noted in my chart that I had a blood test today..which I hadn't!! Some of my meds were reduced - wrongly!!! - in fact with the alleged drop supposedly registered, my meds should NEVER have been dropped! (Blood thinners, if any of you are familiar with them.)

I asked to speak with a doc, and was told it would have to be when (if?) the on-call doc replied! I am appalled! Hospital administrator tomorrow - if they will let me speak with her/him.

This sucks. GRRRRR

But my food is still clean.

I read someplace that with low carb, your body will automatically quit losing weight when you're at the "right" weight. Unlike with cutting calories, cutting carbs will not lead to losing too much. Unless you cut your calories way back, too, I suppose.

No woosh here after all, lol. I figured that 137 weigh in was too good to stick the first time. 139 today so down 1.5lbs. Not a bad week at all.

I'm sort of annoyed. People are using words like "too skinny" or "skinny enough". I should just ignore it I suppose. They really can bite me. I'm now a fat burner and I still got some fat to burn! emoticon

I attended my 1st BodyPump class in a year. WOW! As much as I teach I see I can do more and work on my strength & muscles. I'm happy that I had the Energy & momentum to get to the club after visiting with my 88 yr old friend.

Contractor was suppose to be here this morning. Hasn't arrived. Maw, does this bring back memories?

I'm meeting my new date tonight at an outdoor concert to dance. I haven't 'danced' in over 3 years. I mean couple dancing. I've bebopped but haven't had a dance partner for several years. Breathe in . . . breathe out!

Temperature and humidity low and enjoyable. I should mow and pull weeds. Thinking about it. I made it to training last night---I went to my favorite restaurant after training to enjoy stuffed eggplant and a glass of wine. I'm putting a star on my chart for yesterday!

I got to show up and do IT all over again! Yyyyiiippppeeee! Hugs to surround All in a Team Hug!

The pleasant thought for me today is LUCKY.

Budgetmaw, I saw in your blog that you recognized how your IF helped you save money. It's so true. Today is my 24 hr. IF and I will save two meals worth of money. I'm not sure that no one wanted to join you in that challenge. I was intrigued and trying to figure how much mental energy it was going to take to cost out the food. It's quite the undertaking! I'll be traveling along with you on that one. Following your blog. I have put saving on the food budget as one of my goals for the month because I am not working right now. (Quit my job last February to focus on family and health.)
CalGal, take good care of that back! Be careful with your lifting!

Today I'll be continuing my kitchen sorting. It gets healthier every day! Yesterday the food pantry was the happy recipient of a bunch of sugary stuff courtesy of me. My cupboards and refrigerator look sooooo different. It's an amazing transformation!

Have a great Thursday everyone. And keep up the good work.

~Nancy~

Actually, the thunder and lightning were last night. Started off in the distance shortly after Russell and I started our walk, then moved to almost overhead by the time we got home. He doesn't usually mind the thunder, but that, apparently, is when he's inside! Or maybe it was the lightning he didn't like. Seems like every time there was a bolt of lightning he stopped and looked at it. He was very glad to get home!

Dry lightning is a big concern around here because it's so dry. Only 0.01 inch of rain in all of August! Normal is only 0.30 inches.

This morning I need to go to Costco and then over to Mom's to change the bandaid on her foot, balance her checkbook, pick up apples, and take Sandy for a walk. I'll take Russell with me so he can run and play with Sandy and join us on the walk. I had planned to pick up the apples and balance the checkbook yesterday but didn't get around to it.

One good thing about doing a Food Stamp Challenge, or any other kind of strict food budget, is that it definitely discourages overeating!
