The US would never adopt something like that. Gods forbid that we should have a paid holiday every month of the year, mercy me where's the profit to the hedge funds in THAT?! We're virtually the only nation that doesn't mandate paid vacation or paid holidays for any workers.

That doesn't mean that we're the most productive workers, just that we work some of the longest hours. *grumbles*

It was a great day with family. We played a game of target battleship (the target is about the size of a piece of poster paper. To sink a ship, you have to shoot the quarter size dots on each of the other teams ships) - my nephew and I won - he was pretty excited to beat his older brothers.

In Alberta, the first Monday in August is "Heritage Day" If I remember correctly, in BC is was known as Family Day (Alberta's Family Day in in February to break up the winter...... but people only get one or the other, not both holidays in Alberta.

Other provinces have their own versions and names for these days....

This in not a Federal Civic Holiday, just a province by province one. there really was only the one option for the day, with Canada Day being the first of July, and Labour day being the first Monday in September, the only time to have a new holiday where families could enjoy the summer, was the first Monday in August.

In addition, there is such a long stretch between New Years and Easter, so Alberta created "Family Day" to give people a break from the long cold winter. I am not sure if other provinces have done anything similar (and I didn't look it up either..... lol) But like I said, Alberta has the two dates, but workers only get one or the other off, depending on the employer.....

LOL! Gail, you had me running off to Google "Canada Civil Holiday". OMG, it's like a holiday put together by a committee of people who never actually meet together!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civic_Holiday

Connie, never apologize to people who should be apologizing to you. You wouldn't let your child get away with throwing a tantrum; when adults act childish there's no reason to treat them as adults.

My guess, Connie, is that you have not been guilty of this. My guess is that if you are "guilty" of anything, it is of being the peacemaker and the healer and the comforter.

My aura feels stomped and shredded. The Universal question in my journey is: When a person has a bad day or a bad image of themselves . . . why do they 'kick the cat' (another person . . . me?) Seriously???? Little Ms 'Nice' . . . seriously ???? When did it become acceptable and supported to create your own problems . . . and then lash out to someone in front of others . . . ???? My only response to my confusion is to apologize . . . soothe . . . ask her to lower her voice . . . and share what is really setting off the outburst. I can't win.

I'm giving myself 5 days to cool off and get some perspective. At the end of the 5 days . . . I'll decide to either stay in the fitness industry . . . or just sub classes only. Seriously, I have feelings . . . I have Energy . . . I am NOT a Bulls eye for OTHERS! How do I stop being a Bulls Eye? Breathe in . . . breathe out. My purpose is NOT to be someone's emotional punching bag. It's a thread that is continuous in my journey thru life.

Do other people feel like they get kicked & punched emotionally? Is the other side of that picture: to be the puncher/kicker? Is there a balanced area? Isn't the answer the be responsible for our emotions? Isn't the answer to apologize sincerely when we hurt others? Isn't the answer to be responsible for ourselves? (Is this redundant???) I attempt to understand because I only walk in my own shoes. I don't know what rocky path someone else has to feel under their soles.

I have the biggest hurt when someone wants to make a dramatic scene in front of others when we all want to make a crier; person in pain feel better. All eyes on me to 'make her better". Seriously??? Have I been guilty of this method for attention???? Have I????
If so . . . I need to remember and apologize one-on-one. Have I???? Oh, My Angels, please tell me that I haven't done this type of Drama w/o apologizing. Why did I apologize??? Shutting up. I want to escape today. Shutting up. Thank you for reading.

I'm breathing . . . I'm meditating . . . I'm attempting to accept . . .But truthfully . . . . I'm hurt . . . I'm crying . . . I'm PISSeD! It will pass . . . I will let IT go . . .

Hugs to Surround Us All as a Group! Connie, in WI

Up an hour early today so I have more time to enjoy the day.
Went to a meeting this morning and had time to visit with friends.
Foot was starting to swell. Came home and put my feet up.

Slept later than I wanted to, but I guess I needed the rest. Enjoying a late breakfast - omelet and coffee with half-and-half - before getting moving on my day. It will include another run (day 69 of my runstreak) and a visit to a crazy lady's house where I expect to find high-levels of EMF (at least I hope I do, as that would explain her paranoia). I've never been called in to do a paranormal investigation by an elected official before, but we got referred to this one by the mayor. We've got to get to the grocery store at some point (rib-eyes on sale - yeah!) and try to get the lawn mowed before we have to take a scythe to it.

I hope you're all having/will have great Saturdays!

I was up and on my way to Starbucks (motivation!) before 6:00. Now I've finished the second of two client's and I am going to look at my plan for the rest of the day. The new computer is wonderful, but just now when I went to bill my clients for last month's work I discovered that my logo had been wiped off my invoice and statement forms... Okay, track down logo file and re-design forms. Done. Glad I found a jpg of the logo - the software that I used to create it got wiped out in the Great Laptop Crash of 2013.

There's an art festival going on in Anacortes (which is a lovely waterfront town about 20 miles away) and I'm heading there later to hang with a couple of friends and stroll around. They currently aren't eating bread so lunch should be non-threatening! Looking forward to just having fun today. I also have plans to tackle some classes I've been working on and apply for two part-time jobs - both in higher ed. Cross your fingers for me!

My plan started with getting enough good sleep. Mission accomplished.

Today I need to get the boys to clean their room and their little messes in the rest of the house. They've also got a cubic boatload of chores on Dad's list. And laundry.

I need to do some food planning and prepping a la SKATER.

Happy Saturday, all!

Had planned to get up early enough to go to the Farmers Market, get a free parking place close by, and be done in time to come home and cool off so I'm not sweaty already before I start working at the library. Didn't happen. Maybe I'll go to the Farmers Market on Tuesday, instead. At least I got up early enough to take a shower and get all nice and dry before heading to the library.

I haven't worked (volunteered) at the library in about two months! I was gone for a month of that, and they had two interns this summer so didn't need the extra help. Apparently the internships are done because they want me to cover lunches today and do the Reading to the Dogs program next week. It will be good to get back and see what's been going on. They did some remodeling of the library and I think the part in the Children's Department should be done now.

So that's pretty much my day. Hang around with my two little Chihuahuas, work at the library for three hours, and do some grocery shopping. I haven't gotten the treats for the babies (ok, so they're not really babies, but they're tiny little things - less than 5 pounds each!) and I need to to try and coax them out of the carrier. And who know, I may actually get a bit of housework done!

Have a great day, everyone, on this one and only day of the week that's named after a Roman god!
