Thanks for the intro, Trish. Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate at the moment. Losing the baby must have been very hard for you all. I'm sorry for your loss.

hiya Maw, Thankyou for the welcome..
I'm originally British; I live in holland 33 years in the south near belgium,
I have lived in other countries but got stuck in holland after my DD was born...
I have british and dutch nationality.. took it so my DD has a choice being born in holland and still can be british...
Yeah i agree about the grains.. i started to get different reactions to food about 11 years ago.. i should of analyzed then but i didnot know internet or have means and knowhow then.. still not that good but i learn something new all the time..
I'm in my 60th year, the photo is my DD a few years ago..she is now 26, last year her baby died with 8 months pregnant was the fault of the gynacologist so have been absent a while on SP and not taking the interest i should.. my bs is way off track, so decided to try low carb then got invited to attend the reversing diabetes summit and from there the thyroid summit..through the first summit got info about the disfunctioning of the thyroid that this is the main cause of nearly all autoimmune deseases, and that it is very hard to diagnose so should try eliminating diet to see how the reaction is...So i'm slowly preparing for that as i live on a low budget, in the meantime i'm eating more fat than ever before since my childhood..and i've gone as low as possible on the carbs, but im not actually at the elimination stage.. My bs is still not very low but alot better than it was...

I'm trying to post as often as possible but the broken foot has created a hip problem now its hard to get out of bed or stand up from a chair at the moment really heavy pain.. i guess from the foot as i put more pressure on the other foot/leg which is affecting my hip etc
Well have to go feed the kittens..
have a good day..
Tisha

From what I have read, the versions of wheat and other grains that we eat today are very different from the versions people ate even 20 or 30 years ago, what with all the genetic manipulation, whether "natural" or GMO. It's quite possible that if you can find some old-fashioned sweet corn it wouldn't bother you the way the new kind does.

You said earlier you were in Holland. Are you Dutch? Or just living there? We have several folks from the British Isles on the team, and used to have someone from some island in the Mediterranean, but you're the first I know of from Holland. Welcome!

I also love this season for fresh berries, havent got a hang of weighing or the % yet.. but thanks Maw i do have american cups so i will check that one i usually do a mix of strawberries & blueberries, or rasberries and strawberries for a smoothie with either yogurt, or full milk or probiotic like butter milk or acidolphius drink, or just a berry smoothie ..
I dont use protein powders they mostly have soy in them and lots of other stuf...I found out on the diabetes summit and the thyroid summit that soy is totally the opposite to" good for us",
Its been found out to be strange for our bodies methylation so prohibits a natural one, so all these 22 years of my DD on soya with cow milk and milk intolerance has created a bigger problem.. low thyroid and thyroid disfunction... so i'm glad my instinct on not to use it for myself was in order... But i feel extremely guilty to have allowed the pediatricians and dietricans give this soya based diet to my DD...
One thing i used to love to eat growing up was sweet corn, but the last 3 years if i did eat a little would give me stomach problems so had to eliminate it..i do miss it...maybe its to do with the canned version and gmo's???.. I think i may try the one's that grow in my town this year just to see if its the same...I know its supposed to be not good like wheat and rye etc.. but i just want to experiment,...with fresh not sprayed, less sweet kind...
have a good day

I've been counting net carbs and staying between 50-60 net carbs a day. I may need to move down to 40-50. I don't want to go to Induction again. But . . . . to succeed and reach my goal . . . I may have to get my body burning again. My keotone strip is pink in the a.m. .

I love this time of year with the strawberries, raspberries & blueberries. I know I can't eat other fruits due to the CRAVING of sugar within 30 minutes after eating. My carb craving is dormant. I met that gentleman at McDonalds in the morning when all those carb smells were surrounding me. I was fine.

We each find our way in this LC Universe that still has pot holes. LOL! Thank you all for info and support. YIPPEEE!

There's no reason to stay away from blueberries. James' 6% rule is just that - an arbitrary rule that he made up for himself. He finds that it makes things easier for him, which is great. Personally, I'm more interested in total carbs than in the carb %. A fourth of a cup of blueberries weighs 35 grams and has 4.9 grams of carbs and .9 grams of fiber, for a net of 4.0 carbs. That's the number that's important to me. And it's a whole lot easier than weighing individual blueberries!

Connie, you're third of a cup of blueberries has 5.5 net carbs.

LOL! I guess that explains my scale sticking to the number. I've been eating 1/3 cup of blueberries every night with a couple TBLS of heavy cream. It satisfies me and actually feels FULL & satisfied.

I'm attempting to reintroduce fish oil capsules into my day. Within 1.5 hours my stomach feels queasy. I take it after I have my protein replacement shake. My tummy is full with the shake. My thinking is if the tummy is full & coated, the fish oil should be alright. Maybe it's the ice tea with the fish oil. Lord, there's so many variables.

I baked my bacon for bacon, tomato, spinach salad with mayonnaise. Baking the bacon creates expertise crisp bacon. I LOVE it. I'm going to wait for another hour but it's ready.

I met another gentleman from a dating site today. Seriously, he plodded up to McDonalds, ; his shoulders droop, his clothes hadn't been laundered in several wearings, and he mumbled. He's my age. He didn't have any vim and vigor. He and I do have have art in common. He's taken many pictures of paintings in galleries. I didn't think we were suppose to use cameras in the museums. Maybe it's just cameras with flash. I was glad I got out of my house and it's always nice to meet a new person.

I putzed around this afternoon. I've been working on washing rugs. I usually hang them outside but the weather is so 'iffy'. I put them out, then bring them in. I had the day off from teaching so my arm & shoulder are very happy with me.

Tomorrow I teach only one class and that's the meditation, AiChai class. I'll sweat out a quart or two of fluid. The humidity is high but the sun hasn't been out for long so living in this house w/o a/c is tolerable. As soon as I finish this post, I'll put together my salad so it can sit and mingle for awhile. The a/c guy is suppose to come around 3:30 tomorrow. He said it will take 2.0-2.5 hours to install. Fingers crossed. It can't rain much because all the appointments before me are similar situations. It's outside work. If it pours rain, all appointments will be set back. Breathe in . . breathe out. I'm going to the basement after I make my salad. It's cooler there. The dehumidifier has been working double time.

Blessings to surround us. I'm always amazed at how fast the weeks speed by. YIPPEEEE!

LOL, Heidi! That sounds like a real Catch 22. Well, it's probably only a matter of months before Alaska joins the tidal wave. I'm sure someone has a suit pending in the state courts.

What is it with these stupid jobs? I had to write an analysis today of how we are to provide benefits to same-sex marriage spouses because the feds say so but AK doesn't recognize same-sex marriage. I feel like a dog chasing it's tail and have a headache to show for it.

James, I'm impressed- I was never a math wiz and struggle to figure that stuff out. I'll stay clear of blueberries except for special occasions- like maybe tonight, I feel a treat coming on.

Maw, did you get your hair cut?

I had some fresh raspberries last night. Swoon...

Quiet day at work today and I think it's because the two loud people in the front office are in a meeting somewhere. I hear a phone ringing but it's not on my desk!

Weekend is almost here! Feeling thinner the past week but the scale hasn't moved in 2 weeks! I hope it's just playing catch up. Energy is back again this week and started exercising now that I have the energy to move around. Today will be a late day at work so won't exercise today but hoping to hike over the weekend.

HOUNDLOVER1 (Birgit),

Raw coconut flakes are 7% net carbs, and strawberries are 6%.

Something I'm missing on the cereal box label. Where are the carbs coming from?

WOUBBIE,
Oh yah, I count digestible, or net carbs, I don't count fibre (technically a carb, but no calories, it is chemically inert).

That said, blueberries would have been even worse. 14% carbs by weight, but 2.4% fibre, so 14-2.4 is 11.6%. I said 12%

James, do you deduct the fiber from your percentage or just count the total carbohydrate?

Having a non-productive day. Again. I think that I'd better have something to show for my time by 4 o'clock!!! Time to go kick some paperwork butt!

I unfortunately need to be this careful with berries as well. I had 2 large strawberries last night with some coconut flakes and some coconut milk, total carbs at about 12 grams, and my blood sugar went almost to 130. That means if I want to eat that type of stuff I need to do strength training right after. It's frustrating sometimes, sigh!

Subject: weighing a blueberry

Breakfast included a dessert today. 100 g of Greek yogurt (3.4 g of carbs) a squirt of berry flavoured Mio mixed in and 10 (count 'em) blueberries.

Somehow a box of blueberries made it into my fridge. I have no idea how, and they break my 6% rule. Blueberries are 12% net carbs by weight.

It's tough weighing a blueberry, so I counted 100 berries, weighed them, 150 grams, that is 1.5 grams per berry, my 10 berries were then 15 grams, and 12% of that is 1.8, so a total of 3.4+1.8, or 5.2 grams of net carbs.

James
