Happy new year. I got a smoker for Christmas so I'm going to try to make my own beef jerky. Well hubby got the smoker but I have a feeling I'll be using it more. Day one low carb. I'm aiming to keep my carbs under 50 grams. That seems to be my happy number for losing.

Happy New Year! I'm starting off with a lunch worthy of Russell - chicken and mushrooms with some tomatoes (in the form of salsa)! Yum - stuffed now!

Hi, Phil! And a Happy New You Year to you, too!

I'm not much for "friending," but I hope to see you and interact with you on these threads. What I suggest you do is to hang out here, posting often yourself, and find some people whose attitude, philosophy, food plan, etc. you like. Then talk to them about doing some work together.

We do have a few people from overseas - mostly the British Isles - but I don't think we have any regulars from Costa Rica. Let us know what your special challenges there are, as well as the special things that make it easier.

Happy New Year Phil,

You are following an eating plan that is pretty close to my own. I'm just a little higher in protein from the sounds of it, about 70 grams a day, and though I don't avoid fat, and do indeed eat a fair bit of cheese and stuff like that, I'm not sure it is high fat.

Yes, carbs absolutely put you on a biochemical path where only more carbs will do. A vicious cycle. Sounds like you broke that cycle. Congratulations!

I suggest you track what you eat and drink. When I track I track calories, grams of fat, protein and carbs. Especially track your grams of carbs. Keep that low. In no time you have a nice list of things you like and things to avoid.

After 19 months of low carb I was still shocked at the percentage of carbs in cashews. They are off my list now. Plenty of other nuts are much lower in carbs.

Hi
Today is my second day on this site. Now that is a whoo-hoo :)
For me, new years is another day. My new years journey and commitment to a new me and a new lifestyle change was 9/13/13. I have been following a low carb high fat ( now moderate protein) quasi Atkins food plan for the last 13weeks.
My weight has slowly be coming off and I guess I am a turtle in that regards. My clothes are bagging and I do need to get all new pants and shirts YEAH ! The best part is that I have found emotional calm and lack of cravings. NOW that is a tremendous benefit. Carbs really do screw with one biochemistry and mind. So, easy does it~ one meal one day at a time.
The one caveat is I live in Costa Rica and would like to find some support buddies on this site to share this journey with ! SO, if you are interested PLEASE add me to a friends list.
Together we can do what we cannot do alone !

A HAPPY NEW YOU YEAR
Phil
