Thanks for the idea, Nay! I may look into a timer - would it be bad if I put DH's lamp on a timer too? emoticon Sometimes he's the reason I don't get to sleep!

Forgot to do strength training last night, will aim for tonight. Got to bed on time. Food mostly OK but DH made broccoli cheese soup for supper while I was at the dentist and I'm not entirely sure what he put in it - milk for sure and maybe flour so not sure on carbs. But for once, no cheating with sugary stuff.

25 minute walk by the river, and 43 NC yesterday. Check and check. Carbs kind of got away from me early in the day, and I had to eat straight chicken for dinner to keep it under 50.

Tuesday:

1) Food - did great until I got home tonight and was hungry... :(
2) Fitness - worked out this morning and took Chaser for a short walk just after lunch
3) Self-care - blocked out this evening and came home from work and puttered around on my dinner, Chaser's dinner, bathing Chaser (much to his dismay), and making my lunch. No pressure of client stuff!! I think this might be what "normal" feels like!

Tuesday, no check.

Work: Stayed at least 20 minutes late for really no good reason. I did spend about 10 of those minutes updating my checkbook, which I don't begrudge the time for, but the other 10 were me trying to finish up "just one more thing!"

Exercise: Better. Actually went walking a couple of times today. Still need to do some weights at home, though.

Bedtime. Sheesh, I'm already tired, should get to bed on time for a change. We'll see. EDIT: I did finally get to bed by 11:30, but it was a near thing....

I'm more and more sure that I'll be working on these same three for a couple more months at the minimum!

I was in bed early last night, to read. And planned to turn out the light on time. 15 minutes past that time I looked at the clock and realized I missed it again. Maybe I need to set my timer! Food wasn't too bad yesterday though. Planning on doing one of my two strength training sessions tonight.

Youdidit, I was just messing with you. Heck, it didn't register that I could make my own kraut and probably because of fear. This went on for decades. So you have years to come around yet. No rush. LOL.

You beat me to it on the roasted garlic. At one time I even had the clay baker but didn't work for me. I think I tried it once and didn't do it right and gave up. Now I don't have the clay baker with me due to moving. I also put garlic in the kraut so that will save me time and trouble of getting to the garlic.

Yay, I made it through Monday one more time! LOL

1) Food - not too bad at all.
2) Fitness - nope, just a short stroll with Chaser before lunch.
3) Self-care - got out an ink pen today and blocked out Tuesday evening, Friday evening, and Saturday afternoon/evening - I am not booking client work, chores, or anything for that time! I scheduled a catch-up dinner with a good friend for Thursday night, and feel like I might have an almost-balanced week ahead of me.

Rats! I need to exercise before I go to bed. But I did the veggie thing and the supplement thing, and I'll do my knee exercises before I go to bed. And if I don't, I'll feel guilty and won't be able to get to sleep so I'll have to get up and do them anyway. So I might as well just go ahead and do them and get it over with!

25 NC yesterday, and 15 minutes on the circuit, so check and check. I'd have done additional time on the bike, but the fitness club closes at 19:00 on Sunday, and my nephew was visiting, so I got there late.

Another 2 hours in the kitchen late at night after I've been studying all day. I forgot that I had thawed chicken livers that I had to cook last night. I still don't know why it takes 2 hours to cook the livers and prepare today's meals. After cooking, I partitioned out the livers into small Pyrex bowls to freeze. I got about 17 each 1 oz in weight. These are like multiple vitamins to me. They are organic from Wholefoods so they are quite expensive. I wish I could find a cheaper source as non-organic livers are dirt cheap.

When I first started eating low carb (about ten years ago!), I made "low carb" dishes from low carb books or web sites. Now I keep it simple. I mostly eat plain meat and plain veggies and simple salads. It's a lot easier and I like it just as well. I do make other things, too, like soup and quiche and, in the summer, casseroles of eggplant and zucchini to freeze for the summer. But mostly it's pretty simple.

NOWYOUDIDIT and BUDGETMAW,

Ever since I cut out the grains in Sep, I didn't realize how much of a challenge it has been for me with cooking. I'm trying out new things and made adjustments. I finally made the sauerkraut this weekend, twice! One on Sat night and one this afternoon. Originally I was going to make them last week as the red cabbage was bought a couple of weeks before and then I bought a green cabbage. The cabbages were piling up! Very discouraging despite spending all afternoon last Sun, I just couldn't keep up. Now that I've made it a total of three times, the fear and uncertainty can be removed.

I haven't bought takeouts or ready made frozen food since last Sep. So at least I have accomplished that much on the cooking front.

My menu is totally different now and I continue to make adjustments to them as I learned more. Hopefully, I'll do some blogs on my food items once I settled down.

Skater, the way we've been doing these monthly challenges is for each person to decide for herself (or occasionally himself!) what they (I know, bad grammar but a lot easier!) will work on for the month. I picked three things to work on - taking my pills and supplements as scheduled, eating at least two different veggies at lunch and at least two at supper, and doing some sort of very loosely defined exercise or activity. "Exercise" in this case, for me, for this challenge, is just being active and moving. It definitely doesn't mean strength training or cardio or anything like that!

Your goal might be to cook four times per week, or to take your lunch three times or whatever. It absolutely does NOT have to involve exercise in any way, shape or form!

Even if you don't want to commit to specific goals for the month, please keep posting here and telling us how you're doing!

Great challenge but I'll have to bow out for now and exercise when I can. Last Sunday was when I found out that either I under estimated the time it takes to cook, or I'm way too slow to keep up. I thought it wouldn't take long to cook chicken wings and a few other tasks. Instead it took me all afternoon. I ended up with 6 lbs of wings and got a few things done, but I lost the whole afternoon. Thus, don't even bother talking about exercise. I have trouble just keeping up with the chores.

So I'll have to see where my cooking takes me and come up with another exercise plan.

Missed a couple days here!

Friday: came home and did a face plant - long week. Don't remember what I did!

Saturday:
1) Food - not so great. A friend and I threw a party at her house and I did not eat ideally...
2) Fitness - nothing. It was raining sideways and at high velocity so neither Chaser or I did anything that remotely resembled exercise.
3) Self-care - started defining some boundaries with well-intentioned but ignorant friends (one is trying to convert me into an extrovert and I am NOT an extrovert), did the necessities and nothing else, got in some quality relaxing and lounging, and socialized with good people.

Sunday:
1) Food - not great but not bad either
2) Fitness - yup! Did 35 minutes on my ski machine, crunches on my stability ball, and walked Chaser at a fast pace due to the fact that it was drizzling and he was motivated to get back to the car as fast as his little body could get there!
3) Self-care - started a project I've been dawdling on (setting up the accounting for my women's investment club), journaled, relaxed, did some mental processing (need to make more time for that), and generally feel like I had a real weekend.

Still on track to average 10,000 steps/day. Had two days this week that I just couldn't get out, but still managed an average of 12,300/day for the week.

Our local Mexican restaurant is a real challenge for me. The kids' sports teams routinely gather there for the great, inexpensive food and excellent service for large groups. It sure takes a lot of steps to overcome a night of tortillas and Mexican beer specials!!!

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.

Saturday was OK, could've done better, but could've done worse. Got the minimum of exercise, so check for that. Couldn't get sleepy, though, so was up until 1am. I slept in this morning, so technically got enough sleep, but I should've been in bed earlier. *shrugs* Meh.

I woke up early so I got up and went to the Y. And then found out they don't open until 8:00. Darn! I was sure they opened at 6:00 on both Saturday and Sunday. But I did some more work on my budget and got my 2014 transactions entered so it wasn't a complete waste of time. And I couldn't sleep anyway, so I might just as well get up. I did my knee exercises last night, though.

If you're not feeling good, or just starting out, don't knock yourself out and then don't beat yourself up- you only feel worse on both counts.

The BFF came over today- good Lord that gal moves slow. 1.5 hours to cover what I can do in 40 minutes. It was icy so it did slow me down a bit but she just dawdles! She says she does 25 laps around the ship when she's at work but I know her habits and I know she sleeps in so I'm thinking it physically impossible for het to do 25 laps. Anyhoo- H enjoyed being out and the fresh air was great. Did lower body again but need some upper body work.

I spent too much yesterday- theoretically I could live a month on just what is here. And yeah, I bought another magazine. I'm a periodical junkie. No check her.
Organized 2 kitchen cupboards today and finished the pantry- now, if only I had money to fill it back up again.

Worked 11 to 2 so no lunch so no veggies with lunch, but did have 2+ veggies for supper and am counting that. I had a late breakfast and early supper so am ok with no lunch. Occasionally!

"Exercise" was working at the library. It must have been exercise; I'm sure sore.

Took pills and supplements this morning and will this evening.

Yesterday not so good on food. Had supper at my brother and sister-in-law's house, was fine until she brought out Almond Patties (a Dutch treat). They were small, but I did have one. And a cookie later.

Today has started out well, although I woke up at my regular time and couldn't get back to sleep. I'll nap later maybe. I did my Leslie Sansone video this morning and a 20 minute resistance band Spark workout, so got my 2 strength training in for this week! Scale is starting to slowly move too. Need to continue to work on bedtime and no cheating.

Hope you feel better soon Colleen.

Don't forget the story of the tortoise and the hare, Cindy. Small steps are good. Just keep on making them.

Three checks for me.

Day 3 of low carb. Trying to walk for 30 minutes everyday plus strength train 3 days a week. When I feel better I'll increase my cardio to 45 minutes a day. I have a lung infection so may take a couple of weeks. I wonder why I ever gave up low carb.

No check for today already.

Work: Stayed 15 minutes late (on a Friday!!!!) to wrangle a cubic buttload of paper into drawers for the weekend.

Exercise: Sat at desk most of day, wrangling said paper. I did a couple of basic things, and I might get a little more in tonight.

Bedtime: I'll check back later and edit this. EDIT: Went to bed at 10:30. I was a tired pup.

I didn't feel good yesterday (or today for that matter) so I got some lower body work in but that was it before I went and lied down. Have an appointment this afternoon, a stop at the grocery for this weeks provisions and H O M E, where I'll remain until Monday morning. Except for dog walking.

Hub cooked what I told him, how I told him so food was good. Early bed was enforced do to the fact I felt like crap.

I spent NO money. I got some exercise and didn't really organize anything- 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

To jiggle or not to jiggle, is that a question?
