Welcome Colleen!

Yes Woubbie they still have greeters. Because I am so un-socialized working at home with very little contact with people other than those who stop by to tell me what to do (social workers); I enjoy a friendly Walmart greeter more than most! emoticon

Yeah, Colleen, I was really glad to see your name pop up on the New Members list (yes, I'm now the official team Greeter, just like the retirees at the front of Walmart - wait, does Walmart still even do that?)

Welcome back from the dark side Colleen! Why wait 4 more days? Start right now with what you have then make a list, provision up and run with it. Even if you plan on not going LC for NY and/or NY day, there's no reason you can't between now and then.

Brilliant Woubbie!

I'm just getting back to low carb. Its been about two years since I followed a lower carb eating plan. Starting January 1 I'm starting again.

OK, here's what I have in mind. Two separate challenges this month.

1) I'll post a thread announcing the FlyLady challenge, with a thorough explanation of how to do it.

1a) Every day I'll post a new FlyLady thread with the day's task/challenge etc.; we can check in there to say if we've done it, are going to do it, or won't need to do it, etc.

2) We'll have our usual make-your-own-challenge thread. My theme suggestion for January is streaks.

I'd love a tip a day- maybe we can post a tip of our own as well- it could be on any topic, whether it be what to clean with, like if FL said do windows, a green tip would be use white vinegar to do it. Now we mentioned white vinegar, another use would be refrigerator pickles to preserve vegetables from going south before you can eat them... Just a thought- I think of things when I'm alone emoticon

I agree with James. Start slowly as you wait!

I'd love to see FlyLady's tips too!

I have no clue or ideas. LOL! I lost it from the day after Thanksgiving to the week before Christmas!! Oddly thank goodness! I did maintain my weight loss- but I ate cra*p. Back on track after a week of detox!

My browser opened in the middle of the thread, and the first thing I saw was something about 31 tips. I thought it was 31 low carb tips, which would be great! I wonder if there is such a thing, or if we could put one together?

LITHGIRL,
I see your January goal is to eliminate carbs when that book arrives. To lessen the shock I suggest you reduce the carbs before that. I think it makes life easier.

I suggest
- no soft drinks with sugar
- no pasta
- limited bread, like a slice, or at most two per day
- limited rice or potatoes

Rather than just cutting things out ahead of time, cut your portions of carby things 1/2 or 1/3 to what you usually take.

James

I would love the 31 tips too. I used to get Flylady's emails in a digest form so just 1 per day which was manageable. But then there was some sort of change in the email process and I was unsubscribed and never bothered to figure out how to get the emails again just once per day. For being a declutterer, her website always seemed too busy to me so I don't really like going there. I have the basic principles down, I just need to do them. One of my other things to focus on in 2014 is budgeting. As in, I have a budget but I think nothing of letting my virtual envelopes go in the negative, knowing that other envelopes have enough so I'm not overdrawn. I'm still thinking about the best way to go about this. I may have to go back to real envelopes for awhile or get DH more involved to hold me accountable.

One of the most important keys to Success is having the discipline to do what you know you should do, even when you don't feel like doing it. - Unknown

I think 31 steps in 31 days is a grand idea. At the very least, it will give us ideas.

My birthday is on the 17th, so I had a goal of 185 by then, but I may hit it by New Year's, so I am hoping for 179.8 by February 1st.

So my goals for 1/14 are:

1) 179.8
2 ) exercise every day at least 30 minutes
3) try 4 new vegetables, to see if I like them and can add variety
4) NO cheats/stick to the plan.
5) Try to be nicer ( yearly goal ).. emoticon
6) Volunteer once a week

Amazing how little one can come up with, when you actually start writing down your goals.

Woubbie, I would like to see the Flylady steps too! I am pretty organized usually but could always use tips.

I need to really tighten up on the diet and exercise! I have not tracked at all lately, nor done any exercise. Thankfully, I am maintaining my weight, but want to be losing!

Woubbie, I would love it too!! I find her website very hard to navigate and the last time I signed up for emails I got buried.

I was reviewing some of my personal goals at work today (it was quiet and no one was there and I took a long break for my own mental health...) and it struck me that I have a lot of clothes I need to get rid of. I've moved stuff that doesn't fit to another room, but that's ridiculous! There's some stuff there that I really like, but if I shrink enough to wear them, I want new stuff. I realized today (only four years later) that all those clothes I've kept because I like them have the Toxic Job associated with them!! Why would I ever want to go backwards with that association??!

Anyway, I realized that I have some serious decluttering to do and it's time to get real about what I am keeping and why I'm keeping it. My home office is the "spare closest" and it needs me to kick some FlyLady a$$ on it!

Heidi, I was giving this some thought on the drive home. FlyLady has what she calls "31 Beginner Baby Steps". What if I post a daily thread with her step for the day and tips on some of the basics, like how to use her cleaning "zones" and such? That way an organizing challenge thread/s won't interfere with a health/wellness/weight control challenge thread.

I am very organized. I hate having to spend 10 minutes looking for the scissors because somebody didn't put them back where they belong.....and that is the secret. Everything has a place and all you do is return it when done. It is just as easy usually to put the scissors back in the drawer as it is to put them on the counter. How hard can it be????

First you need to get rid of what you don't need, like or use. Then put things where they are practical. Make a list of what you want to do the next day the eve before and discipline yourself to go do it. Like getting gas, going to the bank, etc. Also, only shop once a week. And ALWAYS take a list and stick to it. A few times I have found myself in the store with out my list and I just can't STAND it!! I KNOW I will forget something!!I hate being inconvenienced and to do it to myself is ridiculous!!

You can tell, I am into this! Saves time, money and frustration, just for a little planning. And is very satisfying to have all your ducks in a row.

Anyone given any thought to January? I know personally, I blew December BIG TIME, but am will to turn over a new leaf and not beat myself up over it-

My first goal is to not have to wear Spanx unless I want to because I'm cold.

Hub was being such a child on our Christmas that when I broke down and had to go buy him something, I got him a Wii- I had an ulterior motive though, you can get fitness games for it so I'm going to!

Second goal- Get ORGANIZED! Life is chaotic enough, I don't need to make it worse by being a spaz and not be able to find a belt (because I didn't put it away), run out of TP (because I didn't bother to make a list before the store), have to stop and get gas before work (because I was lazy the night before).

Any ideas?
