I think that we'll just have to hand me over to the zombies until I get home Wednesday... I'm doing the best I can with what's in front of me, but who can maintain patterns and preferences when travelling?!! The good news is that my cold is almost completely gone and I will be hitting the exercise again when I get home.

ZKP for the day - 3

I'll put everyone's points in a simple spreadsheet, if someone else will figure out how to post it. I think Woubbie had said something about setting up a site somewhere for it. Apparently Woubbie is extra busy these days. At least I hope that's all that's going on with her!

I'm traveling and everything 'normal' is out the window! Took the dogs to be boarded this morning, and nothing has felt normal since! Couldn't even remember my passwords once I got to the hotel (I'm in Seattle - flying out early tomorrow). No dog walk until Friday... I will make the best food choices possible, and activity will be limited to walking and schlepping my carry-on luggage.

"See" you guys, tomorrow!

Had a good day yesterday. Any day that the zombies don't appear has to be a good day, right?

Zombie Preparedness -
Saturday - ST - no
Saturday - Cardio - sort of, but not exactly. I'm giving myself a point anyway. I spent most of yesterday sorting books at the library. On my feet, pushing carts of books around, and sorting and moving books on the carts. At my wimpy levels, I'm calling it cardio!
Saturday - nutrition - yes

Other -
I didn't track my food the day that I spent all day at the Staff Day and then went out to dinner, but I did track it the rest of the week. Here are my results (averages for the 6 days):
Calories - 1563
Fat - 106 grams (61%)
Total carbs - 42
Protein - 113 grams
Fiber - 11 grams
Net carbs - 31 grams

Trends? Well, calories were a bit low. The highest was 1812 on Monday, and I had 2 days under 1350. Didn't do it intentionally. It just happened. Not saying it's good or bad, just noting it. Fiber was also a bit low - ranged from 8 to 13. And I "officiall" lost 2 pounds for the week. (My official weight is the average weight for the week, to try to even out daily fluctuations.) Last week I gained .9 pound, after losing 2.5 pounds the week before.

ZKP for Saturday - 2

Woubbie, should we send out the Zombie patrol for you?

None, though I was active enough with the Creepy Crawly Crafts program at the library that my leg was very sore. Does that count?

I'm making progress towards my goal of Onederland this month. Two days this week I was under 203! By fractions of a pound each time, but both were new lows. I'm headed in the right direction!

Had a new veggie - Pink Ear Mushrooms - that I got at the Farmers Market last week. Figured I'd better get with the program and eat them before I go to the market again tomorrow! They were good, a bit different than regular mushrooms though I can't say how (other than the color and the shape and the texture!) but I'm not sure how much of the goodness was due to the mushrooms and how much was due to the 3 tablespoons of butter I cooked them in!

ZKP for Wednesday - 1

Made good choices at the Staff Day yesterday and going out for dinner last night. Not nearly as much fat as usual, and probably not as much protein, either, and more carbs. But good choices given what was available. I came home after supper really craving protein, so I decided as I was driving in the garage what I could binge on and how I was going to do it. I would start by eating the third of pound of hamburger that was already cooked, then cook up a pound of hamburger that's thawing in the fridge, and divide it into thirds. I would eat one third at a time, with at least a 30 minute break between each third. This, I hoped, would give my body a chance to agree that it had had enough before I reached for the next bunch. Turns out I didn't do it after all. I finished up the third of a pound that was already cooked and was satisfied. It felt good to have a plan for controlling, to some extent, a potential protein binge.

I got a book of sayings about dieting, and one of this is that thin people eat until they are no longer hungry. Fat people eat until they are full. I don't know about most fat people or about thin people, but it sure applies to me! I know how it feels to be stuffed, but I'm not nearly as familiar with (concious of?) how it feels to be full, let alone how it feels to be no longer hungry!

Did the basic cardio, ST, and nutrition stuff Tuesday. Will be in an all day staff meeting at the library today. They are providing breakfast and lunch, and then I'm going out for supper with some friends. Will make the best choices available and not worry if it's not perfect.

I love this months challenge,

I took a long break from low carb over a year, i got so sick of eating low carb i just couldn't do it any more i've tested out a couple of different ways of eating in the past year. I will Amit low carb is really hard for me, I don't enjoy it. But it is the only way of eating that gets the scale moving without large amount of fitness ( 3 plus hours a day) So I'm trying to find a balance with my eating I think I have found a plan that works for me. It's a form of carb cycling, it will take longer to lose the weight than if I in Atkins. But I hope this way will keep me on track.
I'm following Chris Powells carb cycling solution. You eat low carb one day, that the following day is high carb. I did a blog about it awhile ago.
If your interested in the program. I'm changing it a bit from when I posted it. To tweak it for me.

Watched and did (is that the right verb?) a new exercise video - Suzanne Andrews Functional Fitness Brain Power. "Boost Your Memory, Increase Your Mental Alertness, Enhance Your Learning Ability." Pretty mild exercise, and about the only thing that boosts your brain power is the fact that you are moving a bit. That and standing there doing toe touches with our heads hanging down while the blood flows to our heads. If that's all it takes to get smarter, I'll just raise the foot of my bed a few inches and let the blood flow down all night!

Also, finished Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It, by Gary Taubes. Most of it is the same stuff I've heard in lots of other books, though I did find it interesting that he pulled in a bit of Paleo, too. There is so much crossover between low carb (like Atkins, etc.) and Paleo, though they approach the subject from different perspectives. Taubes does more to pull them together than any other book I can remember.

tracked food for week (actually 6 days, starting 10/1) - daily averages were
Calories - 1689
Fat - 116 grams (62%)
Total carbs - 41
Protein - 123
Fiber - 12
Net carbs 29
Didn't notice any particular trends or problems. Calories were a tad low, but that mostly comes from Monday, when I ate a bit less than usual, probably in reaction to the potluck picnic on Sunday. I have found that when I eat a lot one day I tend to eat less the next, without even trying to or meaning to. Used to be I often ate less on purpose, now it seems to just come naturally.

Total ZKP - 4

Hello everyone, hope zombies and non-zombies are having a great weekend. Kauai: finding it hard to stay focused on my post with your profile pic. :)

10/05 (Fri)
ST: Gym weights. As Mark S likes to say, life heavy stuff. Not only to improve my arms but to be able to lug things at zombies.
Cardio: Walking and Aquafit (do zombies swim? If so, I might have to aerobic them in the head with my high power water kick)
Eats: Ace.

Other points:
Trying new things: Aquafit was brand new, as was hanging out in the 'guy' testosteroney area of the gym. Yes, intimidating, but so is training for the post-apocalypse.

10/06 (Sat)
Strength: Does getting out of bed count?
Cardio: walked around/shopping/lugging stuff
Eats: so healthy, it's sickening

Other points (?):
Reading 'Wild' - a kicking story of a young women hiking all by herself on the Pacific Trail. Reading about lugging a 60/70 pound backpack over 17 miles a day, makes whining about my heavy gym bag seem almost petty.

Perusing Rob Wolff's website - especially the success stories. Wow. Talk about inspiring.

Yes, Kris, I'm definitely better today!! Kleenex consumption rate has dropped noticeably... :)

Survival Element Activities: (1 ZKP/each)
Friday - ST - nope
Friday - Cardio - nope
Friday - Dog walk - oh yes!
Friday - Food - reasonable under current conditions...

Can I get extra points for extreme sleeping?? :) I've been amazed at how well I've slept even with waking up every two hours due to sinus complications!

I'm almost giddy now that I see my old energy level coming back! Points schmoints - I've got my bounce back!!!!

Hadn't planned to go to the Farmers Market this morning, but figured I'd best get there while there were still some new things to eat. I planned to get delicata squash, loufah (yes, the stuff you wash yourself with, when it's old and dried, but it's apparently like a zucchini sort of thing when it's young), and water spinach. None of those were available. Apparently I should have gotten them last week or earlier. But I did get patsoy or something like that (an Oriental green that the farmer said was similar to mustard greens), fennel (both bulb and fronds) and pink ear mushrooms (and yes, they are pink!) Had the greens in a sort of chow mein type thing. I sauteed some leftover ham and some chopped onions in bacon grease, added the greens and some cooked spaghetti squash, and some coconut aminos, fish sauce and toasted sesame oil. Should have used some garlic and ginger but didn't think about it in time. Turned out ok. Not great, but ok.

Hi all! Didn't mean to go AWOL here, but something had to give this week! I too have been tracking my ZKP separately, but I'll have a total update for everyone later today. Been fussing over how best to track everyone's points. Should have a new post up around dinner time (EST).

Read 1 MDA post - 1 ZKP
Got 2 exercise DVDs from the library, but can't figure out how to use them - no ZKP, but maybe if the zombies know I can't even play a DVD they'll decide they don't want my brains?

Total ZKP for Friday - 4
