Simplemaw,
know that you are also setting an example for many of us. I'm taking small steps in the direction you are talking about by replacing half-and half with full-fat cream, cutting down dairy and increasing veggies and meat if I get hungry. emoticon
We need to talk with each other about what works and what doesn't and why. With so little research (in the form of large, well-controlled studies) on nutrition in general the more we can share our experiences the faster we can all learn.

Thanks, everyone. They said in the book to go tell someone (presumably so you can't back out!), and you're it. So far so good, though it's only been less than 20 hours so far! Actually, it's not all that far off from what I've been eating. But there's something about being told you mayn't do something, ya know?

Woubbie and MAW, my daughter and son-in-law did the Whole 30 in April and did it for 7 weeks and it was wonderful for them. It really got them on the right track. They are now following a Primal lifestyle and say they will never go back to SAD.

Can't wait to hear how it goes. I'd love for my niece and her husband to do the program. I think they'd love it!

Starting right...now! I'm going to do a Whole30. It's a very strict 30 day Paleo food plan that allows for no slips, no cheats, no exceptions. No dairy (except ghee and clarified butter). No grain. No legumes (except green beans, snow peas and sugar snap peas). No sweeteners of any kind, artificial or natural. No trying to recreate treats (like using coconut milk to make ice cream). Sounds downright healthy! And no weighing or measuring me for 30 days. I'll go put the cheese and cream and cottage cheese and yogurt in the outside freezer, move the sweeteners out to the garage, and I should be all set.

Actually, this should be a good time to do this. I'm eating mostly organic meats to make room in the freezers for the mostly organic pig I ordered, and there are scads and scads and scads of mostly organic veggies at the Farmers Market. And should be some mostly organic veggies ready in my garden, soon, too. So, all in all, a good time to start.

And I just saw a hummingbird in the garden out front, which must be a good omen, right?
