Yes but I love ya anyway! I wish I could be disgusted with pizza - it's always been my failing. Then again Canada isn't noted for their pizza - could be why you don't care

Your story of the treats in the lunch room reminded me of when I first started this diet a year ago and went to work and OMG, it was Pizza day. The smell almost made me vomit but I had to eat my lunch in there, so I moved all the boxes to the sink and shut all the lids on them. Someone commented about the boxes being on the sink, and I said "sorry, I didn't want to be tempted and the smell is enough, I don't have to look at it too", and continued to eat my salad and I felt very satisfied that I didn't touch any of that greezy, smelly pizza...even now, I really don't enjoy the taste of it anymore, I'd rather eat the salad..am I weird or what???? Now donuts and truffles, that's another story, I'd love to dive into those lol.

Yes, that is precisely why I rarely eat out! Most people seem to wear the gloves to keep their hands clean rather than the food. Also they will use cloths to wipe down the counter, their dirty hands and then use it to wipe off a cutting board they are going to reuse. I used to be picky but when I went to cooking school I became really picky! People are way dirtier than you could ever realize. Just the germs that are spread from cutting into an onion, orange or melon that most people wouldn't think to wash because they don't eat the outside. Makes you think!

I just finished reading and watching The Help. I won't be eating chocolate cream anything for a long time. In the story the maid made her boss a chocolate sh!t pie and then had the satisfaction of watching her eat it. If that won't keep you away...

Terri

No excuses. The next few seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years will go by no matter what.

Glad I could help! If you want me to share some stories about when I worked in a restaurant you'd never eat out again! Or there was that time I was at the deli counter and a clerk sneezed into her hand (at least she covered her mouth) but then never bothered changing those gloves they wear. Needless to say I left the cheese on the counter and told her I changed my mind LOL! I did go to the manager that time. I didn't specify who it was, but suggested they cover it in the next staff meeting.

If companies are concerned with the rising cost of health insurance and employee sick time why don't they just supply healthy snacks?

Thanks for the visuals Gabby...really! The thought of maggots makes my skin crawl, so now truffles=maggots...that just might get me through a future challenge!!! We have peanut m&m's in our team meeting room...always "just assume" that everyone has the same hygiene standards...mmm not so much, I guess! So gross to think about, but such a good deterrent!

Very good point, GABBY! I've thought of that frequently myself. Especially since most of the office has been spreading around the same cold/flu crud among themselves all winter long. I managed to avoid it for the past 2 years (well, until some sinus infection this week). Grrr!

I like the ant/maggot idea, too. Ewww!!!

Oh, yes... they are basically for employees (there's only a handful of us). I LOVE your washroom story -- ugh!

The place I work for supplies snacks for the employees, the cupcakes and ice cream were extra today. It usually doesn't appear all in one day and most weeks there are apples or oranges too. I like the maggot idea! We have been seeing ants the last few days and I just imagined ants crawling all over those cookies :o) I think next week I will pack some 1/2 cup containers of fat free frozen yogurt to keep in the freezer for emergencies like this!

@Julie - are the m&m's for customers or office workers? Good way to spread germs. I used the ladies room at BJ's the other day and saw a clerk leave the stall and go right out the door without washing her hands. I followed her towards a back room (after I washed my hands LOL) because I could see another worker prepping salad and was going to report her if she was handling food. Turned out ,it was also the break room and she was eating her own lunch with those hands - another ICK!

Point is - who knows where the hands have been that are dipping in and if you suggest to your supervisor that it's a good way to spread colds and flu, maybe they'll remove the candy jar. At the very least, ask that they put it in front of someone else's counter.

Aw geez. I HATE it when that happens! I also hate it when there is an endless supply of M&Ms that must be kept in our office on the counter in front of my face at all times. They tempt me and I'm not even particularly a chocolate lover! Hang in there!

emoticon Just remember all your NSV's (non scale victories) and successes so far. Remember what your strengths are and know that you have proven to yourself that you can resist. Reframe any negative self talk you may have like "Just one cookie won't hurt" to "Cookies aren't healthy for me right now. I am perfectly happy with my ______ that I brought to snack on". Other people have imagined maggots crawling around the food they wanted to resist. Imagine biting in to a truffle and finding bugs on the inside - ick!

Who brought them in anyway? Is it a birthday or a regular office thing?

I walked in the office kitchen this morning to heat up my oatmeal and found 4 different kinds of cookies from the bakery, a jar of Lindt truffles, a jar of chocolate covered almonds and homemade cupcakes with a sticky note saying the ice cream was in the freezer. Thank goodness I have my lunch packed in a insulated bag with ice packs today so I can keep it at my desk, but I will have to go in there to fill my water bottle and make my green tea for lunch. Come on 5pm!!!!
