Well, I didn't lose all 16lbs doing the 17DD, only 12 of them. However, I have learned a lot and I will be taking some of the principles I've learned with me (hot lemon water, more green tea!). I appreciate everyone's comments and concerns, and I realize I could differ up the food I'm eating, but this diet just takes too much time and effort. I work nearly an hour away from where I live, I work almost every single day, I don't get lunch breaks or even have anywhere to store food that I would bring. Fast food in town is a no-no, so I have to drive the almost hour long way home, get changed and clean, and then cook and waste more time. By the time I sit down to eat dinner it's generally almost 7 or later and I've had two meals for the whole day (breakfast and dinner). Since starting this diet I haven't had time to eat! Most days I'm lucky to hit 700 calories and I don't feel like that's safe, regardless of the results it brings.

:) I appreciate everyone's support and like I said, I wish you all the best of luck, but I just don't think this is right for me.

As long as you like the concoctions you make, they aren't weird.

Thanks, Gabby and Angel. You did make me think. I didn't realize eating fruit after 2 would slow my weight loss. My usual reason for doing it is time gets away from me and it's later than I realize. Maybe I'll try to work on getting my fruit in on time and see if my weight loss is any faster. I just went grocery shopping and bought some lean beef, low carb ketchup, and of course more lemons so I think I'm set again. And just finished my lunch of scrambled eggs with salsa and sauerkraut--weird I know but I really like it.

Again, I echo what Gabby just said and the congrats to KTIS also.
As for the fruit thing...Like Gabby said...if you eat your fruit after 2pm it slows down the process but shouldn't stop it.
I don't go for my lunch break until 2pm and I always have a yogurt with raspberries in it for my snack at that time.
And today, after being stalled for a week, I actually went down on the scale.

Please re-think, but if you decide to leave, I wish you all the best.

@KTIS - I'm so glad that you're sticking around. I see that you made the diet your own and realize that eating fruit or starches past 2pm is probably why you're losing slower but your body is showing results and you're feeling better. Thatr's what's important.
I read a story about a woman who was giving up on a diet because she didn't lose any weight according to the scale yet she dropped a whole size. The scale isn't accurate.

You're also right about food choices - time to change up what you're eating. There is absolutely no reason to be bored on this plan.C2 allows lean beef and pork every other day and C3 allows it every day. There is no food group that is eliminated on this plan. You're going to learn a lot about your body on your first journey through round one.

Your cruise is right around the corner and you'll be in great shape. Congratulations KTIS for having the committment to see it through.

YUMESTEFER, I had GREAT results just following the basic Spark People plan while logging their suggested food and exercises. You might find that a good plan to follow that doesn't feel as drastic to you. It was just after being "stuck" for 2-1/2 years (even while continuing my exercise and healthy eating) that I decided I needed to try something different. I don't think I could do 17DD for an extended period, but it's given me the jump start I needed to get things moving again. I wish you the best with whatever you choose to do!

am at exactly the same place as you datewise. I am also the same in that I gained a little when I started cycle 2 and it discouraged me too. Your posting gave me some insight though. I too am kind of getting sick of eating grilled chicken salads and since I'm not a great lover of fish, I mean really getting sick of chicken salads. But as someone who isn't a big meat eater but a big exerciser, I've come to realize my body needs the protein I wasn't giving it when I was loading up on the carbs. But the bottom line is, I've lost weight on this where I usually don't, I feel so much better, I'm finding that my belly is getting smaller so I guess I'm deciding the diet is working and that maybe just that the big loss and honeymoon is over.
What I've decided to do to fix all this is to get more creative in what I'm eating. Also, I will admit to you that I often break some little rules because this is my life and my eating plan so yes, I do often eat my fruit after 2 and will sometimes eat my carbs after 2 also. I'm going on a cruise in 2 1/2 weeks and yep, I imagine I will have a few desserts and drinks but also I will remember that I can make good choices and maybe have the dessert but not the rolls and maybe 1 drink not 5. I guess what I'm saying is I think 17DD is great and I'm not going to let the little things that happen take me away. Maybe just a thought, make the 17DD your own and if you need to eat your fruit later, do it. I figure much better than eating a piece of cheesecake at night. I don't think any of us got where we are by ODing on fruit. Well I think you've gotten lots of food for thought so you can make the best decision for you but whatever you decide, you will be moving forth with a huge loss and you can always decide later to return to 17DD. Best of luck to you on your journey and like the others said, come back and check in anytime. emoticon

Thank you for posting this. I just got home last night from more than a week away. Sometimes it helps me to hear someone else's take to help me pinpoint what I am thinking. I cannot believe that I gained absolutely no weight while away and eating out often. It is because I was on cycle 3 of round 3 and everything really was in my head about how to handle everything. No measuring, counting points, etc. Of course I had to eat healthy starches after 2 what with going out with others. I was positive I would have gained some weight.

So, I am sure there may be some people for whom this plan is not ideal for reasons specific to them. However, I do remember that it was not until I hit cycle 3 the first round, that I really understood my body's reactions.

My advice (unsolicited, I acknowledge) would be to average the weight loss per week and then see what you think. Also, just see if you are feeling any better than before you began (other than the boredom).

No matter what you decide (and really we each make our own decisions and need to know ourselves), I wish you only the best.

Good luck on your journey.

Again, thank you for your post.

This is disappointing - especially after you have already lost 16 pounds! The body is a master of healing - all we have to do is give it what it needs to function with utmost efficiency - and then stand back and watch it heal!!! Along the way we learn what DOESN'T work! I.e., I am extremely gluten and carbohydrate sensitive, so I will have to do without products containing gluten or processed wheat products for the rest of my life. So? I deal -and create a work-around......I'm not alone either - many of us have learned that we have to modify as needed.
The proof of my pudding? (pardon the pun): no more heart meds, no more A-fib symptoms; chem numbers of a 20 year old (I'm 70).

So - please rethink this - you might just be short changing yourself big time by quitting now.

Okay - I'm done ........{{{hugs to you}}}}}. Hope to see that you have changed your mind.

Here is my two cents...When I found the 17DD article in Woman's World Weekly, I was so happy. Here was a plan the allowed me to eat food I liked and not feel deprived. I rushed out to get the book and studied it thoroughly. I took the principles of this plan and fit them into my lifestyle and 60+ lbs later, I am still loving it. I may not be as diligent in following the cycles but it is still working for me. I guess it helps that I decided that I will eat to live and have sustenance. I know this is not for everyone but from what I see of your time on the plan , you have done pretty good. I agree with the ladies on the measurements too. Since Jan 1' I have not lost any weight but my clothes are fitting looser in the hips and thighs I wish you the best whatever you chose. Oh yeah, the 2pm thing does not fit in my lifestyle either so I make adjustments accordingly.

I echo LSG when she says she is sorry that you are leaving and that this didn't fit your lifestyle. I am really surprised that you are not going to finish the 3 cycles to see where it is that you are having trouble.
I myself love cycle 2 as I get to confuse my body and get to mix things up a little. The best is yet to come when you get to cycle 3...you then get some treats added back in.

I also agree with LSG about the measuring. You may be going up in weight a little, but how do your clothes fit? Have you measured yourself at all...in the beginning and now??? I lost about nearly 10" in total on c1 and c2 when I first started this diet.
I have gone from a size 22 pant to a size 11. I don't even exercise...so that is just the fat melting off me and trust me...I don't go hungry and I don't get bored.

I wish you would re-think this and at least stay until you finish all 3 cycles. But if you decide to leave, then I wish you all the luck in the world when you find a diet that you can call your own. Good luck and please pop back in now and then and let us know how you are doing.

So sorry it didn't fit your lifestyle. :(

You'll see that it is suggested to eat something like a potato before 2 for best results but it's not a "requirement". It just says to do that for best results. That is why over and over we suggest reading/re-reading the book.

And our bodies aren't perfect. There are day I go up and there are days I go down. That is why we also suggest to not use the scale as your only guide. Take measurements, journal, reflect.

Right now I'm going up. But my body cycle is every month shows that up. That is why it's not a quick fix. You learn about your body.

I wish you luck in your weight loss goals!

PS as for boring food choices, personally I have learned to cook things I never would have tried and I like them. My meals are only boring when I don't seek out new ideas.

This diet is just not what I had hoped it would be. Since starting cycle 2 (and this would be day 6) I have gained weight. I have been patient. I have been diligent. I have been completely bored with my food choices for nearly 23 days, and though I did get good results to begin with, there is definitely more to life than feeling guilty for having fruit or a potato after 2 P.M. I think, in all honesty, that I will get better results and be more satisfied doing something else.
Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement. I wish the rest of you luck with your 17DD journey!
