Doing well. Today is the third day of cycle 1 for me. I'm dealing with some water weight from two days back. Got up at least 8 times last night so hopefully that will begin to reflect on the scale. I'm only down 2/10 today but hope for a big loss tomorrow. The cravings are gone again (after just 2 days) I love this diet! Today is a busy one with tennis in the morning and a field trip with my oldest grand girl. I have to find time to work, meditate, and play in between all of that.

Keeping on track for C3 but scale still not losing. Heading off to the woods for the weekend so I won't be on the boards until Monday night so until then have a wonderful, on track weekend and enjoy the time off and break from routine.

I too have learned that alcohol messes with your metabolism. I love beer and gave it up when I first started, then came St. Patrick's Day and I had a Guiness (or two) and as enjoyable as that was it set me back a week. I like a glass of red wine now and then with the right meal and that will do the same thing for me- lose a week's progress. Now I've told myself that nothing is off limits for me. I cannot make this a life change if I deny myself the things I truly enjoy so I just look at it as make choices. Right now, getting to my goal is more important than a beer or glass of wine. I might think differently after mowing the lawn on a really hot day. Every day - more choices. I think if you don't deny yourself anything but ask yourself what's important right now, you will be able to live with yourself and make good choices. I do have a couple of cold ones in the fridge. Not so much to tempt me as to let me know I can if I choose! - works for me.

'To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.' - adaptation of a poem originally published by Bessie Stanley

You really are not supposed to have it until C3 and then only 5 ounces a night. You are losing weight so if you decide to keep drinking it, you will probably continue to lose. You would just lose more if you gave it up. It might be too much for you to give it up and to do the diet at the same time. Only you know the answer to what your body can handle. I used to drink red wine every night with my dinner. I was so excited to add it back in when I got to c3 round 1. You can not imagine how shocked I was to not lose a single ounce for a week after that glass of red. I've tried having a little a couple of times since and each time it sets me back an entire week. The last time I had a tiny bit was in March on my trip.

Have you ever heard the saying that you are allergic to the things that you crave? I believe that it is true for me. I love chocolate...it gives me a headache, I love walnuts....they give me sores under my tongue....I love wine....it messes with my metabolism.

Of course as in all things, you will have to figure out what works for you and I wish you only success.

To dare is to lose one's footing temporarily, Not to dare is to lose oneself. -Kierkegaard

He doesn't say NO wine, he says from my understanding limit especially in C1 but if you do have wine make sure you drink extra water.

Wine isn't a problem for me. I enjoy it, a single glass in the evening.

I am for now though not going to have it nightly. But even with a weekly glass of wine, I am still on the 17 day diet.

I'm so glad that you are down 7 lbs. It can't be called the 17 day diet if you are drinking wine on cycle 1.

17 days is nothing if we are talking about the rest of your life. If you are serious about this diet then do the 17 days without wine. If you can't go 17 days without wine it may indicate a problem. Only you know if you have a problem with alcohol or not, but you owe it to yourself to give this diet a 100% chance of changing your life.

We all have issues or we wouldn't be overweight so please don't see this as a criticism, I'm just giving you feedback. Everything that you read for yourself, a dozen or a thousand other people read and say Yep, that's me. I'm hoping that you will take this feedback and think about your health and your life and decide if it's worth 100% effort. I think you are worth it.

Day 4 and doing pretty good. I have gone off a little bit. A friend brought me venison yesterday and I have not ate that in years, so did eat some.
I also enjoy my glass of wine in the evening, trying to keep it to just one. :)
BUT I got on the scales this morning and it says I am down 7 lbs. I hope that stays off, I'm sure most is water weight right now but I will take it. 7lbs in 4 days WHOO HOO

RubyTuesday: Monday went well, yes I made the vegetable soup but I kinda had to force myself cause I wasn't super hungry at the time, but I know that if I skip a meal or get too low on calories that will sabotage the plan. I'll keep everything the same today. Love the weekdays!
Good luck to everyone just starting off on 17dd, I've really liked it and hope it works for you too.

Official Day one is today, much harder to adapt a new diet on a hectic weekend. Very much on track and feel really great! Getting in two 15 minute power walks on my breaks at work this evening and starting back up day 1 of C25K tonight when I get home as well. I really enjoy the C25K with it's daily challenges and then with the constant change of 17DD I think I have just the right tools to meet my goals by my 24th birthday in October :) 5 Month countdown began 10 days ago to reach those goals and so far I am 3 lbs into it!

yes. yay! I made it through my first weekend of 17DD, am now on day 8, and have not slipped at all. And I went out to dinner in new orleans, not so easy peasy :) I'm looking forward to being able to eat a few grains in 10 more days...but thanks to you all suggesting it, I did also take measurements (with a paper printout of a measuring tape, in my office!).

Monday, here we go! Starting off on the right track, planning to stay on track all day. Looking forward to vegetable soup tonight for dinner. I've got to write that down here because by the time dinner rolls around I forget about making the vegetable soup. I really like it, I just forget that I want to make it by the time the afternoon comes, must be losing brain cells during the day for some reason. But if I write it down here then I will.
Have a great day everyone!

Well, it is Monday. The weekend was not a success with the eating plan. We were so busy with home projects that I did not plan any meal and before I knew it we were eating junk. Then I baked for the school bake sale and had to taste them. UGH.

Well, Monday brings a new start. I guess I am going to say I am on Day 5, C1 since I am not counting the two days.

I had my egg and orange for breakfast. Turkey wraps with cucumber. Green peppers to munch on and for dinner it is going to be salmon.

I am in C1 D2, and it is my late afternoon time to be tempted. So I am logging here instead. I am on track today, and trying to figure out a good snack. Too late for fruit, and I am in a carb crave. Guess I will go find a veggie instead, or wrap some shaved turkey in a lettuce leaf. Oh! good idea! See yah!

I made it into Cycle 3 yesterday - it was viking_dude's birthday, we had a blue cheese souffle and salad for dinner, then an apple-cake thing for dessert (he cut me a very appropriate slice, shared with his family and then took the rest home to enjoy himself LOL)

I ate waaay too much salt/salty food this weekend (quilt retreat) and wasn't able to balance it out with fresh produce and water (poor planning on my part) so the scale is reflecting that right now. I will still say that it is difficult to deal with food 'saboteurs' still, people who push food with guilt - but I was able to keep myself focused for the most part.

I'm definitely on track with my plan for the week, no so much on track to meet my 10% challenge goal or my End Of Round 5 goal, but I'm good with that - it will all come off eventually.

Have a good day everyone!

This is R3, C2, D1 and I only lost 2.2 lbs on C1. It was my own fault. It would have been a total of 3.6 lbs, but I chose to have a great weekend, along with a few alcoholic drinks, and it caught up with me. I'm trying not to let it get me down. I struggled some this round with C1. I guess at least I didn't make bad choices on the food also. I'll keep swimming! It is good to log it here, though.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life! Michelle

Day 4 of Cycle 1 and feeling pretty good. Someone brought in a box of chocolates. I caved and had two! I ended up putting gum in my mouth so I would not go back. Ugh.

I have my good stuff packed for lunch today: turkey and lettuce for a wrap. Fruit and yogurt for a snack. Had eggs for breakfast. Not sure what dinner will bring.

Lost a couple of pounds since Monday and have gotten some cardio in each day. Not bad. Have my chicken, cucumbers, and fruit packed for lunch. Dinner is going to be salmon and veggies.

Gentle reader: I always save a greek yogurt for night time snack. Not sure if I should eat it at 8pm but that is sometimes when my kids want a snack and instead of ice cream I grab the greek yogurt. I buy the Oikos brand and love, love, love the Key Lime Pie flavor. It tastes like pie and is really creamy.

I also know bananas are not on the cycle 1, but sometimes that is my go to for breakfast since I can only tolerate eggs and a smoothie for so long.

On day 9 here. I've been good, which is different for me. On WW, I gained and lost the same five pounds over the last year, but this has been easier (lol) because I've basically stuck to the same foods/type of foods and cling to protein like a life raft.

I'm down 10 lbs. since I started D1 C1 last Monday, and am enthusiastic enough to fear even the small bite of sugar or bread, like I'll gain it all back the minute I do. That may be a challenge for me going into the other cycles, but it's good to know I CAN do this cycle if I need to, I just need to keep the willpower up to not slide when I can have more carbs.

Day 7. I didn't do well last night, seems to be my weak hours, but I'm back to it today. Over all I feel like I'm sticking to it pretty well. Still no crazy hunger or cravings.

Gretch: I'm impressed you only regained 5 lbs after all that time! I guess it's a testament to your ingrained habits. Good for you though, for getting back on the horse, so to speak.

OK, I have been off of this blog for so long and I am not going to give any excuses... Only to say tax season came and and went and so did my 17DD. I started the 17DD back in September of last year and lost 22 lbs. overall. I have not been totally into it since after the holidays and would start and then stop and start and stop. I am now up about 5 lbs. A few cheats here and there turned into eating potato chips after the kids went to bed, having ice cream because it was there - yada, yada, yada.

Today is a new day: I am at Day 1, Cycle 1. I had my yogurt and fruit for breakfast and chicken breast and salad for lunch. I know this diet works. It is all about planning. I love the support of this blog and will make sure I check in everyday. It makes you more accountable. I am going to get my 45-60 min walk in after work since it looks like a beautiful day here in Northern IL.

New week is here. I had a really good last week. I'm actually staying pretty much on C3 which is working for me. I took a couple days off exercise which I needed, except for a 2.4 mile walk on Saturday. Now back to the grind aka Y today and hoping for another good week for all of us. We can do it, team! Also, it seems so nice to have some new, enthusiastic team members with us so in case I didn't tell you personally, welcome and I'm glad you're here!

I had a few splurges this weekend. I'm not going to call them slip ups because I chose them and when I was going to have them. I'm on C1 and had a few glasses of wine Saturday, a glass of champagne today, along with one white chocolate covered strawberry. It was all worth it, and I'm back on track!

Today is the first day of the rest of my life! Michelle

good point about the playground. We did that the other day, but I wasn't as active as I could have been. I think we'll go again today and I'll try to join in the fun.

I can and I will.

I had another bit of a slip yesterday but I was expecting it so I am not too down about it.

Reader, if you aren't hungry then you must be doing this right. You shouldn't be getting hungry but eating just enough and often enough to not get hungry. I also still struggle with getting the exercise in. You could always take your daughter to the playground everyday and follow her around and that will give you a good start.

No excuses. The next few seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years will go by no matter what.

I'm still hanging in there. I'm pretty sure I must be doing it wrong though -- I'm not hungry ever and I'm only having one or two cravings. I'm on track other than exercise. Still getting over being sick.

I can and I will.

Today's my real day 5. Still hanging in. A lot of cravings popped up today -- my daughter gets to eat junk on Saturdays, so she had chinese food and choco tacos. It all looked so tasty. I got through it though, at least to this point. It's not quite bed time and I'm still hankering for something sweet. Still - Day 5. Rah!

I can and I will.

Day 4 for me and still doing well. I had a tough choice to make today and I ended up eating a half of a small piece of pita, but I don't feel it ruined me. I'll just try to better prepared next time I go out. Otherwise pretty good day!

*oops, it's day five for me, I guess. Good thing I've been writing down my food intake. That's sort of how I'm keeping track. I guess I could put it on my calendar.

NYM, I had to LOL about your comment on the tearful reunion with your treadmill; I can totally relate and that is why I keep putting mine off!

Fearless, I had to look up your recipe and it sounds flavourful. The more flavour the easier it is to keep eating chicken - I will add that to recipes to keep the variety there. For your meals just look for the healthiest protein and veg and remember the 3 bite rule.

Yesterday I slipped a bit and had some dark chocolate (probably only .5 ounce), and a bit of trail mix (at least 2 tbsp). TOM is on it's way so it could have been worse.

We had 3 birthdays in the last 2 weeks, it's our 23rd anniversary today and Mother's day on Sunday. DH wanted to go for a nice dinner tomorrow to celebrate everything at once because we have been so busy lately to do it any other time. After going on line and checking out the menus of the nice restaurants I decided they just don't fit with what I want to do eating wise right now. If I am going to pay $20 - $30 for an entree I want more than a chicken breast and salad but I am not willing to sacrifice my eating either. I am too weak right now and would be too tempted by what others would be ordering and dessert and wine etc. I made an executive decision and we will do something nice at home where I can control the temptations.

Terri

I've been on track the past two days (just starting cycle 1 again) but I'm dreading the weekend... tomorrow I have a brunch AND a dinner & birthday party! Going to have to find some way to make sure tomorrow isn't a complete write-off!

Today's doing well so far though! Had eggs for breakfast, and I'm currently making some shish taouk to put on my salad for lunch :)
