Shelzy,
I saw your question about maybe too many vegetables slowing down your loss and I would say a big "no way" to that one. I don't think you can over do on veggies, well unless you are eating fried ones lol. What could happen though is veggies are bulk and although I know they say veggies keep things "moving", for some reason that isn't always the case with me and everything in your body weight right? But it will come off. Also, you said you didn't feel like you've lost weight. It's hard to say until you weigh and there again even if you don't show a loss on the scale, maybe you're like me. My body doesn't show weight loss in a timely fashion. What I mean is I do really well and no loss, so in the past I'd start cheating and then lose weight. I have learned that my body must hold onto extra fluid for a while. The bottom line is keep doing what is right and the 17DD WILL work. And watch for other non scale victories, feeling better, more energy, better moods, clothes getting loser, etc.

And Sam, don't beat yourself up. Yesterday is history and sounds like you're right back on track. No big deal, especially in the long run. We're in this for life, this isn't just a temporary diet, it's our new lifestyle. remember that.

And JNC, you're back in the groove. So nice to have you back!

I hate to admit this but I broke down last night. I ate chocolate I had stashed in the freezer. Not to make an excuse for myself, but I do have my period so the cravings are more intense. I have tried given suggestions such as tea, gum, but it just wasn't hitting the spot. I'm ready to get back on track with C1 D4 today.

R3C1D5 Done! Had a good day today. Haven't weighed but I really don't feel like I have lost anything yet. Well, since Monday. Now, I know why I'm not letting myself weigh everyday. Besides missing breakfast yesterday, I have been 100% compliant. Only a pinch of salt a day, 2 liters of water, and I only use a very small amount of parmesan cheese when I use cheese. I used the fat free shredded cheese the last time. I think I ate too much cheese on Round 2 and that was why I wasn't losing. I'm praying for some more lbs lost on Monday.

Day 3 Cycle 1. Staying on track I think, but sure don't feel like I've lost any weight. Just a few ounces would make me feel better. I'm wondering if I could be overdoing it on the veggies? any comments?

R1C1D13...Feeling great except I bought doughnuts for the kids and they are taunting me. I love doughnuts....uggghh. So far the self control has help...about to have some greek yogurt with cinnamon and truvia. I worked over night and haven't been to bed yet...usually I come home and crash but didn't for some reason. I eat overnight like it is my day so today I didn't eat a lot...small snacks here and there to keep my metabolism going. For dinner, I was very hungry though and ate two bowls of turkey taco salad with salsa. It hit the spot! I am going to wait to weigh in on Monday which will be the begginning of cycle 2.

Hi everyone!
Moving through (mostly) 17DD (since August 2011) .... have added running in the last 3 weeks and while the scale continues to move ever-so-slowly, I'm feeling great - more endurance and stamina. Trying to eat very closely on C1 this week, as I'm heading out of town next week and know that I'm going to go off plan a bit. But I'll get in some good walks/runs and swimming so hopefully that will offset the feeding frenzy. Funny - there have been a few times in the past several months where I've had the opportunity to eat as I used to (large quantities, fried food) and I just don't overindulge anymore. Things have shifted and that feels great.

Have a great day everyone! Hang in there, Jenn! You can do the detox!

Camille- I am doing the C25K with the 17DD too! I need to go out for my walk/run today. I am thinking the combo will be great.

I'm on Cy1Day11 first round- Last night at work, I struggled!!! I had an oreo type vanilla cookie and two swedish fish. Dang it! I don't have that stuff at home but b/c it was there in front of me I couldn't resist. So far today, I have had 2 eggs with a cup of strawberries for breakfast, chicken veggie soup and a salad for lunch. I haven't had any green tea yet today and am hating on that lemon water...ick. I am still drinking one cup of coffee a day and 1-2 diet dr peppers. I am not ready to give those up but am balancing it out with plenty of water.

Jenny - caffeine withdrawal does give fairly severe headaches.....use decaf (that has three percent caffeine) to wean off.

If you make one small change a day, you'll be totally on program in no time.

BTW - you'd be surprised how much you really don't need processed carbs after those protein levels come up!! :-))

HI LADIES! I wanted to say hello! I am slowly easing myself back in...with a mixture of juicing in the morning- a healthy snack of greek yogurt and berries or some nuts and basic 17 Day Diet principles. no sugar, no carbs- I will allow myself whole grain gluten free or sprouted but occassionally.

I am also trying to wean off coffee! EKKK I already have an early headache- not sure why but may be a mixture of the no coffee ...WOW WHO KNEW IT COULD BE THAT BAD??

BE WELL!

R3C1D2 Check emoticon No detox headache today. Thank you Lord! I'm hoping it will stay away. No problem with my food, water, or green tea intake today. I do so much better with my meal plan laid out for me. I also did the Chicken Vegetable Soup recipe from the 17DD book. I put it in the crock pot this time and YUMMY!!!! My husband the chef even loved it. I start the C25K tomorrow. I lost the most weight doing the 17DD and the C25K together the last time. The weight just seemed to melt off. Anyways, time for bed. Goodnight Everyone!!!

Swimming added back into my exercise program!

I started getting bored with the treadmill on week days, the bike bath on Saturday and the beach walk on Sunday - so!! Yesterday I swam in the huge Olympic pool at the Y......what a refreshing change (in more ways than one!).

The pool was set up yesterday so that the lanes were across instead of full length - at first (oh arrogant me) thought - hmmmmmmm, "I'll need to do forty of those to see any result". NOT!! That pool is huge! It only takes three of the width lanes to measure out to the full length of the pool (I found out later)......so I was very pleasantly surprised that the width wise gave me plenty of room, plenty of distance and plenty of challenge! Gratifying too that I completed a full hour workout at an average heart rate of 116 bpm (yes, I wore my Polar monitor in the pool).

So - variation is the key, I guess - great weekend so far. The sun is just coming up and the weather is just clearing up (it rains overnight here), so beach walk today, followed by a Mahi Mahi lunch with a friend!

@Colibri1 - Congrats!! on catching yourself!! It's so easy to make a small adjustment before it becomes a huge issue......good on ya!!

Dr. Mike recommends just what you're doing: "if you see a 2-5 pound gain....go back to C1".

Tis what makes this way of doing things so successful. Nothing is forever and the fixes are easily accessible!!

Take some time to sit down and do a re-read - it's amazing what we pick up the second time around!

R3C1D1 Done!!!! I am still a little shocked at how much weight I gained in two months. I wish I could blame it solely on the the hormones and supression shots that I was on. I'm sure that counts for a small portion of it but most of it was of my doing. I have 22.6 lbs to get to my original weight goal. I have no fear of failure because I know I can do it. I'll just take it one day at a time and give myself no room for failure.

Cy1 Day 9...I worked overnight so that is always a challenge. I took a bunch of snacks and foods bc I find I want to snack to stay awake. I took more fruits than veggies for some reason...poor planning. I was glad that I made healthy choices all night and stayed active. I woke up this afternoon and had a greek yogurt with blueberries in it. Then I went on a 20min walk/run...starting the couch to 5K program. On my way home, I smelled a wonderful aroma of grilled chicken that hubby was grilling for me. I had also put in veggies in the oven to roast before I left...so grilled chicken with roasted carrots, brussels sprouts, and broccoli for supper. I will have some sort of snack before bed but not sure what. Feeling great! about halfway through cycle 1!

OK.
Here's my decision.
These past couple of days were really terrible, food-wise (I'm sure it will show at the Monday weigh-in). That's how I understood that I'm really really not ready to start Cycle 3.
I have to bring myself back to track. To re-learn follow the program, without fooling around.
So I start Cycle 1 all over again. Today was Day 1 - and I feel GOOD!
It just feels right, for me, for now.

Got my groceries today!!! I am so pumped about starting back with the 17DD tomorrow. I have always dreaded starting a diet. Not this time. I know that I can be successful. I've done it before. I'm really dreading the weigh in though. I might need a Xanax before. JK.

So far so good! Had lemon water this morning, coffee and creamer (can't give that up but will get fat free when I shop today), greek yogrut and a cup of strawberries with cinnamon mixed in. My blood sugar was a bit low so I grabbed the first thing I could for lunch. Spaghetti squash with spinach, low carb spaghetti sauce, and ground turkey...leftovers and YUM!!! I didn't realize until I had already made it that the spag. squash isn't on cycle 1. But oh well! It was tasty and still a good choice for lunch. I need to exercise today...I have been very much lacking in this dept. Grocery shopping now and exercise later.

@colibri.... yes, you slipped for a couple of moments... no such thing as a lost day... i remember thinking that way..."well, the day is shot already etc." and beating myself up about it (that was all pre 17DD). so, i am so glad you can see the bigger picture. you might want to figure out some protection from those cookies calling to you again... but all in all you are doing so very well. and posting it on line is also a positive step. let us know (i am sure you will) how you feel about cycle 3.

with care,
sharon

Cycle 2, Day 17!
Yesterday evening I had some cookies – totally off the program… but however, I continue.
Today – OK so far… except for some peanuts at the morning. But I refuse to call it a "lost" day. So, I'm going on with the program.
You know what? Even with all my off-track wandering – I've been doing the 17DD for 33 days now, and lost 5 kg. That's definitely something.
So now I'm going to read about Stage 3 :-)

Worked on my meal plan today. I don't get to go grocery shopping until after 1 on Friday. So, I decided to start Saturday. UGH!!! I want to start now. I used my Cozi website this time to meal plan. I saved my 17 Day Diet recipes and can move them into my shopping lists that is on my phone. I can even grab recipes online and it automatically adds it to my recipes. It's very cool! It's also free. I use it for my To Do Lists and it syncs with my Google Calendar. Anyways, I am ready to get started. I was up most of the night last night with heartburn. I've missed my diet and so ready to get started back.

Hi to all

I would like to join in. I am 56 yr old female who is 5'1" and has a lot of weight to lose. I am on day 7 of cycle 1 and have lost 7 lbs so far!!

I am missing pasta and rice but am determined to stick with it. My hubby has to make his own carb sides. I don't want to look at them right now

Any hints for a first timer

Thanks!!

VIKINGBABE: Way to stick to it when you are sick!

CAMILLE: Don't beat yourself up over any gain! My niece just went thru the IVF procedure twice (sadly, without success) and those hormones and all do a number on you. Just go forward with your weight loss plan without regrets. Sending positive thoughts that alternatives will work our for you and hubby. :)

CAMILLE!!!!!! You and your husband have been in my thoughts and well-wishes. I'm so sorry to hear about the IVF struggle; I wish you the best. I've had friends struggle through this and it can be so disheartening - I wish you and your husband strength.

It's good to see you back here, regardless!

Team: sorry I've been MIA - I got ready for work yesterday then out of nowhere got really sick (throwing up, what's up with that???) and today I am definitely sick. I kept to C1 yesterday (easy, as miso soup is good for an upset stomach!) and am sticking to it today, too, although I have no motivation to find/make/get food (I guess that's in my favor, so I don't indulge in "I'm sick I deserve [whatever] food to make me feel better"). I think it's a combination of my immune system tanking after the cumulative stress of the past couple weeks/last Thursday, and my crazy weekend (there's a blog post about that). Infected finger, allergic rash, and now real illness. Awesome!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Hi Everyone!!! Well, I'm back. For those of you that remember me, I finished a round and a half on here last winter and lost 22 lbs. I had left a few months back to do IVF. I went through almost all of an IVF cycle. Hormone shots, suppression shots, egg retrieval, and progesterone shots. We got to our embryo transfer yesterday. We only have one out of 12 that fertilized last Saturday. Well, that one didn't make it. It is a sperm issue that will not be able to be fixed. We are taking a couple of months and looking at other options. Sad to say but I know that I have gained a pretty good bit of weight back. I tried to stay on Cycle 3 of the diet but the water weight and horrible afternoon cravings got me. I will be starting 17DD again. I will start this Friday. I would start today but I have no grocery money until Friday. IVF will drain your bank account real fast. I don't know how much I have gained and will probably cry when I find out. I'm going to keep my salt very low until weigh in Friday and drink loads of water to help with any of the water weight to get a better gauge on everything. I wouldn't ever let them tell me my weight but they did tell me that I didn't gain as much as most women do. I don't know what that means yet. I'm looking forward to being back on here. Starting next Monday, I will be doing the C25K again and Bodyrock on alternating days. I've missed everyone and look forward to getting back in touch and meeting new members. Eggs and Chicken here I come!

Cycle 2, Day 15.
Crazy time at work... yesterday was a little off, I literally had no time to eat (had a yogurt and two apples during the day, no lunch, then a not-really-optimal dinner at home...)
Today, at least, I hope I'll be able to have a 17DD compatible lunch at the staff cafeteria.
Also, no time to walk yesterday. I hope to walk today, after work.

@vikingbabe... sorry i didn't see this to reply earlier. sounds like you absolutely are on top of what happened with your "off cycle 1" issue. also sounds like you were a temporary angel to that 11 year old. and sometimes even a momentary burst of light can help someone weather tough times and places.

hope you have renewed your own batteries.

with care,
sharon

@Noe and @ericagum... welcome back from vacation and welcome back to 17DD. i have had similar experience but was home throughout but felt like a vacation (guess that is what people call a "staycation". i am at end of cycle 3 and need to decide if i will return to cycle 1 or cycle 2 (i could stay on cycle 3 since i am on round 5, but i am not doing as well as i "should" be doing. )
reading your posts helped me take some of the sting out of what i would be saying to myself. instead i will try to keep it positive.

@colibri.... you have been doing SO WELL. if you have been compliant to the diet... then stay with it.. it is probably just your body readjusting and the weight WILL come off (for me that did happen at the end of cycle) you might want to try not to weigh in as often.

My 1st day back from vacation as well. I'm looking forward to getting back on track with cycle 1. I had finished cycle 3 just before vacation. During vacation I ate a healthy breakfast every day and simply just enjoyed whatever meals were provided or convenient the rest of the day. I added 4 lbs. No regrets. Today I've started with my lemon water, and have already grocery shopped so my menu plans are set for the week. I've also reviewed my blog entries to remind me that I know how to get back on track. Time to start re-inspring myself. I'm excited to get back on a schedule. Cheers everyone!

1st day back from vacation - gained 12 pounds! YIKES! I really ate like junk and didn't exercise a lick. I'm not going to beat myself up about it. I'm sure it's mostly water retention. C1 this week - going to get back on track. Just putting this out there for accountability purposes :)

Cycle 2, Day 14.
I don't feel like I'm making any progress right now... but I guess I'll just wait and see.

Terrri: when we travel we usually do the same thing - even if its just a cooler in our hotel room/corner/car! And if I don't pack what I need I stop at a local grocery and pick it up - maybe you can do that with the vinegar, oil, and dijon. (I've also taken my own homemade dressing to restaurants and order salad 'plain' to dress myself) Hope you have a great trip!

Yesterday started C1, and I could NOT have needed a C3 day more. It was just an awful day, I had some 'emergency' 73% dark chocolate after my lunch (at 2pm) - about 3/4oz purely to feel better. There's nothing like packing up an 11-year-old kid's room without them knowing, and seeing the filth and neglect they've been living in. Then, I had a single-serving packet of almonds around 5pm since I knew I wasn't getting dinner until I got home - and I got home at 10:30pm. After re-placing said 11yo in a place that looks remarkably like a mental institution. So, two non-C1 foods which is fine, but MAN was yesterday rough. I'm still exhausted, achey, and just want to crawl back in bed.

I hope everyone has a good day and a good weekend; planning to recharge my batteries by spending the weekend with a friend and some crafting (and shopping)!

A couple more days until we leave on vacation. I am on c3 and have frankly lost track again of which day I am on. I am just going to keep doing what I am doing while away and not worry about cycles and will decide when I get back whether to keep plugging along or to go back to c1.

I was thinking about making salads but I don't eat bottled dressing just homemade. When we were in France last year every where we stayed had oil, vinegar and dijon as basic condiments so no problems in making a dressing. We rent condos when we go on vacations and avoid hotels because we like being in with the "locals" and away from the tourist crowds. With condos you don't have to eat in restaurants for 3 meals a day and can cook which usually involves a salad and some protein. In North America the condiments are usually ketchup, yellow mustard and soy sauce. I will have to wait and see what I find.
