Moe turns six in January. He was super lazy last night, and this morning I think he had a bit more pep on our walk. I hope he continues to get back to his old self. I wanted to air out his cut this morning and in the two minutes I left the room he managed to lick his scab off. It will take a bit longer to heal now.

I had a good day yesterday. Was hungry between meals but was also too busy so that made it impossible to snack. That was a blessing. Two days under my belt with full compliance. I wonder why I can do it now and I couldn't before the wedding. So weird. I shouldn't get too excited, it's only two days lol. Let's see if I can stick it for the whole 17.

My long day today. I have my food packed. During my break at dinner time I need to exchange a shirt for a smaller size. Thought I was bigger than I was. Have a great day!

Our pets are so important to us! How old is Moe? I cannot recall. I too gauge how well our guy is doing by his eating and pooping/peeing. I hope he perks up and is less lethargic. I do get concerned if Jambo gets lethargic. He is 13 and will be 14 in March. We couldn't tell both of us were posting here at the same time. I only saw it after my post went up.

My motivation is high right now too. I am not sure why but it probably has something to do with my upcoming cardiologist visit in December. My "compliance switch" seems to be on for sure at the moment. I am making the most of it. Our organic delivery arrived today, and we are once again well stocked with delicious fruit and veggies. I am planning on salmon for supper along with my wonderful cucumber/tomato salad with lemon & olive oil dressing. That satisfies me so much!

Today is an at home day, and I am loving every minute of it. I am getting through my "to do" list and feel good about that. I am planning on a relaxing evening.

My dad is a big golfer. He is 82 and golfs Mon-Fri in the summer months. He is debating whether or not he should purchase a golf membership for next season. I am sure it gets harder to do with his age and health, but I think being outdoors and active probably does more good than harm. Hoping he will continue! I tried golfing but just never fell in love with it.

I didn't even notice we were on Spark at the same time last night. It's not something I typically do, but I am going to try while motivation to lose the weight is high. I was able to log all of my food. Good to hear that your check up went well. I need to book one with my Dr. I will wait until I am done Cycle 1, that way the weight may be in a better place, and with that my blood pressure.

My dog is a bit lethargic. He has a cut on one of his toes. It seems to be healing. Hoping he perks up so we don't have to take him to the vet. Maybe it's just aging. I will keep an eye on him. He still eats so he can't be too bad.

Diane - Excellent on getting in a golf game! Both of my parents were golfers. DS loves to watch golf and would love to play if there was a way to adapt things for him due to his cerebral palsy. When he turned 16 he and a friend set up golf lessons for him with a pro at a local course. (without my knowledge). The pro was willing to do what he could with DS and to make accommodations as much as he could. When I found out I told DS that I would pay for the lessons as his bday gift. But that summer he had to have surgery for a hernia so that put the golf lessons on hold. He never did go for them after that. He still has a putter that his Godfather bought him for his birthday that year.

Shari - I am not a morning person so I am amazed that you have any time to spark before going to work. Hope you had a great day. I am editing this because I think we were posting simultaneously. Way to go on getting in D1 for C1. Good luck for D2! DS and I just talked about Christmas presents today. He never really wants much of anything and my shopping opportunities are limited of course. I have already purchased some gifts on line for family & a few close friends and just a few little things for DS. I have cut back a lot on gift giving, but still need to have some gifts. I am so grateful for whatever I can get online.

My day was good. I had a check up with my family doctor today and did very well. My blood pressure was perfect, probably because I skipped my morning coffee today. I have been with my family doctor for about 22 years and really like her. I also got a flu shot so I am all set for a while unless I am ill. Our weather is cold, damp, and miserable. My plan is to stay in tomorrow as much as possible.

I made it through Cycle 1 Day 1. Feels so good to get that accomplished. I should be able to have another successful day tomorrow.

Today I feel like I got a lot of work done. My hand is bothering me a bit. Three more weeks and I should be much better or get scheduled for surgery. Work asked me to extend my extra hours until the end of February. I guess I can. I may quit before then so it's nice to have the extra money in the meantime.

I need to find time to get Christmas gifts. I am having trouble coming up with ideas. I will need to get a list started. That will help me figure out who I am buying for. I packed away my Christmas decorations to the farm. I figured we be moving by now. I won't bring them back, I guess a year off will make me appreciate them so much more the next year.

My mornings seem to slip away so fast that it is hard to do my regular check in. We made it home, lovely weekend away and wedding. I will try and catch up tonight as I best get on my way to work.

Paula...congrats on the 2 lbs gone!! So glad you enjoyed the wedding too!
Shari....it sound like a lovely trip, enjoy !

I golfed today for first time in almost a year. Its a club which plays 9 holes from 150 yard marker. Perfect for people like me who are older and less able to physically play a full course and/or more holes. I was worn out upon return home and aching all over...but I did it and hope to go again next Sunday. They had a pizza party after golf and I ate some so was not totally compliant today. Will see what the scale does as it was up, up and then down this morning.

Shari - Your weekend away sounds spectacular! I hope you have a safe return trip. Some areas here are expecting frozen precipitation overnight, but I think where I am will be spared.

Today has been another good day. I am on track and feeling satisfied and in control. I weighed in yesterday and was down 2 pounds. Did not weigh in today but was quite careful at the wedding. I didn't even have a glass of wine, just a sip of the champagne for the toast. The meal was quite healthy....a salad with very light dressing, filet mignon with carrots and green beans. I did had some of the wedding cake they served, avoiding the sugary icing. I had a great time at the wedding and enjoyed socializing with so many church friends, including one family that used to live here but relocated to TX and came back for the wedding. We were seated at the same table, which really gave us time to catch up (as much as possible, considering the loud music of course). The walking was manageable. Going in wasn't difficult and the valet parking guy walked us from our van to the ballroom where the reception was held. We got there early to avoid crowds and to allow enough time for me to do the walking. When we headed out, DS and I made it to the valet parking area, but it was more difficult for me, probably because it was late and I was tired. Again the valet guys were great and helpful, and we managed fairly well. I must add that the bride was stunning of course. Her gown was one of the most beautiful and tasteful I have seen in many years. And her parents were as proud as could be (she is their only daughter). Everything was really exquisite. I am very glad we went, but I must admit that I would think twice before
accepting other invitations, just because it wasn't easy. Oh, and I did use the walker which was crucial to my walking. I don't think I could have done it without the walker.

In other good news, my cousin's daughter gave birth this morning to a 6 lb baby boy, born 2 weeks early. DS is Godfather to their first child. The new baby's middle name is the same as my dad's first name. I haven't asked yet if they named him after my dad, but it sure seems that way. There were some concerns with the pregnancy in Aug/Sept/Oct related to the baby's heart beat and kidney issues, but those issues resolved themselves and both mommy and baby are doing well.

Quick check in. Stayed way later at the wedding than planned. Just want to check in and say that I did relatively well and had a great time at the wedding. Hope to check in tomorrow. Tired now and heading for bed.

I have some this morning to sip on a hot drink and Spark. We have had a lovely couple of days so far. Lots of driving and lots of resting. DH and I both, I guess we have both been pretty stressed and need some time away from our regular routine. We are staying a beautiful mountain resort. Our room is big enough for several more guests. We have a kitchen, living room, TV room, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room and bedroom. We are used to one room hotels. I think we would have an amazing view of the mountains from our room but it is super cloudy and dismal. We hope it doesn't snow as that would make travel home so difficult. I guess we enjoy today and don't worry about that until tomorrow.

I am going to read for a bit and then get ready for the wedding. It's early, like at 12:30. Then we have the day to explore before the reception. The invite doesn't say what time it is at which is weird. I will need to ask a the ceremony.

I am not watching what I am eating. It is going to be a shock to my body when I tackle Cycle 1. I am looking forward to the structure though. I need the weight off, I need the discipline. I have a motivation strategy in place so I should be successful.

Enjoy your wedding Paula! Never mind being self conscious about the walker. I am so glad it's there to help you get around.

Dianne- I will be looking to your example to stick to the diet. 17 Days and I hope to be so much closer to my goal weight. I have some Dr Mike power cookies in the freezer as well. I won't need them for a while, but they are ready.

I am on track today, and supper is over.Just a little more clean up to do. I made salmon again with cauliflower and broccoli. DS had pasta primavera. I tackled some tasks I have been avoiding and am glad I finally did. I feel pretty well rested today which means a lot of course. I am all set for a very relaxing evening. Tomorrow is Shannon's wedding. emoticon I am looking forward to the celebration but am very nervous about the amount of walking I will have to do from the van to the reception ballroom. Despite my pride, I will most likely take my walker. I am planning on not staying much longer than the conclusion of the meal. The reception begins at 5 pm for cocktails. Dinner probably will start around 6. I will be very happy to be home by 9 pm as the reception is only a 15 - 20 minute drive from here.

Shari - Enjoy your weekend away! I hope it provides a good break for you. And I sure hope all goes ok with your hand. Time off at Christmas sounds good.....surgery, well....if necessary that is good too.

Diane - I might have told you that there was a time when I considered relocating to New Mexico for my retirement, but plans changed and here I am in PA. I do have friends in NM and have visited there a few times. My scallops were delicious and are indeed a favorite of mine. I am not a baker at all. I love to cook but baking requires too much precision for me. I haven't ever made Dr. Mike's power cookies. Maybe some day I will try to make them.

I had to take our van to the car care place this morning because the tire pressure gauge came on again. It happens a lot when the temperatures drop. The guys there are so good to me. I say it is like taking the van to a brother. I got my nails done today and then picked up our Shoprite from home order. It doesn't sound like a lot but after all of that I am a bit tired. Turkey burgers for supper because they are easy and DS likes them too. Haven't gone near a scale for a while and will postpone weighing for a little while yet.

Weight bounced back up again after being down a lb, I have put .8 of it back on, sigh (but to be expected these ups and downs). I know weighing every day can cause anxiety over these blips but I seem to be able to deal with knowing it is normal and I need to weigh for me to keep on track! Once i let myself go even a few days withou weighing I am in trouble!

I made a double batch of Dr. Mikes power cookies this morning. Last pan baking now. It is a procedure which I do not enjoy anymore (baking) so I do a double batch and put all the cookies in freezer. That way they are out of sight and only have them when on correct cycle usually. Had two this morning to test the of course...but will wait now to have them in a few days. I add a lot more cinnamon for flavor and some water to the batter because it is sooo dry it doesnít form a cookie well unless i add some liquid. I like the cookies frozen better than thawed.

Hope you have a great trip Shari.
Pauls, enjoy your scallops, I think you said they are a favorite?
Terrible weather back in MN but lovely here in AZ. Feeling very blessed to be able to spend retirement years here!

I got up an hour later today. I have a lot to do before we can get on the road. I had a very terrible day of making and eating the wrong foods. I told myself that I start Cycle 1 on Monday, so get in some foods that you will miss. I feel terrible now. Lesson learned. Again. I will not be eating on plan while away, but I am not going to overdo it like I did yesterday.

The appt at the hospital was interesting. The first doctor looked at my x-ray and told me I just bought myself a surgery. He was kind when he said it. He told me that I have not had any bone growth to heal the break. Then the second doctor, one I have seen the last few visits invited me to see the x-ray. He said there may be some bone growth, but I couldn't see the difference between the last x-ray and the current one. He said we will wait four more weeks. Most of that decision was based on my symptoms. I don't have a lot of pain or discomfort. I am okay with that decision as the timing will be better for me to have surgery closer to Christmas. I am going to be more careful with my hand. I think eating better and trying to reduce the stress will help me to heal. If not, I will take that as a sign that God wants me to take some time off from work and have some time to be still.

I need to pack, get a few chores looked after in the next couple of hours. I would like to leave at 10am.

Hope you are all doing well. I hope to catch up with everyone more next week. I will be sparking a lot more after the weekend. I have to do it this time. I am tired of falling off the wagon and even though I am not gaining weight, it's not coming off. Effort is the ingredient I am lacking.

Shari - Hoping all goes well with your checkup!

I am checking in early today because I have the time right now. I am off to a good start for the day. I will probably prepare scallops for supper with lots of veggies. It is unseasonably cold here again today so I am just delighted to be able to stay in all day. There are one or two minor errands I could take care of today, but if I opt to put them off till tomorrow that will be fine too.

I will probably have more than 3 cups of hot green tea today as it is just that kind of day. I find the green tea so very nurturing and satisfying. I am making the most of this low-demand day because tomorrow will be more of an errand day including getting a manicure and picking up groceries from Shoprite from home. I skipped that last week and we are getting low on some of our "go to" items.

Here's to a Happy Hump Day!

Diane - Woo Hoo and congrats on dropping that pound! I agree that this diet works that way. I too find that I will see a 1 lb or so drop after staying the same or going up and down a fraction of a pound for a while. I wonder if this is tied to Dr. Mike's concept of switching things to create the metabolic confusion. I love the feeling of making room in my closet by getting rid of things like old shoes or clothes I won't wear any more. But of course that also allows for adding more new items to the closet!

Shari - I hope you are able to get some extra rest. Be careful because feeling tired can lead to getting sick. You don't need that. So sorry about Moe's feet. Our dog is a totally inside dog. He is paper trained and doesn't like being outside. (He takes after me.) Butter tarts sound sooooo yummy!

I am very much on track today and feeling pretty good. My grumpy mood regarding the church stuff has subsided. I was able to accomplish a lot around the house again today which is always good for me. We had turkey burgers and sauteed peppers again for supper....easy, healthy, and quite satisfying. Our neighbor Chris dropped by this evening for a little while. He had to work late but still stopped by to turn off our outside water as the temps here are dropping way down tonight, and he worries about our pipes freezing. I am planning to sleep in a bit tomorrow as very cold weather is predicted and tomorrow will be a totally "at home" day. I have plenty here to keep me busy....and I look forward to sleeping without having to set an alarm clock. emoticon

Happy to see the scale down a full, whole 1 lb after being up .4 for a few days! I was not compliant on my dinner last night after going to see veterans concert under the stars (performance from people in our retirement development). We sat on stadium chairs on the grass. After we got home DH wanted grilled cheese sandwiches and I ate one too.

It is sooo weird how this diet works! My body resists losing and then wala I am down and yet it will bounce around this new 168 number and plateau for days and maybe longer before all of a sudden I see another dip. Its not a slow .1 or .2 lb decrease on a steady pace as one would expect, lol! I will be happy for what it is and cheer myself onward!

Good luck with keeping on track ladies! Paula, I think filet is good choice and is red meat I try to have....less fatty.

PS...Threw out 8 pairs of old birks. Found two pair that were almost brand new and will wear those and my sketchers! Hip is better today but back is sore from those lousy canvas chairs. We only stayed an hour as I was concerned about our poor seating for my hip and also we went in golf car so wanted to beat traffic leaving in the dark. Full moon, lovely evening!

There is a part of me that would like to start C1 today, six days will go by quickly and I will be right there with you guys. I know I can do it since I have in the past. It will feel better once the few extra pounds are back off. Then I need to stick the cycle that will keep me there long term.

I am starting the week tired. I had a pleasant morning walk as it's milder outside. Moe has a couple of cuts on his feet. Not sure how he got them. I have to put socks on his feet and then some dog shoes. I change them out once I get home as his feet get wet from the snow. The cuts are looking like they are healing which is good.

I had some lard getting close to expiring so I made Butter Tarts. I had a couple but that will be all I have. My GI tract did not appreciate them at all. I really bloated and got gassy. That will add fructose to the intolerances that I have. No need to test that one again. I just have four stages of fructans to test. Onions, garlic, bread and then beans. I am pretty sure bread is okay.

Running late, maybe I will have time to catch up a bit more tonight.

Diane - Congrats on making it back to C1! C3 presents some serious challenges in my view. I tend to flip flop between C1 and C2, avoiding C3 for the full 17 days but throwing in some C3 days between C2 and C1.

Shari - I like your $170 incentive idea. Your DH must know how important this is to you! Birkenstocks are expensive but do last a long time.....just ask Diane or me.... we seem to have had ours for years. They mold to your feet, so to speak, and at least for me become really comfy and supportive. I used to buy them from QVC but they stopped carrying them. My last few pairs came from Zappos.

My eating was much better today. Now to continue this for the rest of the week. The wedding is on Saturday. We had to preorder our entree from a choice of 3: crabcakes, vegetarian lasagna (both too many carbs, right?), and filet mignon. Both DS and I selected the filet mignon. I think they usually are pretty small so it won't be a lot of red meat.

My day otherwise was all topsy turvy. Our former neighbor Cora came to visit this afternoon. She usually stays for only 45 min to an hour. Today she stayed for over 2 hours! I had a lot to do but really did enjoy her visit, so it was a good afternoon. Also, my phone kept ringing and ringing with phone calls from concerned church friends about some of the goings on at yesterday's meeting. It's not so much concern about some decisions that were made or ideas suggested, but rather the way in which some things were presented....very frustrating, but not much we can do about it... at least for now.

Remarkably, I did still accomplish a lot of my "to do" list in between Cora's visit and all the phone calls. I will work on more of the list tomorrow since I plan to stay in as our weather is going to be very cold and somewhat unpleasant.

Good luck shopping for birks. The correct fit is important. Luckily for me, I found a person knowledgeable at specialty shoe store to help me with my first pair. I suggest you go into a good birkenstock store to get fitted and wear those for a while...and if you like them itís great to find others online. I am a narrow footbed and most places do not carry them, just the regular medium width. They also now make a soft footbed but I am used to the firmer hard cork and canít seem to find the softbeds as comfy for me. We are all unique in our foot comfort.

That added $$ incentive from your DH is nice....he sounds like a supportive person! I know you will reach your goal even if it is some days after the wedding you are attending!

My DH is also supportive and encouraging...and not judging either when I choose to diet or not diet. Back when I lost weight on this diet before age 60 he even ate many salads with me and some of my other meals. Today, 12 yrs later, he just wants his regular meals and is not fond of salads or veggies except corn...so while encouraging me, he is not eating any of it with me, lol.

I have been wanting to buy a pair of Birkenstocks. I have never owned any. Maybe that will go on my Christmas wish list. I too need to throw out worn out shoes. I wore a terrible pair shopping the other day and had such sore feet and legs afterwards. I quite like the pair shown with the closed toe.

I didn't eat well yesterday either. I usually do so well at home. Not sure what happened. I had such a good week. I will keep trying. The out of town wedding won't be good but when I get back I have a plan that will help me stick to Cycle 1. DH is going to give me $170 for sticking to it for 17 days. It's not a lot of money, but I know that having the money on the line will be my best motivator. I wish I would have thought of this before the wedding. Oh well, the weight will come off, just not in the timing I had hoped for.

Thanks for the Birkenstock info! I, too, have not worn much of anything except Birkenstocks for the last 20 yrs or so. When I was standing all day at work I developed plantar fasciitis and the only cure that worked for me was Birks! During the last year or so I have found longer walking was more comfortable in Sketchers. Last spring, I even developed a stress fracture in my right foot while wearing my usual birks. Now I believe I have found the reason. My old well worn and much loved shoes are all worn out! I am going online and will get a few new pairs to replace my old ones.

My weight is up another .2 lb. Guessing it is from weekend of not being completely carb free. Today i am back on the cycle 1 of diet. I feel lucky I did not gain more from cycle 3 where I allowed myself a bit of pasta yesterday, a small chicken quesadilla on Sat. and some non reduced calorie yogurt this weekend too. Grocery store was out of Activia light so got the regular Activia. Back on track 1 today and hoping the total .4 lb on scale are gone in few days.

My hip is much better today so will do one more RnR day with ice etc and hit the gym tomorrow! Wishing everyone strong willpower and good eating today!

Diane - Birkenstocks are the ONLY shoe I can wear. This has been the case for the past 16 years. I have tried other similar brands but do not get the support I need to line up my deformed knee. Because they are so expensive I seldom buy Birkenstocks, but this year I bought myself 2 pairs of the same closed shoes in 2 different colors I got these in this color and in black. I LOVE them.
I have many pairs of Birkenstock sandals accumulated over the years, but finding fall/winter Birkenstocks affordable and appropriate for our PA seasons is not an easy task. I have to be careful too about the wear on the ones I have. Thanks for the heads up!

Shari - I do most of my Christmas (and other) shopping online for obvious reasons. There are pros and cons to this, but it works for me. I am glad we haven't had a major snow storm yet, though last year in mid Nov. we had 8 inches (I was reminded of this by several folks at church today). Our forecast suggest a possibility of snow this week, but not a major accumulation.

My eating was not good today. I got very much off schedule due to a meeting at church starting late and running way long. Then when we got home from church my friend Sandi dropped by with some less-than-compliant goodies. I was already in a grumpy mood because of some of the things that happened at the church meeting. So I used that as an excuse to stray. And guess what.....eating that junk did not make me feel any better!!! It made me feel worse. Ugh! Monday......here I come!!!

Extra sleep is wonderful if it happens! I usually am guilty of getting less instead of more and likely has not been good for me or my weight in the long run!

I am sitting with ice on my hip. DH had to go to first golf outing without me. I can barely walk around the house let alone trek the course, bend over or ride in bumpy cart! We went to a small art fair yesterday, walked quite a bit but at slow pace. Came home, made dinner, watched a movie with DH and could hardly walk back to bedroom!

After some investigation and thinking....I figured out I had been walking in old pair of well loved birkenstock sandals. And, outside rubber sole is almost completely worn off. I was walking and weight bearing all afternoon adding a lot of stress on my hip joint. I have had intermittent pain in my right hip for some time now and one bout which laid me up for a few days a couple weeks ago. I accidentally figured it out last night due to increased pain when trying to walk in those same shoes to bedroom. So glad I discovered this issue. I have had them soooo many years (15?) and other pairs too which I now see need to be tossed out too!

Wishing everyone a beautiful Sunday!

I didn't eat on track yesterday. I will today. It's just because we went Christmas shopping and I shared some fries with DS. We did pretty good. The mall was packed and it was hard to find a parking spot. I will need to do the rest of my shopping online or on a weeknight.

DH did snow removal last night. He will be sleeping in for quite a while. I can get started on laundry and do some more packing. We need to pick up a few items from Home Depot later today before we can work on some minor repair jobs to get the house ready for sale. I will also get him to help me take a load to Value Village, a thrift store.

We got so much snow Friday to Saturday. Winter has arrived. I will post a photo later today.

I support sleeping in extra as much as possible! I think sleep is a great activity in so many ways. It can help keep cravings at bay and just create an better disposition for me. I slept in today and once again accomplished a good amount of work in the house. I see a real difference in how I feel, related to how much sleep I get. Enjoy your long weekend, Shari! I am guessing it is for Veterans' Day, as it is here in the US.

I ate on track again today. We had turkey burgers for supper....so good and so easy! I added sauteed peppers which DS and I always enjoy. I am tired now and planning an early bedtime again.

Blessed Sunday friends!

I was off routine the last couple of mornings. I decided to sleep in an extra half hour but that messed me up for sparking. I had a full week of not eating any unhealthy crap. I had pre-planned to eat a bit off yesterday, but even then I didn't overdo it. Back on track today.

We have a long weekend here and I am hoping to get a lot more done to get the house ready to list. I plan to spend some time in the garage with DH so it doesn't look so cluttered. I also want to add ten minutes of exercise to my day. I haven't exercised in months because of my hand.

I didn't come close to meeting my goals. I will need to reset my long term goals and do better. This week I will still aim to lose one pound.

What a difference a day makes! I feel like a different person today. I did go to bed early but can't say I slept really well, but I did sleep. I now think that yesterday's fatigue was RA related and not just a lack of sleep or doing too much. I feel like my normal self today (normal for me that is). I am totally on track which also helps. I had my annual eye exam today. Because of the meds I take for my RA I have to have special eye tests every year to check for toxicity and other side effects. Again this year I passed with flying colors. I am very happy about that. Our ophthalmologist is such a great guy. I wish all doctor visits were as pleasant as these.

Tomorrow I have plans to have lunch with 2 friends. We might go to Olive Garden. If so, I will plan on having salmon and not overdoing it with any breadsticks or salad. I think the salad dressing at Olive Garden is high calorie.

Shari - Glad no mice in the traps! That is a good sign.

Diane - I admire your commitment and consistency. It will pay off. Sounds like you are doing great....even if the food is boring!

I think we all are heading in the right direction. So good to be sharing this journey with such great ladies!!

I am very tired and going to bed very early. I had the final set of shots in my knees today. I will have them again in 6 months. I got my haircut today too. I am not sure why I am so tired today. It could be from dealing with the disruption of the bathroom remodel and the aftermath of getting things back together again. The good news is I had another on track day. This is especially remarkable because when I am tired, I usually use it as an excuse to stray. Not today. Maybe I am even too tired to stray so it was easier to just stick with the plan.

Glad to hear mice are routed! Hope you donít ever see any more! Good going on 3 days on track diet wise too!

Paula
Nice to have your remodel done! And especially nice it went smoothly and you are happy with the new look! Enjoy!

I am continuing on my 3 rd cycle of 17dd with bery small amount of potato now and then. Otherwise about same as cycle 1. I was down .6 lb but up .2 next day! That was after taco meat on sald greens...hoping tomorrow morning will see that.2 down again. We all go up and down a bit due to water weight or salt intake, I believe. My eating is very boring but tonight I am having small amount of sweet potato with my chicken breast so that is a change, yum!

I am on to Day 3 of not eating any unhealthy food. We are being served tacos at work today but I know I can make a salad out of what will be offered. No change on the scale this morning but if I keep up with the good work I know it should drop in the next day or two.

Glad to hear your Keurig is working again. Be great to have a fresh bathroom to use. I was sooo tired last night I barely did anything after work. Heated up leftovers for supper and tidied our family room. It's in pretty good shape for selling the house. I work late tonight so Thursday night I will tidy our back entry. There will be lots to do there.

No mice in traps the last two days. Maybe we caught them all.

Shari, I hope you are continuing your healthy eating streak. This is the week for us to do well!! (next week too!)

The Keurig is working thanks to a wonderful woman in customer service who walked me through what to do. So happy to have our coffee back today. The bathroom renovation is essentially finished, and I am very pleased. The contractor, John, did a super job and went above and beyond expectations. I have decided on a shower curtain which I just ordered from Bed Bath & Beyond. The rest of the decor will follow easily. I still have a lot of post renovation clean up to do and hope to accomplish it tonight. I am skipping the monthly meeting for the charitable organization tonight....too much to do here, and I am already tired.

So far so good with my eating today. Supper tonight is chicken with spinach, mushrooms, and cauliflower. DS is having pasta (and won't gain any weight at all). I am staying away from the scale for a few days. Maybe I won't weigh in until Saturday or Sunday.

I didn't feel like a hero getting bacon out of the freezer with a mouse in the same area lol! I am sure I look ridiculous. The breakfast was appreciated.

I am sorry about the weight shifting up on you. You have told yourself all of the truths, but I know it is still super disappointing to see weight go up and not down. Try weighing in again, might have just been some water weight hanging around for the day. For you not to log your food is big! I still struggle to do that.

We have a Keurig at work that I like to use. I make coffee in an old coffee maker at home and that works well. I like to make coffee with milk and a bit of cocoa in it on Sunday mornings. hope you get your machine running again.

It will feel good to the junk out of the house! I should be working harder on moving but find it hard to get motivated after a full day of work. It will happen, needs to be soon so we can list our house. Hopefully this month.

I had a pretty good of eating healthy yesterday. Ready to do it again. I am determined to have a good week!

Oh my! That mouse experience would have totally freaked me out! I did not do well with even the few dead ones I saw in the basement. You did far better than I would have for sure.

I weighed this morning and was UP almost a pound, which really bothered me. I told myself about how weight fluctuates but it still bothered me. My pain level was on the high end which also contributed to my grumpy mood for a while. I started to log my food for a Sunday but didnít finish, a rare occurrence for me. When we got home from church our Keurig went on the blink with a screen message telling me what to do & if that didnít fix the problem to call their 800 number. I wasnít about to try to reach a real person there on a Sunday. I just switched to my green tea & will call Keurig on Monday as time permits. This particular Keurig I got for free as part of a national consumer panel study. I do have another Keurig brand new in a closet so I could simply use that one, but I had way too much to do today to tackle getting that out, up, and running. I had a lot to do to get ready for the guys from 1800got junk to come tomorrow morning to take away a truck load (literally) of junk from the basement as well as a few other items. Nicole is coming to go to the basement to supervise the junk removal. And John the contractor will be here painting in the bathroom. A busy Monday here. I will really need coffee!

I haven't enlisted the help of an exterminator. Not sure they would be able to more than we are unless they can determine how they are getting in! Today there was yet another mouse in one of the traps. Everyone is still sleeping and I couldn't deal with it. I went downstairs to get some bacon out of the freezer. I am going to make a nice breakfast for DS and his girlfriend. A quick visit, just one night. Anyway, I went downstairs and couldn't help but check the traps. There is a mouse in one. Alive! I ran back upstairs. I really wanted to cook the bacon ahead of time, so after getting my composure, I went back down, diverted my eyes and manage to get the bacon. I am so horrified. The farmhouse doesn't get mice, but I will be getting a couple of outdoor cats to keep the population of mice down.

I didn't do well with eating at the shower. The food provided was all high carb-breads. I didn't eat any sweets though. No veggies which was weird to me.

I dislike dr appts as well. i am glad you made an appointment. I am still stalling. Hope your ear clears up. That can be quite uncomfortable. Thanks for the reminder about the time. I totally forget it was time to change the clocks.

I am making a roast beef dinner for Jim's parents and a guest from Australia. As long as I choose good portion sizes, it won't be too far from compliance. Just the beef and I don't care for potatoes so I will be good. Well, I have the opportunity to be good.

Shari - So sorry about your mice problem. As you probably recall, this was an issue for me last year. I still have the exterminator come for quarterly visits to monitor and treat the problem. We haven't had any more mice since summer 2018 but I am totally freaked out by their simply being here then. I share your horror! There were 5 killed in the traps in our basement back then. The exterminators have told me that the mice can squeeze in thru the tiniest openings and it is almost impossible to close up all possible openings. In this day and age, with all of our advances in technology, it amazes me that we cannot find a way to guarantee no mice entering our dwellings! I hope you enjoyed the bridal shower! And I hope there were some healthy food options there for you.

I have my physical with my family doctor on November 18, the Monday after Shannon's wedding. I also need to schedule another 24 hour heart monitor and a cardiologist follow up this month or next. I dread all of these appointments. Now my right ear is blocked. It could be a wax build up, though that has never been a problem in the past for me. At first I thought it was something related to my on-going seasonal allergies (fluid in the ears?), but it has been over 2 weeks now with little or no improvement. I don't see any indication of infection. I am hoping to address it with my family doctor in 2 weeks or that it will clear up by itself in the meantime.

I did well with eating again today. I didn't have any cravings and no excessive hunger. I am grateful for the "extra" hour we get by turning the clocks back one hour tonight. I need to concentrate on providing myself with an extra hour every night!

Have a blessed Sunday!

Paula- Thank you for the wonderful reminder of how to relax. I have done all of those things in the past, but in the busyness of today, I haven't been doing any of them except perhaps the tea. I will book an appointment for my physical soon. I am overdue. I want to lose five pounds before I make that appointment so I really need to get serious and get that done.

There is a lot on my plate right now but I don't have to be overwhelmed. I just need to get things done little by little. I focus on what there is to do and I need to celebrate the things that I have completed. A journal will help me see all of the progress. I can easily do that in my blog here on SP.

On a side note- we have mice in the basement. We have caught 9!!! I can't figure out where they got in, but I am really hoping we are or we are really close to have looked after the whole crew. I can't even explain the horror I feel.

I have a bridal shower this afternoon. I will eat my "lunch" at it. I will choose the healthiest options and one treat. Supper will be a bit of steak (not compliant on Cycle 1) and veggies. I need to keep eating up our freezer contents. I am getting super close and that's exciting. We will be able to move our freezer easier.

My money is on the hormones contributing in a major way to your situation. For some women menopause can be pretty miserable and we do tend to struggle most with those people most important to us. I wish there was a magic formula to follow, but we are all different. Perhaps relaxing (if possible) with a hot cup of tea? (green tea is said to reduce stress); reading the Psalms? "escaping" with a movie or good book? lavender lotion? (I have bought baby lotion in lavender scent and I do find it calming); Journaling? (for the past 24 years I have consistently kept a daily journal where I write a minimum of 5 things I am grateful for that day. And I have kept all of those journals over all of these years. I can get about 3 years or more in one book. Sometimes I look back to what was important/an issue/a success/etc.. over the years, and it gives me a welcome perspective.) These are just some random thoughts that came to me as I read your post. Thankfully I am post-menopausal and then had a complete total hysterectomy 4 years ago as well. I still have an occasional hot flash, but no other symptoms anymore. DS still recalls "that summer" when my menopausal symptoms were a their worst.

I had a very compliant day and am not sure why, but I'll take it! I snacked on pears. I had salmon again for supper and ate earlier than DS because I was hungry and didn't want to allow myself to get too hungry which could lead to overeating. I also made my wonderful cucumber/tomato/olive salad with lemon juice and olive oil dressing for both of us. DS loves it and so do I.

Our contractor, John, worked here this afternoon and is making more progress in the bathroom. He predicts the renovation will be finished by Tuesday. I doubt that, but we'll see. John plans to come tomorrow for just about an hour or so and then will return Monday afternoon.

I had a terrible day of eating and emotions. I ate junk food most of the day. Arrrgh! Need a fresh start today. Also argued with the husband. My stress is getting me down. I need to figure out how to care for myself so I can through this. Maybe hormones are a part of the issue. I am into menopause so I need to sort out how that is impacting me.

I also have 16 days to drop some pounds. I am running out of time. Goals have been readjusted, its just so hard to stay focused on my plans. I start out the day right, I can even make it to lunch then I forget what my goals are and make unwise choices. So much effort needed.

My choices today weren't as good as I planned. I am still within my ranges per spark but my carbs are too high in my opinion. I know tomorrow will be better. November 1st! Sixteen days till the wedding. I won't drop 10 pounds but maybe 5 if I work really hard.

Shari, I hope our emotional stress subsides. You have so much going on now. Take heart in knowing the weekend is upon us. I hope you get some "you" time to rejuvenate and relax a bit.

It is warm and rainy here now and we are under a severe thunderstorm watch for the next 5 hours or so. It is VERY windy and almost eerie on this Halloween night. Today was manicure day and also the day this week for me to pick up our Shoprite from home order. I had to buy a bunch of stuff to contribute to some charity activities at church. This pick up service made that so easy for me. I really appreciate that.

Hope the coming weekend brings us more success!

Bad yesterday with eating choices. Need to do better today. Get back on track. Not in a great mood today. I am feeling the impact of not having influence at home or at work. Need to sort that emotional stress today.

The physical responses we have to some foods can be an important motivator to avoid them. I have an allergic reaction to dried fruit to the point that eating it has caused my throat to swell. Knowing that, I never eat dried fruit. I try to use the same approach to not eating non compliant foods, telling myself that non compliant eating causes my body to swell with fat! But somehow that doesn't always keep me compliant.

I like eggs or egg whites for breakfast too. I recently saw a recipe that involved baking the contents of an egg (unscrambled) in red peppers that have been cut in half, cleaned out, and pre-baked. I could bake them in the toaster oven. The recipe adding fresh spinach, cheese, broccoii, mushrooms, etc. I am interested in trying this but would have to do it on a morning when I had extra time as mornings are difficult for me with stiffness, etc. But I think I am going to try this sometime.

DS and I had a wonderful time at dinner with Deb. She is such an interesting person and so much fun to be with. Since I almost never make red meat at home, I ordered a rib eye steak with a side of steamed broccoli and a side of grilled zucchini. I consider that relatively compliant. We talked for almost 3 hours. I drank water and 3 cups of green tea.

Today was good too. I had salmon and asparagus for supper. I made pasta and broccoli for DS and wasn't even tempted to have any pasta. Soon I will exit the kitchen and remove myself from any food temptations.

Sorry to hear about rainy weather keeping everyone at home. Sunny here but we are getting high winds from California I guess? CA is struggling with the winds and forest fires...with crews from here in AZ going their to volunteer help. I am keeping them all in my prayers for safe keeping!

Sounds like everyone has been strong on diet too! I am down again a little bit to 169.8 which is first time without a 7 in the number for a few years now!

I resisted Germain chocolate cake slice (a big fav of mine) and a maple long john both on sale at the local Albertsons grocery Monday. They have awesome bakery, sigh. As I entered the store I passed an extremely overweight man who had to top 300 lbs. I felt sad for him and said a quick prayer for him but it also spurred me on to be strong in my choices. (He was also buying day old goodies at the bakery area when I went past). Today my lower weight number is a reward for saying no.

On Sunday I did have one small miniature sized ice cream sandwich. DH was saying how good this brand was compared to what we can buy in MN. It was good, but not great, so I now should be able to pass them by without thinking I am missing out on something extra delicious. Sometimes it is better for me to taste a few bites of forbidden desserts and discover for myself itís not worth the weight gain!

Time for breakfast egg scramble with peppers and onions. Then I am off to fitness center. Skipped Monday as my hip bothered me Friday after my workout (and all weekend) so wanted to rest it. Hoping it will not be bad after this session on my SciFit machine. I am thankful when I am able to exercise without fibro flare or joint flare up. I have learned to exercise whenever I am able, but not to overdo as I pay by being more laid up for longer periods of time.

I need to take a few days to get my belly better so I will focus on FODMAP eating plus the 17 Day Diet. I had a little bit of fudge sauce with a brownie yesterday at a staff going away party. I wanted to just have one bite and while I was having the bite I asked the kitchen lady what was in the sauce. Oh my goodness, so bad! Lots of high FODMAP ingredients. I didn't think I would react since it was one bit, but I felt it in the evening. That's the only thing that I ate that was on the "don't eat this" list. I test fructose on the weekend, so if I react again I will know for sure to avoid fructose. I won't be sad about that.

Hope your dinner out was enjoyable! Its hard to stay 100% compliant. I wish I had more resolve but so much of what we do revolves around food. I am doing better! Need to celebrate the wins not beat ourselves over the mistakes.

Good to be gaining info on your sensitivities. Knowledge is power! It is hard to ask for help. I pay Nicole for her time as I know she could use the money. That way I feel comfortable asking her to do some of the things I can no longer do. I also try to compensate our neighbor Chris when he helps out. He never wants to take the money, but I have gotten him to understand that it is important to me so that I can feel comfortable asking him again and again.

I am checking in early because DS and I are going out to dinner with his 3rd grade teacher. Several times a year we get together with her and sometimes the woman who was the secretary at his elementary school. We have been doing this ever since he was in 3rd grade. Today Vickie (the secretary) is ill so it will be just DS, Deb, and I. I know I will complain about the sodium in whatever I select, but I am prepared to make wise choices. I seldom go out to eat anymore, partly because of mobility issues and partly because of my growing concerns about the health quality of restaurant foods. But I must admit that today I am delighted that I don't have to cook!

I did okay testing lactose. I had a moderate reaction so I will know not to indulge in dairy and especially not to combine it with other sensitivities. Hopefully my belly bloat will subside and then see a marked improvement as I avoid foods that I need to.

So good to have help, although I know how hard it is to ask and receive help. People are generally kind and its helps them to help others. I had to learn that while having a broken hand. It feels good to be able to do most things now. Writing is still hard but I am getting there.

Need to get out the door. I was slow to get going today.

Good move Shari, staying home in your bad weather. And good for you for not indulging in your carrot cake! That is a favorite of mine. Good luck testing your lactose tolerance. I became lactose intolerant over 10 years ago. It is much worse for milk and ice cream for me than for yogurt and cottage cheese thank goodness. I can live without milk and ice cream but I love my yogurt and cottage cheese.

I am having another on track day. I always feel like I have to add "so far" because I know I can stray so easily at times. I am taking time now to "spark" and enjoying a cup of green tea. I was up and moving pretty early this morning because Nicole came to do some work in the basement. She continues to help me clean things out, but she hasn't been here since July because both of our schedules have been full. Her time to come here is mostly limited to Monday mornings because that is the only time her husband (the priest at our church) has time to watch their 4 kids while she is gone. I didn't go to the basement today because Nicole knows what to do and runs up to ask questions if needed. I haven't been in our basement since July.

I also didn't go to church this weekend. We watched online on Saturday night. I stayed home all day yesterday. The weather was terrible. I did manage to get the laundry done, cleaned the living room, made dinner and a carrot cake. I had just one bite. I won't need to have any more as DS can take with him when he goes out of town today.

I am going to have 1 cup of milk which isn't on the plan for today, but I am ready to test my tolerance to lactose. If all is good I can add milk back in to my diet plan on a future cycle, Not just milk, but dairy in general.

Another week of work! Oh how I love the weekends.

Well we didn't get to church this morning. We had torrential rains that have now finally eased up. My friend Alice called me and Carol emailed me, each to say they didn't risk driving in such conditions this morning. So none of us got there. I feel bad, always do when I miss church, but I think I made the right decision. Actually it was DS who talked me into staying home because of the weather. We are also not going to the concert at our old church this afternoon. The weather isn't bad now so we could do it, but DS doesn't want to go. This is very unusual for him as he typically enjoys this kind of thing. I tried to cajole him into going, but to no avail. So I am respecting his preference. I could go without him, but I don't want to do that. I will miss the socializing after the concert, but so be it I guess.

So far today I am again on track. My motivation is high. I have to come up with something compliant for supper. We have plenty of veggies, but I must thaw out some meat soon! Shari, our weight naturally fluctuates some, so don't stress too much about the gain, but as you are doing, make the most of this to keep at your plan.

I am looking out our kitchen window at our very huge maple tree in our backyard. Its leaves are a glorious yellow color, and it seems to have changed color overnight almost. It is so very beautiful. God's creation is amazing.

I may follow your lead Paula. Lemon water in the morning, a coffee or tea when I get to work and a green tea in the afternoon. Sounds like a good rhythm. And I will clear the tempting snacks from my house as soon as DS moves out. I can send the snacks with him!

Somehow I am up in weight today when I really thought I would have hit my goal. Must work harder today. I am looking at following Cycle 1 with strictness for the next two weeks to see if that will help me get down to the five pound goal I set. I will start tomorrow.

Hope you manage getting out to church Paula. After my fall I can see why you would be leery about slipping yourself. Recovery seems to take forever.

Shari - I am a lemon water lover! But I enjoy the green tea too. My usual routine is first the warm lemon water, then my beloved coffee, and later in the day my green tea. I find the tea in the afternoon and early evening to be both relaxing and nurturing. I recently bought Newman's Own organic green tea on sale at Shoprite. It is very good.

Diane - I am delighted to hear that Robin is doing so well. What a blessing. You and she have remained on my prayer list from back when you first mentioned that she was having health problems. When a person I am praying for becomes well, I move them to my "praise list" and remember to thank God for the healing. Robin will be on that list with you now.

I had a really good compliant day today. I made turkey tenderloins with carrots, both on a sheet pan. I is an easy meal that both DS and I enjoy. I added more salad like we had yesterday. With DS's help I was able to go through some purses I have accumulated over many years and no longer want/need. We bagged 2 large garbage bags full of high quality purses to donate to our local thrift store. A friend will take them to the thrift store for me next week. I love the extra space I have now that I got rid of those old handbags.

I am quite concerned about our weather for tomorrow as heavy rain is predicted. I am ok driving in it, especially during the day, but worry about walking on the wet floors at church and later in the afternoon at the concert at my old church. I have to be so careful not to fall on wet surfaces. Some areas are carpeted but not all areas where I will have to walk. I really don't want to miss our church service in the morning and don't want to miss the concert at my old church, especially since I have been encouraging the folks at my current church to attend the concert. I guess I will just have to see how I feel and how the weather turns out tomorrow.

Paula...congrats on the weight loss!! Every loss counts and lots small ones add up to big ones! That is only way I keep going because at my age and physical condition I lose so slowly! You are doing great!!

Speaking of doing great...thanks for asking about my sister Robin. She is doing so well...has a new lease on life since her open heart surgery! I will say it is wonderful to watch her blossom!! She has physical limitations as do we all...but she pushes her limits Is welcoming new experiences!

Shari...I have to deal with snacks for DH who can enjoy most anything without much weight gain! He has some favorite snacks that are not exactly mys favs so I try to pick those when at grocery store, lol. When I really have to be strong and usually fail is when I get a treat for him that I actually like too. For instance, I am not popcorn fan and he loves it, I do not care for peanut butter or peanuts much and he loves those so if it has nuts in I can usually walk by. Also, I keep his snacks in separate cupboard and out of my constant contact while cooking. He is big chip fan and I usually can pass those by also. What I have trouble with is carmel ice creams...so I get him something else like drumsticks which he loves or ice cream sandwhiches etc. ice cream is harder for me to pass up, lol. I had a couple bites of a rootbeer float creamy bar last night. Something new we had not had...It was ok but I deemed not worth the transgression so was able to just hand it to him after a taste. If he likes them, I know I could keep them in frig and pass them by. You get the idea....it is tough though.

Keepon keeping on everyone! Have a great weekend!

Last night I munched on snacks I shouldn't have. I am determined to have a good day today. I should be able to since I am at home. Once my youngest son moves out I am going to clear the cupboards of the foods that are not heathy, that way I won't have access to the unhealthy snack choices. I don't go overboard, but then I wouldn't all.

I finally got around to purchasing a lemon. I am sipping on hot water with lemon this morning. I was drinking tea in the morning and it feels better to have the lemon water. I am not going to eat breakfast until I feel hungry. I am going to have an egg and fruit.

Celebrate the one pound Paula. Its a loss so its good news!

Diane- congrats on your loss too. I am hoping to get back to exercising- more than my morning walk. My hand was too painful to brave too much movement but I feel like I can start some forms of exercise that don't include my hands. My right hand is getting better, but its still an issue.

Shari - You are making good progress with your tracking and healthy choices. i honestly think that eventually tracking becomes 2nd nature. At least it did for me.

Diane - I remember when your sister Robin was ill. How is she now? I applaud you for your daily weigh ins too. Maybe someday I will weigh daily too. We'll see. Congrats too for your fitness center activities! That can sure speed up the weight loss process. Good luck on C3. I like having the options of additional foods but I often lose discipline instead of weight when on C3. emoticon

I did brave the scale today and am down only 1 pound. Very disappointing, but honestly, not surprising since I have been having far too many blips. It was a wake up call for me to be more disciplined. So far today has been good. I am making sure to get out of the kitchen as soon as I clean up from supper. I am having salmon, broccoli, and a salad with olive oil and lemon juice. I will spend the evening in our family room reading and drinking my seltzer water. I think tomorrow will be a "me" day, with few demands. I am truly looking forward to that.

Here's to a great weekend friends! emoticon emoticon
