I am starting Cycle 2 today. I have my Dr Mike Power Cookies prepared for easy breakfasts. Hoping I can still lose the pounds that I need to over the next 17 days. I think this cycle will be easier since we get more protein options and some carbs every other day.

Shari - Celebrate making it to C3. Woo Hoo! Hope you do well as it does bring many more options. I usually struggle on C3 and tend to do better on C2.

I did accomplish all of my errands, but am a little tired now. One of my stops today was getting gas and when I got to the pump I found the previous customer's debit card still in the machine and the customer had already left. I called the toll free number on the back of the card and reported finding it. The bank rep thanked me and told me she would close the account and that I should throw the card away. I felt bad for the man whose name as on the card but I would have no way of locating him. I took the card to the cashier inside and reported what I did to her and gave her the card which she promptly cut up with scissors. I guess it was good that I found it and not someone who would take advantage of something like that, but I still felt really bad for the man who left the card behind.

I am on track today but must be very careful because when I am tired my will power often runs low. I am planning to exit the kitchen for the rest of the night and just drink water while reading and relaxing. I am too tired to do anything else tonight. Our heat wave is likely to break tomorrow or Saturday. Our average high temp at this time of year is 79, yet it has been in the 90s every day for the past several days. I am looking forward to fall....not winter because I don't like to drive in any frozen precipitation, but fall can be very beautiful.

Paula- I have such a hard time believing its hot somewhere else in the world when we have had such cool days for this time of year. I have to wear a winter hat on my morning walks. Gloves too. Hoping you can get your errands accomplished without having all of your energy sapped.

Today is day 17. Woot Woot! I look forward to the next Cycle. I haven't followed it in a long time. If I can still lose on Cycle 3 I think that's where I will sit until I hit my target. If I gain I will send myself back to Cycle 1. That should be pretty good motivation.

Shari - Working late can be tough. Ugh, I remember those days. Don't miss them. Hope you managed with your eating ok. The chicken sounds yummy.

I stayed on plan today very well. It was one of those days where I had so much to do that I didn't think much about eating. I made salmon for supper with air fried broccoli and a very substantial salad. It filled me up quite well. Tomorrow I have a lot of errands to run which sometimes derails me. I plan to take an apple with me along with water in a cooler (our heat wave continues) so that I am not tempted to do a drive through that I will regret later.

Day 16- I can't believe it! Almost Cycle 3.

The chicken was quite good. I had all of the ingredients but hadn't read the directions before making it. I used my smoothie blender to turn the oatmeal into flour and it worked out great. The sauce is simply melted orange marmalade and it was a good pairing for the chicken. I would make this again. I will be taking some of the leftover chicken for lunch today.

I hear you about having the healthy choices on hand. I have a lot of veggies on hand which makes salad prep pretty easy.

I work late tonight which can make it hard to stay on track.

Let me know how chicken turned out if you made the recipe. I haven't tried that one. I did pretty fine at the dinner meeting. I ordered the steak salad with dressing on the side. It was so tasty I didn't really use much dressing. My cheat was sharing some cake with a friend....I logged it in and am still ok calorie wise and even carb wise according to SP but probably too many carbs for the 17 DD.

I grocery shopped this afternoon and stocked up on healthy choices again. Also our organic delivery came today. So healthy foods abound here at the moment. I have no plans to eat out any time soon so all the good food will be used to help keep me on track. It was a long day, and I am pretty tired. I hope to sleep in a bit tomorrow.

Day 15

No Brisket yet. Not many restaurants were open yesterday (except the chains). I had a noodle bowl with shrimp. I ate half and I see this morning someone found the other half to enjoy. The rest of my food choices for the day were on point.

I made DH a salad for lunch. I am taking spaghetti squash and marina. Excited to try the Orange Chicken recipe from the book. That's what I will be making for supper.

Hope you found and enjoyed the brisket from the food truck. My search continues for brisket comparable to Tom's.

I did very well today on track. I made stuffed peppers without rice. I used ground beef and freshly diced tomatoes to stuff the peppers. I sprinkled a little grated cheese on top. DS loves them this way and so do I.

The day flew by today. Tomorrow evening is my monthly dinner meeting for one of the charities I support. At this meeting we order from a menu but I never know what to expect as the menu changes quite often. I am pretty sure I'll be able to get some kind of salad. Hoping for the best.

Day 14

I found a food truck that has the best reviews for brisket where we live. If they are open today maybe we can swing by. I think Kyle may be sick so we may postpone our celebration on the patio. We will see. Be great to have some time out with all the boys.

Woo Hoo for you Shari! 1.6 pounds is terrific. Way to go....very inspiring and impressive results.

DS and I had a great time out to lunch. The Bar-b-cued brisket was good, but not nearly as good as cousin Tom in Texas makes it. But this place is a lot closer than Texas! DS had Bufflao chicken and an order of ribs. I tasted both. They were good too. I had "Memphis Greens" which were sauteed greens with a little bacon, and I also had their pineapple coleslaw, essentially just coleslaw with some pineapple chunks. These were the 2 healthiest sides on the menu. DS had the coleslaw and also a pineapple souffle which he said was good too. The coffee was really good too. We will probably go back there again since it is in a good location, reasonably priced, and has a wide range of offerings. Our waitress was delightful too. The best part of the meal was just hanging out and talking with John. He is such a great guy, and I treasure every moment we have together. I am amazed at the man he has become. I am sure you know that too as the mother of sons.

Day 13 (And the food options from the book look really good today)

I lost 1.6 pounds this week. Whew! My goal this week is to lose one pound.

I am not sure how our dog will do at a restaurant. At home he sits under the table, which would be great if did that. He is a big dog so it could be challenging. If he is not behaved, we can put him in the car. It's not that warm here at all, be lucky if we hit 65 degrees.

I have never had brisket. I do love Thai food. I will have to give brisket a try. Enjoy your lunch out, I look forward to hearing how your meal is. I am going to google brisket lol.

It is a long weekend here too with Labor Day on Monday. I am guessing it is Labor Day in Canada too. I remember how I loved days off when I worked! Now that I am retired, I still love each and every holiday because things do seem to slow down a little in general, and I feel less self-imposed pressure on these days.

Good luck with your weigh in Shari. Have fun celebrating Kyle's new job. I love the idea of taking your dog with you. There are a few restaurants in our area that have outdoor areas for dogs too. We have never taken our little guy to one of those places however, mostly because I prefer to eat indoors and am not sure how our little chihuahua would do in that situation, though DS says our guy would be a perfect gentledog.

DS and I are thinking of going out to lunch tomorrow after church. We just found out about a bar-b-cue restaurant (not far from our church) that is said to have delicious bar-b-cue brisket, which is one of my favorite foods in the whole world. It is tied with my love for Thai food. My cousin in Texas makes the best brisket I have ever eaten. But I am eager to give the brisket at this restaurant a try. It won't derail me too much, especially if I skip the high carb sides I saw on their website.

Day 12

So glad that I have three days at home (long weekend here). I made some bad food choices yesterday. Surprisingly not at the restaurant. I live in St. Albert, AB which borders Edmonton (West Edmonton Mall and the Oilers are our claims to fame) and our population is just over a million. We have many many restaurants.

Anyway- I know I went over my calorie count and didn't have time to track yesterday so I don't know how much over. I got home at 9:30pm- a 12 hour day. A lot of the day was spent on my feet so I hope I burned some of the extra calories I ate.

I weigh in tomorrow! On Monday we will celebrate Kyle's new job by going out to eat. I would like to try one of the restaurants that allows dogs in their patio area, so if the weather is okay we will do that. I will look up nutritional values before we go.

Reflecting over the past week, I had two bad days so now I hope I didn't gain anything.

I am blessed in many ways with family. Because I am an only child, my cousins were super important to me. I am close to some cousins on my dad's side as well as on my mom's side.

Today was better for me thank heavens. I still feel the bloating from yesterday, so that helped keep me on track. I am drinking water as usual as well as my delightful green tea. I had shrimp and lots of veggies... pretty healthy.

I wish we had a Tony Roma's around us. Do you live in a large metropolitan area? We have relatives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas, and they often speak of Tony Roma's. We live in the 3rd largest region of PA, but our population is probably less than 1 million. Not that I'm complaining. I think our area is developing and growing way too much for my liking. But because we are a smaller area we don't have a lot of the restaurants, etc. found in larger areas.

Here's to a great weekend for all of us!

It's great you have family in your life. I don't see any of my cousins anymore. I do spend time with my niece (on my husband's side) other than that its mostly my kids and my parents for family time. We just all went our own ways and got too busy for each other. Maybe my kids will do better.

Today is Day 11. I have my smoothie ready to go. I have lunch out and have plans to order chicken and salad. We are going to Tony Roma's. I won't be home at dinner time so I need to figure that meal out. I need to be good as I really want to see a loss when I weigh on Sunday.

Our days are similar today Shari. My cousin (actually she's married to my 1st cousin) came to visit today. She brought be a birthday cake (my birthday was this past Saturday). And we got pizza. Need I say more? I am ok too because I know I will be back on track tomorrow. I was a little disappointed that her husband Greg didn't come (his dad and my mom were brother and sister), because they are dog sitting for their daughter's dog so someone had to go home to take care of the dog. Anyway, I had a great time visiting with Pat. She's more fun than her DH anyway!

Well...yesterday was a very non-compliant day.
My boss's daughter brought me some macarons and I didn't want to say no thanks I'm on a diet. They were so pretty. I ate 2 and thanked her. I gave the rest to Kyle. He loves them.

Then- I added some broccoli salad and a couple of pickles to my lunch

Then- I ate 2 slices of pizza, two chicken nuggets and a chocolate chip cookie. I got home at 9:30 and all of my will power was used up. We served 200 McDoubles and fries at our youth event- I didn't eat a burger (stole a few fries). I felt I deserved the extras.

Back on track today. I am not beating myself up because I know I have let go of some bad eating habits and introduced many good ones. I feel like Cycle 4 will be a great place to be once I hit my target weight.

Shari - Your son's creation of lime chicken sounds delicious. I am a huge lover of lime anything (including Margaritas). I am also a fan of black bean & rice. Yum! Sounds like a very healthy meal too. That little bit of rice won't matter. I watch Dr. Oz from time to time (mostly reruns), and he is a strong proponent of beans. I include beans in my meals from time to time and do try to go for more "plant based" proteins which he recommends even though this ups the carb count. Enjoy your pizza! Maybe adding some veggies or a salad will help keep your portion to 2 pieces.

Paula- Good idea to try and make healthier chip like alternatives. The girl's night got cancelled as my date got sick. She was so sad but we are going to reschedule when she's better. It worked out for me as my son was cooking. He made lime chicken with black beans and rice. I would have missed out lol. I wasn't supposed to have rice, but I had less than a half cup.

I can see why you are worn out! That was a full day. Hard to believe that you are under a heat advisory when here its close to freezing at night. I fear our summer weather is gone until next year. Don't too much! There's always the next day.

Day 9- this cycle is going fast. Tonight its pizza night- I am out late but I am planning to have 2 slices when I get home. Last week I had 3 so I will need to be determined to stick to 2. The rest of my meals are prepped for the day so I shouldn't run into any trouble. We shall see.

Shari - I have a toaster oven that is also an air fryer. I love potato chips too. Sometimes I make zucchini chips with a little parm. cheese sprinkled on them and air fry or bake them to a crisp. They're not potato chips but they are a healthier option for me. I also do that with mushrooms. I hear you on the donut holes. They are definitely a waste of calories. Hope you enjoyed your girls night out. I too had chicken and a salad and also broccoli for supper tonight. I had a busy day that sort of wore me out. After taking DS to and from his class today (DS has cerebral palsy and is not able to drive), I did a little more grocery shopping and then did laundry at home. I always feel so accomplished with each load of laundry done. We are under a heat advisory till tomorrow evening due to excessive heat and humidity. So glad we have central AC that is working well. I have a long "to do" list for tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Paula- choosing vegetables for a snack isn't easy. I had that same type of experience last week. I was so hungry and just wanted potato chips. My husband said no- cut up vegetables. I didn't want to but then said to myself you can't be that hungry if you are turning down food. I cut up veggies to eat. It helped the hunger but I do miss my potato chips.

I made one-half bad choice yesterday and I contemplated the decision before eating a half of a donut hole. My neighbor brought them over for the family. A lot of them. I will take them to work today so they are out of the house for today. 30 calories of no nutrients. The old me would have had three or four.

Today is day 8. Going out for dinner and then hang out with my boss's 10 year old. She asked if we could have a girl's night out. I plan to have chicken with a salad for dinner. Still not sure what else we will do.

Shari - I am a big turkey chili fan. Hope you enjoyed it. Congrats on your compliant day!

I did pretty well at lunch with my friend. When I got home I was still a bit hungry because I didn’t eat a lot at lunch. So I cut up tomatoes & found that eating the garden fresh homegrown tomatoes from a friend’s garden was enough to satisfy me. The “old” me would have reached for junk food, so I consider this an NSV...non scale victory.

Paula- down is definitely better than up.

Congrats on being down a pound! That's great. Take care at your dinners out. Restaurants can be a hard place to stay strong. Its better that you had cheese dinner rolls that you bought and that they were organic. Be easier to pass on the restaurant rolls now.

I had a totally compliant day yesterday and I am so happy about that.

Today is Day 7. I cooked ahead for today but some of the family decided to eat it last night so I don't think there is enough for dinner tonight. Looks like they will need to cook for themselves. I made Turkey Chili and the Old Fashioned Beef Stew from the book.

Shari - Down 4 oz is better than up 4 oz, right?

Well today I was down another pound! That is usually very motivating to me. But for some reason today I was very munchie hungry. Sundays are often tough for me but I was so good at coffee hour (fruit only) but not so good when I got home. I had some cheese dinner rolls that I buy for DS. But I indulged in them today. Ouch! I have to admit though, they are very good (and organic).

Tomorrow I am having lunch with a church friend. Not sure where yet, perhaps Ruby Tuesday. I am not a fan of salad bars, so I will avoid that but I know I can get salmon or something relatively compliant. Also have dinner plans with a relative on Thursday. Haven't figured out what we will have either.

Let's make this a good week. We can do it.

So I was only down 4 oz and not the full pound I was looking for. I will try again this week for the 1 pound weight loss. My motivation needs to kick it up a notch and stick to the diet plan in the book.

Today is Cycle 2/Day 6 or Cycle 1/Day 3- there are no obstacles in my way today so I have no excuses to be non compliant.

Ended up not having a compliant day yesterday. I felt sorry for myself and that derailed me. I am back to it today. Its Day 5 today and tomorrow I weigh in. I will be sooo mad at myself if I am not down at least one pound as it will be about the dumb food choices I made yesterday.

Shari - Hope you found the chicken soup. Do you add any extra veggies to it? When I tire of standard tossed salads, I sometimes switch to just a salad of tomatoes and cucumbers. This is a good time of year for that here.

I have been a big baseball fan for just about as long as I can remember. I loved watching baseball with my maternal grandfather when I was a preschooler and on from then. I had a great time yesterday with my friends. We talked much more than we watched the game! The food was good, but salty of course! I focused on the pulled pork and yes, a salad! Today was a good day for me too.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Yesterday was actually Day 2 making today Day 3

Pau;a, Sounds like you have a great day planned with activity, food and friends. I think that's great. I have never really enjoyed baseball but with such a big group going it will be fun.

My yesterday did not go super well. I went over my calories- mostly because I ended up eating three slices of pizza. It's a new day today and the food choices on my meal plan will be good and satisfying. I weigh in on Sunday. I think I have dropped one pound, but I can't be sure.

A very good day for me. Tomorrow's challenge: I am going to a minor league (AA) baseball game with a group of 14 or so friends from churches not in our area. But we are all friends for many years and we get together once a year at a baseball game where we enjoy a buffet in one of the picnic areas of the ballpark. I know I can have some kind of meat, probably a hamburger without the bun. Sometimes they have ribs or chicken too. Most of the other stuff doesn't appeal to me but I will still have to be careful.

Day1 (so cycle 1 day 1). Going to a friends for breakfast, my lunch is packed but there is pizza at dinner tonight. Won't be a compliant day but that's no reason to go astray for the whole day. Two slices of the pizza should my only downfall.

Hope your weekend went well. I did better than I thought I would. We do not have a Tony Roma's in our area. My relatives who live in Texas always talk about how good the food is there. I bet your homemade chicken veggie soup is delicious. That is one of my favorites. And yes, that is a win!

Creeped up a bit in weight but I know I have had to eat out way too many times. I don't even want to so its frustrating. I think the solution is moving to coffee meetings instead of the breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings.

Today I have lunch out. I think we are going to Tony Roma's. I checked out the menu and I think my best bet is the Asian Salad with Salmon- dressing on the side. The other option is the quarter chicken with broccoli (hold the butter). I will pick one of those. Tonight I have home made chicken vegetable soup prepped so that will be a win.

I have a breakfast meeting out today. It's been nuts how much I had to eat out lately. I won't lose this week, but if I can hold pretty steady I will be happy. Hope to choose eggs, fruit, and then see what else is on the menu that goes with.... The rest of the day should be fine.

After staying steady for 4-5 days yesterday was not a good day. I ate out 2 times and both times I had too much to eat and not great choices. I planned to eat out one meal, but totally forgot I had a lunch date planned too.
That is in the past.
I am up 2 pounds. To combat that I am going to do the transitional fast day today. I will see what the scale says tomorrow and go from there. I have just over a month until my nieces wedding in Mexico. That's my target date to reach my goal weight. Earlier would be better so I have time to maintain before I go. I have been so close, now its slipping away. Must get back in the groove.

I haven't been 100% compliant every day as well, but I am still doing well and feel like my food choices are still pretty good. Tonight I am having salmon, broccoli, and a salad. That should fill me up for the night. I have enough salmon for tomorrow as well.

Here's to a victorious day for all!

You are making me hungry for a visit to Red Robin's. Haven't been there in quite a while. There is one in a relatively convenient location for me, but I haven't been over that way in some time. I will remember the simply grilled burger as a good choice next time I get there.

The burger was good, we were at Red Robin and the simply grilled burger is a good choice. I did have fries but nothing tasted too salty. I did drink a lot of water today but my calorie count was higher than I wanted and I was supposed to follow day 8- I was waaaay off.

Not defeated- just have to do better tomorrow with Day 9 tomorrow and back at it.

Looking up the nutritional information is super helpful. I have quit going to some restaurants because the food choices are just so bad. Being a bit of a germ-a-phobe, I know I would quit going to restaurants that violated health codes if I had ready access to that information. Good thing I don't mind cooking!

Today is day 5- Had my lemon water and some oatmeal so far.

I too love dining out and catching up with friends. Looking up the nutritional info in advance is a great strategy. I have noticed more and more restaurants are including calorie counts on some items on the menu, which also helps. Our local newspaper periodically publishes a list of local restaurants that have recently be cited for violations by a health inspector. Two restaurants I really like (one a chain, one an independent) were on the list this week, with the specific violations cited. These are not slime bag restaurants. One is a family restaurant, the other more upscale. I doubt that I will ever go back to these two establishments, nor will I patronize any of the other restaurants that made the list. As my restaurant choices become more limited, my dining out will probably decrease as well.

Restaurants are so good and so bad. I love being able to meet up with someone for great conversation over a meal, but the food itself is not healthy. I try really hard to choose the restaurant and look up the nutritional info before going. That helps, but eating out is always a set back. But you are right- the choices we make are better than the ones we made before.

Day 4 today. Time to see what is on the meal plan.

So glad you plan to stick with us. Your are right, this is a lifestyle change. I know that even when I "stray" my choices are so much better than before I came to this plan. I hear you on the leftovers thing. I get that 100%. And restaurant food almost always does me in, one way or another. But overall , even with my scale "ups and downs" I am still down over 50 pounds from when I started here several years ago. I would like to lose at least another 50 more, but I have found out that sometimes my body just takes a while to adjust before I see the numbers go down again. Fortunately I have been able to string together 2 very good days with no major challenges on the horizon, except for Sunday, depending on what I do. But that is still 3 days away!

Day 4
Gained two pounds yesterday (ate out 2 times). At lunch I had a Vermicelli bowl with Fish Sauce (which is quite high in sodium). I believe one of the pounds I gained is water weight. The other is probably because of the amount of food I ate.
This weekend I will have no problem eating according to the plan. I always do better at home than at work. Hopeful to back where I was by Tuesday.

Well, I survived cycle 2 and am now onto cycle 3. I have lost 20.5 lbs. so far. I've consistently lost at least 2 lbs if not more a week! In fact, last week I lost 4! Keep up the good work and don't get frustrated if you get stuck. The scale will continue to go down! :) I'm supposed to start cycle 1 again on Thursday...........have gotten used to my cookies and potatos! Cycle 1 will be a challenge again, I'm sure! Keep up the good work everyone!!!

Tomorrow is the first day of cycle 2 for me. I am nervous as well. Worried that adding back in carbs is going to slow/stop the weight loss. I have lost 11 lbs in cycle 1 and that has been such an incentive to keep going. I"m going to try to really plan menus ahead of time so i keep the days straight. I am really looking forward to adding red meat back in to my diet, not really missing the carbs as much.

I lost track of where I was but know I was in cycle 2 somewhere. Weightloss really did slow but it has started up again. I am going to move to cycle 3 and start living a healthy lifestyle. I am running regularly on the treadmill and looking forward to the spring weather coming so i can start walking outside and get my bike out.

I have learnt a lot from this book but find it too tough to follow after the first cycle. But i do get the cutting out refined foods, switching to whole grains. This will be a better move for my entire family.

My husband and I were discussing last night how we want to move forward and we are going to try eating healthy, based on his suggestions and follow his 5lb rule...when we gain 5lbs, go back to cycle 1 for a couple of weeks. I have definate food sensitivities and find I feel much better when I eat natural foods so I don't think we will go back to our old way of eating.

Good luck everyone.

Life is short, live it and love it! Never stop smiling...keeps people wondering!

I am half way through Cycle 2 and definitely have seen the weight loss slow up. But I did lose 2 lbs in this cycle so I am happy to see the scale moving in the right direction. I agree by increasing exercise it would have helped keep the weight loss moving faster. I am going to bump up the exercise for Cycle 3 so I don't plateau.

Also, I wanted to say that I have tried the cookies, although I don't like any nuts, almonds, etc or cherries so I used raisins and chocolate chips...the lowest calorie/fat ones I could find and they are really good.

I am on C2 D13 and I did gain 1 1/2lbs in the first few days of cycle 2, which if you read the forums, most people do. Also, consider that time of the month and if you read the tips in the book, there is a reason for not staying on cycle1, because your body will plateau, which is what we are trying to avoid, so stay with it, and you will continue to lose...even if you don't see it in the numbers on the scale, consider your cholesterol levels lowering, overall blood sugar, etc etc. Try to not focus solely on the number on the scale...remember how good your body feels and how good it feels to treat your body with dignity and respect! Good luck and healthy eating!
PS, another thing I found useful was to search this site and THE DR'S site for helpful recipes.

I too found cycle 2 a bit discouraging, so I went back to cycle 1, why?because cycle 2 and 3 add carbs and I am carb sensitive. I lose slowly but I lost 5blbs on cycle 2. I am still at the 39 lb.

No I haven't Tried the cookies.

I have modified the diet to include some meats.

Hi all!

I'm ALMOST finished with Cycle 1 and looking forward to Cycle 2, but am feeling a bit anxious. I lost 7 lbs the first week and now 2 lbs the second week and I'm afraid the weight loss will stop on Cycle 2.

Just wondering how everyone has done on this Cycle. Any tips for a newbie?

A friend didn't lose weight for a week got discouraged and quit the plan--I want to stay motivated and keep going! I plan to really increase my exercise.

Also, has anyone tried the Dr. Mike cookies??

Thanks!
